It used to be:
My Very Extravagant Mother Just Sent Us Nine Pizzas. School children were taught with a few mnemonics to remember Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The following are thoughts presented for children, less Pluto, from today's news, but I'm wondering what good ones we can think of at DG:
-My Very Extravagant Mother Just Sent Us Nachos.
-My Very Elderly Mother Just Sits Up Nights.
-Major Volcanoes Erupt, Making Jolts, Shaking, Unsteadying Nerves.
-Make Very Extraordinary Meals of Jell-O, Strawberries and Unsalted Nuts.
-Mary's Violet Eyes Make Jack Stare Until Noticed.
How about:
Martha's Violet Eupatorium Makes Jungles Seem Unusually Naked.

Pluto demoted
I just saw that this morning about Pluto.....is that not wild? How the heck can they just chunk Pluto after all these years???
Just look at what (my) Catholic church did to all the saints we knew and loved as kids!
Actually, they said that because of it's size it didn't qualify. That took 30 years to find out???????
The snippet I saw about Pluto said it was "No 'Survivor'... Pluto voted of planet list", or something like that. lol... I was feeling sorry for the cold little feller :)

Poor Poor Pluto!
How about ...
My Very Energetic Mother Just Sweeps Until Numb...mine is a clean freak!
Sarah - love the electrician one!
Luv - good one! Especially for an OC mom.
Isn't that something? Just booted that 'planet' right outta there!

lol.....cute one, wuvie!
I read just last week that we were up to TWELVE planets: Pluto, Charon, and two others. Then just a day ago read that they dumped them all including Pluto. I've lived all my life "knowing" that we had nine planets circling the sun. My universe has just diminished!
So next time you're on a game show, and they ask "What's the farthest planet from the sun?" and you say Neptune, make a squawk if they tell you you're wrong.
What's the official designation for Pluto now? Ninth Rock from the Sun?
Next: the calendar!
I wonder which month would be "de-selected" based on popular opinion. I'd oust February and make January 14th Valentine's Day. Second choice would be March. Maybe it's because by mid February I'm really ready for gardening.
Mnemonics make the heart grow fonder.
Psst! pirl: switch Mercury and Mars in your original post before the teacher sees it (as closest to Sun, or all those space missions are going the wrong direction).
I'm also reconstructed, so I'm keeping Pluto in. If taxonomists can keep changing their minds about plant names, astronomers can and likely will too, so expect Pluto to return about the time that the whole Asteraceae changes constitution again.
Most Viburnums Excel Many Joyous Seasons (Unless No Pollinators).
Thanks. Just edited it.
