As you may or may not know there was a co-op feeding frenzy today at 10 am and 9 pm pacific standard time for some leftover irises. Because timing was cruicial for this many of us prepared to hit the button exactly at the moment when the clock struck the hour. Both times doing this I noticed that even refreshing my page and copy and pasting my post in the box for another "chance".... my post showed up exactly, I hit send, it appeared to send and would take me to the "where to go next" page....
But when going back NONE of my subsequent posts that were copied and pasted in showed up. The first time I assumed it was because the board was overwhelmed. The second time I figured out maybe it's a tool to keep the poster from posting the exact same post back to back ??? The reason I say this is because the last attempt when I added (.....) to the beginning it changed the content and the post was made just fine.
I ask because this could be important info if I get caught up in another feeding frenzy....lol And boy do I wish I had known about that before this !!!!!!!!!!

Stupid question about copy and paste posts
I think there is a feature like that to prevent duplicate posting, I seem to recall it being mentioned somewhere in a discussion a few months ago. Unfortunately I don't remember where that discussion was, so I can't provide you a link. Probably on this forum somewhere if you feel like looking around!
I'll have to check out this coop feeding frenzy--sounds kind of like Ebay or something!

Edited to say... I must be remembering wrong! I just tried pasting my first response and posting it again, and it worked. Although I suppose it's possible I had an extra space in there somewhere!

It seems to me that you can post the same message more than once, because it was happening a lot a few months ago when DG was having technical difficulties. I think there is a feature that won't let you post a blank post though.
Well maybe it was because the board was overwhelmed the other posts sent but never showed up. Just seemed odd to me that with that many attempts it didn't work, but I was wondering on a reason why.
Thankyou !!

The system is designed to prevent duplicate posts (from people accidentally hitting "submit" twice.)
However, when the servers are slow, there are times when duplicate posts (sometimes a dozen of them) will show up when the user didn't realize there was a problem on our end, so they kept hitting submit, and since the first post hasn't been recognized, the system keeps accepting the duplicates that are following it.
It's also possible that with so many people posting to a single thread simultaneously, the system got a little ..... well, confused and overwhelmed ;o)
I knew Dave was finished working on the servers on Sunday.
So it must have been the co-op feeding frenzy slowing us down. Ahhhh and I missed it.
:^))))
Molly
Well, he was finished with most of the work on Sunday. But we were still having problems yesterday, and somewhere he posted that he was copying some files between servers yesterday - which was causing a bit of a slowdown;o)
Thankyou Terry for clearing that up for me !!!
Next time there is a feeding frenzy I will know how to better approach it...lol
