Bon Jovi, Bayou Blue and Oprah

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Our small community will be on today's Oprah. John Bon Jovi donated a million dollars towards the Habitat for Humanity homes being built here for Hurricane victims. Habitat recently built over 100 homes in a subdivision now named "Bon Jovi Blvd". He (Bon Jovi) was here a few weeks ago for the dedication. When he was asked what he didn't like about the area, his quick reply was "LOVE BUGS". The bugs were flying all about the day he was here, we had a bumper crop this year.

Lisa,

I saw that show and was all in tears thinking of you and your home as well as others that we have come to know from DG. I keep donating when I can to Habitat or Oprah's Angel Network. Don't know what else I can do other than pray.

Hugs for you and your family,
Lani

hi lani,
how are you doing? I'm glad you go to see what a my neck of the woods looks like...the Habitat homes are less than 2 miles from where I am. Our church group feed many folks over the summer who were working there.

That is great that your church was involved in that project too. What a wonderful thing it is for those families to get a new house and all the furnishings too. Wish my furnishings were half as nice. LOL

I am ok. Changed pain meds and am feeling far better these days with a much clearer head too. Haven't changed anything in the battle of the bulge though :( Doc is hoping that the new med will make me feel well enough that the pounds will start dropping off. I hope he is right. Are doctors EVER right? lol

When are you moving? I got a bit of your news from Mary but we had wayyyyyyy too much to talk about that day she was here so I didn't find out everything.

BTW DH found a snake in the yard last week. It was 42 inches long so he evicted it to the swamp down the road so it won't eat our koi. It was a Western Bullsnake so not poisonous.

You should have seen the day we caught a baby skunk in our live trap. OMG did I laugh!!!!!!!!!!

HUGS,

Lani,
I'm so glad your meds are working for you and not against you.

My neighbors called me over to their home last Sunday afternoon. They had killed a HUGE snake in their chicken coop and wanted me to I.D. the bandit. The snake crawled in their coop and made a nice meal out of their young pullets. It (snake) was so engorged, it couldn't get back out! It turned out to be a chicken snake with a really bad attitude.

Our moving day is getting closer. We are thinking we should be moved by Thanksgiving. I never dreamed that this day would finally come... I will finally be leaving Louisiana, with a heavy heart of course.

Baby skunk..how cute that must've been! (and stinky too..lol)

WOW that is great you will be moved by Thanksgiving. No more hurricanes wanting to wash your family into the ocean.

It probably wouldn't take too much food to keep a snake from going through a chicken wire fence. I know that one snake wouldn't have even fit through chicken wire going into the pen let alone full of chickens.

I am sure you will miss a lot about Louisiana and it will always be "Home" to your family but you will all be safer where you are going.

My DH has always said he wanted a baby skunk for a pet. Well he finally got one and then instantly decided he didn't want to keep it. LOL I made sure to tell him that if he wanted it he had to take it to the vet himself. LOLOLOL He sure didn't want to do that job.

We hadn't gotten that one turned loose yet and our son netted a larger one with my long handled Koi net. Sighhhhhhhhhhh LOL Believe it or not he put a small tarp over the live trap, reached out to the handle of the live trap with the rake and lifted it onto my nursery wagon, picked up the net that he had twisted to keep the bigger skunk in it and called for his dad and up the road they walked. One towing the wagon and the other holding the net. It was sooooooooo funny watching them walk very very slowly so they wouldn't disturb their charges.

They managed to take them up the road to the swamp and turned them loose all without being sprayed!!!!!!! I was and still am amazed that they accomplished that feat. My wonder skunk men! LOL

LMK when you get moved what your addy is and in the spring I will send you some plants for your new place.

Hugs,
Lani

HI Lisa.....I watched that show...but I didn't know it was in your town. I thought that one lady would hug Bon Jovi to pieces...every time she turned around she was hugging him again...understandable though...what a nice gift. Jo

JustmeLisa...take me with you plllllease! *G* I've just finished...well almost, still haven't rebuilt the back porch after Rita and I don't want to do this hurricane business again. New floors, new roof (with all new decking), new garage, new fence...we haven't even half started on the yard...
