and it died. The other 2 cuttings I got at the same time are doing good. But darn it :o( I lost the double peach. I don't know what it is I do so wrong or are some brugs pickier than others?
Maybe the ones I want really bad know it and they die. Atleast it seems like it.
I am hear so I can get a few poor babies. It will make me feel a little better.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
:o( I was given a double peach cutting and
Some just don't do as well as others. You might have one that does well in your area and it might be a nightmare for me. Just never know until you try.
Culebra is one that I can't get to do anything. About ready to toss it. I say that every year. LOL
If it makes you feel any better Sandy, I tossed 2 huge trees of double peach in spring here for they never bloomed for me. I thought how rarely I have seen people show pictures on here of it in bloom so I am thinking it might not be a great bloomer. But who knows.
I understand Culebra is a slow starter Jim but boy the pics I have seen of it in flower would make it worth it. A good friend sent me a nice one and though it hasn't bloomed yet, it is one I am so looking forward to when it does. I wonder if anyone has been able to cross it.
Kin sent me some double white that I am so thankful for. I wa so excited about having a color that was a double. It was with maya and another one. Treated the same but it rotted. BOO HOO!!
Is it normal to lose more cuttings than the ones that live?
I don't understand. Maybe it is because I want them to live so bad. I hope I can get some in the fall.
That one you mentioned is beautiful. I love the whiskers.
Gosh there is so many I want. A double color first. Oh well she is dead now. Nothing I can do for her.
Thanks, Kell
Sandy ^8^
I lose some too Sandy so you are not alone. And usually the ones that are most wanted by my friends. LOL. I am going to try a rooting hormone Kyle just recommended on the Tropical forum. Dip 'n Grow. He said it was great stuff. I also am using the orchid moss. Barb sent me a box of it and I do like it.
The time of year also affects the success you achieve as well as the cultivar's own traits. The more into fall we get, the less they will want to root. The plants are slowing down. So best to try as early as possible. I used to be able to root anything, but I get rot now too. I often think I must have a bacteria or a fungus hanging around now that gets them which I didn't before. When I bag them, I seem to do better.
Here is a batch of Double Pink cuttings I did in the orchid moss only, no rooting hormone. I have lost 3, and got 3 going. Sadly, I have about 15 people wanting them. I should get them out fast before I kill them all. LOL. The lower parts did the best, as usual.
I am going to do another batch and try the rooting hormone that Kyle recommended. I should put them on a heating mat too.
Kell, have you juststarted to use the orchid moss?...I have an orchid with that moss and I really like it for retaining moisture...now you and I must be the queens of trying out new stuff because the minute you said dip and grow, Ive got to go find it..lolol..Judy
I used it when I got it Judy and liked it then but I didn't replant them in dirt fast enough and the moss dried out so fast I lost them thru neglect. These got that new growth so fast. I need to move them out or repot them in soil now. I procrastinate doing everything these days though even going to bed. LOL.
I love trying new stuff too. Why not? Makes life more interesting and lets face it, my life is boring which is easily proven by my admitting getting a new rooting hormone is my thrill of the week. I need a new life. LOL
Kell I have heard the same thing from other people but here is what I have realized. Double Peach is one of those brugs that have to have the cuttings taken from the right place at the right time. The first cuttings that I received of D.Peach took a year and a half to bloom They also waited until they were 6 feet tall before they even 'Y'd. This summer I brought cuttings with me to NY. I took the cuttings in spring when the two mother plants were flowering. Of course they also came from above the 'Y'. The cutting is now 3 feet tall, has 'Y'd and is ready to bloom. Cuttings that I have given out to people have done the same thing this year for them. I just think that this is a sensitive issue for D. Peach. She is not to be dismissed though as a great bloomer. Once miss thing gets going she is a repeat bloomer of the most fragrant blooms that are long lasting and hasve plenty of fluffy pollen.
I have heard when you take cuttings from plants that are actively flowering (and above the 'Y') there is a hormonal thing occuring in the branches of the flowering region. This gives cuttings an advantage of coming into flower sooner. In some brugs it does not make a difference but with D. Peach, taking cuttings in the flowering region while the tree is flowering seem to make all the difference in the world.

I never had trouble rooting her just getting her to bloom. I have become less tolerant of lazy brugs taking up room. Produce or die. That is my new motto. LOL. So does the bottom skirt drop on her? Well too late for mine, they were big trees too and they are long gone.
Also I think some just hate my cooler weather. Like EP, who is such an ugly brug for me.
I bought my dbl. Peach from Native Habitat about 4 years ago, it is 6' tall, has Y'd, have seen one bloom at frost time last year. I too, am getting mighty tired of big plants that I care for, over 4 years that don't bloom for me! Bye, bye!! Pretty or not.
The Culebra is one that I have had for 4 years. Got it at the first Fl. swap from Gloria Lessner. I am trying to keep it in her honor. I haven't tried it in the ground but I think next year it will be in the ground. I did get buds last year and then winds off of Katrina blew them all off. I thought I had it in a protected area but evidenly not enough.
Oh my Gloria, I do think I remember when you got it from NHE which BTW I hear is open again for business. Gary must have the touch with her! I sure didn't. Great shots Gary!
That must have killed you when the buds were blown off Jim. I sure hope mine does better. I think I have had mine for 1.5 years. I was searching for a thread of Susie's about pollinating and came across a picture of her with Gloria and they were chatting back and forth on it. Brought back great memories of her.
kell you have dmail
Boy Sandy do I know that feeling. I recieved a dbl pink cutting last fall and it rotted. When I first noticed the rot I cut it away and tried to root the rest of the cutting. This happened a couple of time until there was nothing left. The ones that I had multiple cuttings of and didn't care if all rooted as long as 1 did. Well all of those would root.
If you can wait for a couple of weeks I will be cutting a couple of my plants back to get ready to bring them in and will HG cuttings available and maybe even Deserri.
Dott
I can surely wait. I sure appreciate the offer. Is there a picture in the plant files? Not that it makes a difference just cuorius.
You are really sweet to offer these to me. Thank you so much.
Kell I use the orchid moss also. The other 2 cuttings one of maya are doing good but the double pink rotted all the way to the tip and they ar 12 inch cuttings. I forget the name of the other one. It is doing good also.
I need to plant them outside but it is so hot. I can't wait till cool weather.
Thanks again and Kell it makes me feel better to know it is the brugs and not us. :o) ROTFLOL
It is never us Sandy! LOL
Sandy, I can give you cuttings of Mountain Magic, Cream Sickle, Sanguinea, & Tropical Sunset. At this time, I have no plans on cutting my pink doubles, but should that change, I will remember you and be in touch.
Tussee
Tussee,
You are so generous. Dott and you are so special. I would love to have cutting of Mountain Magic, Cream Sickle, Sanguinea, & Tropical Sunset. Is your Sanguinea the red one like pictured here? Because it won't live in our heat. I would rather you share with someone where it will live.
You are all so sweet. Of course I have not met anyone who isn't. But sharing your brugs makes me feel so very special.

Oh yes think of me when you do cut back your pink. Even if it is next year.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Sandy, send me d mail with your snail address. The Sanguinea is the red so we will forget about that one.
Tussee
Sandy, I forgot to include Painted Lady. If you already have this one, please let me know.
Tussee
No I do not have painted lady. It sounds beautiful.
Thank You,
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Dott and Tussee,
I would be very interested in your cuttings. Please tell me if I can get some for trade or postage and what you might like.
