Hello Again

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Well as some of my close friends here know, about a year ago,I got divorced and moved down south.
I could only bring a few plants with me,in the form of cuttings and bulbs.out of the 13 Brugs, I have 3 that survived, and I have about 4 Ears.
I did pick up a nice little start of Nanas from HD,and I plan on digging them and over wintering.
I hope some day to get my collection back up to the point I can trade like I used to.
So...... I would like to ask, this fall or next spring, anyone taking any cuttings or digging bulbs, please keep me in mind.
On a bright note,I now have a huge yard, and on a sad note,it is red clay.I will have to get my compost and worms working again.

Great to see you posting, Rootdoctor. If I have any plants you can use or want, they're yours.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Did the 4 ears have anything to do with the divorce? LOL

Seriously, I have some cannas that I've cleared out, different colors, do you want them for postage? Dmail me if you do.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Root overwintered ears bigger than a car in the house! I think he is lucky not to be dead. LOL.

Hey Root, looking so good. So why didn't you move to a better zone? I would love to see your garden in a tropical zone. Can you imagine how amazing it would be working with nature?

I should have some brugs for you but presently they are homes for many mites and they hate to fly.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Well Root.. I always loved your place.. I've a pile of things for you.. how far south..and in what state.. [Perhaps they are looking for you though ] were you allowed out with the ears.. from an earlier post .. I was wondering if you lost the garden in the divorce... red clay.. that could be anywhere down there... mothers is more golden in north alabama... before it spent 4 decades as a cowpasture..but the clay is down below the good stuff ..when I put downa hole it's there.. roll it into a ball and dry it.. and it's that shape forever..
do you want some brugs this time of year.. perhaps some plumeria... I couldwack away...andonly notice... by ..being able to walk through the space again..
All the best there now...
Gordon

Hey 'bamaRoot!
I'll have a Musa 'Bordelon' pup for you shortly.
It may well be hardy there or at least minimal winter protection.
(Like I need to tell you about Musa storage ROTFL!)
I'm in the process of having a cross section of EE pups delivered down to JaxFlaGardener.

W/O your help I'd not have been able to do nearly as well w/ these critters!
Any EE pups I get here in the next month or so are yours for the asking.

I have a couple of plain ol banana pups if you are interested. And a small pecan tree.

Fayetteville, PA(Zone 6b)

Hmmm.... I don't have much to share (since my garden's just getting started), but my Hardy Spider Plant (Chlorophytum major) should be ready to divide next spring.... I got it in may from Plant Delights Nursery, and it just had 2 crowns, but I guess it liked where i planted it, and it now has 4-5 crowns, LOL.

The best part is that up here in PA, our soil is Yellow/Gray clay (although there's about 6-12 inches of organic material over that in the woods where I have this planted)

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

That strain of yellow/grey clay must travel down to me cuz that is what I have in my yard!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL!! I'm gonna need a bigger yard!! You guys are too great!! You all are too kind!
Guess I need to recheck my zone,LOL! I have seen Brugs here that over wintered,it seems to be a valley that does not get to cold. I thought last year,That was winter??? LOL!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL @ Carter's remark! :) I've never had one overwinter outside but at my other house they did fine most of the time just having their large pot dragged into the garage. Of course that was a in a poured cement garage at ground level. Let me tell you they did not fair so well in a metal garage with carpet padding for insulation! LOL

Spend a small fortune on peat and manure so we can all set you up!

I wish you men would stop using Ken doll arms to make your ears look bigger.......

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Relax guys Root is 7b now.
Looks like he moved up in the world! lol

Well Root... welcome to HuntsPatch.. it's one of my old homes.. down on Hobbs Island Rd.. I had hoards of black widdow spiders there... I had to get a pile of game hens and silkeys to keep them at bay.. as the chickens would eat everything from 5' down...mother is still nearby... up just your side of Ardmore.. I was there a litle bit ago... and was giving away plants by the trunk load.. I allways give her things.. she grows them out .. and I have to come down to give them away.. you can have a hunk of her brug today.. I'll give you her address and you can drop byand get your cutting today... some cactus..a hunk of Yucca.. or perhaps some daturas... here hers is.. you'll have to move the brugs in there... I do believe.. or cut them back and cover with straw and fresh horse manure.. I built a bunch of houses there ..and one for mother..see you on my next trip there... I'll still send you a pile this fall.. or tomorrow myself... let me know when you have a bit of time or space to manage them.. Gordon

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Or better Root..
Just post an address for yourself... and stand back a safe distance from the mail box.. I loved Kell's thought... that growing and overwintering so many so big inside.. your safety might have been in jeopardy.. you're lucky.. to have escaped... I'm worried myself now .. I had no idea... Picture is of the triple purple datura at mothers.. on a 100*+ F day

Let me know root,I have just about everything, you once had before, and have plenty extra.
Do you have a place you can winter over these tropicals?
Or would it be better in the springtime to recieve them?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

ROFL!! Gordon,Can't wait till your next trip south,my Bro lives up north of stateline rd.on old Baptist road,so I get up to Ardmore a good bit, just say the word and I will be there.
TMan,I knew I could count on you! And Beggers can't be choosy,I will take any thing any time, spring or fall, what is best for you! I have my addy in the exchange now.

So,I guess a quick tour,so you all can see my task at hand.

I live right in town,so I will be filling in every where,to cut down on noise and get some privacy.
I will toss up a few pics I just took to let you see where I am starting.
