Coffee...and for July 26, 2006 We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/630426/
Pull up a chair (gee this crowd if getting larger), grab a cup out of the cabinet, and have a beverage of your choice. Coffee for me please. Who has goodies to put on the counter? Tell us what your plans are for today. This is grocery/errand day for me, so will be MIA this morning.

Coffee...and for July 26, 2006
Gee, just realized when starting this thread, that Christmas is only 6 months away. That is a depressing thought for me, as I ain't had near the fun I want to for this gardening season.
So are you making your lists, and checking it twice, already? I need to get on the ball, as I don't want the 1st of December to roll around and I have not done anything.
Have a good night everyone.
Hey Defoe ... gee I hate to bust your bubble but isn't Christmas on the 25th? I mean ... you said it's 6 months away today? *grin* Anyway, I'm putting out the homemade cinnamon rolls from the little place downtown that makes the chicken salad and broccoli salad. They are soooo yummy. Here, take one and pop it in that microwave over there. Watch out and don't blister the roof of your mouth. Ah, now isn't that good? Okay, now that you're drooling ... I'm off to bed! LOL
~~~~~~
Lets just not even talk about Christmas at this time of year. Dont worry, as soon as School supplies are taken down from the stores in a few weeks, all of the Christmas stuff will be out. I just hate going Halloween shopping for the kids costumes and having to walk past the Christmas displays to get to the Halloween candy. I really wish they would at least wait until November to put all of that stuff out. Okay, sorry I got off on a tangent there.
Defoe - Just loved the way you summed up everyone (some work, some retired, some cat people, some dog, etc.) LOL -I am a cat and dog person. Have 3 cats and 1 dog now and have always had either one or the other or both all of my life. DH isnt very fond of cats, but he allows me to have them without complaining too much. He is the dog person.
Just getting ready for bed now. Pretty tired from today, although it was better than yesterday I must say. Wish I could stay home tomorrow and work in the garden all day!
Ive got to go load the coffee pot for in the morning and then to sleepytown. Will try to drop in tomorrow morning and chat over coffee.
Katy
Hi every one,have been very traveling around the area seeing just how beautiful this state is, mountains, oceans, bays and magificent forrests.
Today Linda and two of her friends took me on a cruise to the San Juan Islands stopping off at the San Juan Island the last one before the Pacific ocean and only about 20 to 30 miles away from Victoria in British Columbia. The weather was perfect though the waters were quite a bit choppy but I did not mind it at all.
We had avery nice lunch, I had a yummy salmon burger and walked all over the islands center and visited the whale museum plus did some shopping.
The journey back home was much smoother, It was just great seeing all the very wooded mountianous islands rising from the their waters.
Last Sunday I went with Linda to a garden show, sponsered by a group of people contributing for cancer research. Linda works hard for this giving lots of her time to make it a success. A couple of years ago their garden here was included in one ot these shows. Ernie posted a lot of pictures on DG . In any case, this show was great, beautiful gardens all in Bellingham.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~to to all of you,
Maria

Maria~ I'm so gald you are enjoying the beauty of our wonderful state. We do almost have it all:)
Dang! I just realized you leave tomorrow:( we're going out to get more crab after DH gets home from work.
Waited twice for the cable guys today......2 weeks and 4 people later I believe the issue is resolved!!! took my mom for an MRI (we both have been blessed with Fibromyalgia...yuck!)..ran some errands, went and picked up some apples, took them to my Auntie and Uncle, picked beans. Came home worked in the yard...DH made a great dinner which I finally ate some of at 10:00. Snapping and canning beans tomorrow...off to bed! I think I'm actually tired...HURRAY!!!!
That makes me the first Real morning person. Hi Everyone.
Ann
Christmas don't even go there. I haven't had all the ripe tomatoes that I want yet and you are talking about Christmas. :) I had a blue spell yesterday and hope it doesn't return today. I just can't seem to get everything done.
I planted a night blooming cerise cutting that I had rooting. I don't know how long it will take it to grow.
I am really tired this morning and I have to give the doggie her insulin in a little while and the my other doggie girl her medication also. Did you ever notice how much the old puppies resemble us older ladies?
Morning everyone- just finished a bowl of left over chinese-just as good today as yesterday!! Skipping the peanut butter today..
Cloudy today but so so humid and hot. I got up at 6 and turned on the sprinklers. My brugs are beautiful - many are flowering and the smell is heavenly.
Defoe and Vi -you both amaze me with your stamina. I feel like such a slug in comparison.
I work a little, rest a little, etc.
Folks came out last night and we did have our chinese meal - it as tasty as always. Played 2 games of scrabble and 2 of rummycube. Would you believe I won all four!! I love games..plus I seem to be incredibly lucky at them.
Speaking of losing pets- there is nothing sadder to me. We've all cried buckets over ours. But what joy at getting a new one! (can't do that easily with people!!) Speaking of pets, I haven't seen our cat today. She is a black haired cat and is so uncomfortable in this high heat.
wonder if Darius is a grandma yet?
Well, time to peruse the other forums- BBL
Godd morning to all. I lost a dog once. Had to have him put down and have not owned another pet since. Nothing could ever come come close to Bandit. He was a black Lhaso Apso miniature. Had him for 13 years. Got bone cancer and dragged his hind legs and cried, he was near blind and oh........... I feel for anyone who has, is or yet to come will, go through that. After Bandie was gone I swore I'd never have another one and its been 14 years now.
Its raining outside now. Good thing I watered yesterday huh? unbelievable that the weathermen got it right this time.
Barely here this morning. SSSSLLLEEEPPYYY. yawn....
Had to force myself out of bed to get ready for work. Coffee hasnt kicked in yet. I woke up to rain this morning. Made me want to sleep in even more! Went out to feed the animals and they are all in a really good mood. I guess cause the rain and weather is cooled off for now.
Have to go dry my hair and wake up the boys. Later
katy
Okay, sorry about throwing you all the reality check last night. But face, it wasn't long ago that we were tapping our feet waiting for warmer weather so we could get out and garden, and now, before you know it, the gardening season will wind down, and then we will be back inside, probably procrastinating about those Christmas lists!! Remember when we were young (er) and everything seemed like it took forever to get here?, I picture middle age, as the top of the hill, and now everything zooms by at warp speed. Just like sledding down that hill.
Well, today is grocery/errand day, DGD and a friend don't want to go, so am waiting for DH to get back from his chiropractor visit, so he can take over the custodial supervision. It sure is cheaper when she stays home!!
I thought Mr. B had given up his vigil out by the dog run, he came in last evening about 5:00, ate ravenously, jumped in his favorite chair and snooozed for about an hour. After resting, he was ready to go back out and keep "Lou" company. Now aint' that just like a man? Full belly, a little rest, and then zoom, gone again. LOL
Well, see DH just pulled into the drive, so I am off for the morning. Will catch up later. Have a good one. PS the weather here is forcast to be in the 90's and very humid, so maybe the pool will need maintenance when I get home.
grrrr I had a horrid night last night. Having coffee now and finding comfort in those cinnamon rolls. :-)
Hey Maria ... so glad to see you this a.m. Sounds like you have had a wonderful time. It does sound so gorgeous there.
sarv, hope your kitty is just out catting around. Mmmmm, I love Chinese. Did you put those left overs on the counter? I didn't see them when I got up at 6. LOL
Hi Ann, all that music sounds extraordinary to me. Wish I could just sample a tiny portion of it. It amazes me just hearing you speak of it. :-)
McCool, I hope you didn't think I was even thinking that you'd prolong your Tangerine's life longer than necessary. You are a kind and gentle person who took in a stray and I know you would not hesitate to make the decision that's humane. :-)
Defoe, I was just funning you last night. Had to pick on someone. It was late you know. :-)
Hi Katie ... hope you have a good day at work today.
Hi Makshi! So knice to see you at coffee!
Well, I've got to get a refill. It's taking me toooo long to type this. LOL
McCool, and others who have to take traumatized pets to the Vet: Get some Bach's Rescue Remedy (online or at a health food store). Put a couple drops in their water dish the night before, and try to give them a drop or two on their nose or in the mouth before loading them in the car. I used to take the bottle with me when I'd take my puppy because she'd just shake and shake. It sure calmed her down.
It's great for people too! (Get 2 bottles and mark one for pets so you don't contaminate the dropper.) I keep a bottle in the glove box, one in the medicine cabinet, and one in my backpack. Take a couple drops under your tongue when upset, or a couple drops in a glass of water and sip it.
Hi Folks,
I gues I could nave typed a bit longer this morning and still lhave been first as the next post was a whole 4 minutes after mine. LOL
But instead, I had breakfast, went to aquafit and had coffee after. Now, just checking. I have about 45 minutes and have to be outta here for the lunch time brass concert.
Elaine (and any others who like music), you should plan a trip to Ottawa some year during Festival. As I said, it's the largest such festival in the world. The passes are $80 ($75 if you get them early enough) and 4 concerts pay for one pass. Over the course of the 15 days there are 107 concerts you can go to at no extra cost and 13 that require an extra ticket. They usually start at 10 am. Then there are 3 or 4 options at noon, often a concert at 2, and maybe one at 4, 5, or 6 and as many as 5 to choose from at 8. Then usually an 11 pm. there are lots of people who literally move from venue to venue to two weeks and quite a few now who make it a vacation destination. And because it CAN be hot in the churches, it's VERY casual. in addition, there are LOTS of things to do in Ottawa since it's the national capital. Tours of the Parliament buildings, first rate museums, etc.
Anyway, can't natter on too long.
IO think Maria is travelling today - Home? Sure hope she has a good trip.
Cross your fingers for me that we don't have a thunderstorm while I'm in line with the twins for 5 pm concert.
Ann
Hi there! Very humid here again, thick fog gave way to haze.
The Festival in Ottawa sounds great, that's one I'll have to try. I have more and more free time as kids become independent.
I'm sipping iced coffee with a big glob of double fudge ice cream on top. That and some cashews for breakfast. nothing seems quite right for a meal. I know lunch and dinner will feature tomatoes!
Ann-Fingers are crossed. you've had pretty decent weather overall this week, haven't you?
Maria-Hope your return trip goes smoothly. sounds like a you've had a vacation made in heaven!
defoecat and darius-you both put me to shame (and inspire me too!) with all your accomplishments
hope Gracie is doing okay. Any News?
I'm going to clean since it's so steamy out. (I really truly am....I think) (unless someone comes to rescue me). OH-here's my news- The Guys with the Big Machines are ready to start work at the farm!! As soon as I get a date I'll be up there with my camera! We're actually going to pour a basement about 30 feet to the left of the house, then pick up the house and set it on the basement. The summer kitchen will be dismantled for salvage, and a new wing built in its place (not right away, $$$$$!) KInd of scary and exciting, I have been holding my breath and trying not to worry.
dmc, that is SO exciting! I'd be terrified too but I've seen houses moved like that.
Gracie seems the same, no changes.
My maple tree in the front yard is raining leaves and a few are red-orange.
The @#$%^ HVAC people have rescheduled for next Tuesday. Drats.
Hope Maria has a safe trip. Ann, the concerts sound wonderful!
Darius ---- My maple in back is also. Last year by the end of August there was not a leaf to be found (onthe tree). I was raking my patio on Labor day.
dmc that is so cool. I'd be terrified to even contemplate doing something like that even if I had the room to do it. I'm just working on trying to get a pond in the backyard with koi. Then I'll be happy.
Ordered me some bulbs for fall planting. There's crocus, daffs, scilla campanulata, grape hyacinths, hyacinths and lavender mountain lilies. I'd already ordered, rather dh did, some gigantic alluim for planting this fall. I know of three of the beds I'm adding these too for sure. 1001 bulbs in all counting the allium. I don't have a deer problem here but bunny and squirrels I've got. I read somewhere if you sprinkle cayenne pepper on the bulbs before covering with soil it deters animals or placing chicken wire over the bulbs before covering with soil, also. I'll probably do both to be on the safe side. Has anyone heard of this method ? Does it work? The squirrels made mince meat out of my tulips this past spring so I'm worried about the new bulbs..
Cherie
Bonnie yes garden season is slowing but I will be planting some winter crops just for fun soon. I did these special seed from teratorial once before and had a bit of success. I have broc that gets ripe in Dec, Cauliflower that gets ripe in the spring, Cabbage in Feb.and Fall beets that will stay in the ground untill I want to use them or they freeze to mush but it will take a deep deep freeze for that to happen and that won't happen untill Jan Feb if it happens at all. This past winter it did not, in fact I left my Dahlias in the ground and they survived very well. Late Aug I will plant onions for yummy onions in april may and late Dec I will seed several hundred Petunias for the yar maybe a few perrinals who knows. Yes I have a green house so where is the slow down.
Just before Maria came I spent 700 bucks on my truck I was tempted to trade it in then and not do the work because it is a 98 with high miles and otherwise in really good shape I like that truck so I gambled and lost. Sunday night Maria and I went for a ride to take a couple of fans to an old friend of mine who couldn't buy one because of the heat wave we are having. On the way the truck ran as smooth as a watch as usual , Leaving I noticed a bit of a sputter and told Maria poohey the truck is having a problem I hope we don't have to call for a ride home. Things smoothed out and as we got closer to home I was beating myself for hanging on to that truck two weeks ago sigh what to do .
Well when the girls were on the cruise I took it to the dealer went to work and when they called and said 2 to 3 thousand to repair it I said for get it. After work Gabby and I bought a new one lol Linda was glad she has been after me to buy a new one but you know how it is a mans truck is like a wife hard to replace lol. Maybe I will show you a pic later. Gabby was the hit of the dealership lol she got lots of attention and love being queen for a say Gabs is a LADY and is perfect.
So nice to come home and find gifts in the driveway I found some returned plant containers and a plant don't know what it is me thinks a lilly of sorts but I am a tomatoe man short on perineals sp phooey thats the third try and my rule is three trys and its figure it out lol. Thanks Karen.
We will take our Maria to the air port Friday night sadley her visit is over we trie to get her to stay the week end but she is feeling sad about Sampson being stuck in doggie jail.I hope she has not suffered to much culture shock being here lol with us being so laid back ha ha I told her she was the city mouse visiting the country mouse lol her reply was not true I am a country mouse to lol . Work permitting Linda may go see the N E fall colors in Oct lucky Linda. BTW I will miss the coffee cake lol yummy she made it 3 times and it is far better than cyber cake lol just perfect.
Sarv lol keep up all that eating and you will look like me last time I bought a airplane ticket I said round trip to Alanta and the girl said 575 dollars sir as I reached for my wallet she said oh thats wrong please step on the scale looks like you need to purchase a over weight ticket lol. Linda says I tend to embellish the truth lol how would she be so sure of that she has only lived with me for fourty years in Dec mostly good good years but she did call me a big creep once ha ha wonder what she really wanted to say lol she was mad at me for a week.
Have a great day all we are off to pick up the pick up I will get enough $ from the bank to have a nice lunch then I will show Maria the Deception pass bridge that links a couple islands, the one I work on and fidalgo and the one the big Naval air station is on Whidbey . That reminds me thats where ERNURSE Babs lives wonder where she is anyone know? Ernie

Good morning. Sunny again. I need to ride both horses before it gets hot. They are eating their breakfast right now. I was going to ride last evening after the sun got low but the neighbor came and we spent some time untangling the hot fence after moving the sheep. They sure had it strung all over through the bushes, one whole section had no fence at all but they weren't getting out there. I had called the neighbor on his cell phone to tell him they were getting out again, they were going back into my small horse pasture and it's only a matter of ducking under the fence and they would have been into my flowers. He had just returned from getting a load of meat from the freezer facility at Boise (150 miles one way) and was transfering it box by box into a smaller freezer at the ranch. It gets sold to restaurants and individuals in large amounts. He really needs a commercial size freezer at home, it would save time and money. The meat is from the organic lambs and cattle he raises. Long hours, hard work and not much pay. Be your own boss, yeah right, the real boss is the weather, the crops, the animals, the markets. He was on the road at 3am and hadn't even had dinner when it got dark. The sheep will have to be moved again today and we will sort and move cattle tomorrow. At least that's the plan.
Welcome Makshi, it's good to have you here. Come back and tell us about yourself and your garden. We are a snoopy bunch and want to know all about it.
ViAnn, it sure would be fun to have a musical vacation! Do many people do that? It sure keeping you busy between ushering and just attending them for fun. How long does this last? and is this an annual event?
Poor lovesick Mr B. When it's all over he might sleep for a week.
I'm fighting itchy bug bites. First it was ants I got into while weeding, then in another day or two I got some others that itch worse, possibly spider bites. I have been taking antihistamine, and using Lanacane cream on the bites. Nothing is very effective, and they always last a couple of weeks. I get a big itchy welt that feels very active. The best description of the problem is that they feel like an anthill looks. Got that picture?
Elaine, I'm sorry you had a bad night. Hope you sleep like a log tonight.
Maria, I'm so glad you got the island tour, we used to vacation up there with a group that all had boats. We would have others take a lot of our things because our boat was very small and would have been unsafe with all the weight. We camped on a couple of different islands where the ferry doesn't go and where there were hardly any people. There is nothing like having a quiet cove all to yourselves, hiking all over the island, picking wild berries, camping in a tent, fishing or digging clams for our dinner. Our kids were quite small then but they remember those trips! Great memories! We went to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island to get groceries and do laundry. One time actor John Wayne's yacht was anchored in the harbor but the locals said he had gone back to California to make a movie and his crew was staying on the boat until he came back. It was a very BIG yacht!
Darius, what is the active ingredient in Rescue Remedy? If applied topically I wonder if it would calm my bug bites. The most effective thing so far has been an ice pack, but I can't sit around holding ice on them all day. How's your finger? No sign of kittens yet? That could be a race against time.
Back later. ~~~
Mary, Rescue also comes in a cream. I use it for itchies!
Rescue Remedy is made from the flower essences of Impatiens, Star of Bethlehem, Cherry Plum, Rock Rose and Clematis. The Rescue Cream has one more flower essence for cleansing but I've forgotten what it is (and I took the course!).
Just looked it up, it's Crap Apple!
http://www.rescueremedy.co.uk/
http://www.ihealthtree.com/bach-rescue-remedy-10ml-bach-flower-remedies.html
Rescue worked well on Imari. She no longer barfs when we go to class in the truck. At $11.00 or so for a tiny bottle I figure we can share it. After all, her kisses are sweeter than wine, and Rescue is 27% alcohol !
Fighting the battle of 'heat frustration'. Should cool down sometime soon, I hope. Too many things I can't do in this heat that need to be done. meerrychristmastoallandtoallagood day.
Robert, here's a neat trick. Buy a sterile dropper bottle, fill it 7/8 full of SPRING water (not tap water, not distilled water... the water must be living!). Add 4-5 drops of Rescue and 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. vinegar or brandy. Close the bottle tightly, and percuss it 50+ times against your palm. Somehow then ALL the molecules of the water become Rescue.
Hi everyone! It's been a busy morning for everybody I see. I've been to town and back running my errands.
It started out nice but the sun came out and you know the rest of the story. Got more rain yesterday. We might catch up yet. Hope everybody is getting the weather they need.
Sarv48 thanks for the supper idea. Chinese sounds good and easy to make.
Katie did you have a good day at work?
dmcyour iced coffee sounds delicious. I've never had it. How exciting about the house.
cece you're going to be pretty busy planting all those bulbs when they come. For the tulips i ordered I plan on making a bulb cage out of my old rabbit cages. Dh keeps wanting to get rid of them and I keep finding ways to use them. They measure2x4 and so far I have made 3 raised beds with them. I just wish I had gone higher. Well that can be changed.
MaryE your updates on Mr.B are so entertaining. It'll be sad when they stop.
Hi to Makshi,ViolaAnn,Eweed,Somermoone,101, and darius.
I've really got to try and get something done.
BBL Vicki
Just checking back in for a min. Had some lunch ... tuna salad with one of my yummy pablano? peppers, green onion and miracle whip. Yes yes, I'm a miracle whip gal. :-) Also sliced up one of my sugar crunch cucs with a tomato with salt and pepper and basalmic vinegar. Had a wonderful glass of water with a lime from my lime tree. Yum! I was very proud of myself. Blew it when I opened the bag of chips. LOL Now that I'm feeling fat and sassy think I'll get my book and lie down for a bit. Y'all *know* 6 is toooo early for me! LOL
Oh meant to say ... balvenie I too noticed that *extra ingredient when I looked up the Rescue Remedy! No wonder it has a calming affect! hehehe
Ernie, sorry about your truck but glad you found a new one. Don't know what I'll do when my DH has to replace his. He's super attached to that thing! LOL
Okay off to find that book.
~~~~~
What a cutie!
cece - Arianna is adorable. enjoy her.
Mary, the Chamberfest is in it's 13th season. It's been the largest in the world for several years now and spands 15 days each year though on opening and closing days there aren't many concerts. And yes, there are ever increasing numbers of people who use all or part of their vacations to come for it. Also volunteers to spend their vacations volunteering or one person who is the production manager works for Canadian Customs and takes his vacation each year to work for the Festival. I give it a lot of credit for breaking down some of the barriers that keep people away from classical music. Have a look at their site: http://www.chamberfest.com/english/index.html
Ernie - how far are you from I5? When we flly out to Vancouver in the middle of August, we will pick up relatives, rent a van and drive down to Portland to visit DH's aunt who turns 90 then (and is doing real well). I probably won't be able to get the rest to stop, but one never knows. Sorry you had to get a new vehicle, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Glad Maria has another couple of days with you. Not sure how I got the idea she was returning today.
Dorothy - that sounds like a challenge up at the farm. Hope it all goes well. Also hope you do come up for some of the Chamber fest some year. I also thought the coffee sounded good.
Well, better get my act in gear to go get grandtwins. Will pack some grapes and cheese curds to stave off starvation since the concert is at 5. I hope to be in line with them by about 4:30 since the sight-lines in this church aren't great. Grandpa will probably show up just before 5. The church has a small parking lot that not many people know about. I hope I can find space there.
Ann
PS I refreshed the thread and remembered to copy what I had written first. Yippee!
It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring (dh is snoring right now...) I watered all morning long and this afternoon it started raining this nice gentle rain.. Heavenly. I can see our grass growing!!!
But it is supposed to get beastly hot for the next four days- high 90's...ugh..
cece- hey that's one cute GD. We're all hoping for a girl for the next one in our family. 1001 bulbs?? Are you crazy??? Ouch, I can just feel the pain in my arm= planting all those....ouch
IO1- I had tuna for lunch too - great minds think alike!! I devoured a whole can - using wheat things to eat the tuna with. But now my shorts feel tight - I had a sundae for dessert LOL I just cannot get off the ice cream kick....Good thing I didn't make my annual appt with the doc yet!
eweed - good thing I don't fly!!! I can't believe they make you get on a scale - are you pulling my leg? I always wondered why DH hung onto his trucks so long (like his wife huh?) DH has an 85 that he just won't part with - I refuse to ride in it...
I imagine Samson has really missed Maria- just think of how happy he will be to see her. Hope he doesn't knock her down giving her kisses!
Darius - rescue remedy sounds like something I would like. Think it would take the place of my xanax? LOL
Mary - good luck with the itchies. I got some itch stuff from wallyworld- works like a charm for bites. Can't remember the name right now.
dm-that house moving sounds scarey!! Hope things turn out well for everything and everybody.
Drier just buzzed- gotta go hang up stuff so the wrinkles stay away
cece-What a beautiful child!! Thanks for giving me a reason not to throttle my teenagers!
Rescue Remedy worked for me! Last year I had a hellish day getting to a horse driving clinic, was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and someone gave me a couple drops of Rescue Remedy and in a little while, I felt great! Not dopey like a tranquilizer (had some in grad school & couldn't take them cause they made me feel like a zombie). I heard RR had vervain in it...thought about making tea from Vervain to see if it would work, but I'd forgotten the whole thing. OMG I could probably live on RR and coffee!
Everyone swears by it for nervous horses. I probably was given a draft horse sized dose! LOL> I was in rare form that day!
Any thing with 27% alcohol in it should do something to settle the nerves!! That makes it about 60 proof, right? Beer has 12%. I could probably have a party on it, I seldom drink... Cheap date..
Been busy, did some ironing, paid bills, went out with the shears and did some beheading. I feel like the Red Queen, "Off with their heads!!" Couple of the hanging baskets looked shabby, now, they look mowed. Rained some last night, but not a significant amount. DH is supposed to be having a department picnic this afternoon, so he said not to make a big meal for tonight. How about *no* meal? Boil a couple of eggs for egg salad sandwiches and call it a day.
Dental appt tomorrow morning, just cleaning. Imagine, I pay full price for a half a mouthful. LOL Nan and I gab away most of the hour scheduled anyway, since we have a long history together. It is across town though, so I'll have to bail out of here early to fight the road repairs/traffic/idiot drivers.
Aww Ernie, too bad about the truck...bet it cost more than the repairs to replace it. DH will have his paid off in two more installments. He'll never admit it, but this was a poorly timed purchase. Gas prices started going up immediately and it gets lousy mileage. He thought he would sell it when his brother dragged the Suburban back up here, but then DB decided to keep it, so that plan didn't work
He's getting nasty emails from the guy who bought DB's old SuperSport Chevie. I'm not offering too much sympathy, DB has one of those little black clouds hanging over him like that character in Lil Abner. DH took his word for the condition, and the guy had a body professional inspect it, so I don't know what the outcome will be. If I even thought about doing any kind of deal with the BIL, you can have them come and lock me up because I will have gone completely out of my mind.
Dmcd, my stepfather built his house himself, and bit by bit built a foundation on the other corner of the lot, and eventually moved the house over on to the foundation. My step-cousin still lives in that house. My sister and I tarred the foundation exterior the summer I was 11 and she was 12. I got a new swim suit out of the deal. He made the cement blocks himself too. We girls knocked those blocks out of the forms and carried them to the site. Talk about slave labor! (He was the reason I was sent to live with my dad and his new wife. He didn't like the way I looked at him.... when I was four! ) I usually spent a couple of weeks with my birth mother in the summer time. I was the lucky one....I got a stepmother who thought I walked on water. And my sister got stuck with housework, babysitting, woodchopping and water carrying.... The actual move of the house onto the foundation was fairly quick, and no damages.
Ann, the music festival sounds like a great vacation expedition! I've only been to Canada via the tour around the Lakes, starting in Northern Minnesota. It was beautiful. Some places along Lake Superior had water so clear and blue it looked like the Caribbean. On the southern shore now you can see where the taconite processing has discolored the water because they run it off into the lake and you can see it from the air, way out.
All the exposure to music will benefit the twins as they progress in their schooling, children exposed to music are better in math and science than their peers. Completely aside from the enjoyment!
Elaine, I'm a MW girl too....mayo is fine for some things, but on a sandwich, you just gotta have MW! Would you believe I got a package this morning already from the Vidalia Onion company, already!! Well packed. As I was eyeing my treasures and deciding who I would give the extra jars to, my evil twin said, "keep them all". LOL DH stopped at Sam's yesterday and came home with two humongous bags of potato chips. Considering that one bag usually goes stale before we use it up, I think he'll be tired of them long before they are gone. The bags won't even fit in the cupboard I keep the junky food in.
Bonnie, that was a good reminder about Christmas. I have already started some accumulation of small gifts, piling them up in the guest room. The Lang Company has an outlet store here, (They do calendars, greeting cards, note pads, envelopes, figurines, candles, glass votives, wall decor, pottery, etc.) and the markdown is fantastic, most are like 80% off the retail price. Who doesn't like notepads, cards, and all that ? Great stocking stuffers, shower gifts, birthdays, whatever the occasion, it all comes in handy. Trouble is, I go in there and come out with two heavy shopping bags
and a very light wallet!
Cece, I must have a thousand bulbs in here already although the attrition rate is tremendous considering the few squirrels I see. They must be dining well on them. And it doesn't look like all that many when they come up in spring, especially the small ones like the hyacinths. I have a box full in the garage from where we dug up the front earlier this year, have to remember to get them back in the ground in fall.
I better go rescue the eggs before they blow up! ~~~~ to all, and , yeah, where is Babs? Working working working......
Sheila
Yes, 27% alcohol IS a lot... but c/mon... 2-3 drops' worth? Ya gonna get high on that miniscule amount?
Besides, I re-make mine as I detailed above to Balvenie and I use apple cider vinegar. 5 drops of 27% solution to a 10 ml bottle and half a tsp. of vinegar.
Where'd everybody go?
I went to move sheep. Now they are happy with new fresh grass to munch. It's 93, I'm dripping. Tomorrow we will be working with cattle early in the morning. I'll be leaving here about 5am. We hope to get the cattle sorted and part of them moved before it gets hot. The sorting corral is half hot fence and half barbed wire fence, and we have never sorted there before so are just hoping it works. It could get more interesting than we want.
Gosh I had to go water and fix supper. LOL I also had a nice chat with Casy. She's doing fine but is anxious to find out from the doctor on Friday about her DH's surgery.
Mary sounds like you'll be plenty busy tomorrow. Do be careful and drink plenty of water in that heat while you're out there working.
Hahaha just had a lovely chat with Darius also.
Now I must go finish cleaning up my kitchen. LOL
today was not good day. jessica and i had to go to several salvages to find what mechanic wanted needed for my van.. so we did heat got me of course then coming down this street i spot tiny tiny black kitten laying in road i flipped around tried to save it but a care glanced on it so we took it put in nice place in grass.. right in middle of the busiest street.. so sad.. then they came got her so was lots hollering and cussing from them, i told her she had to go i was getting so agitated upset..so not good.. hope every one is being cool.. Christmas I'am not thinking of it..Only what its about..
Just out of the shower - I worked outside after dinner and came in dripping.. Oh the humidity is awful here. Ended up cutting back shasta daisys, allium, malva and some tinthonia. Looking mighty bare in some spots now!
My DB just called and invited us out to his new yacht...his cottage on the water. He just got it this spring, so we're all going out on Fri. It is supposed to be beastly hot and I am not sure my folks can stand the humidity tho. They do have air on the boat, but that entails going down some steep stairs and they can't do that either!! DB will take us for a ride, but my folks won't go - they can't get on the boat.
Mary - good luck with your chores tomorrow - be sure and take it easy..especially in that heat..
DIL got her thesis done!!! Yahoo....I can't believe it. Now she just has to get it printed and bound. Professor OK it, so it is a done thing. They went out to dinner to celebrate. I am so pleased for her. It means a nice pay raise for them.
Tomorrow I'm meeting the girls for coffee (I'll get a smoothie in this heat!!) We have a gift for the friend who lost her mother last week. We take a collection and get a gift certificate at a garden center. Usually a tree is purchased so it is something permanent.
Well, I put fake bake on my legs, so I need to stay outta bed for another hour. My arms are brown as a nut and my legs white as cream - I look crazy..
see ya in the morning!!
Dorothy said she probably had a draft horse sized dose! Ihad a half a glass of wine at lunch with some friends one day, and after leaving the restaurant, decided I was not fit to drive....I'm telling you, if you don't drink but once or twice a year, it doesn't take much! People do build up a tolerance, and I apparently have none! Like I said, cheap date.
DGS is here and wants to talk, so I'm saying good night and see you sometime tomorrow...after the dentist
~~~~~ to everybody!
Sheila
Ves - work was actually okay today and I got to leave on time! Thanks for asking.
I am just about to go brush teeth and head to bed, although I dont know how much sleep I get. DH and DS are hovering over the kitchen table putting together a model car and they have a pretty loud airbrush machine they use to do the painting. They are both into cars and I am not at all. I always say "my husband works on cars and I play in the dirt" LOL DH is restoring an old 1970 Nova now (real one) and has about another 2-3 months of working on it until it is finished. I like him having a hobby though, cause then he cant bother me about mine:)
Meezers- Hope the dentist doesnt find any cavities and such.
Hope - Kitten story sounds awful. I just hate to see an animal killed on the road like that.
Sarv - Fake bake??? Does that mean the sunless tanner? Several women I work with use it and I have never tried it. My natural skin tone is very fair and WHITE. Getting in the sun or tanning bed has no effect. just get a sunburn (bad one, too) DH likes my ghostly white complextion, so I just decided to leave it alone. I figured if I dont mind it and he likes it, who else is there to please??
Well, I need to get on to the bed now. Glad to see everyone is doing well. Will try to catch up with you in the morn'
Hope everyone sleeps soundly! :)
