Thanks for your comments on my dimorpha.
Here it is when it has opened. Though the buds had more pink in the color this time, the flowers still are as yellow as they use to be. Maybe it has a little more pink just under the corona.
July Buds N Blooms continued.......
Congratulations, cicada!
I just love those yellow flowers. I now have a little dimorpha too.
Your kerrii bloom looks sooo clean. Mine are now amber colored with that sweet, sticky, dripping goo. They sure do produce a lot of that stuff. I am glad it is outside.
Marcy
Shirley, hope your kerrii starts to "leak" a little. Part of the charm is seeing what looks like amber LED lights dripping from the bloom.
Wonderful dimorpha Lotta. I love the yellow flowers. The photo of the buds is very nice. Surprised it didn't have more pink after seeing the bud photo first.
Pretty flowers..
Christina is looks like the verticillata has a little more color to it this blooming cycle. The flower to the right looks to be a little lighter. Could be the lighting though. Can't wait to see the samoensis
Lotta your dimorpha is really pretty, I received a large cutting this spring and can't wait for her to bloom. I love the pink tones in her.
Christine congrats on kerrii, I too will be getting my first bloom on kerrii, glad it's outside. Oh and I found my first bud on thomsonii :) She still is very small, so I was surprised to see the spur. Don't give up on her... There is hope.
Gorgeous blooms!
Ann
Oh, I am running outside with a picture of your fungii bloom to show mine. Please tell me what kind of light you give it, what are the temperatures that bring on the blooms, etc., etc. Seriously, mine is in a 10" pot, I've had it forever, and I have never had a bloom - it gives me lots of peduncles, but never any blooms.
Please tell me how to get mine to bloom!!!
Ann
Sorry Ann, but I'm not doing anything to get it to bloom. It just does... I have it in an east facing window, but a little shaded from the strongest sun towards noon. It's been hot as a sauna in our living room now for several weeks and I've watered it just about every other day. It's in an 5 inch plastic pot. Mine has 2 more peduncles with small buds... Ooops, perhaps I shouldn't have written that!
Christina
The only thing I can figure with my fungii is that I have always had it in my bedroom, which I keep really warm at night (I hate sleeping in the cold). Since it is from China, and a cool-growing plant, maybe I need to keep it somewhere in the house that stays a little cooler at night. I think I will try something different this winter. Meanwhile, I have put mine outside under a balcony and next to a really big bush, so it doesn't really get any direct sun. We shall see...
Ann
Ann,
Stunning picture of your H. tjadasmalanguensis IML 1181 (what an "impossible" name...)!!!
What is your secret to get your fraterna to bloom??
Christina,
Great photos - as always =)
Interesting info on fungii MsKitty, I did not know it was a cool growing plant. However, if so mine must be confused because it is blooming like crazy in our TX heat! At first it was budding and then blasting, but this last time the buds developed. Nothing has really changed in our weather other than it is drier now but very warm.
Now I've got a NOID with a peduncle...I think it may be carnosa but not sure. The last one I thought was carnosa wasn't. Also blooming or going to are lacunosa and kerrii, I'm holding my breath on the kerrii because it would be my first bloom on this one. Wish me luck!
:) Kim
Very cool, Kim! Does your fungii grow cooler in the winter (i.e. do you keep it somewhere where it stays around the mid-60s during winter)? I ask because I have read that it likes it's winter season cooler, and its soil to be kept a little drier during that time, then it likes high light in the summer (I might be very mistaken - I'll see if I can't find that literature).
Good luck with all your new buds!!! Show us pictures. :-)
Ann
Lotta, I treat my fraterna exactly as Christina says she treats all her plants - I simply water it - nothing else. It is really odd, because when I treated it like I do my other super-bloomers the buds kept blasting.
Ann
Ladies - as always, BEAUTIFUL PICTURES!!!!!!
Ann,
"Simply water it" - are you sure there is no magic stuff in the water?? =)))
Here is my little lacunosa ´Tove´ in the morning sun. Rather pink this time. I grow it outside and it gets a couple of hours of sun in the mornings. We have had very sunny and hot weather in Sweden for a long time now, almost every day since early June if I remember right, and that is a little unusual. But I think the Hoyas like it - a LOT of watering though.
Lotta, that is beautiful!!! I am also experiencing the continental heatwave sweeping across the US, I spend at least a half of an hour each day watering (especially all those in smaller pots).
Ann
I think I am developing muscles in my arm from all the watering I am having to do around here. Ha. I don't even bother winding the hose up anymore, just leave it lay there as I know I am going to be using it again later in the day.
Those little watering meters really come in handy now for the pots because some things look very dry on top, but can be wet down below. Lifting the pots is a good way to tell too, but still not as reliable as that meter. Some of the soil mix I used last fall seems to be drying out a lot faster than the new stuff I am using this year.
It is supposed to cool off today to around 85 then back up into the triple digit numbers for the week end. It's funny too, the amount of rain the country is having at the same time as this heat wave.
Must be global warming agin.
Marcy
Beautiful flowers. There's that fungii again. Mine still has not bloomed. I to must try something different. She has been growing like a mad women, 2 more peduncles, but no signs of wanting to bloom at all. I wish I could get her outside under the deck.
Ooooohhhhh, that's purdy Marcy.
Ann
Lotta....I LOVE your little pink 'Tove'!
Marcy
Marcy, can't wait to see what that bloom looks like when it opens up!
Gorgeous, Christina!!! I love the brick-red color on the tips of the corollas, set against that buttery yellow. Lovely.
Ann
Just beautiful!
Thank you ladies! Flowers are already starting to close up now, but there are new ones on the way soon. This one is a blooming fool!
Christina
OK, everyone ... cross your fingers for me. I was just misting when I discovered an peduncle with BUDS!!! My H. pusilla IML 78, which has never had so much as even a hint of a peduncle in two years has one with buds forming. OMG I am so excited I am chasing my tail. Here is a very bad photograph of it (the fan is on so it's not sitting still).
Ann
You're going to love if those buds make it.....lovely plant.......will keep my fingers crossed!
My fingers are crossed!!
I didn't even know this one was on the way. Smelled it last night on my way to the bathroom, and picked at the plant in the dark for about five minutes before I found this nestled in the leaves at the very top of the trellis. The days are getting shorter now, so I guess I can expect more. This plant has formed about 8 new peduncles over the last couple of weeks. Its H. australis ssp. australis.
