=^..^=
Well i had posted on other one but send did not send i guess . i felt to bad to do over.. but since cannot sleep here i be.. the teeth aren't quite so bad. but i hope monday or tuesday to get in someplace get out.. .. then be nearly toothless.. (on top). Enjoy Sunday and have a wonderful week.. oh i ate another hersey bar today ,bad, bad.. i know but so good..night all..
Good Morning- coon number 9 has been taken care of. It was another adult and over 20 lbs. DGS was over and he had to watch the whole thing- I just couldn't- I hid in the house!!
9kit- you have how many hostas in pots??? 400 was that a typo??? Do you plan on putting them in the ground? No wonder you haven't been here - you must have a hose permanently attached to your hand! Glad the specs got a temporary repair. I cannot see without my glasses either. My mom always scolds me as I never take a spare pair on vacation. Since my presecription changes so much I just never think of it, but maybe should.
Someone needs to make some sweet tea for me - how much sugar??? DH drinks that powder stuff, mixed with water, no sweetner - I think it tastes awful!!
defoe - concert and all that food both sound wonderful!! I have a hankering for some fried fish - hopefully on this camping vacation we'll catch a bunch. The last nigh there we always plan for a fish fry including everyone in our group. Some years we've had to go out to dinner as not enough fish were caught. Last year DS drove 2 hrs to his house to get a bunch from his freezer so we would have the fry. Good kid and everyone loved it!
McC -that is crazy that the visiting nurses aren't available on weekends. Wonder why. Good luck finding the stone. There is a place up here called the 'gem factory'. They make all man made gems, set in nice settings. I've always wanted to visit there and see their stuff. One of those things that I plan on doing before I croak!!
Vi - nice looking table, chairs and especially the edging. Which reminds me - we have over 300 edgers that we never got in. It goes around a bed that is in solid clay and it will take a week of rain to soften up the ground. So far, it remains cement... But there's always next year! LOL
I have several small dahlias that are looking awful. Their foliage is all limp and the coloring is pale and sickly. I've done everything I can think of - extra water, shot of fertilizer, alfalpha pellets etc, but nothing seems to perk them up. This morning I pulled one up to see if something was eating the roots - things looked fine. If I have time this week, I'm going to another nursery and see if they have any more or will just yank them all out and give them the heave ho - I'm tired of looking at their sorry leaves. So there!!!
DGS wants the computer= he loves playing the games that were loaded on it, so I need to sign off for awhile.
I too get a chuckle out of the number of views on here. Lurkers - show yourselves!! We don't bite!
Good mornng all, I am so sorry Bonnie, you have such a problem trying to do your best I know I would be in the same boat if I had to do this
Ann, what a beautiful job you did with thiose stones as garden etchings not to mentione your new porch funiture, it is simply elegant
McCool , nothing is formal around my house. I have about 20 acres, we built it smack in the middle of the cattle pasture my husband used for his cattle. Most of the land is woods and the trees you see in the yard have been there long before we built just a new lawn was put in. AS a matter offact I kind of get upset when neighbors who bought most of our land cut down trees, just notized the other day one of them cut down at lead 1/2 dozend locust trees that lined the srteet, there was nothing wrong with them. When Locust is in bloom the whole area is filled with their wonderful fragrance.
Good Morning to all!!! Isn't today a wonderful day? (from Waukeshas sandpoint I guess). Just was out roaming the gardens with my coffee. The new beds are filling in nicely and the beds from 1004.......some need dividing already. Have a wonderful idea for a new bed. Out front I planted 2 Lavender lady Lilacs in May. They are only about two feet high (I'm trying to learn the aspect for patience so I buy smaller plants..not working) any ways they are about 5 & 1/2 ft apar. I'd like to go a foot to each side of them and behind them and about 6 feet in fron of them and plant a new bed. My daylilies have gotten huge esp. my Stell d'Oros . I figure out of 5 plants I could get about 12. I would put them in that bed scattered throughout. My gallardias also need division and A couple of Shastas need a new home as well. I have 3 white peonies that I guess I planted way too close together and I could put them in there as well. I got overzealous with Russian Sage this year and now of a couple I could relocate. I could plant them in such a way as once the lilacs begin to bloom I'll have blooms form May to Oct. Something always going at once. The gaillardias have been blooming since Memorial weekend and the shastas started the same time the Stella f'Oros did in early part of June. I am so excited about this idea I could burst.
Problem? DH. He said I don't need another bed. That the Dept of Horticulture called him and said its been reported that we have too many flowers for our property size and well over the quota. He just doesn't want to lose his precious lawn. I will have my new bed. He can't take this away from me. I'm too fired up about this and besides I can't really start serious divisions this very day, so I have time to make him see things my way. He's forgetting whos really the boss around here. Cup is empty and I smell food cooking upstairs, DH must be up. BBL. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~to all Cherie
Good morning!! Bonnie, I feel so bad for you having trouble with doing the daily. Call me tonight for sure. Your computer can't be that different to give you so much trouble. Your church fund raiser sounded wonderful! What a delightful variety of tasty treats. Wish I could have heard the music, I love southern gospel, it is so joyful.
Welcome back Susan, we missed you, and did not forget you at all. We have some new visitors, as you probably noticed. All those Hostas in pots..I'm surprised you had time to stop by at all! We watered all day yesterday, in spite of the weather prevaricators telling us we would have showers. We didn't. I'll be fried if I'll let all our redone gardens dry up after all that work.
Poor pets! They sure let us know when they feel miserable. I don't know how anyone could ever catch up with us after several weeks, we are such a bunch of chatters! How are you? Weren't you going to visit your daughter?
Molly, one of the lilies you sent me is just about ready to pop out a bloom! The bud looks kind of dark red...I hope I'm not annoying it by going and staring at it every day! Your DS got some lovely weather while he was in MI. DS said it's been just beautiful, with cool nights for sleeping. It was so hot and sticky here last night, I got up around 2 and shut the windows and turned on the AC. Finally got to sleep after it cooled down, but I feel like a wet rag this morning.
I'm not trying to label my plants but I do have a map now, and have marked what went where. DH said yesterday we need to pick up some of those annuals that have red flowers. (What??!!) I said, fine ..but have no idea what he's talking about!! If the nursery doesn't have any left, it will remain a mystery!
I planted three EEs, and one has finally sprouted! The peonies I got at Sam's were pretty much a bust, only three came up so it was no bargain. I threw a bunch of seed heads from the Valerian back in the area under the Black Walnut. We'll see how enthusiastic they are there. DH has been throwing a lot of grass clippings back there and it's starting to look almost decent. The plants that manage to survive are doing well, rudbeckia, goat's beard, iris, some of the sedum look a little stunted but others are fine.
Oh, before I forget, BAHAMAS !! You bet! But I would want to go in the worst of our winter which is February or early March because that's when our days are short and dark and wet and cold and I hate it.
DIL and I didn't go this year because they had just moved and I wasn't willing to finance her share. She always pays me back but when it comes in dribbles, it never gets back into my savings.
Critter,my DH drinks iced tea all the time,but he uses the stuff out of a jar..bleahhhh. If I make it I do it with boiling hot water and the sugar goes right in with the tea. I think my sister caught the habit from living in the southeast all these years, and she showed me how. I am more likely to grab a coke or water though.
V'ann, the edging looks super. And the frog is a hoot! I think my toads have given up on the front garden, haven't seen any since we redid it. Maybe I'll put a toad house out there for them to encourage them to come back. Nice find on the table and chairs! A drop leaf table is so nice, doesn't take up a lot of space, but soooo handy when you need it! Wish I had taken that old one my DS offered me several years back, but now she gave it to her DD so I'm out of luck.
McCool, I'm sure you are relieved that your DH's feet are getting better. No visiting nurses on weekends? That does sound odd...do people not need help on weekends? And that's good news about the test for diabetes. That would have made healing much more difficult. We do understand when people can't get here every day. I'd be going through withdrawal after a couple days.
Note: they do have internet cafes in the Bahamas....LOL
Suzie, after I get done babbling here I'm going to go check that link you put on. Seems like everyone is watering, watering, watering.
WS, you were PACKING!! What a visual!! LOL Annie get your gun!
OK kids, I'm outa here. DH is taking me to breakfast, oh you bet he is! And if the BIL shows up today, dinner tonight will be the leftover pizza from Friday or he can take us out for chinese buffet. Uh huh.
~~~ to all, have a glorious day, if I haven't addressed you blame it on CRS.
Sheila
Sheila,
That is exciting. Now the ones I sent were named but lost tags, right?
I still have names and pictures of all Daylilies I have bought. I was just going through them the other day and realized I missed some not being here any more. Which gives me a couple ideas about what you might have. Soon's we get a photo we will know!!!!
Sarv, You know I am not a true southerner, only been in the south for 34-35 years. But, I do like my tea sweet, like my coffee. So this is what ya do. Got a coffee maker? Run a pot full of water through the machine into the pot. Put about 1/2 cup of sugar in, stir it until it is dissolved, taste the spoon. If it's not sweet enough add some more a little until it's right. Stir between each addition.
Then when it's right, throw 4-5 tea bags into the carafe of hot sweet water, stir until tea bags are saturated, sit it on the counter to seep. When the color is right, remove the tea bags squeezing the liquid back into the carafe. Pour the tea into a pitcher full of ice. Give it a few minute to cool and melt some of the ice......then enjoy.
This is a transplanted snow birds method. I think the true southern ladies do a sun tea thing
Molly
:^))))
Good Morning, Up and almost ready for church.
Sorry about the link last night. I am almost ready to concede defeat, and let someone else who is more knowledgeable take over.
Don't have a clue what lunch after church will be. I think I am all cooked out.
I will check in when home from church.
Good morning all,
Oh MY, Maria! What a gorgeous Dahlia above! A great way to start the day.
critter - yes, that's a Double Delight rose. You know your roses. I had to look up the name when I posted a bigger pic of it on the "What's Blooming in Canada Part IV" thread - http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/624318/
Great to see Susan back, but I'm surprised we saw you at all with all that watering. Hope you get some rain. Wish I could give you some of the excess we've had here.
Elaine (McCool) - glad the feet are coming along (DH's) and particularly glad the tests were negative for Diabetes. I've been counting about 5-6 views for each post; so if you look in about that many times before you post and many of the others do too, probably most of them are from people who post when they get time rather than entirely from lurkers. Of course, it's always nice when a lurker decides to join in.
Bonnie - glad the fish fry and concert went well. You're doing fine at starting the threads and I bet you'll figure out why the links are working right soon. Meanwhile, we'll all pitch in and help.
Sarv - hope that's all the coons you have to deal with. Nine in total? Wow! Are your edgers leftovers like ours or just a project that never made it to completion? I'm happy to say that the pile of leftover edgers (from the driveway project several years ago) is now quite small.
Hi to everyone else. ~~~
Better get dressed and get out to church. Camp Awesome is planning the service; so DD, DSIL and DGtwins will be there - a rather rare occasion. We need to be there a bit earlier than DH's favourite time which is 2 minutes before the service starts.
Have a good day.
Ann
Bonnie,
It looks to me like you are doing just fine. You set up the thread and someone else links it over. Works for me. I haven't missed a bit of coffe chat and that's what counts isn't it? We're all here.
Molly
:^))))
Good Morning GOB's and 'ettes! I slept like a rock, starting early and missing the ending of a movie last night. My sister called and awakened me about 10:30 and the movie was re-playing and I fell asleep again before the ending!
DS is coming this next weekend for 2 days. She will have Sunday to explore this new place, and Monday for business, plus a day before and a day after for travel. We need to change the titles of both vehicles to Virginia which will save over $1,000 every 6 months on auto insurance. She has to have a VA driver's license to do it, and the laws here about proof of identity and proof of residency are VERY strict.
Japanese beetles are everywhere and the traps I put up yesterday are almost half full already. Good think I bought extra bags!
Mr. Slow is (supposedly) coming after church to work. I think we'll go over to the storage unit and find my canning stuff and my utensils before doing much else. Somehow using my good china with plastic forks doesn't seem right, LOL.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Darius: good china & plastic forks. Now that is a neat idea!!!
Maria: your dahlias are really pretty. Tried one last year, it died on me. Sure do like them tho.
If I ever get the bermuda grass out of the back yard, hopefully I will be able to try different plants. Had intended to get started on that terrible job but all seems to take longer that it used to. Lack of energy.
Spraying poisons is something I really detest doing, but know of no other way to kill bermuda grass. Finnally sucumbed to doing the poison bit in the new lawn we had put it in the front. Where an old tree had been taken out, the roots that didn't come up, were sending up new tree starts. The starting trees have now died, but now there are a few new ones coming up just next to them. Hopefully, will get out this afternoon & do that. This may be ongoing chore for the rest of the summer.
Stayed home from church this am, as we are both worn out & feeling punk from summer colds. Did have a very good time at grandnephews 1st birthday party. Weren't many of us from my nephews side of the family, & he was very glad to see us. We did have 5 generations there again, from my Mother down thru my greatgranddaughter. Thats always neat.
Hope to make it to a concert at a small church south of here tonight. Hes been at our church before & is good & if his hillbilly cousin Bubba is there, thats a good laugh.
Happy Birthday!! Can't stay, we bought two more flats of annuals....He meant celosia. I think. Maybe he just picked the first red ones he saw....LOL
S.
dmc - the carriage looks wonderful. Happy birthday.
Just TOO, TOO precious! ......and ....Happy Birthday!
Pati
dm- that carriage is drop dead gorgeous!! Love the flowers. Let us know how things go for you!! Wishing you beautiful weather and calm horses!! LOL
DGS and I and over to DS's house to water and feed the cats. They left us a typed out list of things to do - it was so funny!! Anyhow, I was outside watering, DGS was inside playing with the cats. He came out and after quite awhile, I asked him if he shut the house door- he replied yes. I went to check and it was OPEN and the cats were GONE! I about died. Searched and searched and searched and finally found them hiding in the garage- thank goodness they didn't escape to the great outdoors!! After a hot chase we got them. I was a wreck. I shouted at DGS and then had to apologize - I felt so bad, but I was frantic!!!
It is hot again here and did sprinkle a tad - enough to wet the leaves but not the pavement. My chore for today is to figure out the automatic hose turn on for when we are gone. Wish me luck. There are two pages of instructions....and you know what a thug I am about figuring things out.....
Molly, thanks for the instructions on the sweet tea- I think I might be able to figure that out!!
Maria, dahlias are gorgeous - a few of mine are blossoming. They usually are a fall bloomer here and are very welcome as most of my perennials are kaput by then.
Darius - hope your sis has a good time with you. She won't believe all you have accompolished!! Any luck with her selling her Fla home?
Vi - our edgers are not leftovers - they are brand new ones, just never found the time to get them in before the clay turned cement. Spring or fall the ground is softer. Yup, I think the count is 9. We're setting the trap again tonight.
well, gotta to check to see what the 'boys' are doing in the barn
Oh forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to dm!! Someone should be taking YOU for a carriage ride!!
Happy Birthday Dorothy, what a wonderful age to be!!!!!
Sarv, sorry, I got carried away, all you wanted to know was the sugar. ((((smoooch)))))
Molly
:^)))
Dorothy, what a wonderful "dressing" of the carriage. It's lovely! ...and what a nice thing to do for your birthday... drive a dressed up carriage! Have a Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday dmc and the carriage is beautiful!!! Have a great day and lots of cake and goodies!!....Lauri
Happy, happy birthday dmc, oh to be that age again!!!
measnt toadd what a lovely carrigage, rominds mr of the many rises I had In Vienna, of course, they were not so delightfully decorated
You did a beautiful job!
Edited to say, my younger daughter planned to come this PM to help me with the garden but her Husband had other ideas, lol that is just like him
This message was edited Jul 9, 2006 3:03 PM
Well, I will add to dmc, Happy Birthday, hope it is a good one,and what a nice carriage. Hope the event goes well.
When we got back from church, (we have early church) was home before 11:00, made bacon and tomato sandwiches. The tomatoes were market bought, grown in Tennessee. They were good. I cleaned the kitchen, cleaned my stove, as it has had a work out this week, and then hit the couch. I have been asleep from about 12:30 till now. So that probably means that I won't sleep tonight. I was so tired from all the canning I have been doing.
Maria, just wanted to add what beautiful dahlias. They are always a bright spot in the garden.
Thanks everybody for the votes of confidence in the thread starting. You have been so kind with your comments. ( I just hit something, and my address bar returned) this is too weird. I will finally get it. The important part is we keep talking, and talking and talking, (like the energizer bunny) even without the link.
Well, I think I am going to take a belated garden walk, maybe pull some weeds.
BBL.
I'm next for a nap. When I get up, I'm making some fried green tomatoes, YUM!
Mr. Slow never showed after church, nor even called. I did get some yard work done, plus some shallots and garlic planted. Still have about 75 leeks to plant but no place prepared for them. Sigh.
HUGE sigh of relief and thanks, the carriage went great, the horse was great, thanks for birthday wishes, I usually just skip it...
Now I feel great. It was a really fun and different thing to do!! I'll check back in after I get a nice long shower.
Well Dorothy (have to remember that goes with dmc), I'm glad you told us since your not listed in today's birthdays. You don't have to celebrate or even count the years, but celebrate the DAY and the fact that you are here. Do you have a pic of the carriage at the wedding? Maybe with the bride???
Been out in the garden for part of the afternoon. Finished weeding the last large unweeded area in my yard. I have a couple of smaller ones that still need work, but it's mostly done. I also spread out all the mulch I had and think I'll get some more tomorrow. Also dug out a clump of Iris that was full of borer. Does anyone know of an ecologically sound way to control that? My way, at this stage, is to get rid of the Iris. It doesn't bloom long enough for the space it needs and the problems it attracts.
The grandkids managed to share the cold they had with me last week (one of the unlisted thrills of being a grandparent). Have had a scratchy throat for a couple of days and this morning it seemed to have settled in an eye - maybe a blocked tear duct. That seems better now, but I still have the cold.
Anyway, think I'll take a quick bath and call it quits for the garden. Now I'm just watering. In spite of all the rain we've had (more rain in one storm last Monday than we usually get in a month), parts of my garden are quite dry.
BBL
Ann
Happy Birthday, Dorothy!!! Don't skip the celebration... do something else to pamper yourself after that nice long shower! I'm glad the carriage thing went well -- what fun! -- you surely had that carriage decked out in style! The fringe on it has got the song from "Oklahoma!" running through my head now.... The surry with the fringe on the top! I'm glad your "high steppin' strutter" behaved well.
I have to confess... I do not know anything about roses. 'Double Delight' is one of about half a dozen names that I know, so that was a complete lucky guess!
Mmmmm that looks tasty! I'll have mine with ice cream please.
Found TWO of the Elephant ears have come up, one was almost under a hosta, so I took it out, moved out another hosta and relocated them both. Took out the two tallest Valerian,which were crowding some speedwell into oblivion, and planted three geraniums in the bed. Filled two planters for the front of the house, and stuck a sweet potato vine in the window box with the petunias. The 'taters I put in there didn't sprout. Probably show up in fall!!
HOT out there and a strong breeze, so I watered all the pots on the deck. Was almost tempted to buy a tomato plant at the garden place, it had tomatos on it already...mine are far behind.
Yes, Dmcd, we need to see the bride and groom in that lovely decorated carriage. Glad everythng went well. ( I think I remember my 48th.....I was dating my now DH, when he was overjoyed to go anywhere with me....through blizzards, etc. Hmmm.
Maria,the dahlias are lovely, I think they are so beautiful. Trouble is, I either wait too long to dig them up in fall, or I dig them up and put them in the notorious safe place...you know, with the coffee....I found some this spring that I had from two years ago. They didn't grow.
Nice nap, Bonnie. Now you'll have to stay up late in order to get to sleep tonight. I was on the verge of napping when our housepest arrived, with a huge suitcase....! I hope he didn't bring his dirty laundry again. He should have had time to do it at home, he's not working. I am being polite. I am. Really. But not making dinner.
You canned enough green beans for an army. A friend of mine grows them to make dilly beans, you know, pickled with garlic and red chili pepper. Gives them away for gifts. Wakes your mouth right up.
Sarv, if you get page not found like that, you can hit the back button, and your post should still be there. Then, use the right clicker to copy it, and try it again. If it disappears, you should be able to sign on to DG again, and come to coffee, and paste your post in the reply box. You are using a mouse aren't you. I didn't like using the laptop without a mouse, I am as challenged as you with some of this stuff.
Can I have another piece of pie, thanks.....LOL
Going to go finish my book and make it look like I've lost track of time. ;-)
Sheila
Just hopped out of the shower= man do I feel better!! I was a sweaty hog...but did I get some color today! I spent an hour sitting with my legs dangling in the pool chatting with DIL. I forgot how many rays get reflected. I should have taken off my glasses as I look like a raccoon.
M5 - I do not use a mouse - only that little finger rectangle - I love it!! No place for a mouse in my lazy boy....
Gave the brugs a shot of 'iron' pellets. They are getting yellow around the edges...I did it earlier in the spring and it worked wonders.
Darn, if I didn't have my pj's on, I'd buzz on in and get an ice cream cone....drat..
Tomorrow I'm going to a lake with a bunch I used to work with - half are still working so I get to hear all their complaints. I just smile....
Let's see if I can post a pic of raccoon #8 - #9 was much bigger!! He filled the cage up completely.
