One easy way to limit yourself to subscribers-only forums is to go through your "favorite forums" list and select only subscribers-only forums to appear on your "Home" tab. That way, you'll know you're in one of them unless you deliberately choose to access another forum via either of the "Talk" tabs.

None of the forums that were subscribers-only prior to the introduction of Home Talk have changed, so if those were the forums on your favorites list anyway, you're pretty well set.

Google will show you different results if you are logged in, versus when you are logged out. (Don't ask me how, but it works.) So you don't have to worry about Google displaying any post you made to a subscribers-only forum, unless the person viewing that result is also a DG subscriber.

I'll be honest, if there stuff you're that uncomfortable posting stuff in forums that are open to non-subscribers, then you probably shouldn't feel that comfortable posting it in subscriber only forums either--the membership fees charged here aren't high enough to really exclude much of anybody from joining. I feel the admins do a great job of keeping the junk out, both getting rid of subscribers and non-subscribers who aren't following the rules so I'm not sure what's really changed. I'm curious why so much of what you post is stuff that you don't feel comfortable with non-subscribers seeing? I can't think that you're posting that much personal information anywhere, and personally I don't see the objection to non-subscribers seeing and participating in discussions relating to gardening! All of the forums I can think of where getting more personal, or wanting to feel like you have the support of a family (such as prayer requests) or where more personal info might be shared (like Roundup forums) are already subscribers only, and on the others as long as you're sticking with discussing things that relate to the subject of the forum, I don't understand why it makes people feel uncomfortable. I'm not trying to get you to feel differently, I'm just puzzled because this keeps coming up again and again and I just don't get it.

ginni, you don't have to login/logout. My point was that IF you are logged in to DG, and you Google for something and a Dave's Garden subscribers-only forum comes up in your results, don't panic.

That Google result is not displayed for anyone who isn't a subscriber AND logged in when they ran that same search.

ecrane3 and Terry - I am aware it is a personal thing for me. I know that DG can and will survive my tiny little objection, and that is *good*. It is just the way I feel and I can't explain it to anyone. I just FEEL it.

Please ignore me - I am going to edit out these posts!

You're not the only one who's objecting though--if you look through the threads on this forum over the last month, this issue keeps coming up over and over again and it seems to be very upsetting to a number of people, and I just don't quite understand why, personally it doesn't make sense to me and I'm trying to understand why other people feel so strongly about it. That's all!

never mind ecrane3, it isn't important, just personal.

Ecrane3 I have to agree with you I have read this numerous times and it perplexes me. The internet is an open open place - that's why I have my PO box! :)

Some of us just feel like we are entering a private club surrounded by friends when we come to DG. Sometimes the reality that "strangers" can read what we post is a bit much. Being a paid member doesn't make you any more a good or bad person than the people that don't pay to join. It is a false sense of security and I can honestly agree with both sides.
