Just wanted to add one: Wipe car wax on your black or dark kitchen sink, keeps it from spottting.

...or on a black kitchen stove. My husband "waxed" our gas stove top recently (with Turtle Wax) and it cleans so much easier.

lemon juice will get orange rust stains out of your clothes. I have rust stains in my toilet already (only a couple of months old). I noticed that my ceramic top stove's cleaner smelled like lemon juice so i read the label and it is indeed citric acid. So I am going to turn off the water to the toilet, flush it and let it dry and then apply this stuff and see if it works. I will let you know.

Oh, and here I just gave away my Slinky!

I needed to get some of the tarnish (not all, I like patina) off a brass candle lantern; but my old brass cleaner seemed to have lost its strength. So I sprinkled salt on half a lemon and rubbed it with that; it worked.

bivbiv,

I saw a PBS telethone with a man, last name, Haley and he's written books with cleaning secrets called Haley's Hints. I couldn't find it at a local SMALL bookstore but one of his techniques is cleaning silver with NO SCRUBBING! He used a foil lined bowl (creates a reaction), some salt, some HOT water and I think 1 other household thing. It was SO neat to watch!

I've always used the noxious stuff that says to wear gloves, causes cancer in lab animals. NOT good! Plus you still have to scrub!

Tir, I think the other ingredient for cleaning silver with foil is baking soda.

Or baking powder? Phooey, now I don't recall. Who out there can add the missing ingredient?

Piqua, OH(Zone 6a)

I believe it is baking soda. I do not remember using salt, just the foil with hot water and baking soda. Works too.
