I was interviewed on Radio!!

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Yesterday 18th marks as an important day for me. Reason: My interview (recorded two days before) was aired on All India Radio, Mysore. Subject of discussion was Cricket. The series was "The face seen somewhere" -- this is the translation from Kannada. The radio station had requested me for a talk to which I had reluctantly agreed. Reluctant at first, because talking is not my cup of tea and in fact I am very renown for this 'talent'!! The interviewer even mentioned that because the friend that had suggested my name had probably hinted him about it!! The recording was a circus for him - as it could not progress satisfactorily the first time. But now I had become more friendlier with the interviewer and the second time was better. Had taken my DW too with me as she watched my 'talent' stumble as expected. The end result was heard on the air. Much to my delight and the delight of my mom, my family. And some of my friends that heard. I did not make it too public as I was worried about how it would come off.

Let me tell you something about this Radio Station. All India Radio, Mysore has the privilege of being the first radio broadcaster in the country. In 1957, it was named "Akashawani", coined by the founder himself (Prof. M.Gopalswamy). He made his first transmission in the 1930s very close to the actual studio. (Will get a picture of the studio soon). Akashwani means, sound in the sky.

So I had the good fortune to be there for a purpose. My father was a sound engineer having worked in that field elsewhere, in the films department having recorded a few movie songs.

I thought I should share my happiness about my debut behind the microphone.

VERY COOL AND I MAY NAME MY CAT-Akashwani

CONGRATZ DINU!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Congratulations! You could "talk" to us about cricket also. A few of us know very little about the game. I is always enlightening to "hear" about your country. Lou

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

WOW, so it's not just Dave but also Dinu is interviewed!!!

Congratulations, dear Dinu.

I too love the name Akashwani.

Thanks dears.
Notmartha, certainly you can name your cat as Akashwani. Actually, A-a-k-a-a-s-h-w-a-a-n-i. It sounds so beautifully. Later on, the Indian Government decided to adapt the name for all its radio stations. Aakash means sky. Waani means sound (Sanskrit). Soundwaves wafting through the sky!!

Cricket... will bla-bla about it in a separate thread. Am trying to link the nuances of the game to our own lives as so many things can be compared. A write-up is taking shape.

"Soundwaves wafting through the sky", I like that! Congratulations on your
audio adventure.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Thank you ardesia, it was really an adventure. Yesterday and today, my colleagues that listened to the broadcast appreciated the talk as most of them have not known that I CAN talk a bit. I was not tense, as is my nature, but since I had already warned the interviewer about my lacuna he tried to adjust to the situation (which was rare for him!! LOL). These days, it is the talking that matters and not deeds. So, almost every creature knows how to talk to survive and I fall behind all of them --- or so I have thought! The encouragement and opportunity that has come by in this shape will have to be made use of to change that attitude of mine. Let's hope for the best!

What a confidence builder this has been for you. Isn't it nice to know you can be successful at things you didn't think you would be successful at. When you have that confidence the sky is the limit.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

How wonderful!!!

Confidence-builder! Yes it has been. But the nature of the person always takes front seat. It is hard to overcome that. If that was to be in front of a live audience, I probably would not have accepted at all! Confidence, I have never lacked. But I'm so inhibitive, so laid back.

Dinu....You may turn out to be like me....I was put into the position of HAVING to address a group of 500 people...it loosened my tounge and I haven't shut up yet!!! LOL

It really did help me to overcome my shyness...Yes, really...I used to be VERY shy....

Keep up the good work. Jo

Thanks for the encouraging example. Let's see how things develop. It seems that there are people waiting to "hear" from me, so many things.

Me too! What a year you are having! Many blessings! (which you deserve, I think)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Blessings, yes, they have really helped, I think.... I had called up the interviewer and he is ready to make a CD of it, of course, with studio quality sound. Right from the studio!
