Maria,
With that beautiful pathway of flowers at Ernie's I can't understand how you ever even left his property to sightsee. His gardens are just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your photos.
Molly
:^)))
Coffee and ... for Wednesday, August 2
lol Molly, I already told them if I should make another visit I just want to stay at their home and gardens
darius-That's a beautiful sight on a day like today!!
dmc, it has already cooled down to 87º in the house. Yippee! I can live with 80º or a little higher once it gets acclimated.
Yeah Darius! That will be sooo nice for you in this awful heat. Gracie will probably be back as soon as all the commotion settles down.
M5 - Like the "do" Looks very easy and comfortable.
Somermoon - That was so nice of you and your niece to donate your hair. Have fun camping.
Thanks for the snow pictures, I feel cooler already. It's 97 here with a heat index of 108. Alaska is sounding pretty good right about now. The office isn't even cool this afternoon and most days it's like an icebox.
ViAnn - The concerts sound loveley. Hope it's not too hot when you go tomorrow.
Maria, the pictures form Ernies are so pretty. My gardens look pitiful compared to those.
Twyla - Sitting at Wal-Mart watching people can be very entertaining. Hope you get cooled off and feel better.
Sarv - I hate to clean anytime, but summer is the worst! I feel like a blob when it's this hot. That was great getting the free drinks!
Molly - Hope you are feeling better!
I't so hot that my Mandy cat doesn't even want to be outside. She goes out and look at me as if to say "forget this!" and runs back in the door. Izzy usually likes to sit in a window, but with the heat she has taken to laying on the cool linoleum.
The veggie garden looks so bad right now I'd just like to mow it off. Weeds have gotten way out of control. Maybe I can spruce it up a little this weekend.
~~~~~ to everyone.
Ernie's pie cherries and Raineers were great!
I'm so sorry you are all soooo hot!!! There weather on the Oregon coast is suppose to be cooler for our camping trip....high 60s..of course there will be wind so DH will love flying his kite.
Mary~ Weird thing about the whole break in.....Never even took the wallet sitting on the buffet on his way out the door. Took a couple old gun parts and a BB Gun...dropped it outside...that's what woke up cousin who has travel trailer outside garage. Crazy!
My nephew just found a snake outside!!! Small (really small) gardener but still....My gardening days are close to over....I can't do snakes......the neighbor lady graceously and willingly took it for her garden....I'll keep my bugs!!! She lives up the alley so hopefully it won't make it's way back!
55 inches!! I'm only 63" tall!!!
Kathy~ Wow! your hair does grow fast...mine use to be so thick I couldn't put in the clips...it's really thin now...not bad but not what it use to be.
In order to keep cool with my long hair I would keep it in the two braids at the side. It was the coolest way I found. I can't stand my neck to be hot, so would keep it up in a pony, wrap it in a bun and chop stick it through. It was still heavy on my head and the braids were much cooler. I have the Pocahontas nickname with my olive skin and browning so much in the summer.
Oops.... put think instead of thick...could understand myself! Dave needs spell check:)
Maria, You went to see Ernie? I am envious. Ernie, I finally get to see a picture of you and you look like a teddy bear, I want to give you a big hug :) Ernie has wonderful onions...so he says, but I know where he gets them from...yum.
Love the pictures.
That does it, I'm going to have to go and visit Ernie now!
happy Day,
Kathy
Ah, Ernie's gardens do sound like such a little piece of heaven. Now Maria aren't you the lucky one. First our Defoe and now those gorgeous gardens. I am so happy for you! :-)
It's hot here today also. Watered early this a.m. and will have to do it again late tonight. My tomatoes are just about played out now. The cucs are gone, but I do have new baby plants. Maybe they will produce for me. My herbs are just barely living and my scenteds are suffering also. The salvia are blooming their little heads off, though.
Hope everyone that's feeling bla gets better soon and y'all stay cool. Am waving at everyone for now.
I went to town to take a package to the post office. Well, ya know with gas prices ya can't waste that trip.
I stopped at the HD and picked up 3 five gallon buckets of the cheapest white exterior paint they had. Jeremy has assured me he will start painting the roof tomorrow. I can hardly wait and if I am feeling a little more steady, I will get up and paint the vents and pipes to help out.
We went down to the seafood and veggie stand in Bronson just now to get dinner. They had a special running on trigger fish. Bought a pound for dinner. Never had that before, she said it's a very firm white fish.
I also got a couple crab rolls and a special sea scallop dish imported from Tampa. It sounded so good I had to have a couple of them too. But I won't eat them all tonight.
I think I have some lettuce, bell pepper and cuke in the fridge and I am positive there are huskey and everglades tomatos on the vines right now, ready to eat.
Still have a bit of the fever, but taken another motrin to help that.
BBL
Molly
How did you get to go cross-country to see him? Ernie, you better keep the guest room open; after all these pictures, you're bound to have high traffic visiting soon.
:) Kathy
Maria wonderful pictures and beautiful plants... His dogs are to...
Molly hope you are feeling better soon..
yes you can see some interesting people at wal -marts...was cool.. then i just got so tired i had to come home..
Take care everyone..
Misty, we are old friends just hopped a plane and it flew me to WA
Ernie's garden makes me want to get out the weed whacker and start all over.
Well, I am winding down for the night. Don't know how comfortable I shall be, as the HVAC guys said I need to leave the unit on for 24 hours. I may need 2 blankets! The thermostat is set at 78º but nothing is running at this time. Don't know the outside temperature but it feels like a sauna when I go outside.
I didn't go to town, had cereal for supper, LOL.
Gracie came home to eat supper so I'm assuming I can catch and cage her Friday for the Vet visit. She has to be NPO after midnight.
Mike the yard man came late today, and I had to tell him we are now growing hay rather than having a mowed yard. We had a lovely visit for over an hour and I think he understands that it is not personal.
Nite, nite, All!
Good evening all,
Maria, thanks for all the lovely pictures of your trip. I'm glad that you had such a great time. Guess you should have pushed it forward a week or so though so that you could have missed the horrible weather we've been having for the past few days! All of us here were extremely grateful when the thunderstorm went through and the temperature dropped a good 15 or 20 degrees today I never thought that I'd consider temps in the 80's to be "cool", but compared to what we had before, it sure was a relief.
Molly, sure hope that you get rid of the last vestiges of that bug by tomorrow. Sorry that the job situation hasn't been brighter. Would the HD or any other local paint place put your cards out for customers? Do you have a website up? I'm paying Yahoo $6.0 0 and change per month to be on their local listings for my area. I don't know if something like that might work for you.
Somermoone, so good of you to donate your hair. I keep thinking I should do it, but am too chicken to have it all cut off. During the summer I put it into two braids, then wrap them around my head. Ponytail is okay for cooler weather. I just about never wear it down anymore (way too old), but I still can't quite manage to have it all chopped off (for one thing, couldn't afford all those haircuts to keep it short!)
I01, has your Moonflower blossomed yet? I hope that your later plantings bear plenty of produce for you. How is your arm doing now?
darius, three cheers for water AND air conditioning! I hope that Gracie comes back tonight or tomorrow and hasn't been too badly frightened by all the goings on at your place.
sarv, I'm another charter member of the "messy house until I croak" club! There are just too many other things to do first and "later" tends to mean "never" when you get right down to it.
For those of you who have been following the saga of D.K. the kitten, she has discovered the "Wonderful World of Insects" and has taken to staring longingly at the ceiling and going spastic trying to reach the same altitudes as the moths and other visitors from the insect realm. She even shimmied up a rail at the stair landing and got up on the banister, only to discover that she was still too short.
Twyla, glad that you got out and missed the worst of the heat today. It was brutal over so much of the country.
Hi 9kitty! How are things going with you these days? We don't have the pleasure of your company very often any more.
M5, glad that your perm worked out so well. I just can't stand the smell of those chemicals! I had a perm once and it was once too many times!
Hi to cece, Misty, suzieq, Bonnie, V-ann, ves, dmcd, Mary, all our absent friends, and anyone that I inadvertantly skipped. Here's wishing you all a wonderful night's sleep.
Hi folks,
In from the evening concert. The 5 pm concert was longer than usual with an intermission and I had to skip out before the last section of the final piece in order to grab a Subway sandwich and be back to work at the next concert. Then it started (about 7) to rain and has been raining hard ever since. I sat in my car for 10 minutes listening to the radio and watching the rain sheet over the edge of the eavestroughing when I got home. Really fun concert this evening - the Chris Norman Ensemble with guest violinist (fiddler) David Greenberg. They probably do more of the Folk Festival circuit than chamber music; so they made a nice change from the usual. http://www.chrisnorman.com/index.html
I recommend them if they come to a location near you. The concert was entitled the "Piper in the Pantry" and was composed of various traditional tunes that were some kind of food or beverage related in name.
I hadn't been in the house more than 10 minutes when DD#2 called from my sister's house in Alaska to say that she and Mark got engaged. Yahoo! No wedding plans yet. But we'll see them in a couple of weeks; so we'll see what they are thinking.
I've peeked at the messages above, but can't honestly say I've read them carefully. Need to get the thread for tomorrow up before another storm rolls through. So have a good night everyone.
Ann
OK folks,
when it gets to be Thursday in your neck of the woods wander on over to http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/634950/ and join us.
I haven't vanished today, just busy, have read everything, and am just now ready to do a little commenting.
Maria the pictures are just gorgeous, might have to plan a trip west just to see that scenery for myself.
Viann, hope you didn't get too hot with the concerts today. I know that you have enjoyed them, but I bet you will be glad to have other things to do when they are over.
Darius, good for you, AC, and water too. Now you can do all your canning and preserving in cooler climes. Hope you can corral Gracie long enough to get her to the vet. I can't wait to hear the verdict about the pregnancy.
Molly, gosh all that seafood sounds good. When I read it was glad when I got to the part that it all wasn't to be eaten tonight!. I'm thinking they are gonna be 2 full people.
Misty, are you feeling better? Hope that if it is gallbladder, that it doesn't act up again any time soon.
M5, laughed about looking the DH over to see where the string was!! That is just too funny, gonna borrow that line to use on my DH as they seem to have the same kind of problem.
Who said that the heat was making them inelegant. At my best, I am no where near elegant, although I can clean up pretty good, but in this weather, there ain't no way to be elegant. I am not one of the "dainty little things" that prespire, I sweat buckets.
ves, glad you got rain and cooler temps.
sommermoone, the camping trip sounds wonderful, I take it with all the fancy equipment you have, it isn't roughing it.
Sarv, great shopping today. I would like to have just one day that I could head to the city, without a Dr. appointment or anything, and just shop, and look around.
I01, glad we had a good chat this afternoon. Hope if you are planning a late garden, that it does well.
hope, glad that you got to sit and people watch at Walmart today, and cool off some. Is your headache gone? You take care in this heat, don't want you getting sick from it.
Well, I had grocery/errand day today. I am shopping for me, DM, and DMIL, and believe me, it is a marathon trying to read 3 lists, get the items, and try to keep them separate in the cart. I had the neatest bagger today. She knew I had 3 orders, and she tied the bags to one order, left one order untied, and double bagged and tied the 3rd order, so that it would help me separate things when I got home. I gave her a tip, as that sure is a help.
Well, tomorrow is the day that I was supposed to have DM's church group here for a fish fry, outside. Made an executive decision yesterday afternoon, and it is going to be held at her church inside. All of the members are in their 80's and I could just see prostrate bodies all over my yard from the heat. So we will be dining in the AC church fellowship hall. So my tomorrow will be busy getting ready for that.
Well, gonna go check some other forums before I head to bed. If I missed anyone, (and I probably did) no offense meant, and hope none taken. I am ~~~~to you, and hope you all have a good night's rest.
Bonnie - 3 of the 4 concerts I got to today were in the venue with AC and the 4th is attached to an office building with AC. The church demolished it's Sunday School wing and built an office building some years ago. They have one floor with a reception hall and offices which have AC now and the rest is leased which provides income to maintain the historic downtown church. Anyway, if you sit at the south end of the ssanctuary and the doors are left open, a certain amount of cool air from the area with AC gets pushed into the sanctuary. Now tomorrow, that's another story. I hope the rain will signal cooler temps.
Ann
