Coffee...and for July 24, 2006 We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/629540/

Okay, tell us what you plan to do today. It is a Monday, and not my favorite day of the week, so it may be a slow start. Grab a cup, and the beverage of your choice, and sit a spell.

Okay, another one without error. Hey this is getting to be fun, at first it was sheer torture, as I fretted and fretted over doing it, then fretted over doing it right. Only thing now is to be sure to check the date and get it right. Wouldn't want to have somebody showing up for work, when they could be home!!

Hope everybody has a good restful night. Good night Gracie!!

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Just heading off to bed now. Had a long day. Dog is buried and DS isnt too upset. He said something about "at least he still has Buddy (another dog). Went out and picked a big mess of figs again this afternoon, but I dont have to do anything with these as I am taking them to a lady at work tomorrow. I promised her I would share when they were ready and she is wanting to make some preserves. They will need picking again by Wednesday if not before with all the rain we've been getting lately. NOT complaining, we were very under the normal amount of rain for our area and the cotton farmers were starting to squirm.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, katym, what I wouldn't give for some figs to make some jam. I love them, but alas, they don't grow here. What else do you do with them?

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning to all. Had a whole day planned for outside. Now its raining. The one time I refuse to believe the weather man. His 30% chance of scattered showers is raining all over the place.
M5 I'm sending it over your way because I really don't want it today. Maybe tonight but not nowwwwwww. Now I have to use the dryer. Yuk.
Whats got planned for everyone today? Gonna go look around BBL

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone. Just in from a garden walk, but stopped to pull a few weeds and ended up weeding half a row of peppers. They are the tiniest plants, but loaded with little peppers. For the past two years I've mulched them with grass clippings - had the most enormous plants, but few peppers. This year I decided not to mulch - small plants with loads of peppers- go figure!! All in all our garden is the pits this summer tho.

I slept like the living dead last night- didn't wake up until 5am - those nights are few and far between for me! And woke up with no aches and pains...something is going on!!

M5- gorgeous bouquet - I moved fushia and purple petunia pots yesterday and came inside to find monster stains all over my kakhai (sp ?) capris. I put some pine sol on the stains, but it didn't come out - any suggestions? They are still in the washer...

cece- keep the rain over at your place until tonight. Weather gal said chance of rain every day this week - which probably means no rain at all!! Tomorrow I will need to haul out the hoses again...

hmm never had a fig in my life- oh I take that back- do figgy newtons count? I love those...

I got some things from a co-op running now and my check never got to the co-op gal. Grr, now I have to go to the bank and see what's up!! I'm sure there is a charge to get a copy of my check - almost makes the co-op not worth it...

Well, dishes are calling and beds need making before I head out to the hair dresser...Take care all!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Sarv, I poured Tide directly on the stains before I put the top in the washer. I wasn't sure it was going to work, but I can't see any marks after it dried. If anything would take them out, I would think Pinesol would! If you already washed them once, maybe use something like Spray 'n Wash ? Loved the pics, was this your last camping trip for the year or is there another one coming up?

Cece, no rain here but I looked north off the deck and it sure looks black over Waukesha. We're just off 164 and National Avenue so puff real hard and maybe it will come over this way. We sure could use it. I didn't have much planned for today except maybe sneak in a golf game, so it probably will rain.

I could dust. Nahhhhh. No point in waking the dust bunnies.

Katy, figs sound lovely. We have fruit trees but they are so young and slender, fruit would probably bow them over! We had several apples and a big old pear tree, way back when we had the minifarm, and they were delicious. Our neighbors had cherry trees but they never sprayed and the cherries always had residents inside. Then, the birds would eat them and come over our property and decorate the vehicles. I think it will be a long while before we have fruit to pick...maybe not in my lifetime! Sorry to hear about the poor dog, at least it had a good home for a while. We buried two of our siamese there last year, which is why I will never move again.

Bonnie, I'll get out there and dead head the Stellas today. I thought I should but have been procrastinating. I deadheaded quite a few bloomers yesterday and pulled an occasional weed, should hit the side garden today and do it to the Shastas. My poor hosta in the front, the one that gets four feet across, is getting seriously sunburnt. The pic was taken in June, before it got scalded. We need to dig it up and divide it, and put it where it will get more shade. Poor Mr. B, unrequited love requires his full attention...!

Good luck with the haircut , Sarv, my hair has reached "critical mass" and I need to either cut it or try for a body wave...I fear the perms because I almost always end up with Brillo because they don't listen to me. Its well past my ears, but not long enough to pull back, and I'm sure everyone knows that length is the worst...gotta either get past that point or hack it off!

Ohoh, it's getting pretty dark here....big black slow moving clouds, rain for sure. Thanks Cece!! That means a day with my nose in a book!Did you get your pictures loaded yet? Come on girl, get gutsy!

Where's Elaine? Think I'll give her a call this morning and see what's up.

~~~~ to all, back later...
Lists! I am living by lists! I have a list of things to do when I leave to run errands. I have to buy a small can of white paint to paint the bottom shelf of my metal medicine cabinet. It stays wet in spots from the razors put back in there, until the next use, and ate the paint off and rusted the metal. While I'm doing that, I have to mail raspberry plants and creeping jenny to Just Jen, buy pine straw and work on my brugs on the way back in.
You have to understand the brugs are way downhill from the house so I will park at the bottom of the driveway with all my gear and fertilize & mulch them on the way back in.
Then I have a list of things to do inside. This includes making a pattern for the front of my sofa arms so I can make arm covers, painting the medicine cabinet shelf, and sanding part of my floor where I finally got some old hardened double-sided carpet tape off the floor. I tried to do it without damaging the finish but nothing worked but to brutalize it off. So now a littlle sanding and a little polyurethane. I also have a picture to hang.
My 3rd list is things I have to do for a Heritage Coalition which is working toward having a museum and Heritage Center (interactive stuff).
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
G'Morning everyone.
Sorry to say I think y'all are right about Gracie being preggers. Gonna call animal control today and see what I can do about shots, and later spaying. I suspect it's too late to abort.
My new Harsch fermenting crock http://www.wisementrading.com/foodpreserving/harsch_crocks.htm ( one of two I ordered) came Friday and yesterday my neighbor brought me a bag of pickling cukes. So after I go to town for pickling salt, I'll start a batch of pickles. She also brought a few plums from her brother's tree and said she can get more. I love plums and hope she brings me a bushel!
I have my first zucchini growing and expect an abundance! For 4 years in a row in Asheville I planted squash, and every year the squash borers got them so I had given up on squash. I wish my freezer was here instead of at my sister's in Florida. I could grate zucchini in portions for zucchini bread and freeze until later in the year. Zucchini bread makes such nice homemade gifts.
BBL, Mike is bringing me some gas so I can get to town.
Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Its still dark here. I didn't want the rain this morning. I don't like using the dryer. Oh well.
No haven't got gutsy yet. My camera came with disc to put on the computer. I just haven't tried it yet. Chicken....too 'fraid I'll mess up the computer and the camera. Then I'm out of luck. Ya know? Well dryer buzzed. bl Cherie
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Good morning all. Have had my coffee and read the paper. Need to get dressed and attack a 5 gallon bucket of tomatos that we picked last night. They will be juice. Mr. B is still out by the dog run, so I guess I will need to take his breakfast out to him, and try to convince him that getting in the dog run is a lost cause!! He will never believe me!!
DH took a neighbor to Louisville, where she will have surgery on a broken wrist. Probably will be a long boring day for him.
Will check back later. ~~~ to all. Hope you have a great day.
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Cece, just slap the disc in!! Most of them lead you right through the process in such a simple direct way that even I can understand it! It will make you very happy. Trust me. LOL Do it now!!
Back from getting my hair whacked off- looks pretty good- I told her to cut the sides short (she likes to leave them long) Last month, despite me telling her to whack them shorter, she left them long. I promptly went home and did it myself. Today she said 'Oh my gosh, did I leave a big wad of hair behind your ears- I laughed, it was hair I hadn't cut!!'
Then to the bank to see where my co-op check went- didn't clear, so I assume it is floating in the mail system. While I was there I checked into online bill paying....I think I will give it a try.
cece- for heavens sakes load that disc. I am the most computer illerate and even I could figure out what to do when I got my new camera - I'm sure it will go smoothly.
Darius is gonna be a grandma..... LOL I've never grown zucchinis- always meant to give it a try. Even my cukes croaked this year- a first... Love zucchini bread tho.... What'd ya do - let your wheels run out of gas???
It is windy now and getting cloudier...maybe some rain...I need to get the brugs a shot of fertilizer - but first need to munch on something....BBL
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Tomatoes are on the stove cooking, heading out to give Mr. B his breakfast, and try to talk him into coming in. Need to run some errands today, that is after the tomatoes are done. Neighbor having surgery, (outpatient) so will make something for their supper tonight. Full busy day. BTW is is sunny and cooler, so it probably will be a very good day.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Good morning folks,
Well I've been out to Aquafit and back. Talked to my friend and we'll meet at the Noon concert and have lunch after.
DH took my car back to dealer and they will check the windshield wipers. They are so sluggish, in addition to making noise, that if I got caught in a thunderstorm I'd be in trouble. I'll take his car to him and he'll drop me off at the bus to go downtown. Unless I want to get to the concert venue early enough to get into the small church parking lot (maybe 10 am for a noon concert) or pay a fortune in parking lot or parking meter fees, the bus is often the best option. There is a very good express bus from a neaby shopping centre, but if I leave my car there I risk a ticket. I have a staff access card to the National Arts Centre parking lot and will use it if I'm going to be downtown all day - it allows me in and out access with one low daily rate. But today, it's just two concerts.
Bonnie - great job on the thread. Is it a relief or a disappointment that you didn't catch fish with all those you've had to freeze in the past?
Katy - your figs sound good.
Bonnie - my Italian hairdresser has a fig tree which produces, but he's got it protected somehow.
Sorry about the rain, cece. Hope it doesn't last all day.
Sarv - sounds like your peppers are doing well. Some of mine are. Others are mixed in with my 4 o'clocks. I got the small plants mixed up and even after I planted them I couldn't tell which were which. those that are mixed up are likely to be shaded too much by the plants next to them to produce good peppers, but we'll see. Hope you get a good haircut. (I see you did. that was fast - before I even got to the bottom of the thread. LOL)
woodspirit1 - sounds like you have quite a list. Would some sort of plastic tray in your medicine cabinet help prevent you from needing to paint again in short order?
Darius - happy pickling. And good luck with Gracie.
Well, off to put in a load of laundry, hang up swimsuit to dry and rinse out the two red volunteer T-shirts so they are ready to go tomorrow when I'm working at 3 concerts.
Hope you all have a fruitful day.
Ann
Everson, WA(Zone 8a)
Sarv big plants few peppers hmm. Fresh grass clippings act like a continual fertilizer bath of nitrogen which promotes lush vegatation. If you want to use grass clippings for mulch best not for peppers or tomatoes which just don,t appreciate to much fertilizer. I will use clippings to mulch trees and shrubs but only use it sparingly for most veggieswith the exception of corn which is a nitrogen hog lol hard to give it to much.
Maria is having a good visit yesterday she went to a garden tour that Linda helps with every year with the proceeds going to the relay for life cancer fund. Maria went with my motherlaw and Lindas friend Shirley Linda herself helped at one of the gardens she had a very long day. Tomorrow they are going on a boat ride through the islands to a quaint island town for lunch and shopping I think. When fishing I have blown right past that place never bothering to stop because fish was on my agenda lol any way I hope they see some Killer Whales they are so neat to see.
Somermoone is coming this morning to pick cherries and bring us some crab I think we will have some nice lunch today. Who wants to come? we have wonderful choices number one on the list is fresh tomatoe sands but then maybe a nice crab louie who knows maybe I will just pronounce every man for himself.
Darius I see another excaliber in your future I still haven't gotten around to getting one sigh and we had a bumper crop of sweet cherries than I would have liked to try. I have friends that are vegitarians and they do all kinds of things.
Ceece lol even I the non computer garu managed to figure it out. I can't even play our stero or set the clock in my truck but if I can manage to get the pics going you can do it twice as fast.
Ok enought of this time to get off my rear and do something useful like tilling some weeds into oblivion. Have a great day all . Ernie
Wow, ernie that's a really big weed!! And it picks peppers and tomatos for you!! What a little cutie. Ann, that's a good transportation plan, if we had decent bus service I'd be inclined to use it rather than burn gas but I would still have to drive 12 miles to town! We're just too far out. I'm watching the gauge constantly. And for some reason, DH is preferring me to drive, lately. Hmmmm. Might have to top off from those five gallon cans in the garage. . . . .
Going backout with my clippers, no rain, blew right past us.
Hi all~ Woke up to a cool sunny morning, got stalls cleaned, a little fiddling with the gardens. now the humidity is building and I don't like being in the sun. LOL this is with a heat index in the 80's. Can you tell i'm a northerner?
katy-glad you got through the funeral and the kids are okay with it. Figs sound wonderful!
m5-Beautiful bouquet. here's another one for you "Let sleeping dustbunnies lie". LOL at haircut reaching "critical mass" That's the truth- one day you wake up and its TIME>
sarv-good sport about the bumper cars. I get enough of that kind of action just driving around parking lots and trying to parallel park!!
darius! SO glad you got the Harsch pot. I'm looking longingly at mine, waiting for the pickling cucumbers to be ready. It takes forever, and then you have thousands in one week, and then they seem to get ahead of me. Happens every year. I need to plan two plantings. Please keep me posted on how it works out. I'll give you a call sometime that seems a "reasonable" (?) hour. i never know what that is for anyone else. Good luck with Gracie.
Ann-Hope you're enjoying the all the concerts. The weather is so hugely improved over last week, I can imagine it being fine without air conditioning.. Yesterday morning was 58 here! The evening was just beautiful. I was too beat to even walk outside though!
Hi to Bonnie (I am now aiming for 1 1/2 acres of veggies!!) cece, I01 (hope you're out somewhere having fun, not stuck in with arm problems or worse),woodspirit, CARAT (how's DH?), McCool, Twyla (hope your'e better too ) and everyone else I've missed on this round!!
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Ernie-Oh boy, I'm jealous....sorry. Crab and cherries and all those tomatoes....sigh.....
I LOVE my excalibur! Sweet cherries weren't my favorite to dry, they're a lot of work to pit and halve and they tasted like raisins (which are not my favorite). I do bushels of apples, Gala being my favorite, or maybe Mutsu which is almost pineapple tasting. Dried pineapple is wonderful, and I mail pkgs. of it to my DD at college where she can't get good fruit in winter. Pears are also excellent, and hard to find in the stores.
I highly recommend dried fruit for mailing as gifts or care packages! It costs almost nothing to mail and is usually very appreciated.
Now, if only you could dehydrate some crab....I once made the best soup of crab, asparagus, and white wine...
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Good morning.
Katym, I'm sorry to hear that you lost your dog. I just hope the end was quick. Sometimes when they are found by the side of the road they never knew what hit them. Pet funerals are a good idea, it helps children (and grownups) close that chapter and go on. Will you put some memorial plant on the grave?
Darius, I hope that you can get some help with the cat/maternity expenses. After all, she was a stray you took in, so maybe animal control will help. If not, maybe there is an inexpensive spay/neuter clinic you could take her to, but it looks like kitties in the meantime. I was thinking when I saw the picture you posted that she looked unusually plump for a hungry/starving cat. Did you feel little wiggly things? Does she look like she is getting ready to feed kittens?
Ernie, thanks for the update on Maria's vacation. It looks like she is getting to see a good variety of things.
Today is going to be hot like yesterday, so I had better do what I need to before it gets near 100. See you later.
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
Morning! Last night had to do some power cleaning. DFL is coming for van repair 8-8:30. He will be here earlier.I'm kind of catching up for the weekend.
M5-saw your pictures will be so pretty when it fills in. Sometimes it is so hard to wait. Thanks on the flour. Also didn't know hail was full of nitrogen. NO plants beaten downjust some holes.
lauriewilson Loved the arm story. My DH is the same. Says surgery before glasses
carat Hope DH is doing better
Darius floors look goodSo much work. Makes you feel good when you can see what you have done.
sarv48 Cats are so funny. Leave for a few days and it's the end of the world. This morning iI walked thru the greenhouse and left the door to the garage open and leon and furby went in there. I was going back out and Furby was playing with a baby snake. We have mostly grass snakes up here but I have to check and see if it was a pine snake. He seems okay! Will check on him in a little while. Shivers!!!!!!!!!
katym sorry about your dog and glad the kids are okay. It's always hard losing one.
defoecat Poor Mr.B
woodspirit Lists do help. I should do that many maybe I wouldn't get so side tracked during the day.
eweed Nice tomates. Mine are just starting to ripen. Cute helper! I was hoping my DN would be up for part of the summer. Love that child labor. She's a good kid and loves to help.
I was right my DFI showed up at 7:30 this morning. DHwas working on the van and went to the neighbors to water. That is finally going good after I figured it all out. Gave DFI some zucchini and cukes for DMI. She only put in some tomatoes.
At8:30 it was humid and 75 out. don't know what it is now. Just humid. no rain in sight.
hope everyone is getting the weather they need.
In for lunch and soaking wet....dripping down my neck and off my brow... I was putting alphafa tea on things - they look like they need a boost after a week of high 90's.
Ernie, I've been putting grass clippings on the peppers for years and have wondered why my pepper count was down - also have put them by the tomatoes and have had bumper crops. go figure... This year we just didn't have the clippings - so nothing around the plants. Everything is so late here - we'll be getting fresh produce in Sept.. (maybe next year DH will get his butt in gear earlier!) By the way= I'll come for dinner anytime!! Tell Maria we miss her. How long has she been at your house? Seems like a week or more...
M5- My DH always wants me to drive - probably because I end up shreeking when he drives. Plus, if I drive he can snooze (which annoys me!) I've been known to pump the brakes to jar him LOL
Vi- laughed about the 4 o'clocks and peppers mixed together - sounds like something I would do~~ I've been collecting seeds from my o'clocks already. Just love them - they flower non stop for me.
I have a new book that has been hollaring at me- I may just read a chapt or two..
Dmc... Lesson #1 on the Harsch crock... put the weights on BEFORE adding the brine! I didn't and it was a mess until it cooled enough to get my hands in the brine and re-distribute all the spices, onions, and especially the dill which tended to float up.
Off to get another gallon of floor paint. I think I am finally finished with all the staples, thankfully, although priming always shows up a few I missed.
I'll stop at the animal shelter on my way out and see what they have to say about Gracie. The Dog Catcher's office in town was no help except to say call a Vet.
Hi everyone
I haven't had time to go back and catch up on everything I've missed out on the past couple of days, but have been pretty busy with the DH home. Had some company also and you know how that is with those extra things to do. :-) Have been running around getting clothes washed up. Had a luncheon with some friends today with chicken salad, broccoli salad, fruit and homemade cinnamon rolls. Yum!
Oh it's great to see sarv back and I'm waving hard at you! ~~~~
Any report on Casy's DH?
I read someone lost their dog and am so sorry to hear that.
Defoe, you're busy as usual! :-) Pat Mr. B on the head next time you go outside to check on him. LOL
Hi Maria ... so sorry I've missed your phone calls. I was getting in the car on Sat and must not have gotten it secured on the belt clip ... because as I closed the door I heard a crunching sound. Yep, you guessed it. It was my cell phone. It didn't destroy it, but it is *defintely having probs. Please call the house, not my cell.
Darrius, did I hear you're gonna be a Grandma? *smile* Oh, and sorry about your finger.
Well, we just had a bad storm come through and I've been powered down for a couple of hours today. Now got to get ready for PT. I will just have to wave to everyone else for now.
Back from the Animal Shelter. They gave me a $25 voucher towards spaying. I have to pay the rest and pay for the shots. Bad news is that I have to take Gracie to Wytheville, about 35 miles north of here. She will go as soon as I can get an appointment, providing I can get her in the cat carrier.
Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)
Hi all, wanted to pop in real quick and say HI. Don't have time to read the posts though. Hope everyone is doing okay.
DH is doing better and physically is improving daily. I wish his mentally attitude would change to a more positive note but I think he is in so much pain that he can't see past that at the moment.
I have my own doctor appointment today. Just an annual check up but I still hate going. Then grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions for DH and then to drop of a box at UPS to be shipped out.
Its quite warm today, the thermometer says 118. Little to no humidity though. But still I think the gardening will have to wait until after the sun starts to go down. I have been known to weed by the light of the silvery spotlight at midnight.
Anyone familiar with wineberries? http://www.roanoke.com/columnists/macy/wb/wb/xp-73329
Mike is going to take me to pick wineberries this evening if we don't get rained out!
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Hi again. Patch got his theraputic ride, I got a few broken bales of hay in the back of the pickup, and the thermometer got up to 90, that's in the shade of course. It's much hotter out there in an open hayfield. While riding this morning I saw a coyote and a badger. Patch is ok with the coyotes, but the badger is something he would rather avoid. On our way back home I talked to my neighbor about getting more hay and when he said there were broken bales in the upper field I went to get them right away without thinking about how hot it was. That's a job I would rather do in the cooler part of the day. It is oat hay with some alfalfa and some weeds.
Wineberries, interesting. Darius, are you going to make a pie, cobbler or wine? Any of that sounds good to me. Gracie might go in the carrier easier if you put her in tail end first and she doesn't see where she is going. The trip will give you a new place to explore, or have you been there already? Can you bring her home the same day or have to make another trip the next day? That would almost use up the $25 voucher just for the gas.
Elaine, sorry to hear about the cell phone getting crunched. Better than your hand or foot. How's the therapy going?
Now that I have cooled off I need to go move a sprinkler and fiddle with the gravity flow irrigation water in the vegie garden, and pull more of the weeds down there before they shed their seeds. Might get the hay unloaded too, or wait on that until sundown. See ya later.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Darius - how is your finger doing? Doesn't seem to slow you down any; so I hope that means it's improving.
Got to the noon concert and had a good lunch with my friend after we dropped to trumpet soloist (Jens Lindemann) off at his hotel. My friend's husband was principal trumpet of the NAC orchestra for many years before he developed lip problems and Jens is a personal friend. BTW, he's a former member of the Canadian Brass, now living and working in Los Angeles and probably the top trumpet soloist in North America if not the world. If you ever get a chance to hear him, go. He's funny as well as being a first rate musician.
Audi dealer's driver came and collected me downtown to get my car. As someone who has dealt with this dealership since 1970 when they were a small family owned garage, the growth of the business to a point where you get personal pick-ups is something I still have trouble getting used to. But I decided it sounded better than taking the bus. LOL
Well, off to other things.
Mary, Gracie will go in between 8 and 9 am, Friday Aug. 4th, and be released between 4 and 5 pm the same day. Don't know how to entertain myself all day in a new but small town. I'm told there is a good real farmer's market not too far from that town, maybe 15 miles.
She hasn't eaten much today, not even finished her breakfast, so I'm concerned.
My gardens are so dry... I should run the sprinklers too but the sky is dark. Probably rain the moment I turn them on so I think I shall wait until early tomorrow. Got the rest of the LR floor cut in, decided to do the roller part in the morning. The top coat paint won't be in until late Wednesday... just as well since I expect the HVAC installers Wednesday.
Well, have finished the tomato juice, had 8 quarts and a pint. Not much, but glad those tomatoes didn't go to waste. When making juice would rather do a vast amount, because the clean up is the same for 8 quarts as it is for 30 quarts. Will be canning for DMIL and DM as well as me. DH was just in and said that we have corn ready, so it will probably be a corn marathon tomorrow. DGD is coming back tonight, so hope she will be a little help.
Working on something to eat, so will be back later to try to comment on all your activities today.
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
Temp is 92 Got a rain shower. cloudy again.
Supper is lettuce and fresh cuke salad, scalloped potatoes and fresh green beans. Dessert is a strawberry and rhubarb cake with ice cream. Plenty for anyone not wanting to cook!!!
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Got good and hot here today too, hit 90 by noon. So much for the overcast sky, and promise of rain. And it's windy! Weatherman says thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow,but I don't even take him seriously anymore.
Threw together a tuna salad for dinner, and I've got half a round of Rosemary/Olive Oil bread to heat up. Used one of those tiny half-size cans of albacore because I don't want to be eating tuna salad for lunch for the next two days. It's been so hard for me to cut down on quantity in making salads. Main course meals can usually be frozen if there's too much, but salad you are stuck with for the duration.
Darius, a $25 coupon is better than nothing....if she's not eating, she might be ready to pop those babies out. They aren't likely to be healthy if she's been out on her own for a while. The backwards loading in the carrier sounds like a good idea, or else you can try a mummy wrap with a towel. That is, if you've found your towels.... Poor Gracie, homeless and preggers, sounds like a soap opera,....lucky she found you. I haven't seen wineberries here, but we have dewberries, which are darker in color and very sweet ...comes from the blackberry/raspberry family, with a similar flavor.
You had a busy weekend, Elaine, between company and PT, and DH home. We were missing you!
Ugh, started cleaning out the freezer since tomorrow is trash pickup and there were some things that had dehydrated too much to be usable. That's the only problem with self-defrosting 'frigs and freezers, everything has to be double wrapped and sometimes it gets a tear and air can get in.
Bonnie, you are so right about the mess...whether it's just a few quarts or many, the clean up is the same. I do a lot of that kind of thing out on the deck, where I can hose off the damage! I'm not the neatest cook in the world, so the floor ends up looking like a swamp if I'm doing a big batch of tomato in the Victorio. Your pantry is going to look like an old time cellar at the rate you are putting things up. The place where I buy bi-color sweet corn has their sign up, but I'm betting the ears are really small this early. Or they bought them from a vendor down your way.
Sammi and Olivia had a race for the empty tuna can, and Olivia won. She didn't do a thorough job, so Sammi still got his taste. It's not good for them to have large amounts so licking out the leftovers from the can is just about right. Now she's got tuna breath....pheww!!
Mary, I'd sure wait until the sun is low on the horizon before I messed with the hay....chaff sticks like glue to sweat! Is Breezy's cough all gone?
Gotta go DH wants me to proof read a letter he's writing to the guy who bought his DB;s car......this should be good.
smack smack smack - that's my lips - I just finished a big bowl of fresh beans= the first of the summer here. Oh, they were like candy... Had a hot dog smothered with onions etc. Yum
Defoe- your canning amazes me. I only do tomaotoes, tom. juice, grapes juice and new this year cherry juice. I gave up beans and corn and carrots. Do you have to buy any veggies in the winter?
DGS and DIL came over tonight to pickup DGS bike - with a flat tire. He had a tube for DH to put in. All went well, but DH said the bike is on its last leg...And he rode it around the lake while we were camping- 8 mi trip!! DIL heard the heart beat of the new baby today..doc said a 'girl'
Darius - is Gracie far enough along to deliver??? Poor gal.. It. is so dry here too. Showers are forecast, but we have a drying wind blowing and it is sapping all the moisture right out of the ground. I did see some DL pods - I'm going to give a try at seed starting - any words of wisdome regarding these?
VI- nice to have 'personal pickups!' our local dealership used to give out loaners, but that went by the wayside. Seems like when we got them they were always on empty!!
Carat- I must have missed something-what happened to your DH? How long will you be in SC?
I'll get out the butter pecan ice cream and the hot fudge- help yourself - the weather is so hot everyone needs a treat...
Cherie - I love country music, too. But then everyone pretty much loves country music here in Redneck USA! LOL
I didnt get off of work until 7 pm tonight and my hours are 8-5. Boss wanted me to work this Saturday and I said 'no can do' so I had to at least work extra today. Mortgage business is so busy this time of year!
Was just looking over a july issue of better homes and gardens mag. and there is a wonderful article in there on container gardening, which is mainly what I am in to.
Thanks for the condolences on the dog. She will be missed.
BBL, Katy
