Dave's Garden server maintenance on Sunday, Sep 17

Tomorrow I will be in Dallas performing some major server work (upgrading most of the servers and replacing a hard drive in one of them). There may be some brief downtimes but they should be minimal.

Good gracious is it ever slow today!

I guess we're lucky it works at all...I can just imagine unplugging boards and cables and who knows what...I've had no trouble so far

I've finished the work on one of the servers and it's synchronizing now with the rest. Also, one of the other servers is being worked on so DG is basically running on only one machine right now (hence the slowness)

When it gets a bit slower at times -- It really makes me appreciate how easy it is to get on and do what ever I want on this site day in and day out!! If Dave needs to do some work and it gets a bit pokey from time to time, I am just so thankful he is there keeping it so trouble free 99.9% of the time!

Thanks Dave!

I noticed hicups are common today! LOL

Maintaining a system that runs 24/7 is a neat trick, but not an easy one. We noticed some glitches today, but not many. I still can't get the system to upload the picture of my first ever home-grown watermelon to my diary. But other than that, everything is fine.
Thanks for excellent service.

I can't get photos to load on a forum, but its bedtime and I'll try tomorrow.
Nite nite Dave.

I left the data center at around 9:30pm tonight (central time) and the servers should all be in good shape. As far as I can see, all the pictures are loaded.

I was able to complete the work on three of the servers. The fourth one will have to wait until another day.

If there are any issues with the site, please let me know!

Tried to upload a pic to BugFiles just a bit ago....still a no-go.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am unable to see some photos also. The message is there and the little "click here to enlarge photo" but there is no photo in some places, no X or anything else. Odd thing is a couple of pics will be missing then there will be a pic in a later post.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I posted a pic a while ago in Northeast forum with no problem, but then tried one in the perennial forum (the thread was asters) and it won't post. so the problem is still there but intermittent. sorry Dave

The birthday list is still showing those from the 17th on the 18th.

And the fun random image hasn't changed since last night either.

I tried again to post a picture in Water Gardening.....still a no-go there too....

Cincinnati, OH

At least you know that it is good news that we are so active that you need an upgrade!!!LOL

Congrats.

I had disabled some of the updating code and that's why the birthday list, et al wasn't moving. I'm setting that up right now.

As for the pictures, that's still quite a mystery to me. I'll look into it more later.

Wow Dave, you took the long way home from Dallas????

I haven't tried putting photos in today, just the usual navigation. It seems a bit slow loading each thread.

Molly
:^)))

P.S. And thanks for fixing that other thang for me. :^)))

My mission in Boston is a secret. Shhhh. :-)

The slowness should be over soon. I've been doing some major copying of files between servers and that would be why it was so slow.

No pictures posting at all over in pets either. I am sure you have your hands full!

Safe traveling!

So probably larger pictures are timing-out and smaller ones aren't???

I had trouble last night where no pictures would post, but I did manage one earlier today in a dmail and the lilies forum.

Tonight I tried to post pics on the dahlia and bulb forums, with just the wording to enlarge the picture appearing, no pics.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

In the PlantFiles.....
I'm not getting the image on the 'Previewing an image" page. I know the image file is being transmitted because my modem lights flutter quickly. I know the files are not too large, they are the same as all my other uploaded picts.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I would say hold off on trying to upload them until Dave gives the all-clear signal.

Image posting should be finished now - please give it another try!

It worked! Just posted one on the dahlia forum, thanks!

Aren't we a bunch of addicts???

Yuppers...it's workin'.....I have s-l-o-w dial-up and it's still s-l-o-w....but workin'.....Thanks for gettin' it fixed!

Dave, We are all so grateful for all you do to keep this site moving smoothly. We don't even think about all the technical stuff that is happening when we zip from here to there, download a few pictures, etc... So when it hangs up, we find how much we take you and the site for granted. Thanks for caring about us and sharing what is happening. You're the best!

Cincinnati, OH

I totally agree.

Thank you.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)
