Dear All,
I want to thank each and every DG member that did believe in my 'pay forward' project and allowed me make it come true.
Late last night (for us), early in the morning for Dinu I broke the news to him. He already knew about the DC, but not about the computer. What did he feel? Let’s better tell him LOL.
Dinu's friend Kashi, who lives in the USA and is travelling to India on Aug. 11th, will take the DC, accesories and most of the money I collected to Dinu. Unfortunately, PayPal has a clause for 'unverified overseas members' that does not allow me to send all the money at once, so there will be an outstanding balance I will wire Dinu in September (Kashi is travelling with the money I was allowed to withdraw for July and will withdraw this week for August).
Dinu already told me that now he feels the need to ‘pay forward’. I told him I thought I could speak in Dave’s, all DG members that participated and my own name that the best way for him to ‘pay forward’ is to post many pictures and tell us more stories about his fascinating country, traditions, family (especially our favorite DG Granny), etc.
Thank you from the very bottom of my heart to all Dave’s Garden Angels and Dave’s Garden Fairies that participated in this project one way or the other.
Dave’s Garden rocks!
Dave’s Gardeners rock!
The Lord bless you all.
Ursula
I broke the news to Dinu!!!!!!!
How wonderful Ursula. Congratulations to all involved!
It goes to prove that many hands make light work, it just needs someone or something to start the ball rolling.
Thank you Ursula !
Dea
Job well done!!!!
Hi Ursula!
That is just wonderful, every thing is coming just as you planed.
Remember it was your good and loving heart, that got the hole thing started.
You rock as well Ursula!! ;o)))
That's great to hear - thanks again for undertaking such a worthwhile project, Ursula!
Yay! So wonderful when a plan comes together, eh? Even better when people come together!
Many thanks, Ursula!
Shoe.
That is so great to hear! Thank you Ursula! :)
What a wonderful gift for a wonderful fellow gardener! Thanks for heading this, Ursula. Jo
BIG Smiles and Hugs Ursula AND Dinu!!
Ursula, Congrats on a job well done from the bottom of your heart. It is so nice to know there are still caring and wonderful people around such as yourself and many at DG.
CONGRATS to all that help
Yes and Dinu lots, lots, lots, and lots of pictures please.. I love picture. The biggest gifts and thanks are from the heart and not of money value but are quit priceless. As I suspect that Dinu's pictures and story will be priceless.
Hugs and Happiness to URSULA and DINU.
Beck
I'm so happy Dinu can start shopping soon! Having a computer will mean his daughters will have all the more chance to learn, too. And pictures...Many more pictures and narratives for us from Dinu! It's wonderful to see posts from all over the world. It makes the world seem so much smaller. :)
Ursula, I'm so proud of you and proud for Dinu.
Judy
Does he have an ISP available at his home?
trois
Good question, Trois.
That's one of the things we hope to provide for him with the money. He should be able to have a local computer merchant build him a computer for a reasonable price and have money left over for internet service. That's our hope, at any rate!
Way to go, Ursula. I am proud to be involved in your very worthwhile venture.
Don
Ursula!
Congratulation on a job well done.
Good on you!
Cristina
Ursula...participating in your quest makes the seeds even more special than they already are. They are definitely seeds of kindness. Congrats on a job, very very well done!!

Congrats Ursula,
I am so glad to hear the GREAT news, If I don't mess up the seeds, I am going to do a specail garden with them to remind me, there is special ppl that do care, no matter where they are. And when I view the garden I will find hope restored because one person did a very special and caring deed. You are that very special person, an angel that has brought joy and beauty to so many ppl. May you find blessings untold.
Connie
Ursula,
Thank you, thank you for your selfless generosity. What a inspiration you are and I'm so glad I could be part of this. I called Holden Arboretum and they are excited to try all the seeds you sent. The greenhouse and nursery manager was psyched because he didn't know a single plant nameI read to him over the phone. What fun for me too !
Much affection,
Andrea
Dear All,
thank you for your kind words (blush). I was not looking for any recognition, just wanted to share with all of you that the goal was achieved.
I think we all have enrichened our lives with the pictures Dinu has now started posting with the new digital camera and his explanations of customs that are frequently so different to ours.
My seed sale was a great success. Soon I will be able to calculate the exact amount left for Dinu's computer (there is still some money dropping in). So far, all I can say is the money should be enough for a good computer and probably for a one year internet connection. I will leave it to Dinu to buy or have his computer assembled according to his and his daughters' needs and have already asked him to invite his beautiful wife Aisha to join DG.
There have also been some delays in getting the money to Dinu with the PayPal account I opened for this purpose. It took me a long time to realize that as foreign PP user, having an international credit card is a sine qua non condition. Well, I applied for one and finally got it. But ..... there was something I did not count on: full/legal names in Chile are composed by:
- One, two or more Christian names
- Your father's family name (even if you are married you keep your 'maiden names') AND
- Your mother's maiden family name.
According to this, my full name is:
Brigitte Ursula Fischer Lehmann
However, since birth I was called by the name 'Ursula'. Since I know that in the USA and the European countries you have just one Family name, I registered myself at PP as Ursula Fischer.
I did not think about that when I applied to the credit card (and could not have changed it either, because they write your name as it appears on your ID card) and they decided to register me as Brigitte Fischer Lehmann (not enough place for Ursula LOL). Therefore, when I tried to enter my newly acquired international Visa card at PP to become a 'verified user', the system rejected my entry.
Today I got a reply from PP to my enquiry and they want me to send them a copy of my Passport or Driver License to be able to change my name on the account. This will take almost 2 weeks to get there.
This means, except for US$500 limit I was able to access at the beginning (part of it was sent to Kimmie to buy the accesories and to mail them with the DC to Dinu's friend in the USA, part of it I used to buy ziplock baggies (from the money I will get back for postage) and the remaining $324.90 were also sent to Dinu's friend in the USA - for the computer Dinu will buy) I have not been able to forward the rest of the money.
Now I realize I should not have broken any news to Dinu until I was not able to send him the full amount for his computer, but .... it's done. Maybe Dinu is too stressed learning how to use his new DC to think about the computer LOL, although I keep him posted.
I want to thank each and every DGardener that believed in my project and bought my seeds, and specially Dave for allowing me to do this here. I know I could have collected the money on selling my seeds on eBay, but most likely it would have taken longer and more 'fees' would have been applied.
As you all know, I gave Dave my password so he can access my PP account to monitor any 'movements', and everybody involved can be sure the money I collected will be used for the purpose it was planned.
If any of you did not receive the seeds purchased from me, please let me know: I have enough seeds to replace them and will be glad to do so.
Love and hugs to all of you,
Ursula

You are fantastic! Jo
You are a wonderful, wonderful person Ursula. I am so glad that your seed project went so well. I hope you know what a special and loved person you are.
Hugs,
mich
There is not enough vocabulary in me to convert my thoughts into words, esp. regarding this project. I can only say that without divine hands such things are simply not possible. My family is happy, very happy..... not solely because the things are coming my way .. material things, I mean.... but because there are people with such beautiful minds and attitudes whom I feel lucky to have "e-known". My sincere gratitude to all those persons. I am just enjoying every minute here on DG- the only garden place I have time for, besides my own DG (you guessed it right -- Dinu's Garden). And learning so much, gardening and otherwise. I am lucky that I bumped into DG way back in 2001. I can't believe 5 + years have passed by so quickly. It has transformed me into a different Dinu. It will be a lovely fairy-tale to tell many years later. I hope I can live up to everything.
Since English is not my mother-tongue or is the language usually spoken for day to day activities here, my expressions in sentences may not be convincing. I beg your pardon for that.
Yes, as BUFL..... (Ursula, LOL) guesses, I'd been stressed learning operation of the new camera that came to my hands recently. And I have to manage my time in the office for DG (open secret this). I come into threads and exit hurriedly at times leaving the expression incomplete. So with the fruition of the new project, things could take a better shape, what with me sitting at the 'puter while fellow- DG-ers are also doing the same at the same time -- there is almost half a day difference and also post 'live' pictures!!
((Dinu))
Dinu - we're looking forward to this e-penpal friendship!
Dinu...don't forget to let your children have some "computer time"....what a wonderful learning tool...but it can be a "Devil's tool" also...monitor their use.
Have a great time! Jo
im so happy for you dinu and glad to be a part of this project and davesgarden!!
Learning tool, yes certainly. But now we have to learn time-management more effectively!! LOL. It should not topple other priorities and that is my fear. Hope we will handle it judiciously.
I remember an incident. I had an old Anglo-Indian lady friend (had mentioned about Mrs.Brown in some thread) whom I visited almost every week. We have gas for cooking supplied in cylinders (not in built pipelines like water) and she had got a new connection and the first cylinder had arrived. We had heard of cases of these cylinders bursting and killing people mostly due to mishandling and leakage of gas. (Liquid Petroleum Gas). So when I went there, she told me that a tiger has arrived. She was so afraid to operate it. I was surprised when she showed me the cylinder. Slowly she got used to it and her comforts with cooking increased.
An e-tiger is awaiting its entry into our lives.
Dinu
LOL Dinu...You are certainly right! And I cook with that same tiger as Mrs Brown!! Jo
