Coffee and ... for Monday, August 7 Canada’s August Holiday - We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/635952/
The first Monday in August is a holiday in most of the Provinces and Territories. What you will often find, however, is that its name changes from province to province, and even amongst different regions within a province. On calendars, it is generally labelled as “Civic Holiday” as not to be region specific. In Ottawa, “Colonel By Day” is the name given to the August Civic Holiday. No matter what it is called, it is a much needed long weekend in the short Canadian summers. For more information: http://www.craigmarlatt.com/canada/symbols_facts&lists/august_holiday.html
For more about Colonel By, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_By My kids went to Colonel By Secondary School.
Revolutionary war hero Nathanael Greene was born on August 7, 1742, in Potowomut, RI. Appointed to the rank of major general in 1776, Greene is best known for his astuteness as commander in chief of the southern army, a position he assumed in 1778.
In 1978 - United States President Jimmy Carter declared a federal emergency at Love Canal.
Garrison Keillor (Prairie Home Companion) was born in 1942.

Good Morning to everyone and hope everyon has a great day. I am hoping once the pond is in that I will see more wildlife but not the chipmunks. I see enough of those already and they bug me. Oh well.~~~~~~~~to all hope those in need of cool weather and rain get it soon, those in pain get relief soon. Thoughts are with everyone. ttyl cherie
Hi again
Thanks for all your salt/potassium suggestions. I'll get on it. I feel better just having a clue what's probably going on. It is scary to feel like that (and of course it was Sunday so no one to call).
Twyla-I'll keep you in my prayers still in the heat there. I've had enough of it myself, I too don't know how you stay so positive.
cherie-Well, i hope you just get the birds enjoying your pond! I've gotten a kick out of watching them at ours. I guess I'm surprised at how much we've enjoyed it, and ours is pretty little although I made it 4' deep at the end so we could overwinter fish.
Ann-if anyone deserved to put her feet up and read a novel or work on an afghan, or just veg out, it's you. But I bet you keep on going anyway!!
McCool-Well, I'm certainly going to pray for good health for you for three months until your insurance kicks in again, that doesn't seem too much to ask. Sure hope you're on the upswing now, and yes, you owe us a kitty shot I think!!
It's nice out now, but we have a threat of damaging winds and large hail this afternoon (if we get little bitty hail once in five years it's abig deal here, so I doubt this will come true...but then again, nowadays, who knows.)
So i better get out and get some work done
~~~~Have a great day all~~~~~~~
-Morning everyone - typed something, but it floated away!! How in the world does this happen?
Bout time you got your hinney back in here GG...a new TV too - we need one, just haven't gotten around to getting one. It is for my bedroom. I have to have it on to go to sleep. Mine jumps around (would make you sick watching it!!) I just roll over and listen to it. Maybe this fall when I am done gardening we'll look for one. Not priority number one right now.
My sis just got up - we are both in our jammies munching on cookies and DC. Great minds think alike!! LOL We're planning on taking DM shopping for clothes. But Dsis called her and she said she doesn't feel well enough to go (I think it is an excuse...)
Mary - moonlight ride sounds lovely. When you say your Breezy coughs- is it like a human cough to clear his lungs? I've never heard a horse cough! Laughed at Breezy passing the other horses -he has a bit of competitive spirit in him!
Kooger - two services! Yikes...I can sit thru one, but my fanny screams when I try to do more. I continually cross and uncross my legs- just can't seem to get comfortable. Good luck on DS and Kc. It's always something isn't it. Oh well, just think how bored we'd be if we didn't have family to help out!!
My back feels better, but not 100%. My sis made me lay on the floor and she gave me a deep back massage - felt better almost immediately. Plus last night I slept in DH bed with his hard mattress....who knows...all I want is relief!!
Speaking of relief - Darius - how's the tooth doing today?
Dsis wants to talk about our day, so I gotta sign off for now. BBL
Morning! With all the dental problems going around lately I was having synpathy pains yesterday. Which was nothing compared to theirs. So sorry this had to happen when you are so busy.
hope that was a great picture. Sorry about your water.I don't know what all your health problems are. But my friend who has heart problems actually said she got a prescription from her
doctor for Central Air.[She gave her airconditioner to her neighbor who needed one.] I talked to her last week and she said it is also based on your income. She did not have to pay for any of it.
Something to check into for anybody out there with disabilities.
ViAnn this was my first year in 5 or 6 that I grew corn. I think what a last planted was crossing with the field corn because it was not good. So I gave up. I was to cheap to pay 2-3 dollars for a doz. ears. So asked DH to plow me up a plot and till it. Then I spent hours picking out seeds. There are so many new ones. I planted 4 different kinds. Just small plots of each one and staggered the plantings. Would of worked pretty good if the weather had complied. There's always next year. You have fun relaxing and working on your favorite things and stay cool!
cherie with the pond you will definitely see more wild life. I have 2 frogs in mine. The birds come and drink out of one planter[sad thing is a couple have drowned] so I keep a small dish filled with water. So far no more accidents. Even with no plants this year you'll enjoy the sound of the water.
Have to go we atre doing the shopping today and it's going to be a long one. He has to go to some of those guy places for parts and renew his driver's license.
Everybody take care and stay cool.
Good morning all,
Being a holiday, I allowed myself to sleep in a bit. Will work on the garden some more - mostly trimming things back and deadheading. Got quite a bit done yesterday. Not too many more weeds except a few clever ones that disguise themselves as the plants they are next to.
There's about half of a rhubarb coffee cake I made yesterday on the table. Help yourself to some of it.
As we have 11 days before we leave, I've got a number of things to attend to. Need to look at my teaching schedule for next season and update my webpage about it. Gonna raise my rates slightly. And I'm starting to take a look at the dates I'd like the handbell choir to play - about once a month and hopefully not on a Sunday when I have two Ottawa Symphony rehearsals. The sooner I get those dates out to my group the better chance I have that they will be around.
Then there is a filthy house that's been totally ignored since well before the Chamber Music Festival.
I know it will wait, but ...
Twyla - with that kind of heat you probably need to get some salt tablets as well as Dorothy.
Cherie - keep us updated on the pond progress.
McCool - crossing my fingers re DH's health and possibilities for re-employment.
Have a good day everyon. ~~~ to all. BBL
Ann
Woooo foggy as London this morning but it's lifting now. DH agreed to go to the fair with me!! Will wonders never cease? Have to load Olivia into the carrier soon, she's due for her last shot this morning. I'm sure she'll disappear right before we have to go. This should be the end of vet bills for a little while until she goes in for spaying. I almost was tempted to not do a spay, as she is such a pretty girl, but then my DD reminded me of what a siamese in heat sounds like (think Inquisition/torture/shrieking) and I changed my mind.
Ves, we had an old (100 yr.) house some years back, and the basement was stone, leaked like a sieve. When we sold it, the realtor and the prospective buyer came down to check the basement and the buyer asked if the basement leaked. I laughed, and said it sure did, and that's why there were little channels cut into the concrete floor to help the runoff go into a drain that led....who knows where! The realtor almost fainted. But the guy smiled and said, "If you had said it didn't, I would have walked away, all century old houses have leaky basements!" They ended up buying the house, but I don't thlnk the realtor ever recovered. They've done some nice things to that old house, built a big new garage where the stable was, and started a family!
Susan Elaine!! Glad to see you back, and hope your arm is better. Takes a long time for bursitis and such to clear up, I'm finally able to pull up jeans and shorts, etc without too much trouble, although reaching behind is still touchy. And that tumble I took in the garage that caused the rotator cuff tear was almost a year ago!
My DH is home all week again. When he said yesterday he was off all week, I said "AGAIN??" He said I sounded like the people at work.
Kooger, ow on the foot owies! Wasn't bad enough you banged it up, then you got help banging it up some more. Hope the DH heals up soon and can get back to work. In the meantime, stay healthy and don't do anything else to yourself. Kandace and baby K will weigh on your mind if you don't speak to her, so you might as well get it off your chest. That poor baby, I hope you can continue your connection with Kandace so that you can see the little one.
Maria, those were beautiful tomatos. Isn't it good to have all the fresh things out of the garden at this time of year? I have three little egg plants !! I do mean little!! Hope nothing comes along and munches on them. DGS left his pellet rifle here for me, and said I should use it on the rabbits. They are treating my hosta like the salad bar at Ponderosa.
I'm hoping that all who are ailing, or in pain are doing better today. You can lose a lot of potassium out of your system doing nothing at all, it is the perspiration that sucks it out of you. Salt is good, Gatorade is good, potassium tablets are a standby for me to relieve those nighttime leg cramps. Take care all, and seek help!!
Bonnie, we have been so fortunate that everytime we have added a new kitty, the resident furballs have been very agreeable and not territorial. Of course, Mini was quite put out about Sammi, but that's mostly because he used her for wrestling practice. She's fine with him now because he's got Olivia for romping. Souky is another story, she was an "only" cat before we got her, has always been kind of reserved and didn't socialize much with them. Olivia has stirred things up and I've caught Souky several times playing with either Sammi or Olivia...which she pretends she isn't doing. I think she will join the community nap when the weather gets cooler, but it still amazes me when I see her playing after three years of being aloof and shy.
Note in the picture, no poofy tails, just a good chase and capture!!
Have to give a quick ~~~ to everyone because I have to hunt down the little monkey and stuff her in the carrier. If you hear yowling., it's her protesting!!
Have a good day , ttyl
Sheila
Brent and I got a lot accomplished yesterday. More than half the tools moved to in the tool shed, will finish that today and start on the garden shed. He should be here in 10 minutes. Hope to start on the barn storage room today but that probably won't happen until tomorrow.
I'll post some photos on my Out of Limbo thread later today, I hope.
Like dmc, I think I need to start taking potassium again. I notice I've been eating a lot of saltine crackers lately but nothing with potassium so my electrolytes are no doubt out of balance.
~~~ to everyone, BBL
Good morning everybody. DH had to leave early this morning to take a neighbor to Louisville to the Dr, and I rolled over and slept another hour, until the doorbell rang. Was a neighbor informing me that "Rusty" had decided to take a stroll on the road. Rusty is the arthritic pony who was DGD's first "horse". So I had to get dressed and go get the rascal back in. Don't know how he manages to escape, as the pasture he is in has an electric fence and it is on.
Have had my coffee and read the paper, and I am getting ready to go into town to get paint to paint DM's front porch. Need to go to the post office too. I have lima beans to freeze, but that will be a quick and easy job.
Sarv, glad your back is feeling better after the massage. What are your plans today.
M5, I haven't heard any screeching yet. Cats can make the most horrid sounds. I guess they want the neighbors to come investigate the torture they are enduring!!
Viann, glad you got to sleep in a bit, and that it is a holiday there. Are the stores, government offices closed?
ves, keep trying with the corn, one day you will be successful, and oh what a heavenly meal fresh corn. Yuk on doing shopping with DH, and having to go to guy places.
cc, so is the pond already started? I thought DH was just looking at liners.
hope, please take care in this horrible heat, and add some salt to your diet, to replace that which is lost through presperation.
dmc, I certainly hope that you don't get the bad weather forecasted for your area. Remember the forecasters are more often wrong than right. Think they just like to get us agitated once in awhile!
Well, that paint is not going to get bought nor applied if I continue to sit here. So off to do that, and will check in later.
darius, we posted at the same time, hope you have a productive day, and can see the results at the end of the day.
~~ to everybody else.
Phooey! My helper just showed up and he's feeling sick. Don't know how long he can feel like working today but at least he showed up. He told me yesterday that when he went home for lunch, his mother was throwing up. He thought she brought home a bug from the hospital where she works. Today it sounds like he's getting it too.
You can get a lot of potassium out of bananas and kiwis. However, bananas give some folks gas.
I need to pot up some baby hydrangeas that layered on their own for my DD. And I'm giving her 3 of my nandinas. I just don't have a good place for them and they are struggling with too little moisture on top of a bank.
defoe I'm moving plants from under one tree to another today. We have decided on a liner or he has. Its kinda two levels but no waterfall. I have my floating froggie fountain so I guess I can forgo the waterfall for this year any way. Once I get the plants replanted I am going to start the digging . If I don't he'll drag his feet.I f we can get it in within the next couple of weekends I think I'll have a good month or so to enjoy before frost comes in. Hoping hoping hoping. I'm just being lazy right now and lurking. Everyone must have beautiful gardens. I can only hope mine will be the same after they've been for a few years.
I hear movement upstairs and hoping its DS up now. He's giving me a hand today although he hasn't been informed of that yet. and will probably grouse about it But last I heard I am still the boss..LOL Have a great day and will check back periodically. CeCe
Morning All,
Was up and about by 7 a.m.,,,,Ibuprofen wore off so had to swallow another handful. Will be calling the dentist shortly. Depending if and what time he can get me in will determine my day. Have to get some more done outside today.
It was Finally time to cut the grass again. Bill did the trimming and mowing yesterday. Got quite a bit accomplished in the gardens also.
sarv,
Thanks,,,good to see everyone again. Clicker for the TV is on the table, help yourself. Hope you can get DM to go shopping. Sometimes they are so stubborn.
ves,
Thanks,,,sympathy pains are appreciated,,,LOL Great about your friend and the central air. Good luck going shopping with DH,,,,sounds like a bummer to me. Bill doesn't like to shop, so I usually go by myself.
Ann,
Happy Holiday to you. I'm Way behind,,,,so I have to ask, where are you going? I thought you mentioned a trip awhile back, but can't remember where? Was it Japan?
dmc,
How's the big project coming along? Haven't seen any updates for awhile. Sure hope you don't get that predicted weather.
M5,
Never heard that from a cat, but sounds like I wouldn't want to,,,LOL,,,,Spay her,,,,,,
LOL @ the leaky basement guy. I'm sure your realtor is Still talking about that one,,,LOL Good luck with the little stinker. Your pic yesterday with them napping was just precious
Susan Elaine,
So sorry to hear you've not been feeling well. Hope it passes quickly. How long have you been feeling icky? You didn't mention it on the phone.
darius,
HOW can you work like that with that much pain in your mouth? You amaze me woman! I'm a big wuss when it comes to pain. Yours has to be worse than mine, I don't think mine is abscessed yet. Sounds like youve been going great guns with everything! Good for you. Will check your limbo thread later.
Bonnie,
Good luck with the painting.
Well, off to call the Dentist. bbl,
Kelly
Hi again.Am fuming and ready to spiit nails Grrrrrrr DH called on his break and asked did you start moving plants yet? I said no I'm just going out now he said well don't. HiS DB convinced him we were puting it in the wrong place and that it wasn't inviting enough for any one to go out there and sit. Yeah I'll need to get some seating out there but where's his right to interfere. Where did he get his d*&%m landscape desigin degree?
Never had an interfereing BIL before. DH said we'll talk about it when I get home. No darn it I want the pond where I want the pond. Why move 10 plants when I can only move two or three! Over by the garden shed between tree and clothes post would be perfect! Some shade, some sun and more room to dig. I thought about by the house and patio but then it would be tooooooomany trees roots to deal with. DH agreed with ME til BIL came over last night. I start digging any way it will cause a big fight and we haven't had a major disagreement in over a year. Maybe we're due huh?
Must take a cold shower and cool off (temper) before too much longer. bbl Cherie
I'm back, having put together a tentative schedule for 2006-2007 for the handbells. Now we'll see what my group says about it. We'll start off small unless I get some new ringers. The ringer who is doing theological studies (in addition to a full-time job) told me that she will, most likely, be working with another church. She's looking at ordination in 2008 or 2009; so I'm going to lose her anyway, but she's my chief bass bell hog. I have another ringer presently undergoing chemotherapy for a uterine cancer. She hopes to be back with us before Christmas, but one never knows. and I have one ringer who has moved out of town. She'll be back in Oct. to get married and we tentatively plan to play at her wedding, but she'll not be moving back to Ottawa. Maybe I can pursuade some of the older kids in the chime choir to join the bells.
Sheila - I hadn't realized that you had a rotator cuff tear too. I don't believe they ever heal completely w/o surgery, though if not too serious, they can be overcome. Mine doesn't bother me much but sometimes burns a bit when I do aquafit. Then I start doing one handed exercises for awhile. That's why I quit real swimming - I decided I was never going to be able to do 40 lengths of the pool again. Aquafit allows me to use it when it feels good and lay back when it doesn't. Love your photos of your cats.
Darius - how's the tooth? If you've got an abcess, go get it looked after. Glad you got a lot done yesterday. Stay away from your guy today if he's developing a stomach flu. You don't need to catch that.
Bonnie - yes, this is a REAL holiday. Most stores and all government and banks are closed. You'll find that some of the stores in the downtown are open - necessary services for tourists.
Kelly, hope you get to the dentist. More on the trip later. Need to get into the garden.
Ann
McCool... vodka is a wonderful antidote for pain. Take internally. This particular tooth has abcessed at least twice before and I always try to keep some antibiotics on hand. It has an encapsulated pocket underneath that flares up. I hate to have it pulled as it's my only chewing surface on that side. I've lost all my lower molars even after extensive root canals and caps, I just have lousy roots. Comes from poor water and not much milk during WWII when I was small.
Kelly, hope you get a dental appt. I lived on handfuls of aspirin and ibuprophen with all my molar problems, screaming and banging my head all the time.
Cherie, use your own intuition for the pond!
dmc, I only got the 7.5 liter crocks. That's enough pickles for me. I hope to start either some carrots or maybe sauerkraut soon in the other one.
CHERIE----- Maybe he has had some experience with that plant. I would not sell him short till you know the whole story.
For all who have listened to me talk about the Chamber Music Festival the last two weeks, maybe you'd like to look at these photos which were taken by a local photo club. You can click on each date for more pics.

Ann
Hi all
Well, it's hot and steamy here today. sure thought we were going to get some rain yesterday but never did. It feels like a jungle here with the humidity so high you could cut it.
Kelly, so glad to see you checking in but sorry to hear you're having tooth pain. Wish we lived closer ... I'd loan you a t.v. Have a little one I don't watch much anymore since DG. :-)
Ann, hope you are able to find the people you need for your hand bell choir. Have you had a chance to use the bow you purchased for your violin? I was just thinking about that the other day. :-)
Maria ... so what did you decide to do with your zucchini? Those veggies sure sounded good.
Defoe, So Rusty has been up to his antics again? LOL Now how does that horse manage that? You be careful in that heat painting.
Meezers, hope the vet visit goes ok and you have a good time at the fair.
dmc, sure hope you don't get any *bad weather. Rain if you need it, though.
Cece hope things work out with your pond. Maybe if you let him have his say this evening? Sometimes when mine gets locked in on an idea, I listen to him to be sure that there's not a *good reason why he has chosen to do a thing that way ... and if not ... then I suggest my way in such a way that he thinks it was his idea. Maybe that would work? ;-)
McCool I'm still remembering you and your DH and hoping things will work out for the 2 of you.
Well, today is Monday and you *know what that means so I'll just wave to those I've missed for now. To those who are feeling bad, I hope you feel better soon.
~~~ Elaine
Have a couple of minutes before I go spread the grass clipping from the neighbour's lawn (she's away and we mowed) into my garden. They make a great mulch. One of these days, I'll buy a mulching mower (or convert most of my lawn to hostas and buy a hand push mower). Meanwhile, I put the clippings in the gardens - not around the hostas, but around my tomato plants and beans and at the edge of my flowers. I can get in the garden and walk on the dried clippings quite nicely. Could compost them, but prefer to mulch them.
Elaine, I've used the viola bow when I played in church two weeks ago. For the last two weeks I've just been listening to music.
Ann
Went and took a bath to let calgon take me away. Didn't take me far enough.
Ozarkian he hasn't a single plant in his yard. He rents and has never put a pond in. I had a gentleman from Waterscapes out this past spring and he told me were I wanted to put it was the perfect spot and gave very good reasons the major one to me being that the garden shed already had a grounded outlet put on the outside. He wanted 5 grand and hubby wouldn't even discuss. BIL thinks he knows a lot about everything and it never bothered me til now. He's interfereing in my life now.
101 That was what I was going to do. Put the plant moving on hold til we discuss. I have always been one not to sweat the small stuff. I'll hear his reasons out and if they are good ones I just let it be. I'm getting a pond after all but if I really have a problem with it I will point out to him that that will be extra money for an electrician............
CeCe we all have a relative like that.. if you were told best place maybe its so..unless your bil is a landscaper.??hope you get it in where you want it.relatives should not interfere.
Dmcd.. we have to stay and be positive or we would give up, i have had to fight all my life to survive things.. being positive helps... oh i have bad days to but try not to, they just creep in.. when i got cancer first no second time .i said no way i can beat this still fighting.. Attitude is the most important...lol.. sermon over....sorry....
Darius hope get tooth out . my roots go to china why have hard time pulling mine.
I have to take a prescrip. potasium every day like horse pill..
Everyone have great day take care...
Twyla ~~~~~~~~ did not go sorry.. picture..
Okay, in for a lunch break. Got the lima beans frozen, 6 pints, went to town and bought the paint, and came in and painted the porch. It is now drying, then home when DH got back from Louisville, helped him cut up tomatoes to take to DMIL's to can juice. I am gonna clean the pool in a bit, but first...
Okay, can I add my list of injuries to this disabled list? I have pulled a muscle in the back of one leg, and a vein ruptured in the other. Now how in the heck am I supposed to do anything with 2 injured legs? Don't know what I did to pull the mucsle,then the other just starts hurting, and I look down, and a huge knot right above my ankle, with the vein all blue, and buldging. Now this is all I need varicose veins to go with my wrinkles, love handles, downward gravity of upper regions. Waaa, my body is failing me!!
cc, hear DH out tonight, then the point about an electrician is a good one. M5 and I both have BIL's who M5 named, Bother in Law, and I have borrowed it to apply to one of mine. Mine is a pain in the sit down.
Darius sorry about the worker feeling ill. It may be bettter that he did go home, so he won't infect you with whatever he may have.
Viann, I am saving that link for later tonight when I have more time. I'm sure that it will be good "looking".
I01, yes Rusty usually pulls his Houdini trick when DH is away, then he is so obstinate, that it takes me forever to get him back where he belongs. He just stands and looks at me, and he thinks when I take hold of his halter, that it is a tug of war, me pulling one way, him another. Finally had to get behind him, and give him a swift kick, hoping all the time he didn't decide to kick back!. He didn't, but didn't make him move any faster.
Well, gotta go, as there are other jobs calling my name, and I fear that if I delay, I will have a roar going on here, and I don't want to disturb the neighbors.
BBL
No BIL is no landscaper he's a welder. He just watches those programs on sat & sun on HGTV and thinks he knows all there is to know. The prefessional gave me the reasons of part sun part shade will help keep algae down to a minimum. They could build up the back for the waterfall with excavated soil and not having it est up against a wall, electricity already in, etc.
BIL insisted to me yesterday that I need paths of ganite or limestones to my gardens a pond would look funny there. I just came in the house so as not to argue. After all he is DH brother. DH is the oldest of 13 so I knew there was bound to be one or two that I would avoid. Since DH and I got married 7 months ago certain DSIL & DBIL suddenly decide they know what is best for me. I'm trying to not sweat it I have a DB of my own that I have a hard time dealing with...........but ooooooooooo. Must go do something else instead of lurking and thinking about it. Just wait til DH is home another mere5 hours. Bye all. Will let you know what final decision is. I will say if it turns out to be right here or no pond. It will go where he wants to put it. He'll just have to get his DB to pay the electician.
I have been trying to at least read the posts daily. My hats off to anyone on dial up. I really didn't remember how time consuming it was.
Darius, have you tried calling your pulm dr and asking for an antibiotic presciption??? Just a thought. The dentist wont do anything but write the prescription and set you another apointment for a couple weeks later.
I feel for all of you suffering through the 100+ temps. Heat is a miserable thing to deal with especially when you are not use to it. I hope it cools down for you all soon.
Vann, I love the infomation in your Good Morning Posts. Thanks for researching and giving it to us. I hope this week you are planning for some relaxation. I am ready for a vacation from just reading about all your activities and I was sitting down for them all. You are an amazing woman. Thx also for the rubarb pie. One of my favorites. Oh I Loved the pictures on the link.
Cece, congrats on the progress of the pond. I started prepping my DH a few months ago for my pond in SC. Hopefully by next year after we have moved he will be so tired of listening to me about it he will build it to hush me up. Thats the plan at least. LOL
DMC, I am glad that you are feeling better now that you know the cause of your symptoms. I have to take potassium pills every morning with the water pills they have me on. I never knew that salt tablets contained enough potassium to be helpful either. I hope the winds and hail that are slated for your area miss you. We seldom get hail here but when we do they are large ones and do some major damage.
McCool, glad DH is feeling better, I hope that he is able to get back to work soon. He is lucky that they are willing to hire him back. Most companies would just turn their back on a health problem risk.
Mary, I am jealous of your romantic ride. I didn't realize how much fun horseback riding was until we went a few times while I was in SC. It is very relaxing and can be very entertaining if you take my DBF with you. I should note that it was not as relaxing the day after when I was walking with a strange limp, but still worth it.
Sarv, I am glad that your back is feeling better thanks to your sisters backrub. My mom hated clothes shopping also. She would create some of the most out landish stories to try and get out of it. Shoe shopping was worse. I eventually learned to go to the store and purchase 10 pairs of shoes in her size, take them home and let her pick what she wanted and then take the others back. It was a large initial expense, and a real pain but it was easier then arguing with her and having us both upset.
Kooger, please be careful, and I hope that your foot and toes are feeling better soon.
I agree with Ves, both Darius and Hope should check into the presciption for the central air. My mom also received a prescription for a gas generator for her to use if the power went out. (Very common here during the summer storms) If she was to get to hot it would seriously effect her breathing. The generator was a small one but it was strong enough to run the small portable swamp cooler she already owned, and later she was able to run her oxygen machine on it at the same time. Secure Horizon/Medicare is who mom was with if that helps anyone.
Meezer I hope you have a blast at the fair with DH. Mine would only take me to help control the damage to his wallet. LOL My old man kitty screams like that if he wants something and is not getting the proper attention he believes he deserves. I had a neighbor house sitting/Kitty sitting a few years back and he decided that he needed to be loved on. Scared her so bad that she picked him up, fought with him to get into a carrier and took him to the vet. Now when she watches the house for us, she takes him over to her house and loves on him constantly so he wont feel the need to do that again.
GG, it was great reading about your goings on. Glad that you checked in. I hope the dentist is able to relieve your dental pain.
Defoe, animals have always amazed me with their escape methods. I have been lucky so far, but have heard of some real escape artists. Glad you got him back in his pasture before he was hurt. Have fun with painting moms porch.
I have to get off my butt here, get home and start prepping the walls in one of the bedrooms so I can prime it. Then DH gets to slick it out with mud. We took down the grey paneling that was put up 20 some years ago. The room was so dark and dismal. Then texture, paint and new carpet. Once that one is done we will move on to the next room.
Received an apology letter from the cable company telling us that our bill will only be 50% because of the problems. They are hoping to have us back up and running by Wednesday. I hope so, DFIL comes home on Thursday and I wont be able to come over and read in peace.
Waves to all that I missed, ~~~~~~~. Take care everyone.
Hi everyone. A little more on the potassium sources, an 8oz glass of V8 juice has 13% of the daily recommended allowance, and potatoes also have a fair amount.
We got another big load of hay today. This afternoon I need to help the neighbor move some cattle to a fresh pasture, need to take a good walk with Fritz before it gets hotter, and also ride Patch and change some sprinklers and pull a bunch of weeds, so I'd better get moving. Back later. ~~~ to everyone.
Carat that was my plan too, this is the third summer I've been talking about it One would think that I'm ingrate for putting up such a stink about its location.I didn't go into this thought without research. I even had a professional pond instalator come in with his advice and opinions. Thats why it burns me that DBIL could talk DH so easily into a complete different location.
M5 can I use your bother in law too?
I thought I sent something else this afternoon. It's not here - maybe I just previewed it. Can't remember what I said. I guess nothing important. Have just finished in the yard. The compost if filled to overflowing. Need to wait and let it settle some before doing more. Cut back lots of stuff and dead-headed. Need to head to the bath tub for a good soak.
Bonnie, take those injuries as a sign to sit back and enjoy life for a few days.
Re potassium - if you eat fruit and fruit juice - like orange juice, almonds, etc. you probably get enough in your diet. But severe hot weather might call for more. I tend to think you are more likely to need a bit more sodium than usual in the hot weather and we're all so diet conscious these days that many of us are not using as much salt in our food as we used to.
Kelly asked about my trip. We leave on the 18th and go to Vancouver. Go immediately with DD and her fiancé, DH's cousin and DH's aunt to Portland, OR for the 90th birthday of DH's other aunt. Then back to Vancouver where we hang out for a week. Then on the 25th, to Sapporro, Japan. Back to Ottawa for the 3rd of September.
Gotta get that bath. BBL
Ann
Sounds like a great trip, Ann!
Hi everyone- just got back from dragging DM shopping. First when we called her she said she wasn't feeling well enough to go. I called her back and told her we were coming, would get a wheel chair for her to ride in, but she WAS going. We went there and she was just fine. Took her to three different places - we finally talked her into two blouses and one t-type shirt. My Dsis and I each paid for one blouse and we let her pay for the other shirt.
While we were at DM house, she hauled out all her old linens and Dsis and I divided them up. We both were very civilized and didn't spat over any of them. There was one white table cloth that I really wanted, but so did Dsis. I gave in with the agreement that it would come to me if she 'leaves' first! I am so happy that we didn't end up fighting...
Did everyone hear about the gas prices??? Yikes! I just filled up for 3.14 a gal. But I drove all day today and am taking DM and Dsis up to our aunt's house tomorrow. Oh well...
Well, we're off to go visit DIL and DGS (and get ice cream!! Yahoo)
BBL
Sounds like a good agreement on the linens, Sarv.
Brent and I got a lot more organizing done today in the tool shed and the gardening shed. Actually it is just one shed, with a wall between the sections. The gardening shed end is falling into the ground so I only expect to use it until next spring. Had to put 2 -1/2 inches of boards across the floor to level some plywood for 2 shelf units. With it falling into the ground, there is a 2+ inch gap in the metal roofing!
We actually emptied and then trashed about a dozen boxes today! Yippee... only a zillion more to go.
Bite by bite we are eating this elephant.
I nuked some leftover Chinese food for dinner, brought it to the porch so I could listen to the radio news. Promptly spilled almost all of it on the decking. Arrrrggg. So now I have frozen food cooking in the oven. Yuck.
Okay, I did a multitude of indoor jobs this afternoon, as it was so blasted hot out. Never did get that pool vacuumed, so maybe afterwhile. About dark I have to go out and prepare a bed for iris that came in the mail today. It will be a small bed, as I only have 11 or 12 rizomes. Supper was fresh veggies. DH helped can tomato juice for his mother this afternoon, 24 quarts. This is something I have never seen him do, and didn't volunteer to help and watch. Was afraid that watch would turn to help, and he would abandon me.
cece, don't fret about the pond, if he has gotten as far as he has in this plan, when you explain about the electricity, he probably will go with your plan. Tell him that to have the electricity hooked up to my pool, and they only had to run wire about 10 feet, cost $350.00. So it is not cheap.
Sarv, good show on the shopping, and dividing the linens. No need to fight over such things. Why don't you all make a deal to keep that 1 tablecloth for a certain period of time, then let the other use it for a period of time? Don't tell me any bad news about gas prices. I put gas in DH truck today, and it was $2.99. I know compared to your's that's a bargain, but it probably won't stay that price for long.
Carat, dial up is the pits, but for now that is all I can get. I get so frustrated at times, that I could just demolish the computer, but then realize it isn't it's fault. Sounds like you are doing good on the house. Give us an update of your DH, or since you may have your service back Wednesday, just wait until you have a faster connection, but we are still interested.
Gotta go do some more paperwork till it cools down, then out to DM's to do her weeding, and then to do that iris bed. I think the pool job will be the last thing, as by then, I surely will need that cool off. Both legs hurting, but afraid to sit, for fear that I can't get up. McCool called my herb friend, and she didn't have any aranica, any suggestions where I could get it?
Back later.
Bonnie, arnica is readily available online. Most health food stores also carry it. Good stuff!
Thanks Darius, I will check it out right now. McCool, thanks for telling me about it in the first place. I don't think that the vein is gonna be a big deal, I have had ice on it this afternoon off an on, and it isn't hurting, and doesn't look too bruised.
darius, you are playing with fire with that abscessed tooth. Did you know an abscess tooth can kill you? Infection can spread to sinuses and brain. You're going to have to get it pulled and then sometime down the road you can consider a denture.
Don't keep putting this off; there is no saving that tooth.
Hello Everybody,
Been home from shopping for awhile. I didn't spend much of his money but he did on parts for the dozer. I did find a chair for $1 at the thrift store for outside deco. I might have to paint it even though it is done in sage and cream. I t doesn't fit with the rest of the stuff. I'll have to think on it. The best part of the day was he decided on his own for us to have lunch at Red Lobster!!!!! It's a miracle!!!!! My Shrimp Scampi was delicious. That's my favorite seafood. Garlic cheddar biscuits are nothing to sneeze at either.
There was a table of 3 ladies sitting behind us and yes we were listening to them. Hey they talk that loud it's fair game! Anyway they were talking about how cute our waiter was. It was fun to hear and the truth! He was very friendly and cute!! The service was also excellent!
That kind of shopping is worse then an all day ladies shopping trip. While waiting for him I did get half a book read. He wants me to go next monday with him to pick up his parts. Maybe I'll of recouperated by then!! Maybe Olive Garden for lunch that day? How does that sound?
cherie how did the talk go?I have a BIL like that also. Where do they all come from?? I'm voting on your spot. If a professional says it's perfect who are we to argue. Another sitting place is always good to have. 1 for the men and 1 for the women.HaHaHa!!
Well I didn't take notes when I did my reading . I know Everybody was busy.not feeling good or chasing down animals. Hope everybodys day worked out the way they wanted or close to it.
I just checked the gas prices for Baker City, $3.10 down to $3.06. Diesel is more, $3.26 to $3.36.
It's 94 here today.Breezy and I helped my neighbor move cattle and some sheep, decided to ride Patch in the morning before it gets hot since tomorrow looks just the same. My neighbor is going to his sister's funeral in California tomorrow and will be back Thursday evening, so I am watching his critters. I picked up a pickup load of broken hay bales out of his fields this morning, it's still in the truck, probably until after the sun goes down.
I can remember taking my MIL shopping. What a pain. I hate to shop anyhow and she had to see everything, try on all kinds of things and then when she would buy something the next day she wanted to take it back because it made her look fat. Well, she was fat so what did she expect?
Sprinkler needs moving again, it's watering the sidewalk and hubby will be home in a few minutes. I've also got to get the BBQ going, we are having brots and probably a big green salad, and maybe some fried summer squash and sliced tomatoes. Back later.
Still waiting for our discussion. My DGB just left about half hour ago and DH is on tread mill (he gained 5# and is having a fit). I ws able to ask him why he let his DB talk to me like I was idiot. (Iguess thats where I was really mad) He siad DB has always thought he knew it all and it was easier to just let him talk. After the tread mill business is over I want to find out why all of a sudden the first place we agreed is now out. I don't want to sound selfish but I may get what I want yet.
Its not like I haven't researched this whole thing. Four years even before we bought the place I've wanted a pond and researched and read and talked to professionals. I'm not stupid.
Okay I'll leave the whoe pond thing alone now because there's no sense beating a dead horse. Its gonna happen as it happens.
yes Darius get that abcess taken care of. It can lead to septicemia which is a blood infection. Pleasedon't take the chance of that happening. That can lead to so much more...... Promise to have it looked into??????? Please?
