Chat room

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

When is the chat room open? I think it should be open more often (like right now - since I am bored)... at least have it open on the weekend nights. (Or is it and I just missed it somewhere)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Michaels,

Chat is open from 6pm to 11pm (?) on Tuesday nights and from 6am to 11am on Thursday mornings.

Those times might be extended to 12 on both days, but I forget.

Thanks Molly. I wish they would open it a few more days of the week - or at least on weekend evenings.

I was in the chat on Tuesday night - and found it to be quite entertaining (at Critterologist's expense, however).

We tried having 24/7, un-moderated chat room when we first started chat (a long time ago ;o)

It didn't work - people were abusing it. That's when we went to a moderated chat setup, and since Dave and Trish do the moderating, it's limited to a few times a week so they can still have time to spend with their family ;o)

Michael, it was really nice to meet you in chat the other night. We found you to be a good sport, fun to chat with and very good humored. I have to say, in the five years I have been here and been a frequent chatter, I have never seen anyone get an entrance quite like yours. LOL I guess we have to keep you now. :)

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

Ohhh - dont tell my family that! They think its 'normal' to put plants before them. :)

I still wish I hadn't missed that part of the chat. I went on break and never did fully get what was going on. It could be because I was trying to do three things at once that day, but...

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

I don't participate as much as I have in chat, but I have enjoyed it.

I was just there and seem to have missed some folks.. Oh well!

Reading "Up" as the text appears is counterintuative to everything I have ever done whether online or elsewhere. It is very odd and actually bothersome enough for me to come here and say something about it.

Also, a simple hit of the return key was enough to send my message before the change.. Now, I need to grab the mouse and click on send.. It was better before when I could just hit the return key.

soulgardenlove get Mozilla Firefox ! You can find a download button for it at the bottom of almost every forum here at DG. It is VERY easy to install and then you just have to hit the enterbutton like before in chat.
I use Firefow for DG and the Chat and you can still keep your IE or what ever you use.

Yes Janet.. The odd thing is that I already did this and I was very greatful that my computer seemed to go faster after install, but for some odd reason I still had to click on the return button to send my message and it still reads backwards or from the top.

The new chat is "upside down" from the old if thats what you mean. All new post comes at the top in the Chatroom. Why you still have to hit the send button, havent the foggiest why. Maybe you can get help from Admin.

Upside down is odd! Yes, thanks!

I too wish it was open more, but do understand about the family time. Maybe some of the uber users or others could volunteer moderator time? I don't know if that's even possible, but some folks are here most all the time and are very decent people who would surely love to oversee a live chat for an hour or two.
I also would like to see the enter button send the message. It was fumbly to have to go click the mouse and then put the cursor back into the message box.
Love Daves Garden though. Please never take it down.

Oh I miss that feature to where you could just hit "enter" and your text would go to the chat! I like to disgard my mouse as often as possible!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmm..how weird. I was in chat for a few minutes the other day and when I hit my "enter" button it went right into chat.

I have Firefox, Win2K. It worked great for me.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I think it only does that in Firefox though, Shoe. I prefer IE and when I was in chat I had to use the mouse to post a reply too.

I already have more chat time on my Christmas list......please Santa (aka Dave)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I am with you . . weekend chat would be great seeing a lot of us are at work when the Thur chat time is so if I miss the Tue chat (really easy to do) I am out of luck.

Emmaus, PA(Zone 6a)

Maybe there could be more then just 2 mods for the chat? so it may be open a bit more?
Just a thought from this end. :)

Here's my tuppenceworth.

Chat is generally friendly and lively because it's only open twice a week for a limited time and we (well most of us) know it's monitored by Dave or Trish.

If we have volunteer moderators then there are the problems of timing, a member could say that they will do Wednesday 7pm for an hour but what if they need to be out or end up not bothering and not tell Dave and Trish? Would using a moderator create resentment among the membership using the chatroom because one moderator is more lax in their idea of what's suitable than another who is perhaps too stringent? If the chat was open several days a week wouldn't we keep having the same conversations over and over again until we got so bored with each other trouble starts?

Both chat times are at a very inconvenient time for me but I do prefer it the way it is now. I remember when it was open all the time and although we have many more members now, I still think that there would be a lot of time the room wasn't used. It's good to be able to save up some news to discuss with friends at a time when you know they are most likely to be around.

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Great with me. Okay, then can it at least read from top to bottom, as that is how all people have read all their lives?? And have the return key work instead of having to click on the mouse?
:)
