Wow, no kidding when you said you hit the Mother Lode! And to think, our car was parked right across the street from Sloats when we went to the Zoo on Monday. Only thing that saved me was that it just happened to be closed that day!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Sue, poor Sue! LOL

What a picture show. I loved every picture. Too much fun. Almost as good as buying them all myself. LOL
Well I better get to bed, I have alarm set for 6 am. I have to water all before I meet you Sue!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Seeing these in person was the bestest!!
And a great big hug and kisses for my goodies, already repotted this morning and placed in prominent spot on the begonia shelf outside! You're the best begonia addict enabler (well besides Kell, maybe I should say begonia IDing enabler that speaks latin!)

Lali, you must have felt like you died and went to begonia heaven when you saw all these fabulous begonia's in one spot. Thanks for sharinging your pictures.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh Patricia we thought of you and your name came up, (in a good way of course!) wished you could have come! We had a fabulous shop-till-you-drop day, SF then Berkeley Hort, East Bay and last but not least, Oakland Longs.
Hope all went well for you last Thurs.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks everyone! Yup, pretty much begonia heaven! I suppose I'll worry about how to stuff them into my greenhouse for winter later - but for now I'll just enjoy their beauty and the pleasure they bring!!

Kell and Sue found some nifty begonias at the sale and then we found some more while shopping in Oakland! Grabbed a 'Tiger Kitten' and a noid cane that looks like 'Medora' but with serrated edges. It's very dainty! Zuzu got a pretty tuberous variety (actually a two-fer, two colors in one pot!)

We found such incredible stuff while out gallivanting through Berkeley and Oakland. I'm in hot pursuit of a fuchsia I fell in love with at EB nursery. I have the standard green one, but this one is variegated. Fuchsia procumbens 'Variegata' The flowers don't even look real! I'm hoping my photos turn out. The plant itself isn't all that exciting, but as a ground cover it's, well, pretty darn nifty!!

EB had some nice begonias, "Looking Glass", "Boomer", "Emerald Lacewing", erythrophylla, and thurstonii. And Longs had some noids. All in all it was a pretty glorious day. And the 'Goddessii' made it all that much more special! (for an explanation of the Goddessii, see Kell's thread and DrDon's thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2485991 http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/620333/ )

lali,
wow!!
looks like you had as much self control as when we went to phoe. they are all gorgeous. i have a question do you remember the name of this one we got at phoe i think you got one as well. it was called mrs. ? the tag that i wrote the name on washed off.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

uh, Mrs. Brown's? As in you should send it to me cause it's got my name on it! ;-)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

It looks almost like a Petasites. Is it a begoinia for reals?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Did you give me this one? b. popenoei ??? I think I brought it outside from growing table today. It was from you Lali.

WOW Candela, WOW!!

Hey I didn't see "EB had some nice begonias, "Looking Glass", "Boomer", "Emerald Lacewing", erythrophylla, and thurstonii." Where were these?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Poopie poopie.

Well I made out, Lali girl got me a few of the hot begonias too. Which I haven't paid her for either. Oops. LOL

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Sorry Kell, I meant Berkeley Hort had those. My bad.

HEY CASS!!! where have you been hiding!!! Looks like you got Armando hooked on begonias good!!!
I remember now the begonia, but can't remember the name. Shoot. I'll ask Tim, mind if I 'borrow' your photo? It's as big as b. popenoei, but looks like it has slight hairs on the leaves. I dont think popenoei does.

Kell, yes, I gave you b. popenoei at the garden show. How's it doing for you? That little one you gave me that day just bit the dust. Well, it lost it's last leaf so, out to the ICU it went.

Sue, Cass has a nice, nice collection and garden. C'mon Cass, show us some new photos!!! (begging for a bit of your Miami begonia action!!)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Ok, I have one from the first plant sale that just went downhill. What do you do for ICU treatment? I gave it a H202 & water drink and am getting it to dry out a bit but all the leaves went limp and fell off.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Is it a rhizo or cane? If it's a rhizo, is it still firm, but just lost leaves? for a cane can you see 'green' at the soil level? Or is the cane shrivled?

ICU means I take it to my shade cloth covered green house for R & R. When I have them inside under lights or natural light, sometimes it gets too hot and dry in my playhouse (where I keep most of my begonias that I have indoors) - I have yet to install my A/C so some days I come in here and its in the 90's and things dry out, droop, loose their leave, get pouty etc.
The greenhouse is much cooler, milder temps and there is a bit more humidity due to the evaporation from the bark ground cover.
That's about all I do. (not to mention a sprinkler on a timer, so plants don't have to rely on a busy me for regular water)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

It's a rhizo and has been in the house since I bought it.

Looks ok to me (or is that a previous photo?). Is it 'Silver Shadows' (it looks a bit like 'Queen Olympus' which is one we don't sell, but I have)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

previous, when I first got it. No leaves left now. It didn't have a tag when I bought it at the sale. I have had it for 2 months and it did fine, not sure what happened.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I think it's Silver Shadows. is the rhizome firm? or mushy. Check for damping off. When (if at all) did you repot it and what soil mix?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I repotted it right after I bought it in potting soil and perlite mix and it looked great. I think it just stayed too damp this past week for some reason, it looks like the rex that I lost last week, just went limp and all the leaves rotted off. oh well, just it happens. My best ones are the ones I don't fuss over outside.

Hey Cass, sorry for not replying. I don't know the name of the rust colored one. Do you want me to ask Tim to id it for you? He's sending me a batch of new ones soon, so I can ask if you like.

Way to go on getting Armando hooked! Woo Hoo another addict added to the club! Not hard to do since there are so many beauties out there!!

Here's some rexie beauties from a little shopping foray Zuzu and I took the other day.

I can't wait to go to this one.

Listen Lali, if you see a 6 inch fat escargot please buy it for me. I had 2 extras and they were fantastic. I watered them and they drooped! Not to undroop yet. The pot was light too, I do not get why after all this time they punked out like that. I had promised a friend one so now I have to go out and find one to give to him. Shoot.

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

do they have a camp ground there because i would need to pitch a tent and stay for about a week.

We could just have a big slumber party at Zuzu's house, she lives right there near by (she's a begoniac but just hasn't admitted it yet! )

Kell, how are the rhizomes on your Escargot? Did they get mushy? I hit TJ's but they were out of them. I'll look again next time I go.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. You really think we are rubbing off on Zuzu? I do not think she has made it to this forum yet. LOL

If you find me one, get me 2. LOL. In case I kill mine too. I will check on the rhizomes. You know I think it was so dry then I watered it too well and closed off all the airholes. Like what you said to me earlier.
