Dance the swing?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I was listening to some big band sounds from the 40 and 50's yesterday and thought I just might take some lessons in 'the swing'. I know the basic steps but to dance like the gals of the 40's would be a hoot. Any of you good swing dancers?

Yes. Retired and now gardening but never too old to dance. In The Mood, Opus 1 and all the others.........we love them.

As I reminded one other DG gal -

Life is not a contest.

Enjoy what you can, while you can. Who's watching you, Moby? Just DO IT.

We often do "slow dancing" in either the kitchen, dining room or living room and being on a corner, with lights on and no curtains or drapes at all, anyone can spot us - neither of us care.

Rock around the Clock is even more fun!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oh yes, Dave and I have jitterbugged in in the livingroom - - with carpet. Kinda burns the feet when he gives me a twirl. Ouch! lol

Love to dance. I have been known to dance down the aisle in a stor when a good song is playing over the intercom. When I am in my coffin, if a good song comes on, will have to give it one more whirl. When I get really old and can't dance anymore, I will dance in my mind. Come to think of it, I am getting old and I still dance and when I can't and a good song comes on, fast, slow or in between, I dance in my mind.

As I type this Bobby Darren is singing "Somewhere Beyond the Sea". I am dancing sitting in the chair. My favorite song to dance to is "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers. What a song to sway to. One time we were driving out in the back roads of CA and that song came on. My husband stopped the car, we got out and danced. What a trip. So dance, dance, dance where, when and while you can.

Liz - we'll probably be rocking to Opus One in our rocking chairs!!!

Bolivar, TN(Zone 7a)

As long as their is dance music playing and I can move, I will be dancing.

I had a boyfriend once that taught me to do what he called the "East Coast Swing" and it was a BLAST! My husband is an OK dancer but I've been meaning to teach him that dance for 10 years and haven't done it yet, but we slow dance around the house, too. I like to line dance (where everyone is doing the same dance as a group), two-step, triple-step, and dance to fast songs, but before we got married my husband was into square dancing and clogging! YUK! I went with him one time and met some of his friends there but warned him up front... I will learn it if you want to stay in the "club" but I AIN'T wearing one of those SKIRTS! ROFLMAO

OHHHHH.....Me and DH loved our Square Dance Club!! I even started a performing group of 4-H Club kids that put on shows.....Never met nicer people than Square Dancers....sorta like DDG'ers....

I used to make him shirts & String ties to match dresses that I made....we were SHARP!! They don't wear the dresses as much as they used to.
