That is so cute.

Kell,

Where do you come up with these? I love it. It's not enough to have a fluffy skirt, it has to have a fluffy bodice.

Kell, are you at your tricks again? dixie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

As soon as the sun is not so bright I will take another photo. It is really rather dark pink all the way up. LOL

I have been pollinating all afternoon. I was about to go off to a vireya garden in Oakland at 1 and I went out back just to water 1 plant then saw about 20 double pink blooms all screaming POLLINATE ME!! And now 4 hours later I am still here. I ended up going all over the yard pollinating. I swore this year I was not going to. But it is a glorious day here, just absolutely glorious. I am in love with my world. LOL

This is a vireya. They are so special.

LOL!!! Kell, how DO you do it??

Barb

Brigham City, UT(Zone 5b)

That's what I would like to know Barb, Kell, How DO you DO IT? Your Vireya is beautiful, I have never heard on one, now I will have to look it up also. You just keep us all going.

Marie

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell, please tell me that you are keeping that one. Are the other blooms like that one? Did you pollinate this bloom? It is so beautiful and unusual

I think it might be fun to try pollinating Isabella. Do burgs pollinate easley or do you have to pollinate a lot of blooms before you get a seed pod?

What other name does Vireya go by. I can't find it in my book?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell, looking at the pic, I cannot tell if it is a second skirt that did not form properly or if it is a single bloom. Is it the first year for this one to bloom? If so, maybe the blooms will be normal next year. Are you going to hold it over?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Joan. Vireyas are tropical rhododendrons that can bloom 3 to 4 times a year. Some are very tiny and others much bigger.

Pollinating is so easy but whether or not it takes and forms a pod depends on lot on variables, Joan. Also some brugs just pod so readily and others are tougher. You need some pollen from another brug other than Isabella to be successful.

Frannie, it is not a double bloom want to be from where I stand.

Kell, that is so pretty and unusual. I love hearing about all your brugs, it's so interesting, it would be great to be your neighbor lol

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, I keep coming back to look at this one, it is just so delighful and unusual, I just love it.

Hooks, TX

Kell,
How fascinating!!! Is this bloom on the same plant as 'Handles' on the other thread of yours? Both need to be kept for their unusual form. They're very pretty.

Thanks for sharing,
Louise

Kell,
Love it!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, Kell, you did it again. Quite unusual (and pink of course). What do you guess caused that?

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Kell, what kind of glue sticks to flowers?

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell, is this a normal bloom on this burg? I just keep going back to look at it. I hope you have found a new brug shape. I love unusual think because they are just fun.

Please show us some more of this one. What is her name?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL John. Too funny. You got me. I so need a life. LOL

I have no clue why I am getting these. I now have 3 different brugs, that have weird blooms, each brug has a different look. I wonder if I have been nuked. LOL!!

I have no clue if they will do this again next year. But I am having so much fun looking at them.

Here is another brug, I love the effect.

Oh dear Kell...that is outrageous. Just the other day I finally had some blooms open and one of my pinks has the same thing, but inside the bloom. I thought of you and the last time you posted with your alien bloom. Hmmmmm.....almost makes ya wonder why?

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

That's so freaky and cool at the same time!! Are these related crosses?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Doris.

They look like dancing ladies. I love a little lagniappe with anything.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Well here I am again, I can't seem to stay away from my computer. Kell do you mind telling us what this cross way?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Patricia, it is a cross of my own seedlings.

You know what I think....... and I know this will sound so weird but...........

Since last summer I have the worst time ever in my life trying to deal with my Mom's death, and when I had gotten so deep into sorrrow suddenly my Ruthie brug changed and grew into a huge tree and has flowered almost continually since and has had best dark blooms. Truly a beam of light into my life. And then this summer I have had a very dire medical condition that has upset my life drastically and my usual happy disposition all but left me. I have been dragging all summer long and suddenly these fun blooms started appearing to make me laugh. And laugh I have.

Now you tell me, but I really think it is my Mom helping me thru.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, had you been drinking when you were pollenating? Is this the first blooming for you? Wonder if it will do the same thing next year or from a cutting. It really is very pretty.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I like that idea better, your mom is trying to make you laugh.

Colts Neck, NJ(Zone 7a)

Kell these fancy brugs are fascinating - I keep coming back to this thread to see what you can "wow" us with next. I am very sorry to learn of your condition though. I hope for many more beams of light to shine on you, especially those emanating from Ruthie. Prayers and good wishes from NJ.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell, I'm a tad confused when you say you've been pollinating. You talking like bees would do? Could you explain, if it's not too much trouble. Sound very interesting. How do you do this?? Dorothy

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell, I have no doubt what so ever that it is your mother. I no are loved ones stay for a while to help us through we just have to be a ware of it and look for it. Your Mother and God are sending you love and strength to get through what ever you have to. You are blessed that you can see it and know where it came from. I will be praying for you to be back to your old self so you can spread all the good thing you say and do for others on this net.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell,
I wouldn't be at all surprised if your Mom was an influence! Sorry to hear you've had medical problems, and I really hope things are looking up for you. I've come back to this thread a bunch of times to look at your fluffle - it's just fascinating :-)

Hi Sofi! Haven't we talked before about Colts Neck?? I was brought up in Rumson. I love Colt's Neck!

Thanks for your good wishes guys, but I am doing fine now. Stable so all is well. And I am never going to get over how my Mother died but I am learning how to cope with it so that is an improvement. My garden has been my salvation even if I have really neglected it this year. But I am planning for next year already and am going to have the best one ever! Gaud color all over in mass amounts. LOL

Hi Dorothy!! Pollinating is so very easy and so fun. Addicting actually. Seeds take 3 to 6 months to mature then you plant them it takes 8 months to a year for most to bloom. So it is quick satisfaction. I am also playing hybridizer with clivia and those can take 7 years from seed to flower so you have to be an optimist to pollinate those. LOL

Anyway, I just buy cheap kid's paint brushes, cut off the tips and then dip the end into the pollen of one kind of brug and brush it onto the stamen of another kind of brug. Then label it and wait a few days to see if it took.

Here is a great thread that explains it......Susie (Calalily) is the gal who taught me most of what I know about brugs. She is a great teacher.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Ooooh I luv your fluffles, Kell! Especially the deeeeeeep pink one!

Kell, I'm sorry to hear about your mom, sounds like you've had a tough year, and hope you feel better soon.
Your brugs are always fun to look at and always so beautiful....thanks for sharing.

Kell,
My heart loves this one more each time I come back to gaze at it. I like to think that it means your mom's wings are there, 24/7, to be near you every day.

Kell, I'm just cruising the brugs forum, 'lurking' as it were, but I love that little pink brug bloom! It looks like a Pink Party Dress, or maybe, Pink Petticoat to me! And I'm sure your mom has a hand in all of this!
