My tacca is blooming again, a work of art.
Tacca nivea (bat lily )
Truly breathtaking!
Giancarlo, I have heard these guys are tricky to grow- tell me all you know. Please?
No, they are not, just two things Use good soil and water them
when you see the leaves wilting a little, and then you soak it , (lots
of water )
Good luck, they are worth the try.
Thank you! Will do.
Hi yall
That is wonderful. I love the leaves. I'm looking it up on PF right now. What kind of sun does it take?
Jeri
Filtered sun to shade.
good luck, you wouldn't regretted.
That is special. I have seen them at the SF Conservatory of Flowers. I think I will try one if they are not that hard.
Hi Armando,
Looking real pretty. You have the black too, don't you? Good to see you post.
Save up your money, girls......
Hap
Beautiful plant, good job. I've killed several of them.
Wow, wow, and wow again! A gorgeous picture, and a bloom to be very proud of. Congratulations. Wow!
Erick
Wow, that is such a super cool plant! I just ordered two of these (one black and one white) from Eldon Access. I sure hope they'll do okay here. I'm going to put them into pots, so they don't get our extreme (well for Southern California) weather. Seeing yours, I can hardly wait to get them! Thanks for sharing :-)
I would like to get one, would you recommend one from seed or not?
Sue, that's the black one.
It sure is. I considered getting one until I heard that they are hard to grow. I like easy stuff, so I declined. But, if I get the rest of my garden in shape, maybe I will try some crazy stuff. What the....it's only money....
Good attitude Hap! Money can also buy a nice big green house!
Yes, but here, I'm afraid I would cook everything. Shade houses are the key word here. LOL
I just saw these for sale on a site yesterday. I had to go back and do a double-take, because your picture and their picture look a lot alike!, lol...
Both have the fencing in the background, with the bamboo type plant to the right...you must have similar gardening tastes to the people on this site:

Nice bloom!, by the way! Would you say they like the same conditions as anthiriums??
-T
Seedpicker_tx,
I will say yes
Sue
,
Happy is right, that is the black which is nice but don't compare
to the white.
Armando
What a cool plant,
GianCarlo you have the coolest stuff. Whenever i go to ID a philodendron or an aroid on PF , there you are.
Thanks for the pic.
They like damp and shade ?
Celt,
Thanks for the accolades, they like filtered sun and of course Miami
is humid all the time.
Mine grow in constant shade here...and under the overhang of the roof, so I have to remember to water. They do beautifully!!! I think the ambient humidity really helps!!!
I just broke down and bought one, lol...
I've wanted one for a long time, and they also had the medinilla magnifica I wanted, also.
I sure hope mine grow as happily and healthy as yours! Ü
-Taylor
Taylor, are you keeping it in a pot or putting it in the ground?
In the ground, but protected.
We have a patio that is 60 foot long and 15 deep. It has a clear polycarbonate roof and a concrete floor. In that floor there is a 4x4 foot section that is not covered with concrete. I turned it into a tropical bed. It has pink anthiriums as the groundcover, and four vertical poles that have 2 green jade vines, and a stephanotis, and a clero. delectum. (I am considering taking out the invasive delectum and replacing it with a pink tecomanthe).
We have a gas heater hooked up for one side of it,(for a hothouse seed/seedling room), and the other side is kept around 40 for winterizing the more mature plants, and for gving the orchids their cold season rest. (I got the divided greenhouse idea from my Mittleider CD).
This will be in the section that gets down to 40, but not freezing.
-Taylor
Taylor! That is a great set up! What orchids are growing. I have cymbidiums, but of course can't get them to bloom because I can't give them the appropriate cold season!
April-
I have too many orchids to list them, lol...I get them from a friend who does commercial interior accounts. When they stop blooming, they pull them and replace with something blooming. They used to go in the trash, until I stepped in. Now, I can't say no, but have become overloaded with them, lol...
You are an entire zone warmer than I am...do you have a patio, or porch? The plastic is really cheap. We buy it from H. depot in the paint section. It is the 4 mil plastic and is around $20 for a 10x100 ft roll. I don't even think you in your zone, would need a heater...
Well we do get some freezes here so that presents somewhat of a problem. Cymbidiums are not so good for this area because they like cool nights and warm days. We have plenty of warm days, LOL! but cool nights are few and far between except in the winter and then I believe our nights are a bit too cool. My grandfather was a wholesale grower in southern California when I was a kid and even there they had to get up occassionally in the middle of the night and turn on the heaters, although most of the time they could be grown outside in the shade. Some of the orchids that like warmer temps can be grown outside here- at least that's what I hear.
You are lucky to have a friend in that biz!
thanks so much for sharing! i've been watching this plant at the nursery for months wondering what it was. now that i know, i guess i'll be making a trip back to purchase it. sooo cool!
Yay!! It came in today!!
Giancarlo-Thank you so much for the inspriration to buy one! I am VERY pleased with this company. They sent a huge one, and it even is in bud!! Unfortunately one of them got broken in shipping, but there is still another popping up...
Really tempted to buy a few more at that price! $19.99 is a great deal for this size...it is sitting on 18" tiles, so it is about three to four feet tall
That is georgeous please post your first bloom. I am envious. I wish we could grow that here!!
Giancarlo-
Thank you, again!! Your photo was contagious!, lol...I had to buy one immediately, lol...
Just hope I can get those gorgeous blooms that you get!
-T
Seed, that's a nice one, only $19.99? Are you going to keep it in a pot and bring it in for the winter?
Where'd you get it?
Marie-
why couldn't you grow it, there? I think they are rated for your zone, aren't they?...
fly_girl-
I bought it from Natural Selections Exotics. I posted the link above, but here it is, again for you:

I posted about where I'm going to keep it on this thread. You might read my earlier post on this thread, on the 18th...
