Lets liven things up a bit, shall we. PART II

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Did I give you that? Can you take a side shot of it.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh my, I forgot to get a shot of Lory, will have to remedy that! It's become a fast favorite, hasn't stopped blooming and is so happy outside.

Look what I just found, this rex that gets ignored except for watering when I water everything. Been outside for about 1 1/2 years now. Love these sweet bonus blooms.

I cant remember who it is. Sorry. Do you recall when I gave it to you?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Such cute blooms

Odd thing about Lory is that I have yet to see female blooms on her. Perhaps she's sterile and only gets the male blooms. I did some research on her yesterday (in the Thompson's book) but didn't find all that much.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

here's a better pic of the whole plant, I think it was a Sloat's find. (I need to go there still!)

I stuck the pot that Lory Hanson is in into that back of a big pot and added ferns and coleus. She has several bloom clusters now, no green on any of them though.

But the blooms are awesome!

B. Plum Gorgeous is all ears!

Now I remember. It's one from Joan Coulot's collection. I'm sure at one point it had a name. Post it to the yahoo group, perhaps Paul can ID it since he and Joan went to the growers and tagged as many as they could.

It grows like 'Sierra Green Butterfly' the way the stems forks like that. But SGB had RED stems! yummy!

Lory looks happy!!! The green may be caused by lack of light.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Hubby did some major pruning of the orange tree to paint the house 2 weeks ago so now I get a little more light underneath. I have this unknown tuberous that has been blooming all summer, I ignored it except for water, I know fertilizer would have made a big difference in the amount of blooms but it does seem to enjoy the brighter light

The blooms are a soft yellow with coral edges, yummy!

The one you said might be 'Cleopatra' looks like 'Butterfly' to me. Too many that look alike. The pink rex looks like 'Pink Diamonds'.

I know this isn't a begonia but it certainly is colorful. It's a cyclamen I picked up at Wal-Mart last week.

Time to go dig in the dirt.

I never get tired of looking at theimei growing so happy among the coleus. I snapped off a big section that was grwoing funky sideways and just stuck it in the soil next to it, never missed a beat so it must have rooted pretty quick.
The pink blooms of Richmondiis blooming in the pot next to is always, great garden plant. So Kell, PINK stays after all, too many coleus, fucshias and begonias are pink to eliminate it. Orange mixes in just fine LOL!

Wal-Mart??? I think I need to take another pain pill and hit the road, that is stunning!
Thanks too for the name updates, I will tag them now before I forget.

OMYGOODNESS! Butch nice wally find! Our wally looks like a wasteland! Every once in a blue moon I find a gem but it's rare.

I watched a gal water at HD last night and had to laugh. It definitely is 'one size fits all' watering program. I felt bad for the orchids. Poor african violets were sogged out!

Nice group of polka-dotters there!!!

Sue, great grouping of colors!!

Well, I have been working hard to add all my begonias to my Journal here, I add pictures as I can, changing them if I shoot a better one. It's a nice way to keep track of them with images, quite easy to use once you get the hang of it actually. I know that probably some of the cultivar names should most likely be listed as species but I labeled them all under the cultivar catagory to keep them in alphabetical order. So far I have 51 Begonia entries along with several other plants.

Great idea there, Calif_Sue. I never thought about doing that. Is there a limit (MB or number of pictures) you can add?

I put a couple of collages together instead of posting one picture at a time.

Here is #1.

#2.

I wonder if we could put a flip book in DG? That would be kinda neat.

Nope no limit at all, just like PlantFiles. (I hope everyone here starts adding your begonia images there too, I have been adding my own copyrights and adding new additions) You can upload full size and Dave's automatically reduces the image size. I use my free Picasa program to sharpen my images and I expory those to a seperate folder, the program automatically downsizes the images so they upload here fast.

Love your collages, they gave me a great idea. In 10 minutes I added a Collage catagory and uploaded all my collages I made with Picasa. So you can add anything, even landscape/pet/home improvement etc. images since that's all a part of Dave's too!

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

That's great to know. I have two free sites but are limited. MSN is a 3 MB limit - very small. And my ISP (BellSouth which is soon to be AT&T) has a 10 MB limit. I will have to start adding to the journal ASAP.

I have Picasa but haven't taken advantage of it. I use Microsoft's Digital Image primarily but I'm trying to learn Adobe Elements (confusing right now but I hear about all its benefits).

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh Butch, you have to try that Picasa, it's da bomb' for ease of use and functions!
Here's a thread I started giving tips in the daylily Forum, with lots of examples.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/617529/ check that last photo examples I just added

Gosh, sorry Lali, guess we'll need a new thread soon when we get going here on all kinds of things!

Okay, you twisted my arm. I will have to dogear this page (your link above) and give it a closer look. I looked at your last two pictures there and you got a nice effect on the last picture. Makes it look like something out of the past, a nice dreamy effect.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That's what I was going for, I have it burned on a CD to take in for printing, hope it turns out OK since it's an odd shape from cropping.
Have fun!

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

It should be fine. What size are you wanting to print? Can't you print it at home?

If I have a bunch to print, then I take it to Sam's else just do it at home. One hour printing for a few hundred makes sense to me. No telling how long that would take at home. I don't print anything too big. It has to be really special to do that. Sometimes I print two 5x7 on one sheet, very rare that I do an 8x10. Most prints I do are 4x6 on pre-cut paper. Most of the time it's just viewing on the screen.

Here is one I did an 8x10 of.

My color printer is kaput, didn't upgrade into my new computer for some reason even after checking for new drivers and updates, will have to get a new one someday. I fill a CD before I run to Wally World for prints, they do a nice job.
I plan to do several of my bloom shots to frame for a wall display, some in black & white.

Gorgeous shot!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Great pics all thru this thread. So much fun.

I am drowning in pictures myself. My hard drive is so full I must delete pics before I download new ones. I have a new computer Tom bought me almost 1 year ago but I never switched over. Tom found a place who will do it. It will take them 2 days to transfer all my pictures they said. I am going to get a mirror set up too this time just in case.

I should start a journal too here. Do you transfer them at once or do you have to do them pic by pic, Sue?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

One by one, just like PlantFiles. But once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze. As you can see by my Garden Shots one, you don't have to make the names exact, just something to make the new Catagory and listing. let me know if you need and help.
Leaving in a bit, Dad's coming home today, after over 2 months. I ahve lots of work so will be back later.

Oh Sue, I hope it all goes well for you all. I know he will be thrilled to be home in his own space!

Your picture is just great as usual. What is that plant behind your flower with that neat leaf.............

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

I guess that is the nice thing about MSN because you can download a bunch at one time but then 3MB is not much.

I burned a CD the last time I took pictures in to be printed and it was SLOW. So today I put them on a CF card and the download was a lot faster at the store (158 pictures ~ 460 MB).

If you are close to filling your hard drive, I recommend getting an external hard drive. I don't want to put Western Digital down but I've had a lot of crashes with them, so this year I got a Seagate (keep my fingers crossed) 400 GB external (USB and Firewire) at Sam's for $250. I could've gotten a WD 250 GB for $100 cheaper but I wanted to try another maker. I back up my home computer with that one. I was so pleased with it that I went and got another one to back up my wife's laptop (160 GB), my work laptop (40 GB), and my laptop (80 GB). Lots of space (so far).

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That's my caster bean that I grew from seed, left in a 5 gal pot and then it rooted through the pot and so is a permanent fixture now for over 2 years. I just trim it and shape it every once in a while and it's a lovely backdrop and color view from the living room window.

Thumbnail by Calif_Sue
San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Very pretty Sue and I see you have a variegated buddleia too. I just planted my standard of that one in the ground. It was no longer happy in a pot. I hope it doesn't get too huge.

Thanks Butch, I so need a back up system. Is that Seagate system the same as a mirror system? I hear that is the way to go in backup. But I know nothing.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

No, it isn't a mirror. Just a back up or extra storage. You can still recover though after you replace your crashed drive.
