Coffee...and for July 31, 2006 We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/633118/
Okay, pull up that chair, pour your choice of hot or cold drink, and lets talk about what we plan to do today. Personally, the first chore is canning some tomato juice. Our tomatoes are cracking and splitting, so I need to get that done before spoil sets in. Then I need to go to the post office to get some plants in the mail. Sure hope they arrive without too much heat damage. Then since I am hosting a church group here on Thursday night the cleaning and spit polishing begins. Have told DGD that I will pay her to work for me this week doing the necessary chores to whip things in shape by Thursday. So will check in to see what's going on, but not be an active contributor for a few days.

Coffee...and for July 31, 2006
Well I am here and alive barely. We have a huge fire burning here and for awhile the town of Weaverville was threatened and hwy 299 to the coast was completely closed down. The smoke is soooo bad that you can't work outside or sleep.
Put up over 2,000 feet of hot wire fence and am now care taking 5 horses out of the fire area since I have the acres. We could'nt drive in to get them so we had to hike in the 2 miles and ride and pony them out. The horse I was riding did'nt like the idea of ponying and that was quite the adventure just to stay on bareback. Oh and I forgot to mention that the one and only mare is preggers and ready to pop....I found this out last night, so I will move her over here where I can watch her. I hope Salsa accepts her and is'nt too big of a bully. He's usually good with mares and loves babies.
Well I have read all and cannot remember much just know all are in my thoughts and prayers..Maria the sunset pictures are beautiful and I am glad Samson did'nt do too much damage to you.
Ernie, your place sounds wonderful....By all you and Maria posted I may have to get up that way sometime....
Well ~~~~~~~~to all, it's too early and I have to leave for work in 2 hours so off to water and feed horses frist....Have a great day........Lauri
Good Morning - AC is on and the sun is blaring. Heat index is supposed to be 105 today!! I ave no plans today - just puttering around the gardens. I still want to start some more zinneas, but I fear it is to late. I have 5 big pots of mums that I potted up from cuttings. They are doing great!! I've always wanted to do that, but never gotten around to it! The only problem is that I have to find somewhere to plant them. I suppose I could just pitch them, but don't think I will be able to do so!
lauri - that fire sounds bad. Especially the breathing part! When the preggo horse delivers will you name the new one Fireball? I think that's appropriate!!
Looked up mildew/mold last night- they are both fungai (spelled x probably...) Sounds like they are commom problem tho. I bought a mildew free shower curtain liner last year and it sure does work. We always have had problems in the downstairs shower (no fan), but for the past two summers, not a lick of mildew in the shower.
Well, time for a garden walk - see if I can squish some slugs!!
Good morning,
Bonnie - It's your call whether you want to start the thread for tomorrow or let me know do it. I wasn't awake yet yesterday when I counted two days. Just let me know so we don't have a situation where we both do it or neither does.
Well, I'm gonna skip aquafit today. Want to do a few yard things and get something up on the Food Cupboard web site. I asked them to e-mail me some files, but one didn't send properly so I stopped by on the weekend and sent it again.
Plan to attend part of a concert at noon, work at the 2 pm and attend again this evening. On the way in, I'll drop by Audi dealership and ask them to replace a turn signal bulb that burnt out. If I can leave the car with them, it will solve the problem of how to get to the bus since it stops right outside their building.
Have a good day.
Ann
what can you say to a morning that is 48 degrees well it is suppose to get hot at least 65 0r 70 by this afternoon so I guess its only a tee shirt for me today.
Back to work today time to hit the hiway back tonight have a good day all.
Maria no fair taking a better sunset picture from my sunset place than the one I sent you last year.Ernie
Okay, am up had my coffee, and will be working on tomatoes today. Making juice. DGD likes this job, so will have help with it.
lauriewilson, the fire sounds scary. Does this happen often there? Sure glad that you rounded up the horses and they are safe. The name Fireball is appropriate for the colt.
Well, gotta get going, will check in later.
We're getting heat up here too, though not quite so bad as many of you. I did opt out of ushering in the sweat box church tomorrow evening though. Let the kids do it.
Hi,
Just a quick note in case I don't get back here today. V-ann, yes I'm set to take over posting the link for the second half of August. Why don't I start on the 15th? I'm sure that you'll be pretty busy doing all the last minute things that come up before a trip.
I'll be back later if I can manage it to try to catch up with everyone.
High 50's here with 88 percent humidity - in other words, damp and clammy. Still beats the heat tho- lightweight polartec at least gives you the illusion of being dry.
Lauri-the fires sound so scary, I always wonder how people get their large animals out. Guess they have friends like you! When we lived in San Francisco there was a fire somewhere around, not even close, but the ash came down like snow and the smoke bothered my asthma...I can't imagine being that close. I'll keep all those threatened in my prayers. Sure seems like a lot of fires going on all over, and where it's not burning, it's flooding. So weird. Hope the mare delivers okay. Please keep us posted. Lots of people in the Equine Forum these days with foal experience!
Ann-I guess we'll be steaming by afternoon, I don't think that far ahead. I don't blame you for skipping out of a closed in space with no A/C!
defoecat-my tomatoes are just coming in. I've never canned juice, we simmer them into sauce.
sarv-I haven't heard of mildew causing breathing problems, I know mold can. Don't know the difference in their effects. Also some molds are more toxic. Must be all sorts of varieties with degrees of harm?
Ernie-LOL about the sunset picture.
maria-saw on another thread that you were back. Welcome home! We need a Samson update.
I haven't been here on DG for quite some time.. been traveling a lot, but I think we'll be staying home now, except an occasional trip to Indiana to visit my mom in a nursing home there. It's already 81 here in Central Illinois & they are forcasting 99 for a high & the humidity is 87. Very balmy & hot.. I won't be doing much outdoors today.. other then watering the hosta beds. We watered the veggie garden yesterday. We live in the country, so I only use 1 or 2 hoses at a time.. don't want to over do the well.
Wildfire would also be a good name for that foul.
Jan
Good morning all. House is cleaned and I am suffiently water logged with sweat. All to do is vacumn That will wait til I dry out.
Had a busy day yesterday. The tent that got blown down in last weeks storm has been replaced by a gazebo from farm and fleet. We went to various places and finally settled on that one. It was on sale and tee hee its the one I've wanted two years now. It has curtains you can put on for walls that will zip closed if need be and mosquito netting you can use as well. We didn't have those up because we just wanted to shield from the overhead sun on the patio. This has little shelves on each corner so needles to say I had to rearrage my containers to get some on those. Ed said they were cup holders and I stick with the picnic table is under there put your cups on that.
While checking out Menards and Home depot, though we didn't see any type of outdoor tent like we wanted DH spent alot of time looking at different pond liners. I may get that pond after all.Yippee ya who!
I've heard about those wildfires and they sure do sound scary. Course fire and me don't mix. I'm terribly afraid of fires. Thats why it is so weird that I just love having a fire in the fire pit out back. I guess because its contained and my DH lets me have the hose there is case any thing flies out. Nothing ever has but I feel better.
I'm trying to get him to finally pull up the stump of the dead tree we cut down. I've irises and other things I want to move in that spot. August is going to be really busy. Plants to divide and move, kids to get ready for school, plants repotted to bring inside. Lost my Asparagus fern in last weeks storm. The drainage hole got blocked and it drowned my plant. Dumb me I never checked it until I noticed the fronds were yellow and brown in some places. I've cut it back and clipped out all the dead stuff. DH drilled holes in for extra drainage. There's some green on it so maybe I can save it. DH bought that plant for me just after I met him in 2001 so it has become an old friend. Boo Hoo if I can't save it.
I agree with Jan Wildfire would be good name for the foul no matter what the sex.
Hello everyone, i'm still feeling some bad after yesterday the heat.. Lauri so glad yu saved the horses. hope the wildfires all die out to..I see Wa. sis where the good weather is.. long ways off...lol.. its to be 100 here today..everything has burned up.. Me to..
Tomatoes oh i wish.. love them any way can fix. except fried..Everyone be careful in heat.. have good day...
Twyla
Good morning. I hope the mare has a foal and not a foul. LOL. Lauri, If possible isolate the mare for the birth and soon after, because geldings have been known to attack and kill foals. Hopefully, the mare will be back home before she delivers. It's so good of you to take them in. I've done that riding bareback and ponying a horse deal, it can get quite exciting and frustrating. It helps to know the pecking order of the animals you are moving, but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Do they belong to friends of yours?
Kooger, it is nice to see you again. I'm glad you are still with us even if you can't take the time to post. I've been wondering about the Kandyce and baby K situation and I'm sure others would also appreciate an update when you can manage it.
This morning was cooler, it is surprising how fast we can go from sweating to goosebumps, but I had them this morning! Official temp at the airport was 44 but I didn't look at ours. We did have a brisk wind all night and our house is oriented to take advantage of that for cooling, so we got the full wind tunnel effect. I closed the windows on the north end of the house so we could still hear the birds singing through the open ones on the south end. We get kinda wild temperature swings out here where the mountains meet the desert. Our altitude is 3300 ft.
Fritz and I took a long walk down the road since it is cool. Cows on one side of the road were in a playful mood and came running to the fence to see what that little thing was, and he couldn't get very far away from them. Poor guy, he sure would have liked to just go poof, but we had to walk back. The neighbor on the other side of the road was baleing hay with his big, BIG baler, it makes 1000 pound bales, carrys them along until there are 3 and them dumps them off together so they are more convenient to pick up. So, there was a lot to watch. And of course dogs make all those side trips to explore the smells. I try to keep him out of the roadside weeds because there might be a rattler in there, and of course that is just where he wants to go.
Job list today: vaccuum, laundry, mow the lawn (maybe), watering, weeding, and riding both horses. My daughter in law might come out to visit since it is her day off. She, my son, and granddaughter were out yesterday to get beans and other vegies. They had been to a lake swimming after church, so they had a full day. I was out riding Patch when they arrived, but got home about 20 minutes later.
I'd better get moving. It will get hot soon enough although maybe we will get 80's instead of 90's today. Here's a wave ~~~ for all of those I missed this time around.
Hello again. My DS just decided he would read the official weather heat advisory to me from the tv 110 degrees. Its only noon. I will wait to water until this evening when it gets a little cooler. No sense doing it now and having it evaporate on me. Only watering the beds I put in this summer. The other 5 will have to wait a bit more.
Hope everyone is staying hydrated at least. Switched from coffee to ice water 2 days ago. Caffine will dehydrate as fast as the heat. Right now I could use some of that ice cream everyone talks about on here but lo and behold none to be found in my freezer. Never stays long with DH around. Well if I get my pond..............he can eat all the ice cream he wants whether I get any or not. Usually don't seeing as he eats it in his sleep. Either that or I have ice cream fairies that come in and eat when no one is looking. Ask the kids its I didn't eat it, DH says I didn't eat it.....I know I didn't get any. My DD (the oldest one)_ told me casper must be back again. Oh well.
Doesn't anyone have any more cool pics they want to share?????? I love seeing everyones pics.
Grrrrr... the nice looking and hard working young man I had Friday failed to show up or even call today. WHAT is it with the younger generation?
Heat Index for tomorrow is 114º. Hopefully my HVAC men will show as promised.
Hate the thought of fires, but like the names for a foal whether colt or filly!
My sister has had her working hours cut back so I'm on my own for paying the bills and work at this new place. My pitiful social security check won't cover much, may have to see if anyone would hire this old hag.
BBL
Good morning all. I'm taking advantage of the miserable weather and staying inside, vacuumed, killed the laundry montster, hung sheets outside where they dried uncommonly fast, made a fried egg breakfast sandwich and now I'm working on a bowl of those nice sweet dark cherries. As Cherie said, it is going to be 110....heat index. There's a hot wind so no relief that way. My DS in the UP said it is just as hot there. They have no A/C either. She said she'd have been better off staying in N.C.
The blueberry pie is history, DGS and his DW stopped over last evening and we polished it off very quickly. I still have an pie's worth of dough in the 'frig though, so another one wouldn't be much effort. I remembered to put it on the pie tray in the oven so when it ran over the sides, it stayed there and didn't mess up the oven floor. I'm not always that bright!! I've thought about getting one of those silicone pads for the bottom, has anyone ever had one, and, if so, how did you like it ?
V'ann, I commend your wisdom in opting out of the hot ushering job...! How long will you be gone on your trip, and will you bring back lots of pictures for those of us who are traveling vicariously through others? DH cancelled the weekend jaunt we were planning mid August, so he could play softball in a company tournament. Of course, he didn't bother to ask me if I minded not having our first weekend away in eight years, so I am being quite rude and thoughtless for the foreseeable future. LOL (Don't think I am kidding, 'cuz I'm not.)
Now that I vented that to one and all, on to more entertaining commentary.
Elaine, make me a meatloaf sandwich with MW and a couple of juicy tomato slices on it, a thin slice of vidalia, and I will love you forever. That is my absolute favorite sandwich. Sometimes I make meat loaf and use it just for that. One of DH's least favorite meals. Hmmm. Meat loaf for dinner tonight. LOL
Well, here is what your favorite kitten has been up to. Wish I had the camera handy when she first stalked into the living room, dragging it like a lioness with her kill. She was so proud!! I had it hanging off a planter and she managed to snag it. Now it's hers, I haven't the heart to take it away from her!!
Cherie, is the gazebo a tent type, or is it wooden? I'd love to have a wooden one, back where we could see the flower gardens and enjoy a shady spot to sit. Our yard is flat out sunshine as our trees are too young to provide anything like shade...and probably will still be, for my lifetime.
Darius, with your cooking skills, could you put up a little "catering on demand" notice somewhere to pick up some spare cash? Or would there be multiple licensing requirements, lack of necessary cooking equipment, etc. to make that impossible? Are you sure her hours are cut or is she thinking you are spending unwisely and using that as a lever? (Suspicious minds want to know....lol)
Waving at McCool, Dorothy, Maria, Ernie, et al, will drop in later to see what you are all up to. Me, I'm going to dry that last load of laundry, give the kitchen a once over lightly, and plant myself in a comfy spot and read, or watch some of the recorded tv shows that are getting pretty old and taking up space. Stay cool.
Sheila
Darius, If you were closer i would hire you in a heartbeat. I don't think there is much you can't do.
Havn't been in a very chatty mood lately. Last Wed. it was confirmed that co-worker's DH has cancer again in 3 places and there is nothing that can be done except give him chemo and lots of morphine to keep the pain as minimal as possible. They are sticking to their scheduled vacation this week. Gina's dad has a beautiful lakeside cabin in the Adirondak Mts. where they are going to try to spend the week. If it is too much for John, they'll cut they'll come home earlier.
Thursday DH asked if I would take stepdaughter to one of her court appointments since he couldn't get out of work. It was in center city Philadelphia. We had a 9:00 court appoint and didn't get out of Philly until 4:30. What a zoo!. First courroom we went to the judge didn't show up. We were there for almost 2 hrs when they shuffled us to another courtroom. There must be at least 50 or more courtrooms in this building. When they finally got to her case, the court clerk stormed out of the courtroom. The judge hopped down from the bench and went out in the hall where they had a very loud screaming match. Our lawyer said he has never seen anything like that in his 25 yrs of practice.
Been very hot and sticky here also. Tomorrow and Wed. should hit 100. Glad I'm not going into the city this week.
Found out this morning that an aquaintance of ours died in a plane crash yesterday. He had one of those small 2 seater planes and an airstrip at his home. Don't know the details yet as to how it happend. The crash happend at his home.
Lauri - Good for you rescuing those horses. Hope all goes well when the new baby arrives.
CeCe - hope you get your pond soon.
Havn't checked back much over the last couple of days. Hope you are all doing well and staying cool during this awful heat. ~~~~to everyone!
Sheila - You COULDN'T have, or if you really DID, we ALL want to know HOW you actually KILLED the laundry monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I have *ever* been able to do is slightly wound it, and then have to spend extra time pre-treating the blood stain!
There is no way on God's green earth I could have deprived Olivia of her 'kill'. What a proud huntress she is.
cece - those ice cream fairies may have come from here since I have been out of ice cream for about a month. I'm sure they were getting hungry. I'm going to get some ice cream tomorrow, but I'll ask you kindly to keep the fairies, so that *I* can get to enjoy my treat!
gottta go - bbl
ginni
Oh my gosh!! Everybody has so much going on. I usually take notes but didn't know where to start today.
laurie What a scary situation. Glad all went well. Good luck with the mare! They are all good names. It's always fun to name a new baby.
suzieq sorry about your friend..
darius your week ended so good. Sorry this week didn't start better.
Haven't checked the temp yet.but from what everyone is saying I'm sure it is horrendous[sp] with those strong winds.
Hi and~~~~~to everyone else. BBL Vicki
Boy I don't know if I want to read this another day or not. Isn't it awful that life has to have so many sad problems? I hope that everyone gets a better day tomorrow including myself. This heat is awful and even with the air conditioning I am having trouble breathing.
In. from the pool. I invited neighbors over (7 yrs older than us) and their DD and her kids. We all splashed around and it was glorious... Now I'm inside in the air feeling refreshed fodr a bit.
Darius- hmmm I'll be thinking of a job for you. I think you could write a book about your life!! It'd be a best seller for sure and you wouldn't even have to make things up to go in it!!
suz- so what happened at the court?? How did SD come out? That's too bad about the friend dying in the plane accident. On the other side- he was doing something he loved (I hope) and he went quickly... but so sad for those left on earth.
It's 95 deg here and sticky...I'm off to get a bowl of peanut butter ice cream and read a couple of chapter of a book. I'd like to make a meat loaf, but suddenly it sounds like a lot of work!!
Hello all, I am back again. Have been working like a maniac today. Canned 22 quarts of tomato juice, and in between the times it was on the stove, and not needing much attention, cleaned the pool filter, and have about 1/2 of the house cleaned. DGD has been a gem today. She helped with the juice, and some house cleaning. She cleaned one bath room, and then tackled the furnace vents and returns. (I do that once a year), but she seems to think that it needs to be done on a weekly basis!! Since the AC has been cranked up all day, am taking advantage of that to switch on the oven cleaner. Have cooked some corn, and have green beans on now cooking, so I think it will be a veggie supper again. Still have a bucket of cucumbers that need something done to them.
Darius, come on down here honey, and I can give you all the work you will ever want. I am sure that someone in that are would love to hire you. Just advertise as a jack of all trades, and I am sure that someone needs something that you can do.
Mr. B went with DH this morning to the garden, and when they came home, Mr. B had gotten into a place where a neighbor had burned a tree stump. Since it was early, with plenty of dew, Mr. B, who has no black on him, suddenly became a brown/white/black dog. DGD and I took care of that a bit ago, now his white is sparkling and the brown is back to his original color. Of course he will pout for about 3 hours. To add insult to injury, DGD also managed to clip his nails, something that I have to have help with. Don't know what she whispered in his ear to get him to let her do that.
M5, who in the world could deprive that "child" of it's toys. If that particular animal has any significance to you, hope you get over it real fast, as I think it has been claimed as a toy.
Notices we have some newbies here, Hello Makshi, and hostandquilts, if you have been here before, excuse me, claiming CRS.
To everybody else, ~~~~~ as I cannot possibly comment. Everybody seems to be having he same weather, it is 97 here, and humidity is probably as high as it can get. A breeze blowing, but it feels like a winer furnace going. BBL, to see what else everybody can think of doing.
Killed the laundry monster---not, he is alive and well here!!
I NEED A BREAK!!!! I just did the stupidest thing at work. I do alot of database management and just did a replace.... in the wrong data field. Now I have to go through 2300 forms and make sure the right fields are checked. Oh well, only an hour left of this day and tomorrow I will have a helper.
Sarv - Once again stepdaughter got off with just probation and fines. She was convicted of cashing fake checks. I think a few weeks in the "greybar hotel" would have done her a world of good. But, the case before hers was for someone selling heroin to an undercover cop and he only got 15 months! Wasn't even his first conviction. The more I see of our criminal justice system the more disgusted I get. Off that subject, gets my blood boiling.
Defoe - Wish I could do as much canning as you do. I used to do lots of tomatoes. will do some corn this year if we get enough extra to freeze.
Ok back to work.
I am ashamed to admit that my fit of braggadacio has set me up for your skepticism. And it is well deserved. The laundry monster is never truly dead, not as long as we are wearing anything at all! And I forgot. Plus, I hung the sheets outside and our subdivision has covenants about nudism/laundry hanging/clothes lines etc. LOL It felt like it was dead for a few moments there,as I scoured the house and couldn't find another single thing to throw in the washer. O silly me.
Found that stuffed monkey exiting the home and garden show last spring, rescued it from being squashed by trampling feet and brought it home. So, I have no emotional ties to it, and 'livie is having such a good time with it, it will be hers forever more.
Suzie, you've had quite a week, certainly hope this one is better for you. Sympathy to the coworker, that's a dismal outlook with no good news in sight. When a beloved aunt of mine passed away at a young age, I was struck with remorse that I hadn't ever told her how dear she was to me, and made a vow at the age of 22 that I would always tell the people that I loved how much I cared for them and how special they were to me. I hope I have been able to keep that promise to myself.
One of our friends who I had worked with for many years, last year was diagnosed with cancer, and a group of us managed to get together with him after his first bout with chemo. I spoke to him after we left the restaurant, and told him how good a friend he had been to me and DH, and wished him a good recovery, and said he had been a joy to know. His wife is still a good friend although we don't hear much from her. He suffered a quick and painless death a few short weeks later. Say it now. Sometimes there is no tomorrow.
Bonnie, I could use a DGD like yours, if she ever wants to vacation in Wisconsin, where it is supposed to be cooler in the hot summer, tell her I've got her room waiting. And Mr. B got a bath. I can only imagine the baleful looks you are getting from the poor little man. First, no date with that siren next door, and now, a BATH. Such abuse. Cleaning furnace vents, what a concept!!
Hi to Makshi and Hosta&, ~~~ to everyone else, back to the sofa!!
Sheila
Ahhh, what a busy and dismal afternoon for many of you. Death is amongst us, apparently. Holding positive thoughts for all of you and your friends.
However, M5's kitten made a great kill! Wonder if Samson did?
I have to open and re-cook one batch of peach melba from this morning as it has no intentions of jelling. I'm using a slow cook method that has no pectin. The rest are fine so maybe I didn't measure the sugar correctly. Still have 4 more additional runs to make in the next 2 days, for a total of 40-42 half-pint jars.
I haven't heard my pickles "burp" for a couple of days and cannot open them before Friday. I will either have pickles or a disaster, LOL.
Drove 35 miles each way to Lowe's to get some EMT tubing (the metal tubing for electric wires) and plan on getting started tomorrow on some wall-hung rods like I had before for my pots and pans in the kitchen. See the idea here in the photo, behind the Baker's Rack. I will leave the cupboards for my sister's stuff, not that she cooks much. Maybe that will change!
Sarv, I'm pretty sure her hours have been cut as she sounded very upset. She's not good at faking much.
Maybe after the grass has grown 2+ feet tall, I can get someone to cut and bale it!
Oh, gosh, can't believe that I didn't update you on Mr. B's love life. Last Thursday night, DH decided that his female beagle was not in heat anymore, so he released her from her confined area. Although there are 2 male beagles, they sniffed, and walked away, so he took that as a good sign. Well, Mr. B was outside, and he did more than sniff|!!. They ended up on my front porch, "locked in love", with DGD peering out the door! DH grabbed the water hose, and DGD asked him why he was watering the flowers, didn't he know that he needed to do something? So I suppose in 62 days, we will have JaBeTerriers. That's Jack Russell/Beagle/Terriers. Maybe I convince some of the locals that these are the newest rage in designer dogs!!
What an idiot the DH can be! Can't believe he did that.
susieq, sounds like you have a day comparable to McCools day last week. Oh, if you are gonna have a helper tomorrow, it surely will go faster. So sorry to hear about your coworkers husband. Sure hope that he can be comfortable in the time he has left.
M5, if every there was a day that you could get away with being outside hanging laundry alnude, it would be today. DGD says that she would be glad to vacation in Wisconsin, help you clean, and play with Olivia. Showed her the pic with the monkey, and she is in love.
Okay, got some paperwork to do, so best get to it. Will be back later. ~~~~ frantically to everyone.
If Sheila killed the laundry monster it's probably cause Sammi and Olivia helped!
Hi everyone. I'm suffiently exhausted so will be short and sweet. No M5 its not wooden. That is a far away project. Right now I just liked the way it shielded the sun over head. Pond first, then greenhouse, the permanent gazbo,. I can only wor5k one year at a time. Dear hubby wouldn't want me to have everything at once. What soul;d have to look forward to??????
Its hot here guys and I'm not ashamed to tell you I don't likle it. Not in the least. I liked the Vegas weather when I was there in 2003 July 2003, it was a dry heat ,much easier to handle than this d---n humidity. I don't mnd baking is its a dry heat. Moist heat makes me itch. CONSTANTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I need to get out and water the beds put in this year sooooi. see everyone later and talk soon. Cherie
Sammi and Olivia can kill the laundry monster??????????????? MY i BORROW THEM??????????????
meant to say...............May I borrow them?

Went outside for a short walk around and to do some watering. I might as well have dumped the watering can on myself. So so sticky. Picked a couple of tomatoes and a zuchini. Will have spaghetti squash soon. Need to pull weeds, but maybe this weekend will be better.
The computer problem at work may not have been my fault. I found some other "glitches" in things it was doing. It still means some extra work, but I feel better if its not something I did.
M5 - I totally agree with telling people how you feel about them whenever you can. Life is so so short.
Darius - love that kitchen rack, nice workspace.
Going to go have some ice cream and read for a few minutes before bed. Nitey nite~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not be deluded for one second, they were not one bit of help. As soon as I went in the bedroom to strip the sheets off the bed, Sammi, and Olivia leaped up there and tried to hide. I warned them that they would end up in the washing machine in very very hot water, all they did was hunker down and try to look like part of the bed. So I dragged them off and dumped them on the floor. Not satisfied with their efforts, they followed me into the laundry room snatching at the trailing linens and trying to catch a free ride. Even after I put the sheets in the washer, Sammi was peering into the tub to see if there was room for him. He fled when the agitator started splashing.
What then? Oh, let's all run back to the bedroom to interfere with the clean sheet bed making. By this time, Mini and Souky decided they needed to see what was going on. Oh, looks like fun!! Jump on the bed as soon as I have one fitted corner on, slide under the sheet and hide, as if I wouldn't notice four big lumps between the sheet and the mattress pad. Chased them out. Flipped the top sheet open, ziiipppppp !! Now they were under that sheet. If I had any more help, I don't know what I would do. I was so very tempted to just tuck it all in and leave them under there. We do often refer to them as cheap entertainment. Cece are you sure you want that kind of help?
Hmmm, if hanging sheets outside helps to get rid of wrinkles on the sheets, maybe.........nahhhh, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work.
It's a wonder I get anything done at all.
LOL Mr. B got "some" after all!! Gotta admire that kind of persistance! I think they were plotting that all along. You know, girls usually like to play hard to get but he didn't even spruce up with a bath, that came later!! We will need pictures later of the new Ja-be-terrs. Iknow it's not funny, but I'm so warped I can't stop laughing!! Locked in love...hahhahahahhaaa Snort!
Scrubbed the steps going down to the basement, where cats track up litter and DH tracks up garage crud. Miracle of miracles, when he came home he NOTICED it was clean. See, that proves my theory that it doesn't pay to do that kind of thing on a regular basis, because then you can't see the remarkable difference.
Oh, fooey, I have to pay some bills, and clean up this scrap heap so I don't have to look at it. My Tuesday golf partners called and they want to go out tomorrow, but early to beat the heat. I said why not. Course won't be busy and we'll be done by 8:30 if we tee off at 6:30 or so. Ya, I know, we're nuts.
Sending cool thoughts to everyone, probably won't see you in the morning, and I've got a perm scheduled in the afternoon although I am getting cold feet about it and it might not happen....but I'll show up eventually. ~~~ing at everyone, and dragging out the calculator and checkbook. Work work work. It never ends.
Sheila
Hi folks,
In from the evening concert. It's still nearly 80 F here. Sure glad the concert was in the air-conditioned venue. This afternoon I did the unthinkable and walked! Left a concert I was working at before it was over. All new music. Some of it was quite nice. But not all. The first piece after the intermission was like caterwalling. After about 10 minutes of it, I packed up everything and left. But that's not the main reason. Traditionally the 2 pm concerts have, like all the other daytime concerts, been about an hour long. This year, half of them have intermissions. Trouble is, the preliminary booklet we use when we ask to work certain concerts doesn't indicate that some will be longer. It catches vols off guard at times. Once I realized there was an intermission, I still figured the concert would be over by 4. At intermission, it was clear that it would not be; so I told a few people (house manager) that I had to leave at 4 and I did exactly that. The concert went on until 4:30. I feel that is taking advantage of the good will of the volunteers who sign up for them and I will tell them so, but after the Festival is over. These two days of the Festival are traditionally given over to contemporary music and we've heard some really fine new music and, of course, some not so fine new music.
The concert this evening was in celebration of the 90th birthday of an Ottawa composer who spent most of his career writing music for the National Film Board of Canada and in his retirement had written quite a bit of chamber music and very fine stuff. As my husband said, he seems to be able to write music that leaves you wishing there was just a bit more instead of wondering if it will ever end.
Catching up, I hope.
McCool - I'm prepared to take thread starting through the 17th, but I'll let you know if I panic at the end.
Jan - welcome back. Where in IL are you? I did my post-graduate work at the U of I in Chambana, but back in the mid 60's. And my first teaching job - for 5 months (Jan-May) was just over the border in Danville, IN. I can remember how warm it got in the spring before the term was up. I never got to experience it in the summer, but DH did.
cececoogan - sure hope you are able to save that fern.
Mary - makes me tired reading your list of jobs for the day. Hope you got it all done. Baker City is in eastern OR - right? We'll get to Portland, but only to Portland late on the 18th for a couple of days. It's the 90th birthday of DH's aunt who lives there. But DD and her partner and DH's cousin from Vancouver all have to work on Monday; so it's not an extended trip.
Darius - sorry your help didn't show up. And too bad about your sister's hours. I sure hope her place sells soon.
Sheila - the trip - We leave Ottawa on the 18th. Are trying to see if we can leave later than early in the morning. Are using points; so even if it costs us, it will be worthwhile. Once in Vancouver, we pick up a rental van and after they finish work, drive with DH's cousin and her mother (another of DH's aunts), DD and her partner and head for Portland. Will be VERY late for us Easterners and probably around midnight when we get there. From Monday to Friday we are bumming around Vancouver. Other than I'm going to get my hair cut (have a lead on a good hairdresser who can handle thick, coarse, wiry hair), we don't have an agenda that week. May go out to Vancouver Island where DH has another cousin. Or DD wants us to start working on the back yard of her new house (picture attached). I think it will be a BIG job. They take possession of the house on the 15th but won't have moved yet. However, we will stay (camp) there.
Then on Friday (25th, I think) we go to Japan - Sapporo - via Kyoto's sinking airport. We were there once before for a conference and were treated extremely well. We return to Ottawa on September 2 or 3.
Suzi - sorry about your coworker's DH. I hope he's able to be kept comfortable. Also sorry about the acquaintance who died in the plane crash. Your experience in the courts sounds other-worldly.
What a bummer - the database error. (No back-up you could return to? I guess not if you're complaining.) Won't comment on the step-daughter's problems, but hope she gets herself sorted out one of these days.
Bonnie - how can you even think of all that canning in the heat? You make me tired. Best I could do (other than attend the Festival) was grate 2 huge Zucchini's I found yesterday in the garden. Got about 11 cups. Threw some into dinner and froze the rest in 2 cup quantities.
Sheila - thanks for the important reminder of the things we need to say to others. We probably are all guilty of omissions.
Well it's getting late. I hear thunder rumbling in the distance, I think. The laundry monster is definitely not tamed in this household and I think he has friends in the dirty bathrooms, kitchen, etc. Haven't done much cleaning in the last while.
Waving ~~~ to anyone I didn't directly address. Hope you all have a good night.
Ann
Well, I have read all, and will be back to comment, maybe in tomorrow's forum, but will be back shortly with the new daily.
Okay, my official reign is over, so follow me over to the new daily, my last "hurrah" : http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/633919/
