Just thought you'd like to see a photo of Tamiania (sp) blooming. Think you sent that one to me around Mother's Day, it was in bloom and had lots of bud at that time so I was so happy when I noticed all the buds this month!
Allison! Look what's in bloom!
Congrats, April. Looking Good!!! Love that Glitterstar.

Hi April,
Congratulations! They are one of my favorite and they are prolific bloomsers.
TFS!
Joanne
Oh and I didn't photo it but also Little Match Girl has a blossom, not open yet, but I will post when it's open.
Hi April,
Tamiania I love Great job! Congratulations! WOW Super WOW It was meant to be yours !
Good to see you
Beautiful April! Tamiania is a cutie.
I love Tamiania! You cannot imagine how excited I was when I saw the buds!
Also in bloom right now, will post pictures later, are Three Cheers and Little Match Girl! Litlle Match Girl has actually not opened yet but will anyday now. Will post photos when she does.
I love how the blooms on plants like Tamiania open first you have one ! And it does not look like more will open then more come out of the same flower stem ! I love when my Chirita S. Hisako ( SP) blooms like this too. And one stem gave me 20 large flowers the stem was so heavy I cut it off and put it into a vase and they lasted a long time ! Their so cool.
Oh yes- the 1st bloom that opened when you sent it to me was such a wonderful surprise! I'd never seen anything quite like that and so pretty and dainty.
April was looking back down memory lane here and wow just sense begin Sept. all your plants now have a lot of flowers !
Yes! I think it's result of learning a few things, including not to over fertilize! Just saw a few buds on my Maverick's Faded Jeans. Oh and Allison you wouldn't believe all the babies that I have! You sent me quite a few leaves for the 1st bingo and bingo! nearly all of them have babies almost ready to pot in their own little pots! I am so excited.
WOW I'm so excited for you ! Post pictures of them when you get a chance. I enjoy seeing babies from Bingo, trade and leaves shared. And fun seeing the plants blooming too ! Most plants I grew by leaf so never saw them bloom so when they bloom for you all Peeps and you post them is my first time seeing the exciting beautiful blooms too !
Allison I put down a leaf from the Storytellas that you sent and some of those have already sent up little leaves! The slowest to produce babies seem to be the russian leaves I bought from Bluebird- fastest maybe Buckeye Calico. Also you sent me Milkyway Trail and it's already produced a baby that is in it's own pot! I need to pot Tigers Trail baby.
Will post photos when I can. Thank you again for all the leaves and plants you have sent to me and for your constant encouragement!
April
WOW April babies already super ! I had a hard time with Little Match Girl. One leaf gave me I think 2 babies but only one made it well and you have grown her so beautiful. Tiny Tim grew many babies, Heidi and Rip Van Winkle did good Littlist Angel only gave me about 4 babies.Did the other Storytellas do well for you ?
Russian leaves were slow but well worth it. I have one Russian plant left . All others given away. I was able to grow a lot of plants about 11 different ones. Not sure who's box will get this last one. Jan got a Russian while she was here. Did your Russian Snow Leopard Bloom ?
I sold my large plant for $25.00 she was about 22-24 inches across full of new buds and still a baby ! I gave so many away I often wonder how their doing . I enjoy seeing Peeps post pictures !
I am so Happy you are getting a lot of babies ! You could sell some !
Allison I have been amazed at how suddenly all of my leaves, well nearly all, have produced leaves and babies! I don't recall if I put leaves down for all the storytellas- I did put one down for Rip Van Winkle and I think that's the one that is close to being ready to put in a pot on it's own. Heidi I put down and just noticed a couple of tiny leaves. Milky Way Trail has a bud on it already. Just noticed that my Russian leaf 'Playful Wolves' - I got that from Bluebird- has 2 tiny little leaves starting. I thought I'd told you that along the way Snow Leopard didn't make it. It was probably overwhelmed w/ my over fertilizing! I don't know what I thought I was doing, but now that I have stopped everybody's much happier. Will post some pictures when they get a little bigger or some of the blooms open more.
May try to sell some as I seem to suddenly have many more than I can use! I have given some to my daughter and she is doing pretty well w/ them. She likes them but is afraid she will be overwhelmed w/ more than a few. I can't give any to my mom because her cats knock over all her plants- maybe an episcia in a covered dish would work for her!
Hope you are doing well- I have been missing you.
April babies are great you'll be having a lot of pretty blooming plants this Winter. Oh I keep forgetting we live in Sunny warm lands !
It's realy something less care , less food, less watering ( not dry out like catus) more light gives more babies and more flowers nicer plants !
When I ran out of food I had so many flowers. lol I know a bunch of here on DG had the same experience !
Hey all! Just looked at this thread. Question: Is Tamiania. One of the original species found in the mountain. You know like Tonguwensis (sp)? It is just beautiful. The tall spacey bloom stocks remind me of Tonguwensis.
Actually the blooms look more like strep blooms but the leaves look like avs. What is it? I'm a dummy

Hi Nanna
Tamiania is a Chirita, I think it's leaves look like Av's a little it's a smaller minature leaf growing Chirita. I adore Chiritas their blooms are like Streps ! April is doing a great job growing this one ! I think they bloom all the time. They progate easy from a leaf just like Av's. Keyring has grown a lot by seed. I read they do not progate true ( Chiritas) by seed but not sure if this is true ?
Chiritas are so easy and fun to grow I still have a few that sit in a natural light as happy as can be !
Thanks. The bloom and leaf confused me a little. But that's nothing new. I get confused a lot. Sure is pretty~!
I agree Nanna, the leaf is not like the chiritas that I have become familliar w/ and the flower does resemble a strepp. So far this chirita has been very easy to grow, I have only had minor success w/ propagating- best success so far was putting the leaf down as I do w/ AVs then putting the cup in a plastic bag and ignoring it. Finally rooted but so far no little babies- but I am hopeful!
Hang in there. I have a terrible time with strep leaves. Just started with chirita. Good Luck!
Thanks, so far the one strep that I have rooted I did the same way, in a plastic bag. I keep checking them and once they are well rooted I wean them off the plastic bag.
Let us know how things go. Keyring does wonderful things with propagation. I remember pictures of her strep babies.
Will do- and yes Key is amazing!
April I tried many of it's leaves and I had no luck hope you can. It's a great plant.

Chirita tamiana
It's foliage is small as it is a true miniature !
This is a relatively recent collection from Vietnam, and is a true miniature that will bloom in six months from seed. It was originally distributed as C. eberhardtii, but is correctly known as C . tamiana.

Keyring has grown a lot of these ! She knows Gesneraids so much knowledge remarkable !
Thanks Allison- great pics and now, w/ your help, my "wish list" has just grown longer! LOL. I cannot tell you how much I love my C tamiana! Thank you again for sending her to me. I was so worried when I got her, since I'd managed to kill off so many AVs, but she has done beautifully. I have her wicked- or as my grandson says, "wicked" and I think that is a real plus!
oops, I just saw this thread. Tamiana is indeed a species. Because it's a species, you can propagate it from seed, unless you happen to have a sport or something, in which case you should (1) register a cultivar and (2) propagate from vegetative material. ;-)
I've been told it can be propagated from leaf or from tip cuttings, but I've never tried it because I found that the seeds are impossibly incredibly fertile. I got some 800 seedlings out of a pod I sowed, and every single little sprout matured. It bloomed in a few months too.
It's also very drought tolerant and will live in a dark corner with no water for 2-3 months. Of course, it will look ratty and not flower, but it'll be alive. In fact, let me pull it out, take a pic, and maybe water it.... This has gone without water for about 3 months.
and to prove that it's been parched, here's a shot of the lower part of a stem... I'll have to repot this deeper.
and these are the same ones that were blooming quite some time ago in my office. http://flickr.com/photos/ki/3930782/
Wow! Very resiliant for such a tiny, delicate looking plant!
I honestly don't understand why it hasn't taken over the world....
LOL. Sounds like it should.
sorry I should have said it is not an African violet species like Nanna asked about.
I did say it was a Chirita guessnot an AV I should have said Chirita species. Guess I just was answering the part for her that it is not an AV ! Sorry for the mix -up Keyring :))
Oh April, that's just gorgeous! I'm so very sad to say, the Chirita tamiana leaves you sent me didn't make it. I don't know what I did wrong. I wanted to cry! Chiritas are quickly becoming my favorites.
Glitterstar, Howard, and The King are putting up babies, though! :o)
