The excitement is too much! I have an umbel forming on one of my H. thailandicas - can't wait! Since it is a cool growing plant, I hope our warm weather won't jinx it!!!
July Buds N Blooms continued.......
Oh, how cool Carol. I wanna see pictures!!!
Don't hold your breath...too hard. The two plants are really healthy and big...but I never thought I would see the start of blooms so early. Keep your eyes crossed!!!
Karen...isn't it satisfying when our coveted plants do bloom!!! I get a thrill out of each and every one, too. H. lacusosa has to be one of my all time favorites...I love the scent..... Good Growing!
Carol
Awesome Karen!!!
Such a beautiful bloom Christina! I hope you had lots of fun with your hoya visitors.
Ann
Karen congrats girl you are doing great!! Grow on my Sistah!!
Blessings,
Awanda
What a coincidence, Christina... H. imperials opened Friday for me, too! Aren't they spectacular?! I love the tinge of pink in them...last time this one opened all white.
Ah declare, Ms. Kitty...you sho' does have some booootiful flowers messin' ta bloom. Whatch'all doin'?
Beautiful!!!! Nydelig!!!! Utrolig!!!! :)
Well, I have my first peduncle on the HD special (Carnosa?) hanging outside and I will be gone, so I won't get to see it!!!!
I am really exited about a pair a Kerrii's I bought earlier, one had some fungus problem and the vendor told me to use Rose fungicide, and it worked!! They are both growing really fast and the colours of the variegated one is just lovely!
Allright, Becky!!! I can't believe you won't get to see the bloom. Can't you have a neighbor snap a photo while you're gone? Congrats on the new Kerrii's. Do the new leaves on the variegated ones start out with a pinkish tinge to them?
Ann
Actually they are coming out with a very bright, light green and dark green color....I wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden I counted about 10 leaves! I put her outside when I discovered the fungus, it's been hotter than hades here, I sprayed the fungicide and she took off!
And no, no pix, I am taking the camera (unless she waits for 10 days for me to get back from MT, I won't get to see it!) and leaving DH at home, poor guy is scared to death he is going to kill ANY of my plants! He knows how "protective" I can be, we had a lesson in Moisture Meters last night!! :)
The three HD specials ( I took the tags off silly me), two green and one variegated, (with incredible pink and green new leaves!) are growing like crazy as well, they are outside under the umbrella! I am now sold on messenger, it seems to make everything GROW!
Great blooms everyone !!
How is the H. pusilla doing Ann? I replanted mine and have it down stairs in morning dappled light. She looks better all ready. I think just getting it out of the clay pot will do wonders.
Becky, that picture reminds me of St. Patricks Day! Beautiful.
Tami, H. pusilla blasted. I think it's because Eugene, OR went from having consistently hot (day and night) temperatures for about a week and a half, back to the normal hot days and cool nights. I think the extreme weather change is what caused the bud blast. However, the peduncle looks really healthy, so I am hoping it will give the blooming thing another try soon. Yeah, I just have really bad luck with hoyas in clay pots. Plastic is so much more forgiving - if something is getting dry, but I'm too busy to water, an extra day's wait isn't going to upset the plant too much if it's in plastic.
Ann
Christina, that imperialis photo is really exquisite. What lovely colors, especially the greenish tint on the lower corolla.
Christina, that H. limoniaca is gorgeous. What directionally-facing window do you keep yours in? I have mine in an east-facing window, where it grows like a maniac, but not even the hint of a peduncle, much less a bloom (by the way, it's in a six inch pot and is in need of moving up - so it's not a young thing).
Ann
Mark and the rest of you, thank you! My imperialis has gotten a hint of green to it the past few times it has bloomed and the buds are really green too and I keep thinking it shows through...
Ann, I completely cut down my limoniaca this spring and saved only what looked good. I used to have it in a spot in a west window where it got quite a lot of sun, but it turned so yellow last summer. Now I have it right next to that same window, but it gets only late evening sun. It has grown like weed and several new peduncles too this summer. These are the first flowers this year, but last year it bloomed like crazy! I'd rather have few blooms and a nice plant, than a yellow plant that blooms a lot! Oh, mine is right next to a ventilation too and I've heard this one likes to be kept cooler.
Christina
Christina, your pictures are always spectacular. You really have a gift!
Mel
Christina very pretty limoniaca, mine has put on a couple spurs this year, but no signs of it wanting to bloom. Mine is growing like a weed. I love the leaves on this one, always so darn shinny. Mine lives in an eastern window, but is on vacation down under the porch, she loves it...
Thanks for that info. Christina and Tami!!!
Ann
