Coffee and .... for Monday, September 4th

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone. I hope it's a lovely day for all.

If the weather cooperates, I hope to at least pick some produce from the garden. Plans for the day also include making more Margarita candles and getting some jewelry repair work done. What are your plans for today? Pull up a chair and let us know what you're thinking.

Here's the link to "yesterday's news". http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/647029/

Defoe~In response to your "what is kettle corn?"....it IS done in a large pot.... BUT........ you can make it yourself! I have a "Whirly Pop" from Wal Mart that makes wonderful kettle corn...comes with various recipes. Before that I just used a regular sauce pan that you could pop corn in. Mine is 7 1/2 inches across the top and 3 1/2 inches tall. I believe this is how I did it.....

Heat 1/3 C oil in sauce pan,
Add 1/3 C popping corn.....stir with wooden spoon until first kernels are about to pop
Add 3 TBLS sugar, stirring until popping begins
Put lid on pan, shake pan back and forth until corn is done popping
Dump into bowl, add salt...it's very good!

Hello to everyone.....I read some of the posts from the past few days. My eyes are quite tired now. I did see some lovely flower pics and cute kitties and an adorable sleeping cat.

I did love my new job until the pettiness kicked in. Why can't people just work together and help each other out???? It's pretty simple...Oh well.....it will either work or not. I still love the guests who come in and most of the people are great to work with. The food IS wonderful, too good :)....I don't like coming home smelling like a burrito every night ..................My register is by the kitchen.

Hope everyone and their families are having or had a great holiday weekend. Also hoping all is well and everyone is doing a good job of recovering and following Dr's and DGnr's advise:). Vacations are mostly over and the days will be getting shorter here....blahhhhh.

Have a great day!!! K~

~~~~~~~~~Good Morning and Great Labor Day to all, last holiday of the season for me to work. Kettle Corn, yummy, we have someone at market who sells it and it is about the only thing I buy anymore!
Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to work I go!!!!
Morning everyone - skunk sprayed around here last night, so I woke to a smelly sunrise. Skies are clear here, but clouds coming in this afternoon and hopefully with some rain - we need it!!
Going over to see the new baby from China, then dashing over to DS to feed the cats again and get some fish from their frig that they asked us to put in the freezer. Got home last night and remembered that we forgot to do that..grrr
scoot - sounds like you had a wonderful ride..got any bugs in your teeth? LOL Gas here is down too- we filled up yesterday for 2.46. Comment about 'fleas' was great!!
Defoe= glad the tootsie is feeling better. Now DH has to get relief from his back pain. Poor guy, been there done that too and it's not fun! Our garden hasn't been as productive as normal either - dry, hot summer here. And I watered my flowers, not the veggie gardens- priorities ya know....
Mc Cool - glad that was your guest and not mine!! Having someone almost destroy your pasties would have sent me into a tailspin. When someone shows up early here, I just say, have a seat and talk to me while I finish up. I have such miserable hair that no one would offer to do it!! Sounds like everything turned out fine tho.
bal-did you sample any of your bottling? Why don't you set a bottle on the table for a holiay treat! We can have a small glass along with Maria's soda bread..yum
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
What a pair of early birds, Sarv and Joyous!! Kettle corn sounds like a treat. I don't think I have any real popcorn, I usually just pick up the microwave kind, no pot to wash or mess to clean up. Used to do it the other way but got lazy!
Sorry about the lingering guest, IO1! Not to be inhospitable but I'm always glad when they leave and I have my house to myself again. I'm used to wandering around on my own haphazard schedule and it puts me off to have to get out of my jammies early, and be sociable when what I really want to do is sit around all rumpled and chat with my coffee buds. And they always seem to stay a day too long. You need a date night! Glad your birthday was fun, keep it going as long as you can!
Maria, I'll have to try the soda bread. Luckily I have all the ingredients handy, unlike most times when at least one requires a run to the store. Be sure to rest, I know it's boring and frustrating, but it takes time. Now if we could only train Samson to run the Dyson, you'd have it made. I've been sorely tempted to vacuum the cats, but you know how that would fly. NOT.
Robert, nice job on the wine bottling. That's a huge job, glad to hear everything worked well. Nice incentive too if I remember correctly. Smooches to the pups, tell them they were good kids for helping you!
Congrats on a successful party Elaine! Good job on the cake. Baking is more like chemistry than art, I'm leery about adjusting recipes that use baking powder or other leavening. I have a friend who uses that European leavener, I think it's a form of ammonia....I have enough trouble making sure mine isn't out of date. I write the expiration on the top of the can so I don't miss it. Cake must have been excellent if it's all gone! Can't argue with results! I don't want anyone helping me in the kitchen....unless they want to clean up. Our furry friends disappear any time a person they don't know comes in the door. They've gotten comfortable with my DS and DD, but anyone else, they do a Houdini and away they go. Sammi and Olivia are too nosy to stay gone for long though.
Bonnie, I'll do a pasty lesson for you once the weather gets cold. I'll take pictures like they did in the old Betty Crocker cookbooks and you'll be an expert in no time at all. Is your foot better today? If it was the shoes, why not both feet? Or do you have one unruly foot that doesn't behave?
Scooter, good job on getting the peaches. Grrrrrrrrr. I called them yesterday morning to make sure they were open, and asked if they still had the Idaho peaches and the kid who answered the phone said they did. So, I stopped at my neighbor's and asked if they wanted some, got a "yes" and off I went. They were out. The guy in the fruit area said they ran out the previous day. Forty miles round trip. Hey, you were on 164, you could have run 1.8 miles down National and stopped in for coffee! Good Carson quote. I hope it comes true. Some people are getting very very rich and it is just so wrong.
Somer, if I came home smelling like burritos, my DH would be all over me. Glad you had time to drop in, working really cuts into your goofing off time doesn't it? Working with a large group and convincing them it's in their best interests to help each other out when needed is a tough sell. One of my worst employees had the "It's not my job" whine down to a science. Another supervisor, years later, overheard that phrase in a supermarket from one of the employees, turned around to see who said it, and guess who it was!! She couldn't wait to call me and tell me about it, and we both had a good laugh. Nothing had changed!
Sarv, rain? What rain? All we've heard for three days is promises from the weather seers. It looks pretty gloomy out there this morning, so maybe, just maybe, we'll get a sprinkle today. Have to go check the weather channel and see for myself. Or go wash my filthy car.
OK I've taken up enough space, who else is up???
Me too, Been up for a while. Got the dogs fed and pottied, took the B-B-Q stuff back out to store in the grill. Busy day yesterday.
Jeremy brought his girl and her 4 kids over for a Labor Day BBQ. Had to do it yesterday, she's working today.
I had some 1 tuna and 2 beef steaks and country ribs out to do and asked if she would just bring some hot dogs for the kids, just in case. Well, she brought hot dogs, 2 pasta dishes, baked beans, potato salad, ice beer and buns.
Lots of activity here, and I certainly am not accustomed to having so many children around but we found plenty to do to entertain them. We fed the fish in the pond, went over and petted the horses, the kids charmed them right away. Then we went for a walk out back on the State Land Preserve. Then it had cooked down enough to turn on the grill.
Jeremy got some logs from the wood piles down the way and he started a fire in the pit. Spring cut some sticks from the saw palmettos and we had roasted marshmallows for dessert. Yep, Darius, the ones I bought last winter for all the pit fires? We finally ate some.
We had a great time, and they left about 10. I sacked out in front of the TV til bedtime. We were all tired, even the doggies.
Today I do a little vacuuming, dusting and goofing off. Yall should do the same, the goofing off I mean.
Yeah, I'm up... and grumpy. It's raining and my "to do" list for the day is mostly outside chores and possibly working on at least one wall on my building in the barn even without Brent. Guess I need a new list if it's gonna rain all day. I generally labor on Labor Day.
Plus, I wet my bed last night... I fell asleep with an open bottle of aquafina water and must have turned over or moved just enough to turn it over. 16 ounce bottle 3/4 full soaked the bed right next to me and every time I turned, it was soggy. I put some toweling over the spill about midnight and that helped. Hope the mattress topper dries out today or I'll have to sleep on the futon in the LR to be comfortable and dry!
I got some partitioned boxes at the ABC store yesterday so I can get all my newly canned stuff packed up and out of the kitchen. I hate it that new canning jars today just come shrink wrapped in a cardboard bottom rather than a whole box. Once I get some shelving designed for canning jars built, it won't be a problem.
Have a Happy Holiday!
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Good Morning every one, have been up since 7 AM when a bark from the garage woke me up, rascal that he is, lol there is sunshine out there and lovely cool weather, only 55', the slider is open so his majesty can run in an out at his pleasure,
About the soda bread, the Irish lady said to my daughter, now don't ya forget, lass, to make a cross on the bread before it hits the oven just wet the side of your hand a bit and press down hard, it will see the outline of it when ya bread is baked
This is true but sometimes I forget to do it, lol.. I also want to add, the large the dish you use the less time it will take to bake , so be careful not to over bake it.
As I was looking through me recipes, I have made all kinds of breads, Swedish Limpa bread was one of my families favorite, have not made it in a very long time. Most of my bread recipes are from the original Betty crocker cook book (totally in tatters now) later, in the early 70's I bought 'James Beard on Bread 'and also his cuisinart book that has a few very good recipes for one loaf breads'
I can see where todays young women do not have time to bake bread if the must work out of their homes it is almost an all day occupation. My favorite places were always the kitchen and the garden, the bassinet ot the play pen went to where I happened to be. They were the happiest times .
Did not mean to rattle on like that instead of commenting on your remarks but read them all , right now I just wish I would feel healthier, am tired of all this boredom., seems I am not getting better.
Have a wonderful holiday and thank for your cares for me.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/530015/ from a thread started by a new member last year. If you need a good laugh, just go in and start reading, I've never had so much fun from one picture!! Made me laugh all over again.
And it's raining, I take back all the bad things I said about the weather prognostigators, they were right ....once. Hope none of our MW gardeners were planning outdoor grilling today!
Morning, now that I am semi human will tell how I was woke up......
Very early this a.m. around 2:30ish a wet nose poked me on the cheek...NO go to sleep....I roll over...wet nose follows...pull covers over my head...wet nose lays on top of me... wet nose jumps on Dad....go get Mom...wet nose lands on top of me again...No go to sleep!!!...wet nose grabs covers pulls them off my head gives me a kiss and dives under covers procceds to flop around untill it is upside down and I now have a back foot in my ear...remove foot and tell wet nose to give Dad kisses...wet nose leaves....YES can go back to sleep....NO wet nose brings back it's stuffed squeeky squirrel and is killing it on/in the bed...so I gave up and got up at 2:54 this morning.
Anybody need a 24lb. cockapoo named....well we call her Gladys?
Kettle Corn...don't care for it..I'm weird popcorn should be salty....fruit is sweet no salt...
Molly sounds like you had a great BBQ and fun time..I'm all for the goofing off!!
Ann you are my hero!! I cannot remember my name half the time yet you respond to everything...Hope you are feeling better and the weather is good there.
M5, yep wash the car and it will pour rain..I had a cat that loved to be vacuumed, every time it came out he would plop down for a good cleaning.
Robert sounds like you had a good day bottling wine....A friend of ours does that down in Napa every year...
Elaine, cake from scratch...WOW last time I tried that it was a major flop! Glad your party was a sucess and you have your house back.
Bonnie I know the feeling of protesting feet except I had to put mine into work boots and stand for 10 hours....they were very mad at me, I need to move somewhere I can go barefoot all year round
Maria, I hope you are starting to feel better and Samson is being good. I am going to try your bread recipe as it sounds wonderful...
Oops CRS has set in so ~~~~~ at everyone I have missed and hope you all have a great Hoilday.....Lauri
P.S. here is the wet nose on my dirty porch!!!
She is adorable, but unfortunately I have rescued my limit this year.
My "Baby" wakes me up with toenails clacking on the linoleum on the kitchen floor. Snowy whines at the plywood in the doorway and Lexie bangs her chest against the plywood. Untimately I get woke up. With the days getting shorter, it's nearly dark at 7 in the morning. I don't keep a clock in the bedroom so I think it's the middle of the night.
Are we watching the "Closer" marathon? I have it on the tube and will listen even though I think I saw all episodes.
Yes, it would be nice to have more than 13 episodes of this program, but look what has happened. Over the years, regular broadcast channels have pushed the envelope on season premiers sometimes into November, when they used to be right after Labor Day.
Cable channels are now doing their own program shows and it's keeping us from watching the Big "3". Anyway, season premiers on the big 3 are this week. They are back to normal. They needed a punch of competition to put them back in order.
Good morning all, I am up for the third time today. Woke up coughing at 2:00, got up and took some cough syrup, and went back to bed. Then again at 4:00, I took cough syrup and stayed up about an hour, to make sure that things were calming down, back to bed, where I slept until 10:00. I am still in jammies, and it's after 11:00. Was planning on making some more spaghetti sauce today, but feel so rotten, that instead I will tackle some bills and bank statements. If that doesn't put me to sleep, nothing will. Maria, sure had hoped that you were almost well by this time. Sorry to hear that you are not.
Well, gonna get going, slowly I am sure, don't have enough brain power to respond, so forgive me for just ~~~ right now.
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Yup, can't really sit and watch it right now but I DVR'd the whole day, so when I do watch them, I can save 12 minutes for every hour, by zipping through the commercials. Head On Apply it To The Forehead!! ad nauseum. Man o Man do I love that DVR!! Got me through all the lousy reruns on the Big 3 this summer. Another good series, which is probably coming to an end, is "Saved". Interesting characters and a good continuing story line.
Glad it was the water bottle Darius, you had me worried for a minute!! Got a hair dryer?? Don't think the mattress will fit in the microwave..............
Just bought something on Ebay and thought I'd slip over here and check in. Maria, I am making that soda bread right now. Will try to remember the X.
Wow, lower 50s this am! Fall is here.
m5- that picture/dog thread is a hoot! And she cut off the dog - that was hilarious, had me laughing out loud.
I figured something was up with the wet bed, doubted she would actually post abt 'personally' wetting it. lol
The soda bread sounds good. I'm going to bake something today, didn't get that far yesterday. Decided to box up 3 bunches of LOTV for 3 peeps that were asking for some. They're ready to go.
News flash: Steve Irwin "Crocodile Hunter" was killed by a sting ray. He was filming a documentary and got too close. News said they don't tend to be fatal stings but the stinger happened to go right between his ribs and made a hole in his heart. I enjoyed watching his show, he was a character, that's for sure. Sad for his family, his kids are 8 and 2¾.
Ok, gotta get some addresses and then do something constructive. :)
Well, I finished my chores. At least the vacuuming and dusting. Washed the bathroom fluffy rugs that the dogs really adore laying on and now all I have left to do is clean the hepa filters and mop the vinyl floors.
Watching the Closer and glad to see Miss Brenda Lee is back on sugar. :^))))
Don't have to sprinkle today except in the orchid house. It rained yesterday so that's that. Speaking of orchid house, here's my first orchid blooming since we built it.
Lunch time!! I'm having left over cheese ball and crackers. How can it be that I just went to the grocery store and everything is eaten up already....
Molly -Jeremy's girlfriend has 4 kids!! Wow - that's a handful!! We're they well behaved? A plus that she showed up with a boat load of food tho!! Is she a keeper?? (am I being nosey or what LOL) Bet the kids had fun over the campfire - nothing better than roasted marshmallows...
Maria- maybe you need to go back and visit the doc. You're feeling punk way too long. Although I remember when I had pneumonia, I felt exhausted for about 2 months and that was years ago. That stuff really does sap your strength. Loved 'your majesty' comment - isn't that the truth!! I try not make bread as I am the only one to eat it and it goes immediately to my hips.
LOL Darius - I thought you were really losing it - wetting the bed!! Thought we all should send you some depends...Sorry about the rain..that does put a klinker in your plans. Here it is absolutely gorgeous - sunny and in the low 70's - perfect weather for working out of doors. And the weatherman forecasted rain/clouds all weekend...liar liar pants on fire. For once I am glad they were wrong.
defoe - curl up and pamper yourself today = you've been burning the candle at both ends. We can't have you getting pneumonia too!!
I have never even heard of "Closer'- what am I missing? What's the story line?
Lauri - I'll pass on the wet nose during the night!! I have a cat who climbs in bed and taps me with one paw- that means - my head needs scratching. Thank goodness she doesn't do that often!!
Garden - welcome- flopping back and reading a book sounds like a good plan for me too!! But that will have to come after I paint the trim around the windows on the barn. Which reminds me, I better get off here and get my hinney in gear.
Stopped to see the little one adopted from China- what a doll. We brought tons of gifts and what did she want to play with - the boxes- she's Americanized already!!
Off to get on the grubs and do a little LABOR..
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
I love "The Closer" although I often miss it as it is on late here.
Haven't done Jack **** today so far but that's okay. Talked to my sis and she's going to order the paraphernalia to make wine out of our grapes. Hope the stuff gets here soon, before the grapes rot on the vines.
She's looking into changing realtors to a Hispanic one (depending on her contract) since her neighborhood has become largely Hispanic in the last 5 years.
A new tropical deperssion is on the horizon. Yuck.
I still want to adopt a puppy, just not ready yet, and by winter I won't want to be house breaking one.
Sorrow... just learned our member Frankay has died. I have no details, got the info from defoecat. He (and I only assume HE) and I exchanged thoughts many times over the last 4-5 years. The mods of the Memory Garden Forum are trying to find details and start a thread.
I hope when I die, there will be a space in the Memory Garden for me, too. DG will go with me to the grave (unless it takes a drastic turn).
Hello again everyone. I'm just checking in quickly to say that I am back home from my weekend rides, we got completions both days and I'm a bit tired, need to get out and water things, and will be back later. Needless to say I have reading from Friday to do before I will know what you have all been up to since then.
I am so sorry to hear about Frankey, he was lots of fun to post with us, he invited me to visit them in Maine a few times, he was a great guy
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Labor Day is almost over and man did we work hard...DH took the fuel tank off his old 85 diesel truck. It was leaking and he still likes to drive it as a winter beater. I painted all the barn trim and started on the house, but ran into some rotting wood on the garage, so had to stop until DH could decide what to do. We were both so tuckered out that we decided to get KFC for dinner! It was good and I didn't pig out, so I feel good...
Tomorrow morning all the retired gals are meeting for coffee and laughs. We've done this the day school starts for several years all saying 'we're glad we're not working anymore!' Couple of hours of fun with friends.
Tomorrow afternoon DM/DSF are bringing out stuffed peppers plus dessert....yahoo!! Life is good!!
Mary, glad you made it thru the weekend in one piece and have completions (I assume that means you finished!!)
M5- no rain here -it was gorgeous....but now I need to drag out the hoses - things are dry again. Said by the end of the week, we'd be back up in the 80's. (school starts and it warms up-never fails!)
I never had the pleasure of conversing with Frankey - sounds like he was a wonderful man. Darius, what do you mean that DG will go with you to the grave? Making wine now - good luck. We did it once and had a huge mess- big glass containers blowing up. Obviously we did something wrong!! That was in our younger years and we did tons of stupid things!!
Well, off to play some scrabble!!
Defoe- ten check books!! That is a load!! I only have 2. Since I seldom write many checks, they are a breeze to do. But I remember one year I didn't balance one of them for a whole year. Can you imagine!! My mom finally came out and we sat down and did it - I was just overwhelmed!! Back then I wrote tons of checks and somehow got behind. She worked years as a bank teller, so she gave me lots of help. I'll never do that again!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Sarv, recently you asked me if I don't ever just loaf... Well, I did that all day today, even snuck in a couple of naps! I'd go to bed now but the season finale of Closer is on at 9 pm, if I can stay awake.
About the grave thing... I meant I will stay on DG until I go to my grave.
Mary, Good for You!!
Goodnight, Gracie.
Hi Folks,
We were out early this morning to babysit Dgtwins while their parent went to a funeral and reception. We took them out for lunch and didn’t get home till nearly 3. Came home and started baking bread. Still catching up -
Saturday, September 2nd and Sunday, September 3rd
Belated Happy Birthday to Pati. Hope you keep celebrating.
Bonnie - glad DH’s ear is doing well. Glad to hear your fish fry went well in spite of the power failure.
Sarv - I’m impressed that you’ve been able to figure out how to program numbers into your cell phone. Mine might get used a bit more it I had something programmed into it.
Sheila - wonderful indeed to have my own bed. Japanese beds are VERY firm. I sank into the pillow top of my own (firm mattress) and thought I was in heaven.
Japan didn’t seen as expensive to me as when I visited 18 years ago. The relationship to the Canadian $ was roughly the same at both times, 1 Yen = 1 penny. I DID find that Sushi, which used to be an inexpensive meal was priced more like in many Canadian restaurants. Since we were going to the conference and not doing a lot of other travel, we didn’t have too many other expenses. The hotel, not cheap, but not outrageous either, included a large breakfast buffet both Western and Japanese style or we could choose from both. The conference included an opening party and a closing one at which large amounts of food were available (and left over. Hope it didn’t just go in the garbage.) The first and last evenings, we were taken out to dinner and on Wednesday, the whole conference went to the Sapporo Beer Hall for a “JingasKan” dinner. That is thin slices of lamb cooked with veggies on a propane burner. Rather smoky, oily atmosphere and they gave us T-shirts to wear at this occasion. 18 years ago we did the same thing, but it was outdoors under tents. They now have a large indoor facility. As far as shopping, there are now wonderful 100 Yen shops which have a wider variety of goods than most of our $ stores. We did quite a bit of shopping there. LOL Other items seemed reasonably priced except for clothing which all seemed quite expensive, not that any of it would have fit me anyway. Oh yes, we did see a 23L shop as we were riding the escalator in one store, but the clerk showed us a size chart which indicated those sizes started above North American 18. But most stuff was really small.
What kind of cars does your DH collect? Just ordinary ones? Want us to send you some flags?
Darius - so glad the batch of bread turned out. I have 4 loaves that just went into the oven. Hope they turn out as well as yours did. What kind of bread is yours? Glad you were able to get most of the blackberry mess cleaned up and hope the rest bleaches well.
Bonnie, they showed us the tea ceremony, but I don’t really know the history. There is a lot of tradition with it.
Balvenie (Robert?) Tell me the background on bottling all that wine. I think I missed something.
Bonnie - sounds like a good harvest from your garden. Hope you weren’t TOO busy with it today. I hope DH gets some relief for his back pain soon.
Now for today’s thread - McCool, labour Day is supposed to be a holiday. But I hope you got what you wanted to do accomplished.
Somer - may have to try “Kettle corn”. Sounds good.
Hi Joy - sorry you had to work, but glad it’s the last holiday to work this season.
Darius - sorry about the water spill in the bed. Hope you got it dried out. Did you every get your tooth fixed?
Maria - must try your soda bread. You sound as though you are feeling better.
My bread recipe is based on my MIL’s bread recipe except hers was white bread and over the years mine has evolved to be a multi-grain, high fibre bread. Canadian flour has a higher gluten count than most American flour and generally makes better bread if you use all-purpose flour. Even better is Robin Hood “Best for Bread” flour.
Lauri - I also suffer from CRS, but I open more than one window. Or even better yet, just WordPerfect and hop back and forth as I read the threads. Then make wise cracks.
Hi Lisa - do you normally lurk? I’m not sure I remember you but am glad you stopped by.
Bonnie - take care of yourself. Planes are a great place to pick up all sorts of viruses. I’m just waiting for mine to begin. There were several people at the conference in Sapporo who had colds they developed on the long flights. Our only saving grace may be that we used enough points to go business class which means that we were not in as close proximity to as many people as we would have been otherwise. I never sleep on planes, but having more space is very nice on the long flights.
Molly - what a lovely orchid.
Darius - at the rate you do things, a day off is probably a good idea. I could never keep up your pace.
Hi Mary - glad you are home and look forward to hearing about your weekend.
~~~~ to everyone else. I’m more or less caught up now. Have to edit the pics and look up some information and I’ll get a thread up about our trip.

Here is a pic of the bread which just came out of the oven.

Ann, my bread was partially stone ground WW and part King Arthur bread flour. I usually make all WW but this batch was primarily for my neighbor and I don't know their preferences yet. Yours looks GREAT!

I watched re-runs of The Closer all evening, mostly by accident. The TV in the LR was on that channel... and then the season finale. I thought I'd be asleep before now, LOL.

Saying Goodnight Gracie again!

Good evening everyone,

V-ann, your bread looks great! I haven't baked bread for years now. Guess I should give it a go again someday, but it sure takes an awful lot of time. I really didn't get much accomplished today ---- decided I was really tired and goofed off for the most part. I did get stuff picked in the garden and cooked the previous batch of green beans so that I wouldn't end up throwing them in the compost heap.

Sorry to hear about Frankay. I remember coming across a few of his posts in the past --- probably in the pet forum. With my DH's 60th birthday, there's been an undercurrent of foreboding. Neither of us is particularly thrilled at getting this old, but of course, you have to consider the alternative! One of my mother's friends was discovered dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs a few days ago. They determined that the cause of death was trauma to the head, so it appears that she fell while on the way to do her laundry.

Bonnie, please take care of yourself. That cough didn't sound too good. I hope you get a much better night's sleep tonight. How you could manage 50 guests while sick is way beyond me. 8 threw me into a tizzy.

Joyous, good to see you here for a change. How has your sales season been this year? My store has been better this year after two years of steady declines. It's a good thing or we'd really be up the proverbial creek with DH out of commission!

Maria, please just try to take it relatively easy for awhile yet. You have to give yourself time to recover fully. Glad to see you posting again, though.

Mary, glad that your team acquitted themselves in fine fashion this past weekend. Is this the end of the season or do you still have more rides scheduled?

As usual, I meant to comment on much more, but am now coming up blank. Hope you don't mind if I just wave. ~~~~~~~~~~~ to Sheila, kooger, lauri, darius, sarv, Twyla, 9kitty, Molly (beautiful orchid!), Somermoone, and lisa.

Goodnight, sweet dreams.

Okay everbody,

I know that it's a little early, but here's the link for tomorrow's thread. See you there.

Me again. I've been watching a big cloud of smoke coming from or behind the mountains to the east of us. It's possibly the same fire that make part of my ride so smokey yesterday. There are so many fires now that it is hard to tell about origins with the winds moving the smoke long distances. The sunrise will be pretty tomorrow. Tonight's sunset was pretty, we have fires to the west too. No smoke in the air here today so that was nice.

More about my rides, I took both horses. Saturday I rode Breezy and we did the 50 miles in something over 9 hours, he had fun all day and passed the final vet check at the end. That means we got a completion, or, credit for the ride. If they don't pass the final check then we get nothing. (I did that once this year with a borrowed horse). Patch got the job yesterday and we rode a few of the same trails and a lot of different ones, covered the course in about the same amount of time as the day before. All this is compiled for year end awards and goes into the official record book, plus there are completion awards for each day's event. I was pleased to have two healthy horses again! Patch is still very excitable at a ride, so I started out late on purpose and rode the first 25-30 miles alone. We passed a few riders and by the time we passed 2 horses that had become a bit tired he was ok traveling with them as long as he could be in the lead. They were happy to follow so that worked out well. Later he tolerated a horse traveling ahead of him without any problem. My knee (old problem) got very painful on the second day, especially on the downhills, but I survived and after I quit riding and walked around for a while it felt better.

This post was started about 2 hours ago, so I'm just going to post it and see you tomorrow. I hope all of you sleep well.

Well, I am back after reading all the forums I usually keep track of. Had country ham for supper, corn, a potato dish, with onions and garlic, a big red tomato, was good. Hope I am feeling well enough that I can can some more spaghetti sauce tomorrow. All I did today was the check books and the bill paying, but that was way enough. Not even gonna try to comment on anything going on today, but know that I have read everything, and live vicariously through your events. I have missed I01, and Maria today, hope that they are doing well, I know that I01 has company and that has kept her from posting, and Maria is sick, but please check in and let us know how you are feeling. I worry about folks who live alone, and wonder when we don't hear from them if everything in okay. Maria, I know you have a Dr appointment tomorrow, and hope that you feel well enough to let us know what he/she says.

Well, I am going to try to go to bed earlier than normal tonight, and hope that I have a good cough free night. That waking up coughing is horrible, and I hope that by taking prescibed meds before retiring I will have a cough free night.

Everybody hope you have a good restful night, and will check in first thing in the morning.

Night Gracie.

Night all, see you in the morning...
Sheila
