Following some lengthy discussions, I am happy to announce the launch of our classified ads forum. It feels good to have a nice new shiny feature for the site. :)

Announcing the Classified Ads forum
Great! Any chance there could be a tab for this or an easier way to get to it, at least initially?
Is it readable by non-members and non-subscribers?
Dave will have to address the issue of whether it warrants its own tab or link, or not ;o)
But it is accessible to all visitors and non-subscribed members, which is good for merchants, and DG exclusive offers such as BuriedTreasures' may become an enticement for them to register and subscribe; or they can be worded to permit anyone coming in through this forum to take advantage of the special pricing.
I was looking under the home forums tab, but was surprised to see it under gardening. It's kinda hard to find if you're not looking for it, that's all.
Does that mean I get a commision if they subscribe.
;-)
Chris
Question: So if I decide I want something, like Iris, I can place an ad saying "would like to buy Iris"? Therefore it's not just for sellers, but buyers also?
Judy
Correct. You can advertise a "looking for" or "item wanted" ad, as well as a "for sale" ad.
As far as services/employment-related ads go, you can post a "help wanted", "business opportunity", "services offered" or "position wanted" type ad. For all ads, the groundrules are the same: as long as it's not for anything illegal or illicit, whether offered or sought...and my guess is there won't be any "personals"-type ads, either, assuming Dave Trish and I are on the same wavelength.)
Terry, do you think that there are singles here that may want to place "singles" ads. Giggle, Giggle, and you won't consider it? I am not in that category, but wouldn't it be great if some of our members "hooked up"?
defoecat: No, I won't approve any of those.
Dave, don't take offense, just being silly. I did envision someone placing a personal ad, glad to hear you won't accept them.
Phooey!!!
;)
defoecat: I didn't take offense. :-)
Drat!!! LOL Jo
You had yours all typed in and ready to post, did you, Jo?
(ducking... LOL)
Me too Marylyn, LOL

Ok!
I am willing!
[classified ads forum]
Other names seem to lack something.
Jus a member hoping for tha best.
I agree, "Market Bulletins" sounds like stock reports to me and since we can't mention them anywhere, LOL, why not call em like we mean em. Classified Ads!
Or maybe, "Classified Ads, Limited"
MHO
And you know I love this cyber place you created here.
Sidney
Sugar, you're right, "Market Bulletins" doesn't seem exciting at all. I get something like that from the local grocery store sales. of course, personally, I fell in love with "DBay"! "Classified Ads" tells it short and sweet and raises curiosity, which is the only way the word can be spread.
I think so many DG'ers aren't aware of the wonderful things Dave has for us. If one more person asks me what the Newsletter is, I'm going to scream. And, I don't think they ever read the lists of Forums on the opening page, I've lurked in every one of them!
Goodness, I sound grumpy this morning....time for coffee....quick!
Pati
Pati: we have a newsletter? What's that? (ducking and laughing)
I'll change the name back to Classified Ads.
dave
Dave, you are Sooooo bad! LOL
Love the change........You're the best.
Pati
Thanks,
;)
Now, how about changing the name of THIS thread????
;)
Sugar....nag, nag, nag! LOL
Pati

Yea, thanks dave!!!!
You're the best!
I wish Grannylois would share you with me, I know you make her so proud.

Dave uses this!
Thanks Dave!
I have one wish/suggestion... It would be nice that when visitors/members went to the homepage and they are presented with a list of all 185 forums, that the 'Classifieds' was a 'sticky' or something where it was the top-ranked forum in the list. I know my homepage is sorted by latest post - and due to the volume of posts, the Classifieds is near the bottom of the list due to the time of last post. It would bring more attention to the Classifieds section and, therefore, be more effective advertising, if it were at the top of the list of forums.
Michael, that's an interesting point.
Dave, perhaps all the newest forums could enjoy their proverbial "15 minutes of fame" by being given a special area at the top of our home pages for their first month...(or it could be a list of the ten newest forums, which might mean a forum stays up there for several months, or perhaps just a few weeks.)
This section could be like any other section displayed on our homepage - the default settings include this on the members' home pages, but we can choose to move it to a different position or remove it if isn't of interest.
If/when this forum takes off, it shouldn't have any trouble remaining near the top of the "favorite forums" list for those who have marked it as such - new ads will keep it buoyed near the top of the list.
I have to agree with Michael. I keep forgetting it's there for the same reason. I've not been on the computer much. I check whatever is at the top when I get on and sometimes don't get any further because I have to get back outside. I've seen mention of it a few times in the forum and most are surprised or didn't know about it.
Hello Michael! I see you are new. Welcome to DG!
Bad - I asked a few people that use DG's forums a couple hours a day about the Classifieds when I was considering posting an ad there. They didnt know it existed, they thought I was talking about Plant Scout.
Yup, I/we are new to DG but so far I like what I see; you may have to evict me to get me to leave. :-)
Michael, glad you're here too.......but please bring pictures of your two babies when you come back to the Pet Forum! (smile)
Pati
I can see Michael's point. The Classified Ads forum is at more of a disadvantage than the other forums because members can't reply, so it never gets bumped back to the top again unless there's another ad posted.
Good point!
;)
Classified Ads forum is so neat Thanks for having this for us Dave and Gang !
That's a good point about it not being bumped up due to new activity, Joan.
Well the ad's are for only two weeks and new ones are on top. Right now there are not many but I can see if there were five hundred it could present a challenge . But I'm sure Dave and Terry and others will have ideas to help with this .
Dave and Terry
What happens if someone buys/places an order and you mark it SOLD and they don't pay ?
Thanks, Allison
Are you talking about the items you're selling? If so, that's an "inventory management" issue you'll have to decide how to handle behind the scenes. You can't change the ad to remove items or mark them as "sold" so however you're keeping track - what you have, vs. what has been spoken for - is up to you.
It's just like a classified ad in your newspaper in that regard. If you're not sure the buyer is going to come through with the money, you may want to keep other interested parties on a waiting list.
Don't mark it gone until you receive the funds. You can always send private 'Taken but your request is on file.' message.
;)
Interestingly enough!
-
For those running their own websites & using DG's Classifieds and have stat counters will appreciate; They really do have a world wide following.
Thanks Ya'll!
I'm finding a general audience not only here in tha US but jus about anywhere lol everywhere referred through DG.
The little box thing or the words (site meter) depending on which puter I'm using is full of data. Its also free!
The addy, URL can be found by clicking it should you be interested and want one.
