Coffee and ... for Tuesday, August 8

I forgot to say hi and welcome Chantell. Just come right on in and tell us a bit about yourself. We are a chatty bunch. LOL

Meezers, that's great! I'll take one of the eggplants. :-)

Okay I'm gone. May have to power down. Sounds like the weather is kicking up.

Hi everyone- home from a gala day again!! Just got Dsis on the road home_she has a five hour drive ahead of here_ glad it is her and not me!! We went to a huge arboretum today - paid 12 bucks to get in and 3 more to ride a tram around. But oh, what a glorious time we had. So glad we took the tram - we had a narrated talk about all the different sculptures in the park. We ate lunch at the little outdoor cafe and visited the gift shop. ahhh what a nice day..

Then we went and picked up DM and SF and drove them out to see my elderly aunt that made the quilt. Poor aunt is in such pain with a compressed disk in her back. Had a nice visit.

M5- did you ride on any wild rides while you were at the park? Do the 'guess your age and weight?' LOL Get an elephant ear? yum...

Molly - glad you have a frig full of leftovers...nothing better!! If only we lived closer....

I see Defoe is still canning up a storm. My tomatoes are all green. I am disgusted with myself.- We've only had 3 meals of green beans and now they are too huge to do anything with. Now I feel so wasteful....

Darius - how nice to have a young man willing to work...he sounds like a keeper-and a great worker!! Sounds like you two are a perfect fit. How wonderful for you both. Heck, we all will need help sometime in our life. I know it's not easy to accept it, but you've given to others - now it's your turn. What goes around, comes around you know...

suz- how nice for the PITA to share her coupon with you!!! I just used my coupon too...

Welcome Chantell- now you just pull up a chair and tell us all about yourself- and your life..

cece- glad you have the pic thing figured out - I struggled with it too and just when I get smug and think I have it mastered, something goes awry!! If I would post a pic everyday I think I could remember what to do!

Vi- good shopping on the bathing suit. I really should have looked harder for one. I keep thinking I need to drop some weight before I get a new one- I should really be realistic..LOL

GG- what did the dentist/doc put you on? I'm surprised they couldn't get you in sooner...drat.

Speaking of pain, my back is a little sore in the morning, but all in all, I feel much better. Tonight is the first night back in my bed, so tomorrow will be the test.

Weather today was nice and cool and fresh feeling. Almost a fall feeling to the air. But land sakes, are we dry again. Tomorrow I'll be dragging out the hoses....

~~ to everyone else....chat tonight...don't forget!

HI All,

Back for a minute or 2. Having some relief now from the Ibuprofen,,,,,it feels good to have a dull throbbing now. How sad that sounds.

Ann,
Yep, it was Julie that started the thread. Wish she would pop in for her B-Day! Oh, yes, your trip sounds Wonderful. I do believe I asked if I could stow away in a trunk to go with,,,how bout it??? Love the little facts you're putting in the first post now. Interesting.

So nice to see some new faces in coffee that I see around the other Forums. Glad you could all join us. I've been kinda elusive as of late,,,which translates into lazy,,,LOL Have been lurking but the CRS keeps me from retaining any info in which to reference. That being said, I'll not try to catch up, I'll just start over.

wood,
Wow, that's one sad story about your BIL. I agree, what a waste of God given talent. I hope his kids get some help soon. Don't care much for Bill's family,,,but then he doesn't either. I love my Dad and my brother, Just cause they are my Dad and my brother, however, I Really don't Like them and try to stay away as much as possible. Could go into a book of details, but won't. Just ticks me off,,,LOL

cec,
I completely agree. Tell him to leave it alone, it's your home, you're paying for it and it will be your descision. When his name is on the house and he pays for it, he can do anything he wants to. Had to tell my Dad that once. He usually doesn't put his 2 cents in about my home anymore.

sarv,
My, things have changed around here,,healthy breakfast, early morning walk? One would think you're trying to get health? Good for you.

ves,
Love watching the hummers. Beautiful little birds.

M5,
LOL,,You got it,,,like those of us who Really do know everything,,,Love it.

darius,
Good for you. Hope you find a good one and quick! I have to go back and forth reading and posting,,,it's really a pita. I should just open another browser. Nah, too easy,,,LOL Seems like your helper is a bright, hard working young man, glad you found each other. He'll learn Tons of stuff from you and like you said, you'll learn from him too

dcat,
hope your day isn't planned for you. Guess it was,,,lol What a pita, canning at this time with this heat. That's why I didn't want a big garden this year. I'm tired of canning all the time in this heat. Can't ever get it done in one day,,,has to be every weekend and when I can, my kitchen is Totalled,,LOL

oz,
I agree, if you're going to do something, do it right the first time.

Mary,
Sure hope those fires stay far away from you.

Chantell,
Welcome to coffee. Nice to meet you. Look forward to getting to know you.

suzie,
Hi there,,,thanks. I hope it's a regular thing again,,,popping in every day.

Well, it's taken me all afternoon inbetween customers to type this, so bye for now. May pop in later.

Kelly

Darius,

Your husky looks wonderful!!!!!!. I knew they would do so much better out of the sand.

Enjoy!!!!!

Molly
:^))))

Darius, is that called a husky cherry or just plain ole husky? I grew some husky cherries and they were mighty fine I might add. :-)

Well, the weather's gone ... a lotta bang but not much in the rain department. Chicken's in the oven. Heck the DH's lunch didn't sound bad to me. I asked him what did he do ... the poor guy went and got a hamburger. I could have made a meal off that stuff. *men* LOL

Kelly, sure hope you get some relief *real soon. You're in my T&P's. Please don't be such a stranger. We miss you when you don't post.

Oooops, got to go turn the chicken.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Sheesh, some restaurants sell wraps that are breadless sandwiches, and the lettuce takes the place of the bread to hold in the fillings. I could have made a lunch out of that!! I swear if I drop dead, DH will starve in less than a week. No food prepared and set in front of him.

Darius, you've got a great helper in that boy! You'll make a great team.

No, Sarv, I did not go on any rides! I'm smarter than I look. Last ride I went on was with DGS at Great America about 15-20 years ago and it was the roller coaster, the old wooden kind. Learned my lesson. And I don't even want to guess MY OWN weight let alone have some carny do it. And to pay them for the privilege? Nuh uh!!!

DH put my sundial back together!!! Said he couldn't weld it, so he rigged up a clamp of some kind. I hope it holds because I don't think he'll do it again.

Need to start thinking about what to make for dinner. Watered some outside and dusted the roses for the jap beetles that finally showed up. DH is trying to patch the driveway where we had some salt damage. Don't even want to ask how it's going, he's such a perfectionist. Glad to see all who dropped in today, welcome Chantell, I hope you realize we are all a little off center.

Brain dead.

IO1, you'd have to ask Molly about the Husky but I believe it has cherry sized tomatoes. Right now close to 200 no bigger than a quarter, down to dime size for the babies. None are showing any red or even pink/orange yet.

Yep, that sounds like mine. You'll be very pleased with the taste. Oh and once they start coming in .... wow!

Yeah Meezers, I love those wraps ... but you know how a *man is. They just gotta have bread. At least mine does. He eats 2 ... yes I said t w o sandwiches everytime he eats them ... no matter what kind they are. Oh and he can polish off a 12 inch sub from the sandwich shop also. Gosh, I don't know where they put all that food. Speaking of which ... mine is getting cold. He's not home *yet! Boo hiss.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Darius- I thought the reference to 'husky' was to your teenage helper!!! Guess I better slow down and read more carefully!! LOL (at myself...)

Walked around the gardens until the skeeters drove me inside- darn things. Now we're watching the food network...loose meat sandwiches....

Hi everyone and a special hello and Happy Birthday to Julie!

I just have to warn everyone right now that when it's my turn to start the thread this month, you will NOT get all this lovely historical perspective! When I was a young kid, I just loved the history we were taught because it was put into a story, ie. "Sunbonnet Sue and Homesteader Harry start a new life on the Plains". I'm completely intrigued if I feel that I can get a real feel of what it would have been like to live in a particular time and place. When it got down to a matter of memorizing a bunch of dates, I completely lost interest!

I01, it's truly amazing what these men will resort to! Just because you forgot the bread, your DH actually resorted to one of those rubber "hamburgers"? Wow! What you packed for him, even without the bread, sounded so much tastier! My DH is a pushover for pasta. I, on the other hand, try to avoid unnecessary carbs (generally avoid bread without any problem, but when it comes to rice and pasta --- ooops!) Sorry that you've gotten so much "Bang" without even the benefit of accompanying rain. I really don't like the lightning myself. If it gets too close it's a toss-up whether the cats or I will be the first to head for the cellar.

Welcome to the new people and welcome back to GG (hey, GG, don't stay away for so long, okay? You and Joyous are the only ones that I know understand what it's like to actually be in business on your own.) Speaking of which, hey Joyous, where the heck have you been?

M5, I understand from Bonnie that the lady beagle is looking a bit plump. Have you actually started packing for your "move" yet? LOL! You must have really good eyes to be able to pick out the veggies in those pics that you posted! I think I might have seen one of the baby eggplants, but beyond that, all I could see were leaves. I also have a couple of eggplants and two immature pumpkins, but NO cukes so far and no ripe tomatoes yet.

darius, yup, I do agree about the anesthetic qualities of (enough) vodka, but hope that you can find a more permanent solution to the tooth problem!

Bonnie, that reminds me, how are you doing now? I sure hope that both your legs are feeling and behaving better! (I didn't respond to your query about the arnica, as darius had already answered your question). Good luck with the remaining canning/freezing projects! I guess that's one benefit of a less than spectacular gardening year ---not much of anything to try to preserve.

Hi to suzieq, cece, Molly, Mary, V-ann, sarv, Twyla, tgif, woodspirit, ves, dmcd, and oz. Also ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to all our absent friends.

Say goodnight, Gracie.

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Goodnight Gracie....................I'm heading up as well. Long day oday doing hardly anything. Have you eer notced that las=zy makes you more tired than unlazy? Someday maybe I'll take a try at thread starting. No don't count on it. I'm not bight enough It'd take 3 months t get the first day,.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I am back,it's before midnight, and I will post in "today's thread. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

McCool, the leg that had the muscle pull, is sore, but not incapicating, the vein thing on the other side, has gone down to normal size, but is bruised. I ordered some arnaca, but it will have to be for other owies, as this will be gone by the time it arrives. Took a good look at mama beagle, and me thinks there are puppies there. M5, you better get moving soon, I am gonna personally hire detectives to track you down!! You soon will be a 4 cat 1 dog household.

susieq, glad that you could squeeze in a post, miss you when we don't hear from you.

same for you GG. Hope that you soon get that dentist appointment and you will no longer need the antibiotics or tylenol.

I01, I hear you about men and bread!! Mine can't have a meal without it. I have to admit that I do real good, don't like commercial bread, but I am a knock over for home made yeast bread. Could sit and eat it without anything but butter.

M5, I think I saw some miniature something in those pics. I will try to take a picture of my Big Zack tomato plant and it's green fruit tomorrow. These babies are gonna weigh in at better than 2 pounds each. And they are runnin down your chin good! This is one that was planted a lot later, so no ripe ones there yet.

Viann, I guess, compared to your fascinating information, my thread starting was way dull. The only other thing I could have done with mine, is maybe post a new recipe each day, well, I guess, if I am allowed, I will have another turn, that's an idea.

Sarv, sounds like you and DS really had a good time. I am so glad that you got to spend some time with her, and you did some fun things. My DTS and I don't have to do anything exciting, we just have a great time visiting. Will see her this Sunday, so am looking forward to it.

susieq and Cece, I just happened to think about BIL and SIL, I have 5 BIL and only 1 that is a keeper, with another one a maybe, then the SIL, I have 6. Now can you see how this plays out DH is one of 11 in his family, 5 sisters and only one of his brothers is married, several of his sisters are okay, not really close though, and on my side 2 BIL and no SIL. Both my brother, and Waynes brothers have been married multiple times, but can't seem to find one that will stay with them. Tells me a lot. Sure hope no one askes me how may Ex BIL and SIL's I have had, that would sure make me have to sit and count for awhile!! But only one BIL is so annoying that I can't even handle answering the phone when he calls, that even makes me mad!!

Well, gotta get going, I haven't checked any other forums tonight, as I was waiting for DH and DGD to come in and they were later than I expected. So kinda got behind waiting for them

Hope you all have a good night, and awake refreshed and pain free.

Good night.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Hi everybody...thought I would show up for a bit. I can't remember when I last posted here so if I repeat myself, I apologize.

My days are a blur, a hot blur too. I think I have my fibromyalgia back and I am hurting so bad almost everyplace on my body that I can't think straight. I really thought I was done with that. I lost 60 pounds three years ago and felt soooo much better. I guess that tells you that I have gained some back. And it tells me what I should do about it.

I think I have arthritis acting up in the joint on my middle finger on my right hand. I can't really bend it and it is swollen. Of course that is the arm that swells up with edema because of the lymph nodes being removed back in 1994. AND that is the arm that had the shoulder surgery.

I finished physical therapy back in June and am supposed to be doing my exercises at home. I figured for awhile there that scooping dirt from the bag into the pots was good enough exercise. Of course, I don't really do much of that now it is so hot but I exercise by holding the water hose to water all those potted plants. LOL

That is my day....drag myself out of bed where I am miserable and hurting, get my breakfast and coffee and start the watering marathon. DH has his sprinklers to attend to and move and I have mine. We make quite a team. LOL

I have a wren nest in a begonia pot, the babies have hatched and are growing well. I don't see how they have room in that pot for four babies and the other day I saw BOTH mom and dad wren go in there. How on earth did they have room to turn around. I would love a picture of that. It is extremely difficult to get pictures of them, I have to use the flash and I can't see what I am taking, so they aren't very good pics.

Snowcone spends his days under the hosta, Strypurr spends her days back under the elephant ears.

We do not expect rain ever again... it sure seems that way, and 100's forever and ever. It is getting me way way down.

I have started walking again. I felt like I was so out of shape that I couldn't walk across the family room without huffing and puffing. So I go out after dinner and do my back watering that takes until about 8:30 and then I go 12 driveway rounds which is 1.5 miles. Each driveway round is 1/8 mile. I have gotten to really enjoy it, walking in the dark, the rabbits come out and the night sounds start up. It is still doggone hot though. Then I get in the house about 9:15 and still have to do the dishes. I think DH ought to do that for me don't you????? ha ha ha ha ha

Tomorrow is my birthday and if I don't hurry up and finish this, it will BE tomorrow.

I know I have done more than this in the last two months. I will try to keep up, I do read every day so know that I try. Of course, with the way my days are, it would be the same thing everyday anyway.

I need something to raise my spirits but I can't think what it might be. Maybe a new kitten will be dumped or somethin'...LOL

Susan
=^..^=

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Aw Susan, sorry for your pain. It seems that you are trying everything to keep going. Just think it won't be long till fall, and the temps should moderate, then we will have the cold winter to contend with. Not looking forward to that, as I have SAD, and sometimes it gets really bad. I have not experienced an episode of that since about January or February, so I know that light is the treatment for that. Sure hope that you can find things that will ease your pain some, I know that my arthritis is kept in check by just doing things.
