Container Advice Wanted

Northern, IN

Since I’m on the climate/weather subject, I’ll add that I take any wanted/needed cuttings in early September as I’ve found them to be much more metabolically active and they out perform October cuttings 2 or 3 to 1.

Granted, this is Zone 5 stuff but the world class bruggers reading this might get an idea or two sparked.

FYI, only.

Too bad you do have such a short season Dave. Do you take big cuttings with stem and Y attached? I guess the trick is to get going as early as you can. This next eyar I am going to heavily fertilize at the end of March to try to get mine in full swing.

I have noticed that also Dave. The earlier you take your cuttings the better. If you wait till the plant is on its dormant decline, it is an uphill battle for sure.

yep, Kell,

I only take beefy cuttings with a "Y" and the closer to the base I can get, the more meat is on those bones. To hurry my season, I am going to put all my potted (and staked) cuttings on my back deck the 1st of March in '07 and just carefully watch when they need to be brought in for the night. This is a full 2 months before it is safe to put them in the ground.

We'll see.

BTW, I just had to the word "Kell" to my new Firefox 2.0 dictionary - how dare they !

My bloom season is so late that I have to take my cuttings late, too. I did bring in one brug that was started from cuttings above the Y to see how it winters over and maybe blooms earlier next year. It had buds but had not bloomed. It is Weiss Pusaune.

I haven't taken cuttings early either Betty. Do as I say not as I do. I am pathetic but cute. LOL I iwl lhave to look up Weiss Pusaune, I can't place tha tone.

Say again Dave! I didn't quite catch it. So FireFox has me in their dictionary? I won't even ask how they define me. LOL

No, Kell,

I was just pointing out that the BRAND NEW Firefox 2.0 (you need to get it) spell check dictionary didn't think that "Kell" was a word even worth including. I'd sue!

woodspirit1,

I plant 2 DD just to cut to the ground for the best possible cuttings in early September before they could possibly bloom in Zone 5.

I'm here only because the World Series is in a rain delay so if you want to chat - chat away!

I'm hoping that mpabbott1 will drop by because there is something I'm eager to tell her.

It's only 7:35 PM her time.

Well Dave, now I am so crushed. I am left wondering if I then do even exist.

My husband said the game is rained out and he is watching football and he has me watching the dog`show. I always see dogs I never even heard of before. I am waiting to see who gets best in show.

I'm here! What's up Dave?

As you may know by now, I’m a sports nut and that includes football.

Poway…Not much else. Small town...

I happen to know that the kids from Poway hit one heck of a lot harder than the “softies” living in Rancho Sante Fe, LaJolla and Del Mar. BTW, you pack a pretty good punch yourself.

Hooray for Poway !

Why thank you Dave! Poway has grown a bit from the small unincorporated town it once was. When we first moved here I was delighted to see a horse tied up outside the K Mart while the owner/rider shopped inside. It is also well known for having the best school system around. Lots of first time home buyers try to buy in Poway to get their kids in the school system. If I had become a teacher instead of a Respiratory Therapist, I would have liked to teach here.

Glad our Poway kids can hit one out of the park, so to speak.

Mary
