Lets liven things up a bit, shall we. PART II

Love the enthusiasm on this forum! While showering my begonias with some TLC yesterday just had to take a photo of Rex 'Harmony's Twisted Sister'........

Hiya Snowrose! Thanks for the 'Twisted Sister' shots!

When I recover from the trip to Santa Barbara and Vista (Kartuz Nursery trip), I'll start posting some photos. I haven't finished catching up on stuff around the house (lots of new begonia babies to pot up and oldies to repot)- but have lots to show and tell from the Begonia show and sale at Gazebo Plants and Flowers (and a few nurseries too!)

At any rate, thanks for sharing H. Twisted Sister! (great name!)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Looking forward to all your begonia travel and show pics!

It is a great name,,,nothing like it's owner ;0)

Fruitport, MI(Zone 5a)

Great pics Snowrose. That's a pretty one.

I can't wait to see all your photos too, Lali.

I started taking photos of my begonias a couple of days ago. There's so many, its just taking a while. I'll get them posted soon.

Can't wait to see those pics Lali, great seeing you again and it was nice to meet Mr. Kartuz today as well. Thanks again for the plant goodies and mini tour! Had a great time with my grandson touring the botanical gardens, conservatory and seeing the butterflies. Took over 175 pictures.

Ok, this one was in the SF conservatory, any ideas as to it's name?

B. Gene Daniels had a beautiful bloom at the SF Botanical Garden!

It was 6+ft tall, nice red underneath the leaves.

Sue, the first two shots look like 'Bird's Nest' - one we found for sale down at the show. (of course it came home with us!!!) But several are 'look alikes' so it can be hard to say for sure.

I just LOVE Gene Daniels! Must make a note to see if we can get some cuttings for the sales started. We only just have the one in the greenhosue and it's too tiny to cut on.

It was great to see you yesterday too! And Connor too!! Glad you had a good time at the conservatory and the arboretum!

Got some more shots to share. This is Begonia boliviensis.

No label on this one, perhaps Irene Nuss?

The butterflies were nice, I think they wanted out though.

Here's a huge begonia, any idea which one?

And of course the squirrels are super friendly.

One of my favorite, Fuchsia boliviana 'Alba'

Should a new thread be started such as show me your begonias?

Finally after months of waiting and just watering on a fairly even schedule, things are looking up. I think I fertilized only twice so far this year (hose end sprayer with MG). Lots of heat and humidity have helped as well.

Here are two box turtles having hanky panky among some of my pots.

This is one fancy rex (okay upright jointed whatever). I got this last year at PHOE and was told it wasn't a rex but it has some rex genes. This is 'Deco Twirl'.

Here are some mating stink bugs on one of my rexes.

Some silver rexes, 'Pattern', and 'Cracklin Rosie'.

Another rex 'Can Can' and other supporting members.

Some more random begonias. I have them packed so tight that I can't even step in there and remove the empty pots.

More rexes with lots of silver. 'Fireworks' is in the back. U357 is in front.

'Benitochiba' this year. It needs to be repotted since it has been in this pot for the last 3 years.

Some canes mixed in with some other houseplants.

Lovely begonias Butch. Deco Twirl and Benitochiba are really nice.
Love the mixed canes with the house plants. Is that Silver Mist
in the middle of the last pic?

Jackie

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Jackie. I have become enamored with 'Deco Twirl' for size and color. The leaf is extra large (maybe 12 inches across). 'Benitochiba' isn't as big as it has been in the past but it's still a winner in my book.

I believe the cane with all the silver is 'Silvermist' or 'Silver Mist'. There has been debate on whether it is two words or one. Either way it is great when the silver becomes dominant.

Here is nelumbiifolia with a new leaf from earlier today. I wish I could grow this as large as the ones at Fairchild Tropical Garden.

Nice collection of begonias Butch. I especially like the canes and the dark colored one that you posted on the 29th at 4:58pm. It's in the bottom left side. Do you know the name of it?

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

kathyvm,

The dark colored one is 'Bashful Bandit'. After seeing Julie's a couple of years ago on the Yahoo group, I knew I had to get this one. PHOE had it when I visited them last year and it was one of the first ones in the cart.

Here is a picture of it from last year, 'Benitochiba', 'Flying High' (the dark, small, star shaped one), 'Earl-ee-bee' (the tall one), and some other rhizos (the big one was simply called 'Green Rhizomas' and the other dark one in the same pot was 'Black Falcon' (if I remember right).

What a morning treat! I've been playing hookey from Daves for several days. Nice to step back in and see all the beauties posted.
Nice work Butch! Great Growing. Do you still grow Cora Miller? One of those coppery ones reminded me.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Glad to have you back. Hope you had fun and are rested up. Just in time for the weekend. Is it time to start potting up? I know I have a bunch to do.

Yes, that is 'Cora Miller' in the second collage - middle row on the left with 'Pink Minx' on its left.``

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

AND I have a box of goodies for you Butch. My goal it to send your plants out along with a few other pending trades I'm behind in, but my days aren't long enough!! Brad picked yours out from the list you sent me. He made a sub or two but said you would like them (I think they are some he hasn't released yet?) Anyway, if I wasn't so swamped in this current project, I'd take some photos. (and post my trip photos- sigh!)

We grow Cora Miller at the arboretum but our last snip of her is in the prop bench as the mom plant was in complete decline. Hope she makes it!!

I just got about 60 clay pots in various sizes so I could pot up this weekend. I want to get all my Kartuz/Gazebo purchases potted up and up pot some oldies that did well this year. One that did really great is what I believe to be ricinifolia, and your poponoei that I am someday going to send you but it keeps getting bigger and bigger!!

do you still grow peltata? if not, let me know, I put down some starts when I whacked back the toppling over mom plant.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Sounds like you will be quite busy this weekend. What a way to spend a long weekend.

Don't worry about sending anything until you find time.

Cora is up and down so don't be surprised if she suddenly comes back.

I still have peltata that I got from GHW last year. It is doing great. What about your erose leaf peltata or kellermanii? How's it doing?

Here is peltata two days ago after a night of rain.

Thumbnail by hcmcdole
Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I asked Brad about the difference between the two and he said there's some vibrant discussion between himself and others as to the 'real' peltata/kellermanii. He thinks I have b.peltata and I think I do too OR I may have this one 'Velvet Jeans' http://absastro.tripod.com/hkey/hpicother_az/VelvetJeans.jpg (looks amazingly like the baby I have in the prop trays at the arboretum http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2621358)

Here's the shot of the mom plant from the first part of this thread. http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2621363

I think I can mail on Tues. If I send out Friday, they'll sit over the 3 day weekend.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

No matter what it is (peltata, kellermanii, or 'Velvet Jeans'), it's still a keeper. I know you've asked a blue million people about the ID on this one. Call it a variation on one of the two species or possibly someone's hybrid (call it Lali's peltata variation).

I can't see much difference through pictures but maybe if we saw them side by side, then we would see why there are two species (this is like the brevirimosa and exotica debate).
