Coffee and .... for Saturday, September 16th

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning.

I'd probably qualify for the worm this morning as I expect to be up before most of you, but that's okay, I'll be generous and pass it on to the next deserving person!

Here's where we've been http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/651099/

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Worm is mine and I'm not even hungry! Almost 2am and I can't sleep, so got up, looked out all the windows, petted the kitty and curled up on the couch with two blankets and my laptop. My mind is working overtime thinking about all the stuff I have to do before the cold starts in. And would you believe worrying about what to get people for Christmas!! Good Grief....

GG, I'll get back to you on the book on Butterflies/Moths - it's in the bookcase and I'm too wound/covered up in blankets to get it right now. The syran thing for dahlias is to seperate your dahla tubers with one eye each and roll them individually in syran wrap. Saves space. If you go to the dahlia form, there is detailed info from poochella - she's the guru on it!

I know I should just skip my visit to MIL, but I am such a sappy person. I could never ignore my DM, and feel tremendous guilt when I ignore MIL. Sometimes, tho rarely, she is decent. Just old and crotchety and a whiner. It is a good lesson to me of how NOT to be.

defoe-I am envious that you are going to a roundup! Some year I hope to attend one. Hope the mare deliveres so your DH can go with you.

VI - enjoyed your pics and narrative tremendously. The potty explanation was great - got a chuckle out of the smokers room too. Did you bring the komono home or just wear it for an event there? Hate to try run in one of those!

Well, mornng will come soon, so I should try to nod off - tho I feel wide awake. Here's my adjenda for tomorrow. Two canners of tomato juice, paint trim on garage and house windows, talk to my Dsis for an hour (never miss that), take more cuttings, and go to DGS first football game in the middle of the day (nuts...) I walked by my grapes and they smell ready, so I need to pick them too and do up some juice. Not enough time in the day it seems. However, if I would stay off here, I'd have a ton more time!!

Hopefully, nighty nite!

Gosh ... I'm not believing this. Couldn't sleep all night. Tossed and turned / hot and cold. Read a bit. I don't know what was wrong with me. Anyway, guess I get the worm.

I'm going to get some coffee to go with it! BBL

Sarv - Kimonos are quite heavy, made of silk, very expensive and need someone to help get into them. So they were for try-on only. Women in Japan actually will the kimonos to their daughters and they get passed on for generations. They are made so that excess fabric is tucked up under the waist; so height isn't too important in making them fit. If you look at the picture of me, you'll see there is quite a bit a fabric folded at the waist. The German friend, Hella, wore the same Kimono with a different thing at the waist, but she's taller (and it looked better on her, IMHO). Actually, you are trussed into them so tightly, I don't think I'd want to wear one for very long. LOL

Hope everyone has a good day.

I slept like the proverbial dead, and only woke up when Sammi decided to stroll across my chest and then Olivia joined him. DH had already fed them because they had Iams breath so apparently hunger was not the motivation, it was just time for me to be up.

I saw Kelly's tree kittens at the MW Roundup, they were so cute! See Pic . They must be a pretty good size by now, and the new owner is probably curtainless, as they were doing a pretty good job of shredding hers.

Ugh, why do people think that they need to tell you horror stories about medical disasters when you are in the middle of one yourself? In what way do they assume that is helpful? During my first pregnancy my ex Mil used to tell me all the details of her miscarriages, still births, etc. long painful labors...puh-leeeze!!! It's one thing if a person is suffering, and wants some support but good grief, that kind of show and tell is just torture! Just MHO.

Speaking of MILs, Sarv, that was good advice from Mary, next time you are tempted to play good samaritan to your MIL, scratch that idea and substitute ice cream or pie. She's been threatening that layoff for about a year, if memory serves me right. Tell her if he gets laid off ,she'll have to find a new chauffeur, because you won't be able to afford gas!! Maybe that will cool her jets.

Oh fine, now it's my all fault you sloppy housekeepers had to clean your windows??? If you spent a little less time here, your houses would be spotless like mine................snort!!!! I can't even type that with a straight face!!!! It already looks like I didn't do anything, so I encourage anyone who has the urge to clean, to try to find a distraction until the feeling goes away. I realize now that pulling the blinds would have been a far better choice.

Bonnie, I'm sticking to my prediction of 9/23 for the designer pups. I guess everyone else wants one because I didn't see any other guesstimates. I waited quite a few years for my DH to want to go to movies, and then decided I would just go by myself. Now he will go for the Friday Matinees, but he mostly likes action, cartoon, or comedies so if it's a romance or a drama, I just go by myself. You don't talk in the theatre, so what does it matter if you go alone? And you don't have to share your popcorn or smuggled chocolate bars. And it 's probably a good thing we aren't closer geographically, I'd steal your DGD, spoil your pets, and we'd waste a lot more time shopping and rummaging, and finding bargains.

Did you do Mr. B's ears when he asked for a car ride?

Thanks for the hints on the oven grates; putting them in a garbage bag with a cup or so of ammonia and letting them sit over night works too but the spray attack works pretty well for me, a contained mess. I try to remember to clean the oven Spring and Fall when I can have fresh air blowing through the house. They don't get super cruddy if I do them more often, and I remember to use my drip pan under pies. No matter how you do it, it's messy.

Kelly, had to laugh about the lazy guy opening a bar, boy, is he in for a surprise if he thinks that will be easy and he can just sit on his rear.
Ask anyone who is their own boss!!

Elaine, hope you had a wonderful day with good weather and lots of sales.
And Carat, a good lunch and visit with Susie, wish we could all join you.
Looks like we've got a good day going here, sunshine already, and light clouds. Did a little weed pulling yesterday afternoon, darn thistles needed a good lesson in not coming up in my gardens. Have to ask DH if he wants to try to resurrect that collapsed wagon or throw it out. All it needs is a new base but I think it would be more effort than it's worth. Besides, he has to do some car maintenance if he's going to SELL them. Next weekend is the big swap meet in Jefferson...time's awastin'.....

Have to check out that Dahlia thread, time to start a new addiction.

Big ~~~~~~~ to those I haven't addressed, time to hit the shower and see what the day has in store.

I've been up for an hour and a half or more albeit moving slowly. DB is off to get more bells and whistles for his Harley and I'm just trying to warm up and get in the shower. 51º when I got up. Brrrrr...

Cute kittens that Kelly rescued!

My DB has been keeping his bike in the barn and every time he starts it up to bring it out, Gracie streaks for the woods. On the other hand my indoor cat Bazha, has taken to sleeping with him. How do cats always know who has cat allergies?

Comcast has sent me a cut-off notice for my TV and Internet. I've sent 3 checks, 6/16, 7/1 and 8/1 and I can't find the bank statements to see if they cleared, nor do I have a new bill since 8/1. Something odd going on here.

BBL

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good morning to all. Didn't feel ready to go to bed last night, but did anyway, and slept until about 5:30 when the coughing began. So up to take meds, they I got on the couch and slept until 7:30. Gonna go to a fall festival about 4 miles away. DGD always rides in the parade, but this year, Midnight has some lameness, and Jade is pregnant, so no horses to ride. Would not even consider Rusty, as the ornery cuss would probably just balk and she would end up trying to lead him. She did ride him one year, and he acted like a complete idiot. She was so mad.

M5, if we lived closer, I believe we could get in some major trouble!! Sure I could go to the movies alone, but I like to talk about it afterwards, and nobody to listen to my take on things, or offer theirs. Oh, my gosh, I have sunshine coming through one of the windows I cleaned yesterday, been a long time since I have seen that. I have a perfect view of my daylilies now. I did do the ear thing with Mr. B while in the car, and he was so happy that he was going somewhere, that he didn't pout at all. Okay, I have marked the 23rd on my calendar. We will be gone, so I will have to warn DS and DSGF to be on the watch.

I01, so sorry that you didn't sleep well. Aches, pains, mind racing, what?

And you too Sarv. I get those spells where I have so much running through my head, usually of things to be done, that I just can't close my eyes. It sounds like the saran wrap would promote rot, I gotta go over and look at that info. Take M5's advice, and tell her that you won't be able to afford gas to take her anywhere if she lays DH off. That ought to give her something to think about. You might add, that you will be there every evening at 6:00 to be fed too!! I have been to 2 RU's and they are great. This one coming up, is a one day affair, but the distance is far enough that we will be going on Friday, RU events on Saturday, and coming back on Sunday. I went to the ORV RU this past spring, and it was a one day event, and met some very nice people. It had a different feel to it than the Ky one. Good but just different.

Elaine, Hope you have a good day, and sell all that you take with you.

Well, I need to stop at the grocery today, and get some meat for the guests that will be arriving on Monday. I have meat, but I only buy for 2 people, so will need to stock up with more.

Well, gotta get moving, the parade starts in 1 1/2 hour, and I want to be there.

BBL

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Vann, Thanks for explaining about the kimonos. I was going to ask but forgot.

Defoe, enjoy the parade. It has been years since we have gone to a parade. The ones here are just too commercial anymore. You are only allowed to park at certain places and they charge outrages prices. You are not allowed to bring chairs, cushions, food or drink from home. They charge the school bands (I am not sure if its a blanket charge for all entries) a large entrance fee that only the richer neighborhood schools that have parents sponsoring them can afford. So IMHO it’s not a fair competition. The school bands here compete against each other and they use a point system. The largest single point awards come from these parades. So for the smaller towns around here, and the poor neighborhood schools that can not afford the entry fee and the trip transportation don’t stand a chance. There is a small town that has a drum team that I know would win every competition if they could get some financial help. The teacher is a music prodigy. They are amazing.

I too get those nights that I feel as though I am trying to solve world peace before my brain will shut off. This is where the dresser/wine cabinet came from. I spent most of the night going through the steps I would need to do to complete the project to get the look I wanted. I was exhausted when I finally fell asleep.

Well time to jump into the shower and head up to Ceasar's Palace to see Suzie. Have a great day all. Our weather looks like it is going to be a perfect day for us all.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking and trying to get the little bedroom organized. I took a picture from the doorway of the catchall but am too embarassed to post it. Have to go get MIL's old china cabnet to store her stuff in that I have. Tired of seeing it in a box....

Done working for the day - canned 14 qts of tomatoes - and would you believe DH opened one to try it....grrrr - who has the 2x4....

I'm showered, need to fix my hair some and I'm ready for DGS first football game in his life. He is so nervous. Hope he doesn't get flattened.....he's the smallest one on the team and doesn't know what to do!! (all the other boys played last year) I'm taking my tums because I will be a wreck....also have my camera, so maybe I'll have some pics to show ya.

Talk about parades - we live in a little farming town (but becoming suburbia) and our parades are l-o-n-g - well over an hour. You bring your chair and sit along main street - people walk along throwing candy and passing out water. The old soldiers stroll by and I always get puddley eyed - and do so when the band plays. We missed out 4th of July parade this year as we were vacationing....darn.

Well, I just sent DH out for another bucket of tomatoes. After the game I'll do another batch..I'm on a roll... DH got out the stuff to clean the chimney - yahoo!! Winter is coming

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Good afternoon all,

I must have caught the cleaning bug! Got done in the Salon today and started in on a few things that I've been putting off. Went through a Pile of receipts and put them in the accordian file. Took all my seeds out of the snackie drawer and put them in a bag. Wow, the snack drawer is officially seed free, hasn't been for a long time. Checked on a couple of eBay things. And, I cleaned my desk off. Whew,,I think next I will tackle the entry closet. If I don't check in by noon tomorrow,,,send a rescue crew!

Sorry to hear about all the people who couldn't sleep. Hate nights like that.

sarv,
I'll have to get to the Dahlia Forum. Thanks for the info. I usually don't buy Dahlias cause I'm too lazy to pull them every fall, but these were already blooming and I couldn't resist them. Stay away from your MIL,,,better yet,,,put some happy pills in her coffee.

Sheila,
LOL,,,Lauren said that the little girl ran up the custom made draperies and mom pulled "The moving Velcro" off and put her on the couch,,,she hopped right off and up the drapes she went again. Lauren said she saw little pin holes with sun coming through so she knew it wasn't the first time and was positive it wouldn't be the last. I guess they have the run of the house and are doing great. Next time Lauren went over there, little girl Miew Miew (sp?) was working her way around the Persian rug, with her teeth and her claws. I"m surprised you still have that pic. They were really cute. I'll see them again sooner or later. Yes, people always seem to want to share when you're going through something,,,,grrrrr How speshul of your Ex MIL to want to share with you.

Darius,
Sounds like something odd is Definitely going on. Hope you can get it straightened out before they shut it off. Bill will need to get up in that tree and cover that hollow. I'm Not going through finding good homes for kittens every year,,,grrrr

Bonnie,
Havve fun at the Fall Fest.

Casey,
Have a great time.

Well, off to the closet. bbl,

Well back from the parade. It was a good sized parade this year, with antique tractors, old cars, horses, floats, well you all know the make up of a parade. There were vendors all over the place, I didn't stop at many, but maybe will go back later this afternoon. Stopped at several yard sales, only bought one plant, supposed to be for butterflies, the way she described it, sounded like Red Hot Poker to me. Do they grow from corms or bulbs?

Stocked up on meat for the guests the first of the week, Got chicken, pork ribs, hamburger and a nice beef roast. So we will have plenty to eat.

Sarv, you sure are on a roll. Hope DGS does well at his game. Odds are he won't even get in the game, hope he does, but if not experienced may not.

GG, slow down girl, you are making me dizzy with all that cleaning.

Carat, please tell susieq hi from me, hope she is enjoying her trip.

Darius, hope you get the cable/internet bill straightened out.

Viann, don't think I commented on the kimonos, I would have thought that they would have been lightweight and comfortable.

Well, gonna go dig a few holes, and plop some plants in, then check on the pool, chemical balance/water temp, may cut a few dahlias and glads to bring in. And I need to take a picture of a shrub that is infested with something, and post it on the bug forum. I wondered why it was loosing leaves, but something is eating on it.

Well I will BBL

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi there everyone,

Spent the morning outside in the garden. Starting to chop things down and do fall clean-up before the fall gets really busy. We pulled out the beans. Not producing much anymore and the garden is sometimes too wet to get out there and pick. That gave us space to start emptying last year's compost pile Eventually we will screen it and use it in the garden, but for now it can sit there and we have space for the stuff we take out of the garden as the other pile is pretty full. Better after DH climbed in and stomped on it, though. Have declared war on the violets that volunteer all over my yard. I know I'll never get rid of them but if I can pull out lots I can keep them under control.

In regard to Kimonos, I found some info on Internet -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimonos#History_and_description
and
http://web-japan.org/kidsweb/japan/housing/q6.html

There are the very simple cotton ones (Yukata) that you often find in hotel rooms, but the dressy ones for women are very complex.

Gotta get in the bath, soak my sore back and wash my hair.

Just want to say hi to everyone , old and new. I was very busy all morning tried to post here but SIL came to do a few things for me which I appreciate, now I am on my way to do a few errands but want to send you a few pictures I tokk yesterday about Samson and the new garden stuff I bought

and here is the golden rod from my pasture that is just perfect right now

Thumbnail by Maria
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

AAAACHOOOOO!!! Maria, can't come over for coffee -I'd sneeze all over everything!! Goldenrod and I don't get along. It is graceful looking tho!!

Well, we made it thru the first football game with no injuries and DGS played a ton. He was quite proud of himself - didn't do any outstanding plays, but was in there pushing and jumping on the heap at the appropriate time. My fanny is numb from sitting on those metal bleachers. Gonna go throw the old football pads in the car before I forget about it! It was cute, as we were leaving the field, DGS and DS walked ahead of us talking about all the plays...boys will be boys...

DH is out picking more tomatoes for me to do - might as well dirty up the kitchen and get it all over with....My juice seperated and I don't like the looks of that.....looks much nicer before I process it..

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Sarv, I mentioned before that people often confuse their allergies and think goldenrod is the culprit, when it is actually ragweed that makes them wheeze and sneeze etc. I found this link, which I think you will find interesting.
http://www.und.edu/org/soaringeagleprairie/2005/identifyingplants/prairieplantpages/yellow/goldenrod/Allergy.html

Had a nice chat with Maria this afternoon, and she assured me that she is resting! I suggested she just touch bases with us once a day so that we know that she is all right. She mentioned her DSIL coming over to help her, how lucky is that? My SIL is a nice enough fellow, but I can't picture him giving me a hand with anything.

Was busy this morning but mostly spent the afternoon loafing and even took a little nap. Wind is very strong, blew my little plant stand over on the deck, but the plants were about done for and nothing broke, so no harm done. Need to make a run to pick up papers, maybe something will catch my eye for dinner...can't have pizza two nights in a row. But there is always the deli.... No spinach salad though. Threw out the package I had in the crisper.

Ann, I have a kimono that my DH's former boss brought back from Japan, the silk is just beautiful. And it is very very long. Maybe someday I'll use it for a wall hanging, but for now it sits in a drawer. I posted a picture of it sometime last year. You had a wonderful trip, what a nice variety of experiences.

Kelly, kittens are very determined to get themselves to the highest possible point in a room. Sammi and Olivia have gotten over the climbing stage, but now they are into dragging out their blankets from the "kitty cave" where I had originally planned to store firewood. Sammi likes to put it where the sun shines in, but he won't put it away later. Same with the toys. LOL This morning 'livie was up on the highest shelf of the cat tree, chasing her tail around the center post.

Time to hit the road...Hope Casey had a good lunch and took some pictures to share with us....

Sheila what fun it was to chat with you on the phone, just loved it and you are right was just about to tell
Sarv one can't get alergic to golden rod but it is the ragweed bloomimg just about the same time. As far as i l know I am not alergic to any thing not even rag weed

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I love goldenrods! We used to look all over and try to find one with a boll. We'd take it to 'show and tell'. Does anyone remember seeing them? It's a roundish ball in the stem of the goldenrod, usually not too far from the top, and it's made by some sort of bug. I guess I should google it and find out what it really is. Now I am curious! Thanks for the beautiful pic Maria and the reminder. :)

Oh my, DH has the news on and there's abt 4-5 tornado warnings just west of us. DS is at a tractor pull N of Sioux Falls and is not in a good place right now. The storms are heading NE. DD is going to call him and let him know to be watching the sky very closely.

We got home abt 10:30 pm from visitation last night. What a sad, sad time. The mom,Joyce, looked totally, totally exhausted - on the verge of collapse. The two kids at home and dad looked tough, but better than mom. The three oldest girls are married with kids and are coping much better. I drove home through storms and high wind, had to keep both hands on the wheel to keep the van going straight. I woke up around 4:20 am and was thinking and thinking, ended up reading most of the Book of Job. I just had Joyce on my mind and trying to think of how would I cope and how can she cope, etc., on and on, my mind just couldn't stop thinking abt her. Heartbreaking, that's all I can say. Finally slept from 6 am to 7:45 am.

Went to Canton, SD to help DD move. The carpet in both bedrooms and living/diningroom is completely infested with fleas!! I walked across the room in sandals and had 4-5 on each foot. They love me but I don't love them! DD called landlord, went and rented a carpet cleaner and got pyrethrin shampoo from the vet. Real pyrethrin, not the synthetic stuff because the vet said the real stuff does a much better job. Put a couple of squirts in the water tank and DD did both bedrooms, I did the rest. I had to change the water 4 times. It was filthy and full of dead critters. (the other kind of ankle-biters, not toddlers, lol, they always bite me around my ankles) Fans are running in each room now. DD will set off a bug bomb tonight and hopefully we can move the big stuff over tmr.

The kitchen is almost all moved and unpacked. She's not too happy with the landlord. He insisted that she pay and move in halfway thru the month because he didn't want to lose a whole month of rent, but no stove yet, no frig -he has to put an outlet in the basement it and now we had to do the carpet cleaning so she's going to tell him that she should not have to pay two weeks extra since she can't even move in. She doesn't dare bring her ferret, Max, over for a week at least. She's going to use carpet fleapowder yet too, to make sure none survived the other treatments... especially on the edges of the rooms.

Love the kitties! Had to laugh at our's last night - he came in drenched, did not appreciate the rain.

Hi to everyone... here's the radar from a few mins ago...

Thumbnail by kooger
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Well, I'll be -I'm gonna go out and pick me a big bunch of that gorgeous goldenrod!! Learn something new everyday!! Thanks gals..

Kooger, I've been thinking of that poor mom too (having two boys myself) I bet she is about ready to collapse...poor dear. Makes you want to hug your own and tell them you love them to pieces... Yuck on the fleas in the house- I've never experienced that, but hopefully won't have to. Poo on that greedy landlord too. Sure hope the tornados pass you by. I expect they will be our way tomorrow. The weather guy is saying - hold onto your hats- a bad front will arrive Sun. afternoon.

Just finished up my 4th canner of tomatoes- the last one still needs to go in it, but I have to wait until number 3 is done...That's all I'm doing this year for tomaotes. Tomorrow, maybe I'll tackle the grapes...

DH knows I am whipped, so he's making tuna buns- sounds good to me!! I'm gonna lay on the couch and he can serve me.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Hi all
i've been lurking with a nasty headache which i attribute to the weird weather and ragweed. It just won't quit, and my stomach is getting queasy from Tylenol

Kooger-I'm so sorry about Luke(?) I hope I remembered his name right) and will keep his family in my prayers, what a horrible tragedy. I hope all stay safe in those storms milling around you!!

Kelly-Nice to see you, you would be proud I got my hair cut into layers and had a nice rinse put in that looks very natural but not graying. I look like a real person for a change!! The kittens are adorable

Maria-The picture of Samson is too cute!!

bonnie-the parade sounds lovely. Schroon Lake always had a wonderful small town parade. I did floats for the church a couple times, the last time we won (!). It has become very crowded and I feel dangerous as more rowdies and city folk show up. I wouldn't take my horses out...too many smart alecks tossing cherry bombs or doing whatever to cause problems.

I've heard that the little village up by the farm we bought still has a home town parade, so maybe someday I can ride in that.

We checked on the farm today, the basement's all poured (YAY!) and gets backfilled this week. I stopped at a roadside stand and bought an "Iron Age" antique planter/seeder/cultivator with a whole box full of attachments. Anyone know anything about these? It'll be fun figuring out how to use all the plow and cultivator attachments.

I've read all and will keep checking, head hurts too much to catch up with everyone....~~~~~

Hi folks,

This just came in an e-mail. Thought all you with pets might enjoy it.

Quoting:
HOW DID DOGS COME TO BE?
Where do pets come from ?
A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."
And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you
as I do, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, " I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said,
"Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a crap one way or the other...

Kooger. hope the tornados stay well clear of you and DH. What a bummer about the fleas and the landlord. I sure hope that DD is able to get just compensation.

Sarv - you've been too busy. Take a break before you tackle the grapes. What do you plan to do with them?

Dorothy, glad to hear of progress on your farm house. Are you still keeping up your other thread about it? Would enjoy pictures, but if you are keeping it up, I must have the thread marked as not being watched.

Well I have to enter a handbell piece into the computer for my new ringer. We've done it before, but I don't seem to already have it in the computer. Have to decide whether to use the old version on my old computer or finally figure out how to enter notes into the new version (about 6 months old) on the new computer. Someday I will have to seriously learn the new software.

Ann

LOL Ann ... loved that!

sarv, yes ... you've been way too busy! Oh that tomato juice does sound good. Please give your DGS a big pat on the back for his first game. I know you're so proud of him. :-)

Casy, am ~ing at you and Suzie. Y'all have one heck of a good time out there!

Hi Maria, now aren't you the lucky one to have such a wonderful family? :-) Wonderful pics of Samson. Give him a pat for me.

Defoe, glad you had fun at the parade today.

Darius, meant to comment on those yummy looking ribs! Sounds like you and your DB are having fun. I understand how it is, though. I just had mine visit me. :-)

McCool, how's your DH doing tonight? Have y'all had any success with the arrangements for his surgery?

Hi Kelly ... slow down with that cleaning! You're making me feel lazy! Glad the kitties found a good home.

Ann, those links were very interesting. I sure didn't know all that. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you've been mighty busy in the garden today.

I got my hair trimmed, went to the grocery, worked in the yard and cooked mexican for supper. Here's a pic of a lime off my key lime tree. Used a ruler so you could see how pretty it is.

I'm hoping everyone has a good night and am ~ing to those I've missed.

Ann, that e-mail is so cool. I just love it.

Sarv,
Now, that's a Mess o' maters! I still had 30 qts. left from last year,, so have only canned two canners worth this year.

I had a nice surprise this afternoon. An old friend stopped by with a beautiful white Buddlei Bush that he grew from seed. It's only about 30" tall, but nice and full. He was my delivery man for 17 years at the flower shop-is still delivering and he's 77. You'd swear he's not a day over 65. Just got a new computer, and is taking a 1 year course at Black Hawk College, to familiarize himself with it. Is that cool or what. He is an avid, avid gardener-flowers and veggies.
I told him how proud of him I was, and that he ROCKED! can't wait till he gets on line, and I can introduce him to DG! He'll be in "Garden Heaven"!

Kooger,
YUK on the apt., and the fleas. I've had cats most of my adult life, and only had an "infestation" only once, about 20 years ago. Had to bomb my house. since then I've been digilent about preventive medications on my "girls". I definitely think your DD deserves a refund on the rest of the month!

Maria,
Love the vase of Golden Rod. It was always my favorite "filler flower" for vase arrangements, but is beautiful (as you've shown) on it's own. So many people think they are allergic to it, not realizing that Ragweed is the real problem. We called it "Solidago" in the shop, because so many people were "turned off" by the thought of Goldenrod. funny

We spent some wonderful hours out on the patio with neighbors this evening. We are so blessed, with the best neighbors you could imagine. Wish this weather could continue. The air is so dry, but warm, with a wonderful breeze. Loved the tinkling sound of our small wind chimes.

Bye, everyone!
Deanna

Hi all,

I had written a middling-sized post and it got lost in cyber-space! I have no idea what I did that had that result, but I 'm way too tired to repeat everything.

The craft fair was somewhat dissappointing as it was the first time in three years that we had decent weather and set up outdoors instead of being crammed into the Town Hall. There were more people about, but unfortunately, there were a lot more "lookers" than buyers. Sheila, thanks for the compliment and if any of the new people are interested in taking a look, my website is http://www.silverandstone.com/

I really have to share something with all of you now. When we arrived at the fair site early this morning, one of the organizers greeted us and asked for out site number. DH opened the driver's side door and was talking with her, then turned to me and said "Oh, have you seen our mushroom?" I glanced over and, despite being very tired and logey, I bailed out of that van in under one second! His "mushroom" was a wasp's nest built onto the inner door near the hinge with a couple of yellow jackets crawling out of it! DH, aka "nature boy" (NOT!) apparently couldn't tell the difference. He said that he figured that it was something that "grew in the dark", therefore must be a mushroom! I asked if he'd even noticed the wasps crawling on it? Nope, course not! If we were really lucky, we may have bequeathed a few extra yellow jackets to the lovely town of Leicester, but I suspect not. For the rest of the day DH and I accessed the van from the passenger side and luckily, the seals seemed to hold as no wasps appeared in the cab or cargo area. We bought this van third-hand from a florist and generally only use it for fairs or for extra large trash runs. I am a confirmed organic gardener, but in this instance am afraid that I will go for the "big guns" and buy a quick-kill insecticide before the next craft fair!

I'm afraid that there's far too much that I should respond to, but am too tired out to do so. We have to get up relatively early tomorrow (though not as early as today) to go to a trade center that's having a special showing. I need to order some stuff for the holiday season.

Maybe tomorrow evening I'll have time to respond to everyone. In the meantime, I wish you all a peaceful night and sweet dreams. I'll post tomorrow's thread and then Viola-ann will be taking over for the rest of the month. Please don't forget that we need a volunteer for October.

Wait, don't go to bed yet, I haven't posted my last time!! LOL. Well, have to confess the lazies hit me this afternoon, and I did not get one thing accomplished. The noon time update was it. Mr. B and me shared the couch this afternoon, did I say that yesterday too? Anyway we seem to be making a new tradition.

dmc, so sorry about your headache, and the stomach queasies. I didn't know that you got a hair cut and rinse, let's see a pic please. How horrible that some people would toss cherry bombs into a parade with horses. They are spooky without that going on. Good progress on the house.

I01, don't know squat about limes, only the ones I see in the grocery store, so is it really a good size? Sounds like you had a busy day with all that runnin around.

Deanna, I have never seen goldenrod used here in florist arrangements. And this has to be the "goldenrod capital" of the world. They are pretty, but carry a bad reputation.

Darius, so what did you do today, that you are turning in so early?

McCool, Nature boy, doesn't know wasps from yellow jackets. How you should really educate him, as mushrooms usually don't bite!!

M5, glad you tossed the bagged spinach. I have often wondered about the packaged lettuce and spinach. I just feel more comfortable washing my own, and knowing that it has been cleaned.

Viann, just loved your e-mail. And how true it is. Miss Boots came to mind for the cat, as she is the most unfriendly cat I have ever seen, and selective. If affection is in her, I am the recipient, as she has NOTHING to do with DH. Sometimes even refuses to come inside if he is the one opening the door for her. Heaven help, if something happens that I cannot attend her needs.

Sarv, glad DGS got to play, and that it went well, with the exception of the numb butt. Slow down girl, surely those tomatoes will last another day or two. I can just see my DH serving me supper with me on the couch!!

kooger, my heart is just breaking for that mom. I just cannot imagine going through that. My mind just will not wrap around that at all. Sure hope the tornadoes stay away, and that DH will be safe as he travels. Oh how horrible about the flea infestation. When I took Mr. B to the vet this week, the vet/I discovered he had fleas again. Since he is inside/outside, have to be more vigilent about the flea control. Only good thing about winter. I am checking tonight to see if there are fleas in the carpet, if so this house will be getting the borax treatment. Can't stand the critters.

Maria, what a picture. Samson seems to be having a good ole time barking/looking at the statues. Sure hope he decides in a hurry that they are no threat to him, and he accepts them. What a nice DSIL you have. Of course I could tell that just by meeting him! Give John and Cynthia my best, and Connie says hello too.

Well I have some more forums I want to check before I turn in. Tomorrow is gonna be busy, so will post if I can, but definitely before bed. You all have a good day, and take it easy. Remember it is a "day of rest".

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Samson really likes them now, it is the first thing he does when he goes out checks on them and wags hes tail while he sniff them all over especially the girl, guess he has not forgotten what he is, lol

good night all sweet dreams for every one

Hi All,

Well, the closet didn't get very far. I sat down to eat a sandwich and that's where I stayed. Got drowsy and took a nice nap. The closet isn't going anywhere.

Woke up and defrosted a nice pork roast that Bill cut into 1" slices and grilled with Lemon Pepper and Chicken and Rib Seasoning. Scrumptious!

Maria,
What a cute picture of Samson and his new little buddy. I'm thinkin' I may need to go out and find some Goldenrod. Your's is beautiful.

dmc,
Good to see you also. Bet your hair looks great. Do you like it?

Ann,
That e-mail is fantastic. Thanks for posting it.

Elaine,
I slowed down real quick like,,,LOL Nice Lime! Wish we could have citrus trees up here.

Deanna,
What a nice surprise visit from your friend,,,also a nice gift.

Mc Cool,
Sorry to hear the craft fair wasn't busier. Ewe on the hive.

Well, still have to do some studying for tomorrows class so better get to it. It's already 11:45,,,grrrrr.

Kelly
