ZZZzzzzzzzz.....ummm, Huh? Oh yeah, good morning, I think.
We came from over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/649844/
Coffee and ...... for Tuesday, September 12th
Good morning and good night! Have a wonderful day all!
Ever had a cheesecake chimichanga? Oh, they are sooo good!!! Our specialty dessert at El Caperal.
Good Morning - I'd grab the worm, but I think somer beat me to it!! Too dark outside to see what's happening, but we had downpours last night - things will be squishy today for sure. I never did take a garden walk yesterday - since things are major winding down, I am a little lax at my walks.
Today is the funeral for DIL's grandma. DH went off to work and will come home to shower and dress. I wish he would have just stayed at home - he needs a hair cut and a beard trim and I know we will be in a frazzle getting it all in. I can't get my duds on until I dehair him, so I will have to wait until the bitter end too. DIL is known for showing up late, so DH said he might as well go on to work.
Darius- where does your bro stash his clothes etc? I didn't see any big bags hanging on the bike!! I would have loved seeing you on the bike too!! And scoot, that pic was precious. The bike looks so antiquated now!!
Sheesh defoe, I'll be your guest anytime!! Yum... I make that better than s*x cake often - haven't found anyone who doesn't like it!! Have you ever made it using kaluha?
Mary, aww that poor horse. Hope he is able to chow down and feel better soon. Do horses lay down when they are sick? You are such a good neighbor to be taking on watching him. I have some DL prolifirations to get in the ground, but I need to round up the area first. It is just in a fence row and the ground is the pits, but I am going to add some tough old DL for some color.
Carat - that is a load of kids to lose - do they return often? Can't wait to see the finished product on the wine chest. I always have some volunteer cosmos grow. This year I have the most gorgeous one it is dark pink in the center and light pink around the edges. Let me see if I can find a pic of it. I'm saving its seeds for sure...
Good morning all. Tried to read up on everything I missed over the past week but information overload and can't remember one darn thing I read. DH was on vacation last week and we planned on spending the entire time together and as life does I ended up it the hospital with a very angry appendix. So his vacation was spent with me in the hospital. Only 3 days and it was kinda nice being waited on hand and foot by all once I got home. This laser surgery is pretty cool. The incision is small compared to my DH scar of the removal of his 50 years ago.
While I was in, DH removed some shrubs we were planning on taking out in front of the porch and moved my fern-leafed bleeding hearts there for me. Where i had them they were getting way too much sun and showing signs of distress. They were fine there when the tree was there but then the tree died and we removed it now its a pretty much full sun bed. Oh well more plants for next spring. I moved some baby heucheras there and DH was so mad hollering at me because I was suposed to be taking it easy. I could do that.
I can't baby myself too long or I'll go nuts. I need to be doing something. Overdid a little yesterday though.....a little ouchy but I didn't dare say anything........
Has been raining here since Sunday night and have heard thunder and lightening this morning so I may end up shuttine 'er down for a bit. The rain is supposed to carry throuh until tomorrow afternoon and be in the 80's by Sat. Its cold out there now though. I put the heavier comforter on the bed yesterday cause I froze Sunday night. Would have helped if I'd have closed the windows in the bdroom. Oh well.
My DGB turns one next week! The time has gone by so fast. She is going to be so much fun this christmas! Will have to hang the tree from the ceiling but it'll be fine. I can't wait to watch her eyes when the tree lights are on...............It'll be like experiencing christmas for the very first time through her eyes. Last year she was only 3 mo old. I can't wait.
Well yes I can. I need a long and mild fall to get everything done that needs to be done and with bulbs coming in (which haven't arrived yet) I'll need to get them in the ground.
So I guess I shouldn't be wishing the time away hey?
Its lightening pretty good out there and pouring so I'm gonna shut down for a bit. I will be back later though.
~~~~~~~~~ing to every one Cherie
Scoots, I can't believe you kept that old photo on me on my Uncle David's Indian motorcycle!!! It has always been one of my favorite photos. :) He and his wife both died within the last 2 years, and amongst the papers she kept was the original bill of sale for the bike, during WWII. I'd say I am about 2 years old in that photo, so 1942 or so.
Sarv, if you look closely at the photo I posted of my brother, there is a large backpack strapped on the passeger seat, plus he has 2 saddlebags, so lots of room for clothes, plus the 5 pounds of snow crabs and 5 pounds of shrimp in dry ice.
If Bobby can get the timer on his camera to work right, we'll get a photo of both of us on his bike.
~~~ to everyone, BBL
Good morning,
Was MIA yesterday. Guests left about 9 am and I spent the rest of the day until after 5 in the garden destroying my lower back. But I got a lot done - planted (from pots to the garden) or moved about 10 Hostas, did general weeding, pulled out some over-the-hill annuals and started cutting back some straggly perenniels
Remember the committee I was on to decide what to do with a $300,000 inheritance at the church? Well we had our final meeting last night doing final proofreading of the report which will go to Council for approval next month. No more meetings from that committee.
Cherie - so sorry about your being in the hospital while DH had his vacation. Glad that the appendix was taken care of though. Hope your recovery continues to go smoothly. Do try to resist overdoing things for awhile.
Sounds like you people in the mid-west already have the rain they've promised us for tomorrow. I'll have to see how the back feels - there are still things that need doing in the garden and I'll get busier in late September.
Have a great day, everyone.
BBL
Ann
cece- you are out in your garden already after your appendix was taken out!!! My oh my. I had mine taken out and I was in the hospital for 5 days on a morphine pump and felt awful for a week afterwards. It took me several weeks to feel human again. Mine was ready to burst - and we were on vacation up north camping. Everyone sat by the campfire and I was in the hospital!! waaaa, still feel mad that I had to miss all the fun!! Plus I have an 8 inch nasty scar to carry with me forever...
Darius-that was YOU on the old motorcycle??? I'm confused. I can't believe your DB lugged all that seafood on his bike...what a guy. Get the timer working= we need a good laugh !!
Well, my pictures are all screwed up and I can't resize the cosmos I wanted to show you. I tried posting it in the big size it was, but it wouldn't go thru...probably my fault and not DG's. I'll keep fussing with it...I want to win this battle!!
Vi- take it easy.....don't want you in bed with the ouchies too!! If the rain would go away, I'd love to get back in the garden...
Hi again
Nice day here, way too much to do....
Yesterday was a day of mixed emotions, sounds like most of you had a good day except Bonnie needs to get better, Cherie too, sorry to hear about hospitalization. And sarv, you do need to get an answer on the itchies!!
Mary-unexplained lameness is such a worry, I'm glad you got to look at the horse and get him into a more suitable pasture. I sure hope the fires stay away, I'm sorry they're still burning. Awful to contemplate the destruction.
Casey- Your wine rack is going to be great! I like to sew as well, and a couple years ago bought a 1903 Singer treadle machine in perfect condition, still has its owners manual, an oak box with all the attachments for ruffling and gathering, etc, etc, spare bobbins, and little wooden capsules with extra needles!! The drawers were packed with stuff, although the funniest was a little brass pipe and what I was told later was crack, concealed in a box of incense at the bottom....can you imagine being busted for drugs and trying to explain where you got them? In an antique sewing machine from an old lady's estate???
LOL anyway, I have not put the time into learning it, I did learn to wind the bobbins and thread and oil it. My other machine is a Sears from the 1970's that was my mothers. Still works great and I don't have to read the manual...that's my reason for never getting a new one!
Elaine-Gorgeous brug!! I've never grown one
Lauri-Beautiful job on the gardens!
darius! Hooray your brother got there safely , the menu sounds great, I hope you have a wonderful visit.
I'm forgetting lots but I'm pretty sure everyone else had a good day yesterday, so I was glad about that....whew, no big worries.....~~~~see you all later.
Yes, Sarv, that was ME on that old motorcycle! I had posted that photo some years ago, don't remember what thread or why anymore. I was surprized that Scooterbug still had the photo, but then she rides motorcycles.
dmcdevitt,
Reminds me of an experience I had in the early 70's. I've always been naive, and was especially so, back then.
My (then)husband and I rented a duplex that was previously occupied by my Twin brother-who was a neat freak like me. His garage was immaculate, with all the tools expertly organized. You know the type: "A place for everything, and everything in it's place".
We loved the place, but unfortunately, because of job transfer, only stayed a year.
My husband left for job in Nebraska, and left it up to me to pack and get ready to move.
So thats what I did. And when is the best time to sort and get rid of all unneeded "fluff", than when you're moving? Right?
Sooo, when I got the household goods packed and organized, I headed to the garage to do the same. I was so proud of my accomplishments, and looked forward to him coming back one weeekend to help with the final move to our new place.
The first place he headed, when he got home-was to the garage.
In no time, he was back in the house, demanding to know what I had done with the contents of all the baby food jars (on a spindle) over the work bench. I told him I threw all of my brother(David's) grass seed away, as it probably wasn't viable anymore, and we wouldn't need it anyway-as we were moving into an apt, in Nebraska. (notice the naivity here?).
Well, he hit the roof. Seems like it was "Grass" alright-the "hawaiian gold" kind-in fact, over $300. worth of it!!
How was I to know?! Anyway, wasn't long till he found someone more "Hip" about such things, and dumped me and our sons.
I still think it's funny, and the boys and I were better off without him.
DeannaV
Good Morning everybody. Slept well, woke about 5:30 with the coughs again, but got up took some cough syrup and went back to bed. Slept until 8:00. Feel fine except for the cough. Still have about a weeks worth of meds left, but think I will call the Dr, and see if I can get something else, as this doesn't seem to be working.
Darius, I was confused too about the pic. So scooterbug evidently liked the pic enough that she saved it. What a hoot.
DeannaV, welcome, sorry to hear that your naiviety reaped such drastic action, but as you say, probably better off.
dmc, busted for crack,LOL, I can hear it now, but officer, it was in an antique sewing machine I bought. Yeah right. I bet they do hear a lot of unbelievable stories.
Mary, glad you got a chance to look at that horse, and that he sees more at ease in a smaller pasture. I liked your idea of a contest about the designer dogs, but I would like to suggest that instead of having to take one, the winner would have to take all!!. I don't know what in the world we will do with them, but I will work tirelessly to find them good homes. Humane Society, will be last option, as I want to know they are well places. I am not saying they wouldn't place them well, but if I do it, I will KNOW.
cece, sorry to hear about you ending up in the hosital. I still have all my original equipment, so I could be a candidate for something going wrong in the future. Sure hope you feel better soon.
Darius, when are you cooking that shrimp? Just wanted to know in advance, so that I will have time to get there!!
Viann, sounds like you were "busy as a bee" yesterday, and got a lot accomplished. Sorry about the back though.
So Sarv, tell us what you found to wear to the funeral. I have several "good" things hanging in the closet that I could press into use if need be. My everyday wear is t-shirts, shorts, in summer or jeans in winter. Unless I am going "to town", shoes are a little used option here. Told DH, that if I went first, don't even think about shoes, would be kicking the casket open!!
Well, still is raining and gloomy, so another day inside. I have bills to pay, and some filing to catch up on, so I guess that will be the days work. I need to wash the guest room sheets, so unless the weather improves, the weeding will be put off another day.
Well, off to start the day. Everybody stay well.
Sarv yes already. I can't seem to just sit. It must come from my DM She could be sicker than a dog or in so much pain but she was always on the go. Housework, yard work babysitting alot of kids, . As I got older I'd say Mom lay down for awhile and she always said "no rest for the wicked" I guess I grew up more like her than I thought I would. I feel better if I'm busy anyway.
yes dmc- sewing machine right.....lol I wish I could have been there to see the look on your face when you found out what it was.
DeannaV sounds like you were right on tract the first time. cuz you see thats what I probably would have done myself.
Darius That is a cute picture such a sweet thing you were(are). I would love to see a pic of you and your DB on the bike. Timer figured out yet?
Vi congrats on getting so much accomplised. The sun ever shows itself again and fries things out I've got toget started.
defoe Sorry you still have the coughs. Sometimes it just hangs on and on and on doesn't it? Hope you feel better soon.
I would love to take a puppy or two off your hands but DH would kill me. He says I have fish so that should satisfy me. I do the "Yeah but," and he says No yeah buts allowed on this one. so............. what can I say?
Well its not raining now any way but so gloomy and WET. I walked out to the mail box and got attcked by a bunch of mosquitos. I haven't seen one all summer. Whats up with that? Darn rain.
Well I've got to motor and get some stuff accomplished. I've rested long enough.
Hope I didn't miss anyone but if I did I'm sooooo sorry. I'll just ~~~~at you and bbl
Cherie
Here I am playing catch-up again. Going back to late Sunday.
Mary - I tend to agree with you about pools although some of my neighbours have them and it DOES get hot and sticky up here. But there are public facilities within close range and I wouldn’t want to devote most of my back yard to a pool that is really only useful 3 months of the year here. You’re a good neighbour helping another to get her planting done. Scary with fires as close as you say.
On to Monday - McCool, I enjoyed the bouquet.
Maria - The bread looks great. That didn’t take long. Glad your son didn’t make it to his meeting on 9/11.
Sarv - we certainly were attached to the TV 5 years ago weren’t we? I was home. Had suffered a severe shoulder injury just 3 days earlier and a friend phoned to say something unusual was going on. Living in a Capital city, I certainly thought about whether we might be vulnerable here too. Hope you found a good dessert. Good for you with your exercises.
Re medical tests - I’m a bit surprised how many of you seem to have routine Colonoscopies. They generally are not done in Canada unless there are specific indications that would require them. Maybe we don’t do as many tests because we have medicare.
Bonnie - I hope your cough goes away soon.
Darius - good improvisation on the bed for your brother. I hope you are able to get to your storage unit while you have company for the trip. Sounds like you were keeping busy with the squash and baking bread. Glad he arrived safely.
Dorothy - They say that virtually everyone is only a couple of steps away from the tragedy of 9/11, but I had no idea you were so close.
Elaine - thanks for the beautiful brug pictures. A great change of pace.
Lauri - great gardens.
Hi Twyla.
suzieq2761 - got a picture of that new hairdo?
Sheila - I agree about good discipline in the schools, but I never did understand why, when my DD#2 was going to school, that they would hand out suspensions for repeated lateness. Seemed to me that was just playing into the hands of kids who really didn’t want to be there anyway. We held DD#2 back a year in Grade 2 (big mistake, but that’s another story). She was a year older than her classmates and when she turned 18, was still in school and considered an adult. That meant that the school would no longer talk to the parents. She was an adult. They would deal with her directly. But in actual fact, they treated her like a little kid. She quit school a bit before Christmas. After Christmas, she DID go back to a nearby school which was semestered. While she was there, I had a call from the Vice Principal who said to me that he was willing to be a test case about talking to parents of “adult” students. He figured if she was under my roof I had a right to know what was going on.
Sounds like you had a productive day with jam making.
McCool - I hope your repair that you weren’t excited about is now done.
Casey - I also like to sew, but my one machine is a 1969 Sears. Might get a serger someday in my retirement. My machine works well, but doesn’t like real heavy stuff. DH made some canvas awnings for the porch earlier and it wouldn’t handle the heavy nylon thread he was told to use. We borrowed my DD’s newer machine and tried it, but it wasn’t much better. Ended up using polyester thread. Keep us posted on how your wine holder project comes along. Too bad it wasn’t all nice wood that would take a stain evenly.
Scooter - great picture. I gather from later comments that it is Darius. But it’s wonderful.
Mary - so sorry about your neighbour’s kitten. She is really having a rough year with her fur babies. Good luck looking after the lame horse.
Deanna - your story of cleaning out the “grass” seed is a hoot. Sounds like you are better off without him.
Well, I’ve managed to while away most of the morning on the computer. Have students this afternoon and evening starting at 4:20. Need to get out and pick up my Mephisto sandals which are being resoled. And maybe stop by the Ottawa symphony Orchestra office to see if music is there to be picked up. We have a viola section rehearsal on Sunday afternoon and it would be nice to have a look at the music first.
I’ve got lots of seeds from my 4 o’clocks. I also gather that they will survive the winter and germinate in the garden which means I’ll have LOTS next year. Also have quite a few from the Balsam. Anyone want some seed?
BBL, I hope.
Ann
Grrrrrrr... my brother has spent ALL morning tinkering with his new toy. It needs to go to the shop (under warranty) because a loose wire rubbed against the back wheel and he has no left tail light or turn signal. He's so vain, he has washed it and is now polishing it because he can't take it to the Harley shop dirty!
Ann, I'd love some seed. I hope to turn the piece of land between the creek and the road into a wildflower garden and not have to mow it.
BBL unless I'm in jail for killing my brother...
Now Darius temper temper. I have 4 brothers, a BIL and a son all with Harleys......
Each one of my DB's told their respective wives that if the house ever caught fire they were on their own. The harleys come first. The one DB at his 1st house the gargae wasn't big enough for two cars and a harley. The harley sat in the living room by the window all winter. DSisIL was good natured about it and turned it into a plant stand for a philly that was beginning to take over and demanding the right to vote. All in all it worked out. Maybe that is why the house was put on the market that very spring. Ya think? My DB polishes his baby every night before he puts it away. Already grumbling about having to put it up in the back of the garage for winter.
Ann you are so good responding to everyone even me
This message was edited Sep 12, 2006 3:16 PM
Darius - D-mail me the correct address and I'll send some seed.
DD#2 and her fiancé have a bike (and a scooter and a car). They both share all three. On our recent trip down to Oregon, we saw a few bikes pulled over. Her comment was "probably a Harley". Seems they are more prone to problems than many of the Japanese bikes. (She worked in a bike shop for awhile a few years back).
Ann
And Maria, why wouldn't I respond to you???? Especially when you put out so many cyber goodies for us all.
Well, have whiled away this rainy day, cleaning out kitchen cabinets. Got 2 tidy, and a ton of stuff tossed. (why do I save cottage cheese containers?) Remember telling my DM that it would take 3 or 4 days to get rid of those temp containers when she passed, and LOL, I am doing it too. Yikes I have turned into my mother!! Have done the sheets on the spare bed, they are in the dryer, and bout ready to go back on the bed.
Sounds like everybody has been busy. After this break, I am doing the stack of paper that is staring at me.
ViAnn, I would love some seeds, I am gonna try the wintersowing this year, see if I can get some decent annuals started.
I was rummaging through the freezer and found a Cornish Game Hen. Anybody have some delicious way to cook it. I usually just bake, but was wanting something kind of different.
Well, I will BBL, after I kill this stack of paper.
This message was edited Sep 12, 2006 3:17 PM
Well, I have killed that paper monster, to the tune of writing checks (for different organizations plus mine) of $3,259.40. Sure am glad that most of that belongs to other bank accounts.
Am going to try to post some pics.
Neat. Are they in containers or right in the ground. Mine got big but not like that.
Don't you just love those? I have a pot full and looks like it is spilled out on the ground. I will post a picture later, don't have the camera back here right now.
It is so cool here today, I am not ready to just go from hot hot hot to cold. :(
I would like a nice in between for about two months or more. LOL
Susan
=^..^=
These are planted directly in the ground. I have a garden gate behind them, they have completely hidden it. I just wanted something to crawl up that gate, not gobble it up!!
Give me a camera, and I can make anything look bad. How in the world does that look so crooked? This will be given to my neighbor as a birthday gift. Just have to get the polyurethane on it.
Since no one gave me ideas about cooking the cornish game hen, it is in the oven, with burgundy, and some onion and garlis. Figure everything is good with that. Will let you know how it comes out.
Okay ... I'm done ... Had a long post and hit the wrong key. Now it's gone! I will add
sorry Cece about your surgery. Please don't overdo.
And sarv ... your family will be in my T&P's today.
Maria and Defoe ... please do take care of yourselves. Y'all still have *terrible * sounding coughs.
Okay, will just ~ to everyone. Next time I'll be more careful where my fingers go!
~Elaine~
Good morning everyone, I can say that because it is still morning here for about another hour. It's been a critter morning.
First, I woke up to yowling cats, went out in bathrobe and slippers with a flashlight and found Neut sitting near the haystack with a mouthfull of black cat hair, most likely from that stray that eats here. Neut acted like he was a bit stressed but appeared to be unhurt, he purred when I picked him up. Just after daylight I saw a coyote in our pasture, way too close to the house (and cats) for my comfort, so since I was already dressed I grabbed my .22 rifle and went out to shoot him. He is sick or crippled and appears to be blind on the right side. Bang, I missed, bang, missed again. Darn, well, maybe at least he will feel unwelcome here. Then, before I had finished my breakfast my neighbor called, he had cows on the highway. So I saddled Breezy to go help him get them back in the pasture. By the time we got there and found them they had gotten themselves in with another neighbor's cattle, so were at least off the road. I rode in there and sorted them out while he functioned as the gate man, and we got his cattle back to his pasture without getting any of the other neighbor's. On the way home I stopped to check on his lame horse who appears to be just about like he was late yesterday afternoon, at least he is no worse.
Sarv, horses are designed to stand up most of the time. Sometimes they will lay down for a nap but it can cause lots of internal problems if they stay down too long. If they are really sick they prefer to stand because they don't think they can get back up. Being a prey animal requires readyness for flight.
Darius, that little kid on the bike was you!! It's sure a cute picture. Thanks to both you and Scooter for sharing it with us. I bet you were surprised to see yourself unexpectedly! I hope your brother realizes that he came to visit and help you. But, after all, you can't get too mad at a guy who brings you shrimp and crab. He sounds like a big kid with a new toy.
DeannaV, Lol at the "grass" seed story. Honey, you are better off without that guy and I hope the newer model doesn't smoke strange stuff. (I'm assuming that there eventually was a replacement, er, uh... an upgrade). I haven't met you before, so welcome to coffee and come back soon, put your feet up, and enjoy the company and the cyber treats. We've been yackity yacking here for a couple of years, some of our members have disappeared for a while and come back just long enough to say "I'm so busy" or something and then disappear again.
A friend of mine had a son who had been in the WTC about a week before the attack. He happened to be talking on the phone to somebody in one of the buildings when the line went dead. It left him quite shaken. I believe in Devine appointments and protection. I'm sure we all know somebody who missed being killed somehow because they had moved to another room or building, or took a wrong turn, etc. One fellow I heard about recently had been sitting in his living room reading and got up to go use the bathroom, and while he was gone he heard a crash, came back to find a car had punched a hole in the wall and smashed the chair where he had been sitting. Another case was a guy I know personally who has a barber shop with 2 chairs and a waiting area by the window facing the street. He was working on a customer in the rear chair, the other one was empty and nobody was waiting, crash, a car came in and smashed all the furniture except the chair where the customer sat. Driver was an elderly man who should not have been driving. He got into his car which was angle parked facing the building and put it in the wrong gear, went forward fast instead of back slowly.
Well now, my tea is gone and the weeds are waiting. Back later. ~~~
Hi all,
We got home abt 9 last night. Big funeral! She was only 63 and had battled a blood disorder for 6 years. Drs said it would turn into leukemia and they were right - since April it was leuk. They gave her 2 months so she really was surprised to make it till Sept. She even made it up here for a visit to her mom in August and I had a very nice visit with her then. Such a sweet gentle woman with a constant smile on her face. Her 6 boys are wonderful young men.
I kept myself awake while driving home by adding up the first cousins. Some interesting stats - to me, at least.
FIL was one of 15.
There were 69 first cousins born to those 15 kids.
6 are now gone, 2 as children in accidents, 2 as young men in accidents and two from cancer in their 60s, in '01 and last week.
Besides her 7 sibs, 18 first cousins were at the funeral.
From Rochester, Mnpls, Hancock and Morris, MN
Gridley, Peoria, Cissna Park, Morton, and Washington, IL
West Bend, Mallard, Larchwood, Lester, Rock Rapids and Inwood, IA
Canton, SD
Bern, Sabetha and Fort Scott, KS
Silverton and Portland, OR
This morning we received very sad news. The cousin from Hancock, MN lost their 15 yr old son this morning. He didn't come up for breakfast before school, so she went down to wake him and found him dead. This just boggles the mind! They had 8 children and this is the 3rd son they have lost. In '81 they lost a 2 yr old while camping out in Montana. He fell in the river and drowned. In '87 they lost a week old baby and now a 15 yr old. He was the baby of the family. I simply cannot wrap my brain around this. How? Why?
Sure makes my problems pale in comparison. I'm not very good company right now so I'll quit and I do sincerely hope you all have a good day. Losses makes a person cherish friends and family and I do cherish you all. Be careful and be sure and tell those that are special to you that you love them. Life is fragile and fleeting.
Geee Wiz, I go out and completely remove a passion fruit vine from the fence and things go nuts here...:-)
cece, I know it is hard but don't over do, don't want to hear you ending up in the hospital again.
sarv, my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours...
dcat, love Anna Belle and the bird feeder....now I know what I will do with the pots I have setting around. I'm still looking for a bowling ball to turn into a penny ball...
darius, I feel for you. My DH will even armorall the hoses and anything plastic under the hood. I swear you can eat off his engines!! But have him find the hamper....
deannav, welcome and I too had a good chuckle over the grass seed...
elaine, Hi there hope all is going well with you. LOL on the fingers, I ma always pushing the wrong buttons and then have to call our DS to come fix it for me...
mary, your day sounds a lot more fun than mine, I hope the horse gets better. Poor guy..
~~~~~~~~'s to all I missed, I must get out and get the 2 huge piles of vines off the lawn before it gets cooked. BBL ....Lauri
Just wanted to say how sorry i am kooger for your cousin and her family. What happened? I will keep them in my prayers, what a shock.
The rest of you have been chatty! i've been racing between laundry and groceries and cupboard cleaning.
Mary- your day does sound exciting!!
Annabelle is beautiful!
deannav-LOL about the grass seed. I felt pretty naive about the crack, but hey I wasn't expecting anything like that with my purchase! (The guy next to me at the auction said "that'll pay for the machine right there" and for half a second I thought about it (as you do at an auction when someone wants part of your lot)) but I'd get busted for dealing then!
I had a post all but finished and it went poof, so I'm starting over, but really late. Went to vote in the primary this morning, we were numbers 3 and 4. But it was early. I love voting here, never long lines, nice people working the tables, easy parking. So unlike central city areas, where they run out of ballots, have long lines, unskilled workers, and a lot of confusion. I keep hearing about voter fraud in this part of the state, but no one has come up with any actual examples of when and where it happened, so it's probably just more noise. One side says it did too happen, offer no proof, but swear they will work hard to end it, the other side says you can't solve a problem that doesn't exist...blah blah blah politics as usual.
Cece, that week didn't go as you had planned, hope you are feeling well but don't overdo, or you will regret it later. You inspired me to go count garden beds but I ran out of fingers and toes. And some just run along the wooded tree line and have miscellaneous plantings in the more open spaces. So, not counting those, or the berms in front, we have 20 or clearly defined beds, but three are as small as, say, a tractor tire, like around house corners or along sidewalks. As far as perennials go, I wouldn't even try to count, after five years we've divided mums, iris, hosta, and daisies several times over. With this year's landscape fabric addition, we're hoping for less weed pulling and maintenance next year.
Mary, I figure those designer pups ought to show up around the 23rd of this month, but I wouldn't venture a guess as to time of day, number or sex. My dad's beagle had 4 I think, DD's golden had 9 in her last litter....and I have no idea what the norm is for JRs. I'm sure Bonnie will keep us posted. And I will be very vigilant in early November for strangers bearing boxes of unknown origin.
Marym those fires sound too close for comfort to me. I hope they stay far away from you, and the smoke blows the other way. Good work on the horse with the sore feet, too bad they can't tell us what's going on, and you have to play detective to figure it out. I'm sure a smaller area will help him to get more food, and improve. What a good neighbor you are. How long will you be "single" while DH is on his mission? Isn't it amazing how much more time you have when there isn't any one but yourself to take care of?
I had no big chores to do today, and we have leftovers for dinner tonight. I need to shorten two pairs of casual pants I picked up at Kohl's for 80% off. Who bought the new Rowenta iron? I love mine, steams like crazy and is slick as anything to use. Had no idea my old one was so bad until I got the new one.
On the bad news side, my mattress pad bed warmer has died an untimely death. I turned it on last week when the outdoor temp was about 55* and I didn't want to crank on the furnace. Nada. No heat. Tested it yesterday to see if it was a fluke, but no luck. Both sides, dead as a doornail. Drat. New ones run about $80, And last spring they had them on sale at LNT and I didn't even consider replacing it. Double drat.
Darius, what a cute picture! Imagine Scooter remembering that she had it! Looking forward to seeing you and bro. when he figures out the timer. Any news from your niece since she moved away from your DS to be with the boyfriend? Bet she's bumped into the real world by now! And, set the table for four, because I'll be arriving with Bonnie for the shrimp.
Bonnie, some drugstores sell their "house brand" of Mucinex, do they use the same binder in those?...I would guess yes, but it would be worth looking into. That's a long time to have a cough hang around. I'm just all stuffy and hacky from whatever is floating around in the air. A couple times a day, I'm seized by a fit of sneezing, which sends the cats into a race for shelter, under the beds, behind the chair, etc. Even thunder doesn't do that!
Dorothy, what a find on a sewing machine! I'll bet it has the old long bobbins instead of the round ones that came later. Hang on to them, they are very hard to find. And they will stitch through almost anything. LOL "No, officer, that stuff was in the drawer when I bought the machine, really it was!"
Deanna, I bet you knew that wasn't grass seed.....but what a good cover story! It's almost believable. LOL
Ann, slow down. I have to go rest after I read your daily accomplishments. I must be a real slug! You are an inspiration to many.....however I have no difficulty resisting the to-do list and am always willing to pick up a book or put my feet up in lieu of being industrious. And today is so gloomy and gray I just had to take a nap so I wouldn't get depressed looking at the weather.
Carat, that's a huge reduction in "students", what will you do to fill the time? Or will they be replaced quickly with new recruits? Shame to have free time and not be able to make good use of it. You could make schematics for all your new flower beds next spring at the new house!!
Kooger, what a tragedy for that family, bad enough to lose one child, how do they bear it? How did you manage to keep track of all those cousins, etc? You must have a phenomenal memory!
Somer....cheesecake chimichanga? We need more details, that sounds like something that would be a big hit here.
Have read everything so I'm up to date on life at DG, so even if I didn't comment to you, you are in my thoughts....~~~~~~ to our lurkers...and where's Ernie and Flowerchild and ....Happy1, and Kidneyguy.... and ......etc.
Oh, Mary, so sorry about the 15 year old. What in the world caused his death? So young. You have had a real western round up kind of day. Now I can tell my friends I know a real cowlady!! Wish I lived closer, so that you could teach me to ride better.
Kooger, sorry about your loss. That is a whole pack of cousins to sort through. DH's family is like that, it took me several years to meet all of them, and every once in awhile now, I will meet a 2nd or 3rd cousin, who has remained unknown to me after 41 years in that family.
dmc, your day kinda of sounds like mine, with the exception of groceries. That is the job for tomorrow. I do have some clean cabinets, but still have others that need the treatment too.
I01, sorry about your clumbsy fingers, I really would have liked to know what you said. How is your weather today?
Darius, since you have been MIA today, I am assuming that your trip to the storage facility is happening.
sommermoon, tell me about the cheesecake chimichonga ? I have eaten the meat ones, so tell me what's in it. Sounds good, I haven't met a cheesecake I didn't like!!
Well, gonna go finish up the supper, the Cornish game hen is done, and smells wonderful, gonna go make some cheesy rice to go with it, and a salad, and that my dear friends is supper.
Will BBL
It is raining cats and dogs here, and the temps have dropped drastically. DH came in and changed from shorts to jeans, so that tells me it is quite a difference, but he got wet, so maybe it was just the wet chill feeling that made him don the jeans.
Lauriewilson, this is a neat craft idea. You can add a larger saucer on top and make into a bird bath. Decorate with stickers, or as DGD did, use some stencils and paint. I have a bowling ball awaiting cooler weather to make a gazing ball. Haven't really decided how I will do it, but I know that it is a winter project.
AnnaBelle, is about 3-4 months old, and just showed up one day. However 2 days later, DH discovered a dead cat and one kitten about 1/2 mile down the road. So we figure AnnaBelle escaped the car, and just wandered in. She is really a loveable little thing.
Hello again, I'm in for lunch and to cool off. I have a big wheelbarrow full of weeds to dump and a mostly clean looking flower bed. Of course I am just getting started, lots more weeds, barn cleanings to haul, stuff to plant.
Defoe, the 15 year old who died suddenly is Kooger's cousin's son. So sad to loose 2 loved ones in a week's time. We expect older, ill, people to die but not young healthy ones.
Kooger, I'm so sorry for your losses. I would emagine that you are just sort of numb at this point. I hope it helps to know that all of us are thinking of and praying for you and your cousin's family. A few weeks ago a 12 year old girl from our town died suddenly of a racing heart that wouldn't slow down. They got her to the local hospital and then by air ambulance to Portland or Boise, but she was DOA. Things like this shock a whole community.
AnnaBelle is a cutie. I love calico cats, had one about 30 years ago, but now we just have 2 who wandered in (yellow tabby female, black and brown tabby male) and AmandaPanda (black and white) who was a rescued Christmas present cat. She has been helping me weed, she jumps out and ambushes me, then disappears and attacks again a few minutes later from a different direction. She also makes a good sleeping garden ornament.
I hear one of the heilicopters that I suppose is going to the fire across the valley. We have another air inversion so it is getting smokey again, I can't smell it yet but can't see as far as I could yesterday. The fire behind the mountains to the east is putting up a lot of smoke today, it looks like it hasn't cooled off much but could be just burning within the old fire area, not advancing. I haven't checked the fire update page today.
Time to get into the garden again.
Kooger, I will call you soon.
I'm only partially MIA... Followed DB down to the next town to a certified Harley Dealer. He dropped $200 on repairs, and maybe $400 more on apparrell and new foot rests that will get installed tomorrow. I did get 2 TV tables out of the trip, not that I wanted them.
Hopefully we can go on Thursday/Friday to my storage unit. He seems willing, but it's a loong trip. When we go out together in my truck, he insists on driving, says I make him nervous.
kooger so sorry.. my nieces 16 yr. old daughter had a stroke life flighted and surgery for her not good.. so strange young teens are having the problems they are.. so sorry for all your faMILY..
