Connie,
I'd love to know how you keep your purple Cordylines looking so nice. I can't even keep them alive. I pulled the 2nd attempt with them out of the ground yesterday...so sad b/c I wanted that color and flowing shape right where I'd put it. :(

Springfield, MO(Zone 6b)

I'm sneaking an "ID please" on this thread since my unknown plants just happen to be purple :)

If you look closely, there are two planted together... the little one looks like purple clover. I need to figure out the names so I can know how to take care of them... sun? Shade? inside? outside? Thanks :)

Almost looks like a Persain Sheild - hard to tell from the underside of the leaf

Springfield, MO(Zone 6b)

Good point :) Here's a better picture of the correct side of the leaf...

Thank you :)

I found out also that the little purple clover things are called Purple Oxalis.

Fruitport, MI(Zone 5a)

I know this plant was posted already. I just think it's so pretty. I found it a couple of days ago at a nursery trying to get rid of the last of their annuals. I picked up this 12 inch basket for $2.50.

Oh wow, that's beautiful and a great price!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, yes, Kathyvm, that is a super bargain on the purple oxalis! That would be at least 20. here in Austin for an entire basket of it...I guess because the purple foliage plants are so popular now. Very "Victorian"!!

Ellianor...I THINK both your purple plants are sun loving...so don't think they will flourish in the house year-round. Can you place the pot outside for some sun? I do know the deer love the Oxalis, as they have mowed mine down to the nub at least once!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

$2.50???!! Wow!! I'd love to have come across that basket for that price!! Great deal for you!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Here is a pic I took this morning with the bed with purples....does a 'Crimson Barberry work? It's kinda purple when the leaves mature from the crimson....

And someone asked about growing the Cordylines....I bought 7 of them and just planted and the sprinkler waters...nothing else. I think I did sprinkle some fert. beads around them when planted back in April. Don't confuse them with the other purple foliage plant that looks just like them...because they will NOT grow here in Texas...don't know about your zone...I'll post later if I think of the name, or perhaps someone else knows what I'm speaking of....

Connie,
It was listed as a Yucca Cordyline Red Star - first one died...the seller (nice lady replaced it...I watered this one on a regular basis and it died as well. Here was the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7762396495&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D7762396495%26fvi%3D1
I would love it if you could provide the name of one that would be hardy to zone 7 as well as sun tolerant. I loved the splash of color it gave to that area!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll post it here also: Cordyline Australis "Red Sensation"

The ones that do NOT do well in our Zone 8 heat are the Phormiums....

Fruitport, MI(Zone 5a)

Those are beautiful Connie. Wish that I could grow them in my zone.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I just went to the hyperlink for the 'Red Stars' and mine seem a lot more purple (but are also named "Red...Sensation." It could just be the camera....

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

No you're right...the ones I received were a beautiful purple...dont' know where the "red" comes from in the name.

Nice haul on the begonias. The center one in the above photo is b. 'Hatacoa Silver' and I have the other two but they don't have name tags. (just occurred to me that yours might have the tags) The one on the left looks like one I have called 'Omaha Beefsteak'.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

WOW thanks for the names, up here they rarely give then name just Rex, much appreciated!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

happy to oblige! Butch in the Begonia forum is well versed in Rexies, you may want to cross post your photo and see if he can ID the other two for you.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Will do!
