The DG Classified Ads area is ready to accept ads

If you don't know about this, read this thread first:

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/622877/

The code is not finished (I've only worked on it today) but it is indeed ready to accept new ads. All the code is there for the ad creation system, as well as the moderation side (where we approve or decline the ads).

The last step, which I am planning to finish tomorrow, will be to add the code that accepts the payment and then puts the ads up for view. It's exciting!

Okay, so anyone who wants to create an ad, please go here:

http://davesgarden.com/forums/dbay/

Feel free to poke around and don't be afraid to mess around. We're just beta testing for now. If you submit an ad that I approve, you still don't have to pay for it so go ahead and play around.

Dave

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow...and it looks so easy to do!

Pretty quick work, dave!

Hmmm...now what have I got around here to sell?
Plants? Seeds? Stories? Advice? (Naw...my advice is always free!) ô¿ô

Another great feature. I think this will be fun for everyone!

Shoe.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

? for you Dave....

Where is the forum that we read the ads that have been placed?

Hap

Happy_1, that's not finished yet.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Ah So, Little Gwasshopper....

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Great Dave. When anybody has a new idea, you seem to be able to implement it immediately. Thanks, now I gotta look around and see what I can sell.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, I know you said nothing illegal and no explosives. What about a mouthy 12 year old?? :)

I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I'm ready to call today done!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

I think that falls in the illegal category........

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I was thinking the explosive category. LOL

San Jacinto County, TX(Zone 8a)

Notice there was some mention about our members around tha world.
I have enjoyed meeting several (online here at DG)

I jus placed an ad here and hope its approved. Not for sales at this time so much as to see the responce.
I am not a great nor even good webmaster. Don't have a shopping cart, working on setting up UPS and the rest should be easy for me. Hope!

My point lol is near half of my visits are from outside the United States. page views and length are surprising. Site is question is a [produce.html] thing.
I think this will be verrry interesting. Great idea Dave and all...

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

hmmm, we still have 9 Border Collie puppies, but if I advertised here, it would have to be with a stipulation about being available only to the US and more comfortably to the eastern half thereof. How would that work in with the idea? I guess that's the same question as heycharlie.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hello Trish!!

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

HA!!!!

Dave even used dBay to name the forum.

Nice.

Chris

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Charlie and Kathleen, you can include whatever stipulations and provisos you wish. If you will only accept buyers from a particular city, state, region or country, that's your choice. If the buyer must pick up the item, rather than having it shipped, you can - and should - include that in your ad.

You're not limited on how much text you can add, nor are you charged by the amount of text - if you need to elaborate on any point, you're free to do so.

Heycharlie

Are you also selling or (if you don't sell outside the US) getting sales enquiries from a proportionate amount to the non-US viewers too? :) If you are then well done and please share your secret! For me when people are just viewing on a regular basis and over a long time, it's good to know it's providing someone with some entertainment but I'm also wondering what's preventing that sale.

It will be interesting to see how the ads pan out, I'm sure it will be a positive boon to some of the members.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

I know I'm not the brightest flower in DG, and I can't find the forum.....please?
Pati

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't think it's up yet, Pati. And you're a bright flower, dazzlingly so. We should call you Zinnia. :)

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Awww Kimberly...thanks. You are so perceptive, you know I'm NOT a blushing rose, nor a flirtatious daylily. LOL
Pati

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Will it be illegal to send D-mails about this Forum?
Will a reference to the Forum period be out of line?
GW, I agree Ms Zinnia!
;)

Yes, the self-promotion rule continues across the entire site; including dmails.

People will need to find the ads in the forum all by themselves, without being led there by dmail or posts in a different area. We'll be strictly enforcing this.

Dave

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

So we cant say check the dbay Forum as a general statement.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Have you decided on a name for the forum yet? Will it have a tab at the top or a link or?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I would think no mention of ones ads would be the best policy, otherwise there might be too many people working ad references into their posts.

The Market Bulletins forum (that's the new name) has been launched!!

All we need now is for some people to post ads. :)

dave

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

ummm, errrr....maybe my computer was slow to hear the news, but the forum is "Classified Ads" on my display ;o) (I *do* like the name Market Bulletins...as you well know. But whatever you want to call it is fine. ;o)

Sorry, Terry, that was an oversite. Would you change the name?

dave

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Would it be proper to say, "Don't forget to check out the Dave's Garden Forum, there's always something interesting happening there"?

Some people obviously don't spend 23 hous a day checking forums like I do, and haven't even found the news letters yet!
Pati

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I know I read that someone placed an ad. HeyCharlie I think, but it's not showing up for me? This leads me to believe that it's in a pending que somewhere or I'm not finding the right place to look for them?

There are two ads that have been submitted, and both are approved, but neither have activated the ad yet...

dave

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Ah, okay. So the submitter has to activate their ad. I'm thinking that they might not know that. Or do they automatically get a notification?

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Inquiring minds want to know.
Sidney

They do get notified; once I approve the ad they get a dmail telling them what to do next.

dave

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Good! It appears that you really have thought of everything. :)

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

this is very exciting dave, way to go!

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

Well I checked out the "so far" ads and this is COOL!
Thanks!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Dearest Dave,

You realize the more features you put on this already FAB site, the longer it's going to take you to retire. YOU CAN'T LEAVE US!!!!!

Hap

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

I'll drink to that Hap!
Pati

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Awwww, he's a young'un - plenty of years until he needs a rocking chair and cane ;o)

I'm not planning to retire; I'll be working till the day I day. It helps that DG is easy work. :)
