Is anyone else still up besides me? I am so exhausted and ususally asleep and dreaming by now, but my 20 mo. old DS has decided not to sleep tonight and so neither can I. Figured I would see what all the DG'ers are doing at this hour. LOL

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Devoe why are all the above post blank? What have you done now when I clicked the link it says err message 373085274899g67hhh2wztp ha ha just kidding.Keep canning beans my mother did that and they were yummy she put vinegar and a bit of sugar in them.

Sarv many years ago I was on a long distance ride tith a unicycle drum and bugle corp when the front tire went flat near Marias house a passing farmer with a load of pigs and chickens gave me a ride on the top of his truck to her house . Richard fixed my tire then filled them with helium I floated home and beat the rest by two days. We have been friends ever since lol who will be the first to pass this test. Now tell me it ain't so tell me you are not eating those coons lol.

Can't sleep - didn't I tell ya this would happen!! Looked at the clock starting at 2:30is am, finally at 4 just got up. Did a few chores on my list and now am just waiting for the sky to lighten- I want to sevin stuff first thing this morning.

Eweed- NO I didn't eat the coons- yuck - I'm not much of a meat eater....now if that was candy or ice cream!!! I did get 2 gal of ice cream at the store yesterday - shame on me.. Plus where we camp there is a little ice cream parlor that we ride our bikes to. Last year I remember trying to swing my leg over my bike (got one of those mountain bikes- bad...) holding onto a big cone in one hand and ended up falling into a bush - but the ice cream survived!! But I laughed so hard I had to change my clothes when I got back to the trailer!! The people all sitting outside on the deck of the parlor got a big chuckle too! Me thinks you are a big story teller too - floating home....

defoe- hooray it worked!!! I'm so proud of you- what in the world did you do different?? DIL has never camped for any amount of time - just two nights with us and of course it was freezing cold and rained the entire time!! Not a good experience...she sends cold and warm weather duds....plus toys... Oh well, I'd rather have too many than not enough clothes I guess!

kat- dressing up - ugh. Just handling all those kids would be enough for me!! I've forgotten, what's DH going to school to become? We;ve never taken big vacations our whole life, but have camped every single year and love it. For several years we went to Fla for spring break- wild and crazy times.

McC - I will probably give in to DH regarding the fishing. He doesn't get to do it often and that is his one love in life. I have my flowers LOL But believe me, I plan on pouting a lot!

Well, it's 5am and I think I'll get dressed- gotta get this day started!!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Good morning all! Great Story Ernie....What a way to meet people ;-)

Hope darius did okay last night and all those hurting are feeling better. Off to the allergist for me.

BBL I hope.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hooray for Bonnie! It worked.

Ernie - that's not nice joshing Bonnie about further errors. LOL

Good morning all. Haven't been up long enough to type correctly; so I'll make this short. I'll be back after some breakfast and coffee. Cold is still with me, but improving.

BBL

Ann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning all! Looks like just about everybody got up before me today!
Congrats, Bonnie! now you have to remember what you did! LOL We had confidence in you, and you stuck with it, so all's well.
Gosh, that's a lot of beans!! When you think of it though, 30 jars per family, isn't all that much to get through a year. I'm still working on sweet corn I froze summer before last, I must have ended up with about a hundred packets and filled the entire bottom basket of my upright freezer. This spring I bought some snow crab legs and with the leftover ones, I made a crab and corn chowder that was sooo good! It's such a treat to have home grown food in the winter months.

I hope that's the end of your 'coons, Sarv, but I'll bet there's more where they came from. I think they are cute, far far away from me. One winter we had a large plastic waste can on the deck, filled with end pieces from the railing DH was putting on. DH left it there, and in spring I was going to take the pieces and put them with the wood pile and the thing was filled with raccoon poo...and the poo was full of the bird seed he'd been stealing out of the feeders. Oh Yuck!! He'd been using it as his toilet...better than all over the deck I suppose but still.......
Can't blame your DIL for not wanting to camp with morning sickness. Plus, I wouldn't want to hear it either.!

Well, that's enough disgusting stuff. Ernie that's a great story, how nice that you met Richard before he passed away. I'm a little skeptical about the floating home part though, you might be a skinny guy but I don't think two tires full of helium would have lifted you...unless you added some Hot Air...LOL That Andy pup is sure a cutey! I love it when my DD's girl (I was going to use the appropriate term but I'm skeered of Admin) has a litter so I can go play with them and not have to do all the work that goes with them.

My house guest has been very well behaved. I credit sobriety. Interesting how that works. But he is still here, and it's getting pretty old. DH better plan a chinese buffet for dinner because I'm making breakfast and that's it.

Bonnie, did you know peach cobbler is my favorite? I should go get some peaches at my favorite grocer. They always have samples out so you can try them before you buy. I have to test them several times. Should probably get enough to make some jam, too...since it's hot and the AC is running, it's a good time to mess with that sort of thing.

McCool, DH should get the shoes, it's a good investment for his future foot health. DH has the opportunity to buy steel toed boots from his work even though he doesn't work in a manufacturing area, and he has gotten two pairs which will probably last his lifetime, but are sure handy when he's doing stuff with the cars or building something. Glad he's improving, but it sure must be boring to have to sit with elevated feet .....I'd be snoozing too.

I know I haven't addressed everyone, but I'm burning daylight here, and need to get busy. I'll settle for a ~~~~, and tell you that I've read everything so I'm current on the detail, wishing good health and recoveries to all who need it, and if that $##%!! Olivia doesn't get off my keyboard, she's getting a tme out in the bathroom!!

Good Morning!

Left the hospital around 6 am, came home and promptly went to sleep for 2 more hours. The 6 or so hours of "sleep" in the hosp. were very fitful. Hard to sleep with 24 or 25 electrodes pasted all over me (mostly head, face and feet), plus the connector box next to my pillow and an O2 sensor taped to my finger.

The tech said she couldn't tell me the results, but unofficially I do have some problems and they are treatable. She said my doctor would have the test results in 2 weeks. My biggest problem right now is all the paste in my hair and although it will wash out, I have an appointment in town with my insurance agent and not enough time to shower. Guess it's good that I wear a ball cap most of the time!

BBL, ~~~~~~ to All.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Ernie, you scared the crap out of me. I almost went back and tried the link, you rascal you. Yeah, I believe your story about floating home with the tires filled with helium, I'm gullable, but not so much that I believe that.

Sarv, gosh, sorry that you didn't sleep. Why worry about things that you probably can't change anyway? Oh, you say you needed a new hobby?

M5, Does Olivia get time outs often? She probably thinks that is a treat!! These peaches came from DH's youngest sister, she has trees. They were small, but DH peeled them for me, so I didn't have much of an excuse not to make the pie.

katym, sometimes the kids pick the most unopportune time to want to stay up and play. Maybe you can rest some today.

Thanks all for the congrats of the thread start. Now, hope I can remember just what it was I did different.

Neighbor and I are going to a storage unit auction this morning, so have to get up and get moving. Will check in later.

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Well, I ended up staying up until about 2:00 am and finally DS went to sleep. He did wake up one other time after that but not for too long. Anyway, this morning I woke him up and noticed he has a fever. Guess it's off to the Dr. with him. Dont know what I will do with him tonight during VBS. UGH!!

Well I am exhausted today from being up so late and I must go get dressed and to the drugstore as I am out of Children's Motrin.

Hope everyone has a better day than what seems to be in store for me :)

Katy

Morning everyone
Katy ... I'm so sorry to hear about your son. I do hope it's nothing serious and your VBS will go off without a hitch. Gosh ... the costume idea sounds really cute. :-) I mean ... if you want the little ones to learn ... I guess you have to get on their level. :-) Sort of helps to make it stick and become real for them. I hope it will turn out to be fun.

Ernie ... *shame shame*! When I read your post my mouth flopped open and I was like ... I don't understand. The link worked for me??? Then I realized you were pulling our leg. LOL The next time Maria calls I will tell her to use the 2X4 on you! ;)

Darius, glad you got all that over with for now. Yeah ... that gunk is horrible in your hair, isn't it? Good luck on the report.

sarv ... guess you are probably gone by now ... but happy camping!! LOL Sounds like a lot of fun!

Well, sorry if I've missed anyone. That's all I could remember right now. Hope everyone has a wonderful day in the garden.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Well got up to the second day of rain Maria has caused all of this because she did not want it to be hot and dry. I must have followed the wrong when I did the weather chant from the Acme Company hand book on weather alterations grrrrrrr now 100 miles to Seattle in the rain.

Devoe I love it when a plan comes togeather. You did well perserverance really pays off well done didn't really mean to scare you just make your heart go momentarly faster.

Hmmm some one insinuated I am a story teller NO WAY well sometimes I imbelish a little here and there just for fun I consider it artistic license ha ha. Now lol you all failed I gave you a big clue and no one commented or cried shenanagins on my unicycle getting a front tire flat lol .

Time to feed the kids three piles of gold just looking at me I usually feed them at five but no work today slept till six thirty.

Sarv simple fix for the fishing don't cook and when they get hungry enough and start cooking for them selves just take the boat it is your duty lol.

Ok have a good day all. Ernie

Beautiful Setter eweed!

Well, here I sit, trying to figure out what I forgot to do. It is only 10:00 and all the things I needed to do this am, before company arrives this afternoon, are done. I have this sinking feeling *something* will jump out of the woodwork when it is too late to do anything about it. Does anyone else have a problem like this?

By the way, fresh baked Cinnamon streusel muffins are on the counter, still warm. The fresh baked Pecan Bars are almost cool enough to cut, so hang around a few minutes and dig in.
For supper we will have meatloaf, potatoes, and asparagus with an orange jello salad ( made with a mix of shredded cabbage - green and red -, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. It is a great lunch side for the summer, too. Oh yes, deviled eggs to go with the salad. Iced tea and rolls will finish off the meal. I am as Southern as they come, but I really prefer my iced tea unsweetened with a bit of mint. In the winter I do sweeten my hot tea. Go figure!

So many comments over the past days that I meant to add here, but now they are gone out of my head. I guess the lesson is - post comments as soon as I think of them!

Hey, all. I'm at work and it has been a terribly slow boring day. I have had one person in the office and one phone call all day, plus I had all my paperwork done at 10:00. I am bored out of my mind. I read everybody's posts for the past couple of days and now I'm all caught up. I'll check back in a little bit to see what else is going on.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Twyla,

No aspirin after the teeth are pulled. Aspirin may make you bleed more. Take Ibuprofin. Good for mouth pain. Take heart, it can only feel better than the pain you are in now.

((((Twyla))))

Molly

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Sneakin' in with a quick remark, Twyla, my teeth hurt so bad that after they were pulled there was virtually no pain at all!! I bled like a stuck pig though and probably gave the poor old fella driving next to me a heart attack when I spit out a mouthful of blood out the door. They gave me three tiny little gauze squares which were not nearly enough to get me home.! Believe me, I know the pain you are in and it will be such a relief to get rid of those mean teeth.

I'm in the middle of a project, check in later

most of my day is done already. watered from 5:40 to7:10. cleaned up,tried to get some coffee and breakfast. the phone kept ringing. thought i'd never get out of the house to do my errands before it hit 90 today.

did squeeze in a half hour to meet a friend for coffee. so all that's left today is inside work until later tonight.

yesterday late afternoon ended up going to a lily show. there's a club in chippewa falls and my friend knows her. anyway we went we conquered and left. she really has a large variety of lillies. several lg. beds and a couple of more natural settings. food and music were also there. it was just to hot to enjoy and most of it was in the sun. yep! i'm a humidity wimp!!

everybody take care of yourselves and pace yourselves today. vicki

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Are the DG police watching already? I had a fair bit of difficulty getting back to the thread after posting the previous message.

I managed to locate two more bags of cocoa mulch in Ottawa - actually two different branches of Canadian Tire had it - one in the far east end and one in the far west end. I got the rest of my front garden mulched this morning and part of a hosta garden in the back done as well. I've relocated 7 hostas in that one bed as they were crowding each other, trimmed back an overgrown Astilbe and some Campanula. Actually want to move one more Hosta a bit. Not the best time, but they get enough shade and I'm not distrubing the roots much at all - just lifting them and moving them over a bit; so they should do OK. I call this phase 2 of hosta gardening - moving them around until they look good. Was working on that last night and early this morning.

Then, in to shower and head out for a haircut. I really gave hair dresser a piece of my mind about the last cut. Last time I had asked him for two things - short enought that it wouldn't go bushy in humid weather and short enough that it wouldn't stick out funny over my right ear. I got neither. I told them I'd come within an inch of trying a new hairdresser. Well this cut seems good. But then it always does when I leave. I'll tell more about it after I've been to the pool. Next haircut, I may go to someone else because in 6 weeks, I'll be in Japan. I would normally get it cut one week early - 5 weeks, but his shop will be closed that week for renovations. 4 weeks seems a bit early for an expensive haircut. Kelly, want to come for a visit and cut my hair or do you know any good hairdressers in Sapporo? Actually, getting it cut in Japan might not be a bad idea because they might be able to cope with thick coarse hair. Except for color, Japanese hair shares a lot of characteristics with mine.

Darius - I'm glad you're back from the test and hope that the results are worth it. I bet you'll sleep well tonight.

Sarv - sorry you didn' sleep and hope good things for you tonight.

Bonnie - hope you had good luck at the auction.

Katy - hope DS is feeling better.

~~Hi Elaine

Ginni - do you cook like that all the time? I think I can gain weight just thinking about it.

FC - can you read a good book at work? Sorry, but somewhere along the line I missed what you do.

Twyla - it's getting close to 2. I hope your are successful at the dentist. Like Sheila, I bet it won't be any worse than the pain you've been in. I hope they will give you antibiotics. And take them all please. It concerns me that you had leftover medicine around the house because in order to really get rid of infections it is usually important to take it all. Molly said Ibuprofin, but I think Tylenol or store brand equivalents are better, but not Aspirin because it definitly can promoste bleeding. (I think Ibuprofin can too.)

As far as my cold - it persists, but I'm feeling better. Just wish the cough that starts with a tickle low in my gut would go away. My hairdresser said he was coughing like that for 3 weeks before getting a course of antibiotics. I'll give it till next week sometime.

Well, that's about it for now.

BBL

Ann

Twyla ... am praying for you. Sorry I didn't post in time for you to read this. Hugs
~Elaine~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

According to the moon signs, today and tomorrow are good days for Twyla to have extractions with the least bleeding. I used the moon signs for my last extraction.... my dentist thought I was nuts. However, I barely bled enough for a clot to form in the socket, and used just one gauze square.

Most of my moon signs book deals with gardening and farm animals but there's a few chapters on misc. items like dental work, haircuts and fishing.

vann - yes, that is normal cooking around here, just normally small portions per meal. All the extra goes into fridge or freezer for another meal or three. I always divide it into meal size portions and can thaw a meal in a few minutes. I try to keep the veggies heavier than the meat. Note - while weight gain is something I have to watch, I have to balance that with trying to put weight *on* my DH who is 6'2" and weighs in at 118 lbs. I'm 5'2" and weigh 122 lbs!!! I'm thinking about changing out the asparagus for brussell sprouts for supper tonight. I *love* both - DH doesn't get excited about either! Tonight's company (my brother and my Mom) will happily eat whatever I put on the table. Hope your cold is going away.

Twyla, I do hope all goes well for you. I worry about tooth infection, as that can actually go into your blood and heart. I send prayers and (((hugs))) that you can get it under control.

Oooops, the little piglets have once again emptied their feeder! I finished the last of the sugar water two days ago so must mix more and fill their "bowl". Best we can figure, there are about 2 dozen hummers feeding here. We did sight two nests, and located two more areas where there were probably nests that we didn't actually see. We also have added a Gray squirrel to the feeders at the bird station. I was surprised, because, usually all we see are fox squirrels and they don't normally co-exist. I put out an ear of dried corn and some old pecans for the little cutie.

Off to fill the hummer feeder - bbl

V-ann, I work in our town hall. I'm the deputy clerk, and our town clerk is on vacation this week, so I'm here all day. Our town is really small, so it was very slow in here today. I had one person in this morning, and two after lunch. But it is closing time right now, so I'll talk to you all later when I get home.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone. It's ice cream break time, and today I also have berry cobbler to go with it, a free birthday dessert that came with our meal last evening. It's a combination of blackberries and raspberries, warmed up and topped with vanilla ice cream, ummmm, good.

Today I'm back to picking up broken hay bales, have a load in the pickup right now but the next thing on my do list is to change sprinkler locations, ride Patch for a half hour or so at a walk (rehab) and then it will be time to move the sprinkler again. And after that, back to the hay. There are two more loads up there that I can see, and maybe more behind the hill or in another field.

Hope, I'm sure glad you got an appointment to get those teeth pulled. By now they are probably out and you are resting/recovering.

ViAnn, you might want to delete that first post just in case, by now most of us have read it anyhow, and know who to contact to send something.

Sorry I don't have much time today to comment, besides the hay project I'm getting ready to leave in the morning to go crew for the team again. There is a possibility of riding a borrowed horse that I can't even remember seeing before, adventure for sure to get on an unknown animal and ride 50 miles, but I have done it a couple of times before. Am I nuts or what?

Clinton, IN(Zone 5b)

Would anyone like to have some seeds for love-in-a-mist? I have tons of them ready to drop off of the plants and I would be happy to send them to anyone that wants some. There are several pictures in PlantFiles but I don't know how to put a link in to show you. Nigella is the correct name for them.

Well, I'm done for the day... I hope! Just finished the last of the peaches... scalding, slipping the skins, pitting and chopping into small chunks with a little lemon juice and freezing in 4 cap bags. I have enough to make 50-60 half pints of Peach Melba Jam.

Doesn't begin to compare to what Defoe has been putting up... even my 2 bushels of apples for apple butter next week won't compare. Don't let anyone tell you canning is easy. Sure... one run is easy but all day over the stove is NOT. Later on I will can all kinds of tomato products, with tomatoes bought from a neighbor. I want beets to pickle but haven't found any. Next year I will have my own produce, God Willing.

I saw fresh peaches today in town, out of a truck that was delivering to the insurance office. They smelled great but only the size of a golf ball. No one could PAY me to process peaches that small!

FlowrChild, I'd love some nigella seeds even though they can be quite invasive. I'm hoping to turn the strip between the creek and the road into a random array of flowers next year. Must be close to half an acre and I don't want to keep mowing it. I'm in the Address Exchange.

Mary, glad it's you moving broken hay bales and not me. I unloaded almost a full pick-up truck load of mulch today and my muscles show it already.

Anyone heard from Twyla?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Twyla, we cross-posted. Glad you got them out. The pain will go away. I need to get my upper front 6 out and I'm dreading it... both the surgery and being toothless.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Twyla, glad they are out and hope that you heal well.Did they give you a prescription for antibiotics? I hope so.

In this description, I've been struck at the differences in welfare coverage. Up here, basic dental - especially emergency extractions would be covered. But it may all boil down to provincial health care. both health care and welfare are provincial responsibilities. And somewhere, I think the system recognizes that the costs will be higher in the long run if the basic care isn't carried out. NOT ALWAYS, but some of the time at least. The Canadian medical system isn't perfect but I think it's a whole lot better than what you people in the US are facing and having to pay for.

In a lighter vein, this was received from my daughter. It is NOT, I repeat NOT, MY grandkids. The subject of the e-mail was LAUGH OR CRY???!!! and contained a paragraph of text

Quoting:
I got this same picture e-mailed to me at work with the subject being something about a form of birth control! My colleague, Nancy and I have put this picture on the wall in our pod as sort of a mantra for when things go crappy at work - we just point at the picture and say "Things could be worse!" Love it!

Enjoy.

I think I would have to strangle my children. Those boys look like my neighbor kids, right down to the mischievious gleam in his eye.

ViolaAnn- OMG that is so funny!! I got that same email at my work yesterday (weird how far the internet can reach- you in Ottawa and me in Alabama)

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

DS seems to be in good spirits, but still has a fever. DM talked me out of taking him to the Dr. today because it may be too early to tell what the prob is and we would just end up taking him back the next day probably. Trust me this has happened with both of my kids before and man what a pain to take them twice...not to mention two copays.

Flowerchild- I am not familiar with love in a mist and I checked out plant files. There isnt a whole lot of info and no picture at all. I guess I will pass as I wouldnt know what to expect. I just bought some chocolate mint plants and some moss rose off of ebay and havent received them yet. Very excited and I think they will be here tomorrow judging from when the seller said she mailed them to me. I got interested in chocolate mint on the herbs forum and just had to see what all the hype was about. Any of you have any of this?? I understand it makes great ground cover as well as all of the culinary uses (teas, etc.) We have two acres and most of it is open so I am trying to fill some of this blank space in the yard.

Okay I have rambled on too long now and my DS is crawling all over me and trying to type and messing me up, so I will send this.
