Coffee...and for July 15, 2006
Okay, I can tell you what I was doing 41 years ago tonight. I started labor about this time. I was up all night, and made the trip to the hospital about 7:30 a.m. This was pre airconditioning days, and the temps reached 103 that day, with only a fan and an open window to help. My son, was born at 6:14 p.m, on July 15, 1965. He weighed 5lb 4oz, and was the ugliest baby I have ever seen. He was 21 inches long, not a hair on his head, and looked like a little old man. A major improvement has happened over the years, as he is a pretty good looking young man. Pic to follow.
Okay everybody, good night, will see you in the morning.
Your son is 41,he was tiny and has grown up your a proud Mother as you have a good young man there... i weighd 5lbs. my daughter is 42, son be 44 in Nov. .. long time isn't it??It makes me think I'am old which I'am..take care be well.. Hello & night everyone , i have the headache yet to.. so up..have good week end..blessings all.
Twyla

Okay Lost my post and I wasn't even done typing. Start all over.
Good morning to all! Sent hubby off to work and here I am. Plans for this weekend? Well with the rain we got yesterday I'll be weeding today. They multiply so quickly after a rain.
Will turn AC on finally with 93 forcasted in Mil it will be 96, 96 here. Tomorrow Waukesha will be almost 100 so AC needs to be on. It hasn't really been hot here. Humid . I can take the hot I love the hot, the humidity that is a diiferent story altogether.
Rest of the weekend is play it by ear. Might go downtown for the bike races. Then there's the Main St block paarty. A local band thats been around forever is playing. uh, I don't know maybee will just hole up in the house in jammies and watch tv all day .
Need more coffee. BB.
Mornin'
Success again, Bonnie! Hope your hip feels better this morning. Our bodies always let us know when we've done them wrong!
Oh, hot hot hot here too. My plan is to stay inside as much as possible, altho I might venture out to pick up the early editions of the Sunday papers and then come back home and stay inside where it's cool. I hate it when the temp gets this high, humidity or no. My DS on the other hand thrives on it after living in Thailand, Formosa and other heat zones, and uses it as an opportunity to bake, paint, etc. Have I mentioned that my DS is insane?
I'm totally brain dead this morning, so I'm going to settle for a long~~~~~~ at everyone and check in later to see what's going on.
Sheila
I just went for the paper in th mailbox. Am gonna go and do some weeding before it gets bad outside. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ to everyone and I'll be back in awhile. Bye:) Cherie
Morning everyone!
VAnn, Jo (RoadRunner) makes a headband with those water crystals in it. You soak it, chill it if you want, and man does it keep you cool. Another DG friend (LizH, related to RoadRunner) made me one and I love it.
The creek has gone down some but more storms in the forecast today and tomorrow. We are in the 100 year flood plain and have flood insurance. The next door neighbor has lived here 50 years and has never seen flood waters up to the house or over our bridge. I keep pretty well stocked so I'm not worried. Should get more bottled water though. I can always draw water from the spring to flush, LOL.
Off to Bristol (45 miles) to Sam's, then my sister comes tonight. I doubt I will be online much after she gets here and leaves Wednesday morning.
Have a great day!
Morning all
Well, it's already 86 and that's not counting the humidity. Feels like you can slice the air outside. Am sure hoping and praying for some rain this week-end as there's a tiny chance in the forcast.
Twyla, hope you feel better when you wake up today.
Defoe, so sorry about your hip and hope you have a better day today, also. :-)
Ann, speaking of feeling better ... sure hope you're on the mend also.
Katy, how is your DS doing? I sure hope his fever has come down.
McCool, was glad to hear your DH is on the mend but know it is boring for him. Please tell him to take care of himself and not undo all the progress he's done so far by being on the move too soon. :-)
Darius, hope you have fun with your sister. I bet she's really gonna love seeing her new home and all that you've done with it in such a short time.
I think I overdid yesterday as I did some washing, stayed on the computer a bit and did some housework. By the end of the day yesterday when I did my exercises ... my shoulder and arm was hurting pretty bad, so I'm planning to take it a bit easier today. I *really* had a rough night last night and don't want a repeat. Well, CRS has set in again so I'll just ~~~ to everyone else for now. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Getting hot here too. Just came in from weeding 'bout 45 min ago. At 9:15 it was 82 degrees in the shade on my patio. Humid too. Will go back again as soon as I'm unlazy. I'm having a terrible time with the garlic mustard. It seems to grow over night and I really don't like it in my flower beds. I've uninvited it every day and it just won't go away. Its even growing through the weed cloth we put down to tackle weeds from under the side of the garden shed. Doesn't know when its not wanted??
Hope every one feels tip top shape real soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~to everyone else.
Hi everyone!! I'm on this borrowed computer again with the satellite thingy - it is a real small compuier with a mini keyboard- hard for me to get used to.
The weather here has been so so hot. We just got back from an art fair- didn't buy a thing except an ice cream cone (now you all knew I would do that! LOL) There were 31 people here last night for the campfire- packed group, but oh so much fun!!
Today it is supposed to be so warm that I plan just to sit in my easy chair and read and play on this thing...I'm fearing my gardens will be toast when I return home
Well, I'm off to catch up on the forums I'm missed!!
Will do, IO1. Just promise you will send the rain back my way once I get the window fixed so my poor plants will get some attention. =)
katy - could you blow toward the middle of the clouds so that they split and half goes to IO1 and half comes my way? Just a thought.
ginni
tgif- LOL!! I will be very cautious about the directions I am blowing.
I think the last time it rained here was about 3 weeks ago and I just sat on the porch watching it for a while since I hardly ever see it this year. DH was laughing at me "havent you ever seen rain before?"
Going to start making the brownies now. Baby is fast asleep...hopefully for a LONG nap. LOL Mommy needs a break =)
hope everyone is feeling better soon. have a good day and stay cool.
Good afternoon all. I was up at 5:30, the result of going to bed earlier, and thanks for the well wishes, the hip is much better today. Needed a run to the library and to get a card and gift bag for a house warming tomorrow afternoon. When I got home, put on the swimsuit, went out and vacuumed the pool, and swept the walls. In between did a little weeding, and staked one tomato, and took a walk through my daylilies. That walk was barefoot, as it is so muddy there. We had more rain during the night, so we are pretty well fixed for awhile. However, if it stays this hot, 97 right now, we will need more before long. I think the pool is gonna work out fine, when I am out working, getting hot, take a break and get in the pool, cool off, and back to work.
Hope everyone that is ill, or not feeling up to par, takes today to rest and begin to feel better.
Not gonna comment to anyone, as I have to plan what is for supper tonight and dinner tomorrow after church.
BBL
Oh stupid sale plant addicted me....I stopped by the garden center and they had geraniums and caladium marked down to fifty cents, and some perennials for $2.50 so I filled my trunk and then of course I had to plant them oh wow is it HOT outside. I hung sheets this morning too, so I had to bring those in. At any rate it's all planted in the ground and I'm not buying another thing! And I'm not going outside again unless the house catches on fire.
Hope everyone who tending the ailing has them cured by nightfall, and if you are the ail-ee, I hope you feel much better than yesterday.
I might have a couple of visitors from DG tomorrow! They are going to a Hosta shindig in a suburb here. We'll see, time has a way of slipping away.
Elaine, take care of that arm!! Keep messing around and we'll be coming after you with the two by four. How are your tomatos surviving the heat? We have a few of the small yellow pears already on one plant, it came up all by itself, but I bought two others that are slowly making progress.
Gardens look kind of boring right now, the roses are all done, the daisies finished their first bloom, the allium needs deadheading. The hosta are all sending up flower stalks, and the purple cone flowers are just starting. A few of the mums are starting to flower already, so there will be more color soon. I'm so greedy I want something blooming all the time.
Bonnie, those dianthus are sending up new shoots already! They really are indestructible! I hope they can survive our winter as I put them in spots where they can spread as much as they like.
The Stella d'Oros I put alongside the new garage are blooming too. DH still hasn't noticed that they aren't the ditch lilies he put there. Or maybe he's just not going to mention it!
Olivia is driving me crazy, she wants to be on my lap and I haven't cooled down yet...ugh!! Sticky me and a fur shedding friend...ewww.
Shower. back later.
sheila
Hi there, sticky and thick humidity here. I've chuckled through this whole thread but cece takes the cake:
Will go back again as soon as I'm unlazy
Okay, we took the weedwacker with the brush blade and brush saws up to the farm to clear one of the trails = there are three nice trails that cross the property at different heights on the mountain. They're growing brushy, so we left at 8 and whacked until 11. Might as well have taken a machete,it felt like we were in the jungle. Wish I had a bulldozer.
Now I'm getting groggy from the heat - yesterday I read and napped through the 90's. today I'll just nap, I finished my last book and the library is closed on weekends, yup, just like the car place Katy needs, it's just way to easy to have things open on weekends.
I hope Twyla, Ann, Bonnie, Susan Elaine, and McCool's DH are all feeling better today.
I hope Maria is having a great time....had to laugh at Ernies "the eagle has landed"
i just got in from going to get the mail. yep! i took a detour.went to look at the peas . the lettuce was dry! don't know if it will make it. so i started watering and that was after i did a good one there yesterday. started looking around and saw more wilted plants!!!!! help! well all the dry ones got a drink and i hope that holds them for a few hour. thought i was going to melt out of my clothes.
maybe i don't want to water the neighbors plants if i'm having such problems with mine. yes!yes! i will. can't stand to see a plant die needlessly.
maybe if we all do a weather dance at the same time for the type of weather we need it would work?? okay maybe i have a little heatstroke!
Yes, I am having a great time, the weather is just perfect, in the very low 70's if it gets a little bit warmer everyone complains, lol. it is a big difference from Massachsetts, I think I shall move here. HA HA..not
Ernie is always working in his garden, he has to there is so much of it, it is beautiful, every time I take a walk through it I discover something new.
bye for now
dmc, I noticed that too, I sort of thought it sounded like some exotic disease.
Well, just got a call from my DB. Years ago he talked me into buying an antique handgun in partners with him. I have had it photographed and appraised, and it has just been sitting here. Well, he wants to buy my half of it, and offered me $500 more than I paid, so I guess that is the windfall for this month.
M5, glad the dianthus is taking off. Come spring, you can smell it for a mile. It is the sweetest smelling flower I have ever seen. I stopped by Lowes on Thursday, and thought they would have some periennals for sale, they were marked down, but not enough yet. They had some annuals marked down, some were almost gone, but still had a high enough price that they will croak there.
Well, we were gonna take DS and DSGF out to dinner tonight, but they just called and said that they went out for lunch, and are still full. So we will do something the first of the week.
I got out a while ago and used some roundup on a couple of spots. Said wait until the temperatures were hot, well if it don't work today, it will never work. It is close to 100 here.
I have the prettiest daylily blooming today. It is called Playful Pixie, which dmc sent me this spring. Thanks again dmc, she is a beauty.
DH is mowing lawns this afternoon, sure hope he doesn't get too hot.
Well gonna go straighten the kitchen, and hope that we go out to eat, so it will stay that way.
BBL
If I wait until I get unlazy, I will never do anything. LOL
Went out and watered and thought I was gonna keel over it's so hot. DH came to check on me after awhile to see if I had. I was dizzy and sweating so hard and so thirsty. So he brought me a nice cup of ice water. He is sweet. Now you are probably thinking, why isn't he out there watering? Well, he works hard enough all through the week in the heat and all these hosta are MINE so they are mine to water. I'm sure he would do it if I asked. He waters the garden which is big, and mulches, and mows, does more than I ever would in this kind of weather.
We had fried green tomatoes last night for supper with corn I had just put up and a baked pork chop. Was yummy! Oh of course a nice big cucumber for me. We are covered up with Gadzukes squash wish I could mail it out. LOL Look out if your address is in the exchange. J/K
I have been carting large grocery bags full of cucumbers, yellow squash pattipan squash and the gadzukes to the shelter(SPCA) every week when I go to pick up the bills (I am the treasurer) so now when I walk in the door they say where are the groceries.
We are stuck in the 100's for the forseeable future. ugh...no rain either. That rain we got the other day sure helped, but it also helped raise the humidity so now it is unbearable.
I sure hope Twyla has a/c cause she is sure gonna suffer if she doesn't. And I sure hope she starts feeling better.
Elaine, I tried to read all the back threads to see what you did to yourself but couldn't find it. So what did you do to yourself??? I heard rotator cuff in there someplace. I sure hope NOT!! eeek
Well, just wanted to talk a little bit, so better go try to finish a birthday present I am cross stitching. The birthday is the 18th, think I will make it??? Still has to be mailed too. I always do things this way. ugh
Susan
=^..^=
Oh Susan that supper sounds great...with all these heat it sure feels like summer, but no ripe tomatoes yet, no cukes for me ( I lost my first planting). Cukes are still in the $1.00 range for rather tasteless ones! Hopefully fresh corn will be available soon. Mine will be awhile, but some of the farmers got theirs in earlier.
I just woke up from a nap and have a great big iced coffee with vanilla ice cream on top. And I read somewhere that people are fat because of A/C. Haha! Look what you do without it! sleep and eat ice cream!!
Hi . Didn't melt yet . I got unlazy (you like that huh DMC?) and finished with the worst of the garlic mustard that invades me life, water my containers not once but twice and then went grocery shopping. Everything bought has the main ingredient called grilling!!! I'm not going to turn the oven on for anybody. DH tried to make me believe that we had important people coming to dinner I saifd oh well brats on the grill. He said even President Bush? yeah right. But if he was to truly come here he'd eat what ever I put in front of him. For me, chocolate icecream seems to be the order of the day. Too hot for anything else.
Tried very hard to talk myself out of trying to obtain martagon lilies. Hasn't worked. I want them more than ever now. I'll dream about them now. I dream about them they're here. End of story
Sheila, My roses are still in bloom and so are my Shastas. My purple conflowers have been in bloom a couple weeks now and my Blk-eyed Susans I noticed the buds are open now too. You can't have them for color though. I'm stingy until they needed dividing. I'll tell ya' ll something I find it hard to believe. the people who owned this house first didn't have one single flower. Its unfathomable to me. I took care of that quick enough. I've now 13 flower beds with approx. 300 plants. I need flowers. Period.
Do I need more? No. Do I want more? most definately. Martagon lilies in purple red and yellow.
Cece, want to hear something even worse? When we sold our house in New Berlin, we left three raised beds planted with perennials, the patio area planted with roses, iris, black eyed susans, hosta, lilies, mum etc., the front under the windows had a variety of peonies, four oclocks, and the rear of the yard had lilies. etc., I stopped back there in Spring ( we moved in December) to see how everything was doing....the guy had MOWED down EVERYTHING. Tore out the raised beds, absolutely destroyed every living thing except the grass. I hope the roof leaked. This was how the back looked.
I had taken out some of the perennials but our builder buried them, and none survived. Can you imagine anyone taking out plants that require little or no work?
You are very funny Elaine,
Too hot here to do much although I moved a bunch of boxes off the front porch earlier... before I drove to TN (52 miles) to Sam's Club. Spent waaaay to much and didn't get much even at that.
Sister called. She set her alarm for 7 am, turned it off instead of snooze and slept until 10 am so she will be very late getting here.
I finally started Eliot Coleman's book Four-Season Harvest. Boy does he make sense, and I think even I can harvest fresh salads and some veggies all winter long! If he can do it in Maine, surely most of us can.
My pickling cukes (that were supposed to be yellow squash) are making lots of cukes so I bought fresh dill at the farmer's market and I'm ordering a pickling crock or two ASAP.
http://www.canningpantry.com/sauerkraut-crocks.html
KittyMom, around here they advise NOT to leave your car windows open in July and August lest you return to find a car full of squash, LOL.
Oh Shjeilaa did you shoot him???? I think I would have. That is very disturbing. Why would someone do that? All that tells me is........I will die in this house. Then whoever gets it had better take care of my flowes or I WILL haunt them forever. Not ever selling as long as I'malive and I think I'd be able to get pretty scary agfter I die. I would haunt them. Oh You must have been heart broken. After all the work you did and see I've figured out how much work is involved by putting in my own. I just don't understand so,me peopl;e.
That backyard was just beautiful Sheila. I'm heart broken and it wasn't even mine.
I must not be living right because absolutely nothing has worked in my favor this week!!!!! As I said earlier, it hasnt rained here in about 3 weeks. I am sitting here reading your posts a minute ago and it started thundering outside!!!!!! Of course NOW it will rain because my window in the car wont raise up =)=)=)=)
I just had to run out and duct tape a garbage bag over the whole and now my van is looking quite classy. I bet you are all getting a mental picture of it right now.
Ah, katym I'm sorry. things always happen at the most unoppertune time. I've had windows stuck before and the garbage bag trick works, it really does un less the rain is completely horizontal and smashes the bag in??? I'm sorry. Maybe its just thunder and there'll be no rain to speak of?? I'm not helping, am I?
meezers- what a beautiful yard! Some people are just not into flowers, and gardening and such. My husband planted an entire bed of azalea bushes complete with pine straw mulch for in DMIL's yard one year for mother's day. She managed to kill every one of them within about 2 months because it was dry that year and she never watered them ONCE!! It really hurt DH's feelings but he didnt say anything. I thought that was so tacky of her. She made some comment about how she just wasnt good with flowers. (All she had to do was throw some water on them) The bed was right out their back door, too. A short walk with the hose/watering can.
If I had known he planned to do that I would have volunteered to go dig up everything, and bought sod for him to fill in. Idiot. Cretin. And other unmentionable names. If you went back far enough on this thread you'd read about my 4: a.m. raid at dawn, in my commando clothes (all black) when I went to see if there was anything at all left that I could rescue. I was soooo mad! DH said he wouldn't bail me out if the cops got me. Hmmmph, some support system he is.
hi all, mouth very sore queasy sick all night up so only eating crackers but having some coffee so my head is off my chest..hoping its better tomorrow .. be well everyone, safe.. blessings.. Twyla
