US Map of states....

Crossville, TN

What happened to the US map of states in the "member list"? Is it just my computer...or was it replaced by the list of states according to the number of members?

I really miss the map...it was so easy to click on the state you were looking for!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

It's not just your computer, Jo.........it's like that on mine too.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes and Manitoba is listed under US States (1 Member) and Canadian Province (150 Members)?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It only fair.. The Canadians routinely smuggle states onto their list. Last time it was Alabama.

My map is gone too.
Hey Dave I need that map :)) I use it often to check on where all the stated are in US when I chat and post. There is NO other way I can remember where they are in the US of A.

I miss the map too! Janett_D, I'm right here in the states but it helped me the same way to see how close somebody was to me.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I wonder why our map went away?

Crossville, TN

HMMMM....still no answer! Yooho....LOL Jo

There is one more thing missing and have been for a few days atleast.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I've never seen the U.S. Map nor have I seen a Firefox download button......I didn't know what I was missing. LOL

(Zone 5b)

I wonder if it was just changed. I have a button that goes to download Firefox with the Google Toolbar.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I wish the U.S. map was back. The "Browse by U.S. State" list isn't much help because it's sorted by number of members rather than alphabetical. In addition, it has Washington, DC and U.S. territories listed there too. Maybe that list needs to have its title changed? Also, why is the Canadian province of Manitoba listed there?

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Please see above on this thread ...... someone said we were getting even w/the canadians or some such.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I can't answer the map question - that's one for Dave.

However, I can at least try to address the erroneous information complaint ;o)

When people enter the wrong country (or misspell their city, or choose the wrong state) on their profile, there isn't much we can do about it. We don't "police" people's profiles and editing someone else's profile is extremely time-consuming for us, and probably a little presumptuous for us to decide we know what they meant to enter.

As a fellow member, the best/easiest/friendliest course of action is for you to drop the member a note, welcome them to DG and politely let them know their profile has an error.

Crossville, TN

Works for me! Thanks, Terry....Jo

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Me too! I didn't realize these listings were so directly tied to member input. I certainly understand your dilemma. While we can drop the Manitoba member a note, and I'm happy to do so, is there any way to give us the ability to SORT the "Browse by" sections? It would be very helpful in some of the sections.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Anytime you contact a member and help them sort out their location, that's a great help to everyone.

For one thing, those corrections make the site appear more accurate (especially to those who assume the errors mean WE need a Geography lesson ;o)

And it's a really nice touch when another member reaches out and makes a new(er) member feel welcome. Stranger topic-starters have launched friendships!

If you click on a state (for example), you can then sort it by clicking on the "locale" column.

When you do this, you may find DG members in your own community or nearby, who haven't added their ZIP code - that's another good way to break the ice and "meet" some other folks in your area.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I sent a low-key, funny message to the guy in Manitoba. Hopefully he'll change his country designation. I certainly don't want anyone to think DG doesn't have its act together!!! LOL

I like the sorting by "locale"; however, it's difficult for me to find DG members nearby this way since there are 695 pages of members in California, plus I live in a metropolitan area with lots of cities within 30 miles of me. If there were a "go to page" popup or a way to search by city AND state I could get to my area quicker. As it is, I can only move through the listing 5 pages at a time, which I won't do. I know it's a lot easier for most of the rest of the country and world, and so is a great tool for them. I click on "Extras" and then click on "Find other DG subscribers in your area." That works well for me, even if I'm missing some members because they didn't input their zip code.

Is it my imagination, or is it nicer than before? Like 3d or something. Maybe it's because I cleaned my glasses.

Nope - it's the same as we've used for many years! In fact, I had to dig into an extremely old backup copy to find it! :)

Crossville, TN

I like having the map AND the list by states....Thanks. Jo

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks, Dave!

Oh, and guess what - the member who was listed as being from Manitoba, United States DID change his address to Canada! YAY!
