New forum suggestion: Garden Railroads

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Garden railroads can be quite addictive - ask me I know :-) Would there be others out there with an interest in a Garden Railroads forum where we could share what we have done, what we plan to do, tips on building scale structures, etc.?

Well Ginny..perhaps you should show us what you did with yours! My dear Mom loved gardening and had railroad raised beds for her vegetables and mini orchard. It was really neat as she had Dad to arrange them so that they created paths in the garden as well. Then she outlined a play area with them as well. with shrubs and flowers. Quite nice, my pumpkins always wanted to go to "Grandma's Park"! ; 0)

I'll be glad to post some pics. Ours is still a work in progress though. We're starting small - but we sure have big plans! (pics later tonight after I get home)

Well Ginny, I do believe you have a very nice railroad garden! I really enjoyed your pictures. Ohh.. I don't think my pumpkins would ever leave that railroad garden. Great job!! :0)

That is wonderful, what a great job you have done and I am excited to see the progress. Your caster bean plant is humongous, very pretty, the background to your garden is beautiful also. Congratulations.

I would love to have a garden railroad someday, although I have a feeling it's several years away! But in the meantime I'd love to look at pictures of other people's and get ideas (sort of like how I read the water gardening forum in hopes that I'll someday have money to put in a pond!)

Thanks everyone. I'm pleased you are all enjoying my little railroad. I have to admit it's great fun putting it all together and planning its future growth.

Ginny, your railroad garden is awesome! How did you get into this and learn how to set it up? A very detail-oriented hobby you have there my dear!

Thanks for posting this. I'd never heard of this kind of gardening til now.

LOL I got into it by accident Erynne. My DH wanted to have this octagonal shaped garden in the centre of the backyard but no clear idea of what he wanted to do with it, and my DFIL has a history with trains and loves them. Soooooo I suggested putting trains in the garden. From there we just all did a lot of reading and online research, and took what we considered the best ideas and altered them to our own use. Et voila! One garden railroad where none ever existed before :-)

Ginny, Thank you for sharing your garden railroad. It looks terrific already. What fun! And such a good record of building it. I can't wait to see pictures of it when it's finished.

Thanks lorettamar. It has been fun project, and the possibilities are endless! Translation: we'll probably always have "Just one more thing to add." :-)
