Coffee and ... for Wednesday, August 2 - We came from: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/633919/#new

August 2 is the 214th day of the year in the Gregorian Calendar, with 151 days remaining.

Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee. Maybe someone will offer cyber treats. If you're lurking, we invite you to join us and tell us what you plan to do on this 214th day of the year.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, it is past midnight, and I am still sitting here reading, and catching up.

My day was sort of relaxed. I made 8 pints on sweet pickles, and just puttered around until the sun went down, and then I went out and chopped/pulled weeds from my dayliliy garden. Then it was in the pool to cool off, and then shower and here I am.

Can't remember much of the chat today, but I do want to say to M5, NO YOU ARE NOT MOVING, AND I KNOW WHERE TO FIND YOU. Since you got such a kick out of Mr. B's love life, I surely want to reward you with one of his offspring. The puppies if like either of the parents will be "laid back" and probably be a help to entertaining your "crew". Mr. B, loves cats, and would play with them. Although he will be the first one at "their" food dish!! Seriously, your hair looks great. Wish mine would withstand a perm, would make it so much easier to deal with, but alas everytime I have had a perm, I come out looking like a Brillo pad, that has had much use.

Darius, so glad that the work on the AC is moving well. Hopefully this time tomorrow night, you will be cooler.

Viann, sounds like you had a busy day, as usual. Hope that your haircut turns out okay.

dmc, Mary, as to horses in the heat. Ours stay out during the morning, and graze, but head to the barn for the afternoon hours, and out again about dusk. Seems like if left on their own, they know when to get indoors.

Molly, and Misty, sure hope that you are both feeling much better tomorrow. Sickness, anytime is bad, but doublelly so in this heat. Molly what are your temps like?

Hope, if it is that hot where you live, please consider going someplace for a part of the day with AC. These bodies can't take it like we used to.

I01, glad to see you back. Missed you this weekend, but I know catching up with DH was the first priority. Hope you get good news from the Dr., and the PT is progressing more rapidly than anticipated.

To all others whom I have not addressed, I am ~~~ frantically, as brain cells have just told me it is too late, and they refuse to work any more tonight.

I am posting a pic, taken earlier in the day. Hope I make all of you envious!!

Good night.

Ha! I'm first today. Actually, can't sleep. Aggravation. DH's brother called and wants him to come down and help him with some car repairs or some such. When he came to bed I pulled back the covers and checked him all over. He said "What are you doing?" I told him I was looking for the string that his brother pulls to make him jump, so maybe I could use it.

Bonnie, the girl used those big foam things that look like pool toys as even the largest rollers they use for perms give me Brillo hair. I'm pretty sure they all have them, but maybe dont use them for perms much. I was pretty unsure of how it was going to turn out but I was prepared to be disappointed.

My DS is stopping by here the end of the month and I'm mulling over the possibility of driving back to N.C. with her, with me following her in my car,as I haven't seen their new house or my nieces and nephews for a long while. One is in Hotlanta, GA but that would just be a jog south on my way back. And DH will be home on vacation that week. Her DH will still be up at the lake house, which would be a plus.

Made a box cake for dessert, supposed to be a hot fudge type but I think it's a dud. The cake is dense, but not moist. We ate it anyway. The rest is on the counter for you brave souls who don't mind tasteless calories. The other one in the cupboard can go in the next food drive.

I hope this hot spell breaks soon, they are predicting storms tomorrow and high winds, rain, etc. so we may be getting moderate temps by Thursday.

I'm all out of things to say, so I guess I'll try the sleep thing and see if it works this time. I hate nights like this. Night Gracie......

Hmmm my clock says 12:53, but Dave's clock says other wise. So maybe I'm just the last one to post!

M5~ Looks great!

Maria~ Weird seeing my back yard on here from someone across the states:) YOu took some gorgeous pics. PS...I was looking at your pics saying, "Wait! I have that one and that one!" Take care, K~

Off to do another coat of paper on Dede Dodo. I'll send a pic when I'm done. One of the twins came in tonight and said, "Hey! Aunt Karen, it looks like a dodo." Well go figure...DH and I may have been able to pull the dodo off.
Helped DA/DU pick and weed today....got our list down for family reunion at Nahalem Bay, OR.....Went with DM/D to GI Joes to get the big two burner cook stove with the huge cast iron griddle. I'm so excited to cook breakfast, then Fajitas on it. DM gets to do the seasoning of the grill....better her than me.
DH and I just got an additional birthdate! While at GI Joe's DM wanted to buy a larger tent....DD said...you don't need it....I'm not sleeping in no tent...DM said I want a tent I'm buying it...DD said we have a camper....DM said it's for Karen and Dave for their birthdays...they need a bigger tent.....I'm just standing there waiting to see who will win when the announcement of my new birthday pops up....Hey! That's right!, I said...Today is August 1st and it's Dave and I's birthday ( We have Dec and Jan BDates)...DD looks at DM and says there must be something better than than that tent. Well hey DD let's go look.....DD has to check it all out to make sure it's good enough.....and not have to pay the price of a new home. So DH and I have a new 8 man tent....... (we are tenters, although I feel it now...fibromyalgia doesn't like the tents much...oh well!).....I did remind DD that just because DM gave DH and I addition BDays they ARE additional. Since we all camp together my DSinL and I have our new stove (even though it's the parent's)....we were just saying how we should go together and get it when my DM calls and says hey! D just gave me the money to go buy the stove set-up like cousin JR's.
I have a cool Baker's Rack...like Darius' just a little different...that I'm breaking down to take, DSinL has an apartment size fridge she's taking......Do I have room for the microwave? I'll see.....Tent camping has come a long way. You should see the kitchen set up one of our families have...I'll have to send pics after the weekend.
I'm thinking about what I want for my Dec birthday and what more DH and I will need for camping come our Aug 2007 BDays......suggestions? We have the Areo bed, but not on a frame......My parents crack me up.....My DD always buying some different boat to put in the "Boat Graveyard"....DO NOT park your boat over there, it WILL break down! DM just wants what she wants and if it is "For the Kids" DD will get it. DM can buy what she wants when not shopping with DD....Leave him at home! Whoa girl! Who just got the new tent???? That's what I thought.
Have a great day...Will still be working on Dede Dodo, hangin' out with my little niece (my Locks of Love partner) and Twin 1. They are saving me a spot between them in case they need me in the middle of the night. Hopefully they will sleep until DH leaves at 3:30 am and come crawl in, with me....ewwww that's only two hours away......Twin 1 had an unfortunate experience last summer...someone breaking into their home (very random & not a bad neighborhood) holding her grandparents at gunpoint...she gets up to use the bathroom, totally oblivious as it is so dark, the guy shoves the door open with his foot yells at her to get back in her bed, put her face in her pillow and not say a word.......he finally gets through with his phsyco rampage and leaves via downstairs. Twin 1 was the only one to identify him as the light from the bathroom was shining on him when he shoved the door open....never found him....very scarry.....those little girls want to know that every door and window is locked when they stay here...we go through and do it....have a night light and the option of me sleeping with them or them getting in my bed if they get scared. They have done fine here....One will usually end up with me after DH leaves. Crazy people everywhere.........poor little things. Night all or Good Morning....have a great day!~Karen~

Maria~ Here's one we took of Baker near the same place as you...different angle...and while you were here! K~

Morning everyone- the last of our hot, sticky weather today - then I can turn off the AC... DS/DIL came over for an evening dip. We stayed in the pool for hours - until the skeeters drove us inside - with a ton of bites!!

somer - so thoughtful of you to donate your 'locks'- I have such miserable hair that mine would be put in the bargain bin!!

Hey- Vi- good job in starting the new daily- proud of you. Now that your concerts are ending, what are you going to do with your time? clean?? garden?? read a book??

Molly- sorry you picked up the 'Mich bug" - we're always good about sharing! LOL I hadn't realized that we had such a reputation. It's worrysome to be without jobs etc. But your great reputation will follow you- just give it time (hard to say when the bank acct is dwindling tho!) Holy cow= that elec bill is outrageous!! That's like heating bills for us in the winter!! Guess every area has it's pit falls!

Misty - hope the crud leaves you quickly and you can go on your fun trip...and that the the AC is working where you are going!

Mary - DH sure enjoyed your description/pics of the haying stuff. He did it by hand, standing on the wagon catching bales and then stacking. He said it was great fun, but dirty. Memory is the first to go ya know! LOL Can't believe he thought that was fun! But then he was years and years younger!!

Well, time for the garden walk, something wonderful for breakfast and maybe on to a shopping mall (heard they have big sales and it is senior citizens day LOL)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

somer... Congrats on the locks... an old friend called me yesterday. She's donating her braid also. 55 inches! I knew hers was long, had no idea it was THAT long.

I was wrong about the water being back on yesterday. Should have checked more thoroughly before the guys left, as I only have a trickle. Takes 15 minutes or more to fill the toilet tank and a shower or doing dishes is impossible. Hopefully they will be here soon. I just hope the crawl space isn't flooded.

Darius -that can be chapter number 9....the saga continues... LOL

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning All! Hope everyone is getting this rain. I will gladly share with anyone that needs it. To much to fast. Now they are talking flashflood warnings for us. Lots of thunder and lightning at midnight last night. Was it the same around Eau Claire?[for those that live in that area]

m5 your hair looks good. Just the right amount of wave. Makes me want to get a perm again. My hair is fine so a perm really helps.

twyla hope the temps break there soon. Headaches are no fun. Excedrin does work. I also only use 1 tablet.

somermoone what a terrible experience for the twins. Lots of love will surely help them.

Well it's a stay at home day today and tomorrow I'll do my running. Hope to get ahold of a friend to do lunch tomorrow.

Hope everyone is getting the weather they need! Vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning. Slow to start this morning. Did the walk around with the garden hose earlier. Sometime today I need to color my hair the grays are showing again. Hate that when it happens.

M5 hair looks good. I've been wanting a perm so my hair isn't so flat. Haven't had one in 15 16 years so little nervous about it. Went yesterday and bought sprial perm rods. Will set my hair in those wet and when it dries see what I've got. If I like or hubby likes perhaps I will. Who knows.

I thought about cutting my hair and going short, but DH doesn't want me to. He gave his reasoning so sweet and cute that it really isn't that much of a hardship to keep it long. Its only to the middle of my back at the longest point so its not really all that long anyhow. I do have to do SOMETHING with I'm just not sure what.
Darius - is it a/c yet????? Hope its soon,
~~~~~~~~~~to all CRS has just set in and I forgot what I was doing. ugh I dislike mornings like this immensely bbl Cherie
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Well, I just peeked under the house, no sign of water on the end where they took off the skirting but I think the leak was at the other end. No way I'm going to crawl 70 feet to check it out! Whoops, the men just got here, now it's their problem!
Okay, they just checked, and the valve wasn't turned on but a hair. Glad it was a simple fix.
I see we have another tropical storm... "Chris". It's between 2 fronts so will either dissipate or become a big problem. In the best scenario in MY opinion, it will come into the Gulf and bring some much needed rain to the gulf states but no damaging winds!
Y'all have a great day. I'll probably check in a lot today as there's not much I can do until the guys finish.
Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)
Good Morning, Had a good night's sleep :) Actually first in a long time. I woke feeling a lot better but could probably sleep the day away. They said it was 107 here yesterday with the heat index, but I didn't feel it because I was inside all day. Oh that would be terrible if the AC isn't working at the Playhouse.
Darius, Wondering if your guys showed up this a.m. to fix the water and AC for you. Get it out of the way before the heat of the day!
M5 - I had my hair cut off a year and a half ago for Locks of Love. Took off 16 1/2 inches. Very thick hair. She said it would be enough to make one wig. :) Since then, I've had 3 haircuts and getting a 4th tomorrow. My hair grows very quick. 6 weeks ago, I chopped it all off and it is short, very short. I love it. My DH liked my long hair, but I told him if he would wear it for me, I'd keep it long. Couldn't see how that would work, so I chopped it off. It is so cool in the summer and just so easy to take care of. I would highly recommend it. Somewhere on DG I have pics of my locks of love cut and this new one.
It's supposed to be another hot one here in the Midwest. I hope everyone stays cool today. One of our Louisville TV stations has a Fan Club, whereby they collect fans in the winter and give them out to people who don't have AC or can't afford to buy a fan. Great thing.
Well, better get my day off and running. Have a good one and I'll check in tonight.
:) Kathy
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
I'm sitting here bopping around the different sites and listening to the rain. What a lovely sound! It is starting to rain harder now. I went to get another cup of coffee and looked out the front window. The hummingbird battle is on. Mr. Pudgy likes to sit on the porch post and guard the feeder I have on the window. His little head swivels back and forth. Then he's off after one of the others. Yes there's even a Mrs. Pudgy. I haven't seen any pudgy babies yet.Maybe they have to fully mature before they get pudgy.
No I don't want to start any housework. I hate housework! Its never done!!!If we cleaned and it stayed clean for a month that would be wonderful.
Wel, guess you all think I am an idiot. Posted last night, and thought the post went pouf, so didn't even try to post the pic. I will later today, as I need to get moving to the grocery/errand task today. Everybody take care.
Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Oh Vicki hummingbirds!!!! I haven't seen a one this summer and last year I would see one at least once a week. Got more butterflies this year than I had last year. Thats something at least.
I know what you mean about housework. I hate it too. Its always an endless battle. Thankless job like grocery shopping. You buy the food bring it home and put it away and the other people in the house eat it. Then you have to go back and do it all over again.
Maybe I guess thats where growing your own veggies is the smartest thing to do . They get hungry fo pick somthing wash it cook and it. Leave me at my computer.
This heat leaves me in a constant state of inelegance
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
darius I just thought it was a natural state for me. Glad to know it's the heat.
When DH let Dawson in this morning he was bouncing all over feeling perky from the rain. Imagine 125# dog bouncing around and waiting to go back out. He keeps it up he's going in the garage until it stops raining.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Hope it is coming your way. But not on the fairgrounds tomorrow. Okay Cherie????
Good morning. Another one of those inelegant GOB's here. And guess what? I don't care! It must be a variation of "fat, dumb, and happy".
I had been thinking about posting snow pictures for you who are suffering from the heat. I see Maria and Meezers beat me to it. I might do it anyhow. I have some pictures of big drifts that are sculptured by the wind. Ok, I'll find one and post it.
Sarv, we did have fun haying the old fashioned hard way. One place where I worked had a barn with a track in the loft, way up by the roof. By the time I worked there all the hay was being baled, but they still hoisted it up in a big net and then stacked the bales by hand in the loft. When the loft was empty the floor was so slick it would have been a perfect dance floor. The ropes that hung from the pulley on the track were perfect for climbing and swinging. We would hang from those, swing back and forth, then let go and slide to the end of the barn in our stocking feet. It was so slick we never got slivers. Thankfully nobody ever went out through the door at the end where the hay came in, it would have been about a 25 foot fall. Too much excitement. We already knew that kids don't fly.
Somermoone, it sounds like your family has a lot of fun. Sad that some kook broke in and tramatized your GD and grandparents. Did the guy steal anything, or hurt anybody?
ves, I'm with you on the housework, it won't stay done. Anybody try to teach their dishes, laundry, or housework to STAY? It's worth a try.
Darius, just a valve not open, no leak, that is great. You'll have AC and be able to take a shower by the end of the day. Maybe your batch of jam will set when the house is cooler.
Twyla, I hope your headache is better soon. I hope you have a good fan to at least keep the air moving.
My yellow kitty is sitting here with her toes right next to the keyboard, purring, waiting to be petted or talked to. She rubs her head on me once in a while so I don't forget she is there, and as long as I talk to her every few seconds she is ok, and doesn't walk across the keys. She has even been known to send instant messages.
Breakfast time, then a walk with the dog, riding, watering, weeds, laundry, well you know, it keeps me out of other mischief. Have a great day everyone.
Hi folks,
I see you've been chatting up a storm. I've been out all morning. Worked at a 10 am concert. Music of Mozart in various forms with various musicians. And went to a wonderful cello-piano concert at noon. will be back at 5 for a concert by the Penderecki Quartet with an additional cello for one piece. And stay at the same (air-conditioned) venue to work on the 8 pm concert.
The Festival is winding down with only a few days left. Tomorrow is also a busy one, but I'll get Aquafit in. I work at noon and would like to attend concerts at 2, 5 and 8 if not too hot as NONE are in venues with AC. The plan at this time is to take the bus down and just stay put. Friday, I work at 10 am and at 8 pm and may take in a noon hour concert. Saturday is the last day with only two concerts and I'm working the closing concert in the evening. Sunday we wind up with a private concert for the volunteers followed by a reception in the evening. So far I'm on track to work 22 concerts and attend 19 others, but a couple are maybes because of the heat.
somer- those are quite the braids and a nice thing to donate them.
Sarv - I need to clean badly. LOL But I'll make DH do his share too. I've sort of kept up with bathrooms and laundry and that's about it. I've got a new book on integrated HTML and CSS and need to get up to speed on XHTML for my web pages. Then there are the retirement projects. LOL And it's not all that long until we leave on our trip. And I've been working right along on the two afghans I'm making for grandtwins. Haven't taken any pics but I should. 120 squares each and I have about 1/3 of each all the way done to determine whether I had the right amounts of yarn. I've been carting them with me when in line for concerts and now have the second round on all but 3 squares. The ones I carted with me this morning were not being crocheted, but I was tieing in yarn ends before going on to the next round.
darius - glad your water problem turned out to have a simple fix.
misty - your hair sounds a lot like mine - thick and fast growing. I went to short quite awhile ago. There's always been too much of it (width-wise) to put into a ponytail.
hey, I don't need the heat to stay in a constant state of inelegance. I just go there naturally.
Twyla - another thing with your headache - make sure you are getting enough SALT in the heat.If your sweat doesn't taste a bit salty, maybe you need more. There are salt tablets or you can just put more salt on your food or dissolve some in water or juice.
Well, I'm home only for a couple more hours. Better get on with doing a few things constructive while I AM home.
Wow! what onions. Oh to have enough space to grow them and dry them.
Hope rain does come and bring the cooler weather. If it wants to rain at the fair grounds so be it. Water bill came in today 200 bucks and some odd cents. DH is going to freak. There goes my pond again for another year.
Weather channel updated our foecast from 30% chance of scattered thunder storms to 50% chance of possibly severe damaging winds and hail. There goes my new gazebo. Looked nice for a few days anyway. Can't even muster a tee hee on that one. Still muggy ut only 94, yesterday it was103 in Waukesha.
Hope all who wants and needs the rain gets it. cooler temps as well.
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Afternoon everyone - back from a day of shopping - wonderful sales too!! I got two pair of long shorts for 7.99 each and then 20% off that for senior citizens day!! A fall black coat and some serving utensils. Also picked up a fall sweater and some DVD's to make back up for my computer. All in all a good day
Did have a nice thing happen. My friend and I stopped at Wendy's at 10:25 for a diet coke (she had a headache...) We pulled to the drive up and they weren't opened. We saw a guy going inside and asked if we could just get a pop. He said to just pull ahead to the window and gave us these mega cups of pop- FREE. Now I've never had that happen before - what a nice surpise. I need to write a note to Wendys....
Continues to be hotter than blazes here - hope the rain comes our way as it is getting very dry again. Ves- blow the rain over the lake
Wow- Ernies place is gorgeous...love all the flowers...and raised beds!! I've always wanted those. Thanks for the pics Maria!! And how is the boss? Still jumping on you?
I'm not into cleaning at all in the summer - just a lick and a promise is fine. I always say I'll do it when the cold weather comes, but then I'm starting seeds!! Always something isn't it!! I clean good when I have a party - and I don't want to have any more of those- too much work!! So, the moral of the story is - messy house till I croak.
Darius- it's almost 3 here- how's the AC coming? Do you have it cranked on HI yet?
I'm in inelegence no matter what the season - I'm into comfort....
Well, off for a garden walk
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Whew, the HVAC giys just left, and the Unit is running! They say it will run for 12-24 hours to acclimate. Much as I generally hate AC, it feels good inside and the thermostat is set at 78º. I'm just not an inside gal.
I haven't seen Gracie since they got here this morning, but they were working in her "area". She should be home for supper, I think.
Nothing in the house for MY supper, and I need more lemons for the remainder of my peach melba jam anyway. Maybe a trip to town later when it cools off. IF it cools off, LOL.
They came and took away the 250 gallon propane tank today. Now all that remains for today is my yard man to show up... Wednesday is the appointed day. He won't be happy that now I shall be growing hay and not mowing but not much I can do about it.
