Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

my name was taken, so i went with my initials.i'm good at remembering phone numbers even if they are not in use anymore. so i used the first 3 numbers of my dad's old number to honor him. he would of loved dave's garden.

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Ny first initial and hubby's first intial twice. Otherwise I would never remember ny own name. ves522 where is Jim Falls WI?????????????? I'm in Waukesha.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

hi cececogan!!!!! jim falls is about 40 minutes north of eau claire. so we are on opposite sides of the state. are you zone 4 also? i've got an aunt and a couple of cousins that live down there. but have never been there myself. i imagine its pretty busy. my husband and i have 40 acres. the yard is maybe 2 acres. maybe more. most of my gardening is close to the house. i wouldn't want to drag the hoses too far. seems like all i've been doing is watering and replanting plants.
what do you do? i'm pretty new at emails and computer stuff so please forgive my mistakes.

vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi vicki, I'm not the most up on computer stuff myself. Thank goodness for my baby. He's 15 and get me out of most of the messes I get into on the computer. You wouldn't believe the things I'd have lost for if he didn't know how to find them. Ha No I'm zone 5a. But in WI winter in winter and goes on forever.
My now husband but at the time fiancee bought us place on the southside of Waukesha with a 1/2 acre of land. It was a clean slate not a flower or plant in sight. A few mature trees and ugly globe bushes that didn't do anything but sit there and be green. Since June of 2004 I have put in 12 flower beds. I want more but hubby won't part with any more of his lawn. But we'll see about that.
Two acres to play with I would be in 7th heaven!:) We moved here June 2004 and got married January 2006. I have 4 kids from a previous marriage. Two girls ages 25 and 18 and two sons ages 22 and 15. Oh and a granddaughter 9 months.
Yep seems like I'm ever doing is watering weeding and deadheading. I love it though. It such a wonderful sense of accomplishement to look at all the flowers in bloom and know I put them there . I must be doing something right because they are thriving and blooming for me. I sweated out 6 beds last winter that they would come back now I have ever so much more to worry about this coming winter. My hubby says anything to worry and rolls his eyes. What can I say? What are your favorite plants you've put in? I think mine are becoming the shasta daisies, purple conflowers and black-eyes susans, though roses used to be my all time favorites. Theystill are I guess but now they have competition.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

hi again! one of those days where i'm on and off the computor. think i even got in a half hour nap between moving the sprinkler. it sure got hot out there and we aren't suppose to get any rain until sat.
i have 6 flowerbeds. one i kind of added this year. it was a very old one that didn't have much left in it. daylillies, irises, pink peony and a white lilac. i removed the daylillies and most of the irises. boy did that leave me a lot of room.. went to the rock pile and the field found some nice rocks and put in a raised bed. it looks so much nicer. wish i could send a picture. i filled it with more periennials and lots of annuals. went with reds. so i have no idea how it will look.
we have lived here since jan. 1975. i have almost always had a vegie garden. probably started more serious with the flowers about 6 yrs. ago. 5 yrs. ago i revamped the vegie garden. got tired of dragging the hose out to the back forty. anyway that's what it felt like. moved it closer to the house and went with raised beds. used materials i had. so it has been very low cost. it's the plants, seeds and soil the cost the most.
my son is 28. not married so no grandkids yet. but i have 2 greatnephew and seveal nieces. my son helps me with the computer if he isn't gaming, working or sleeping. my husband helps me with anything that is real heavy or i can't build. our 40 is on a deadend road and the third house is being built way at the end. so we don't have much traffic. kids use to party at the end but no more. no more racing up and down the road. what a relief!!!!
10 acres are in corn. one of the neighbors does that.. my husband puts in a sm. plot ot corn for the deer. but this year the turkeys ate it twice. he did replant it the first time. he is pretty upset about it. he has to feed his deer.
i'm trying to figure out if i have one favorite flower and i don't. i love irises, daylillies, peonies, petunias, sunflowers, marigolds, stocks and the list goes on. i'd love to put in a sm. field of sunflowers for the birds. add some of the different ones for color but mostly to feed them. i've got lots of ideas. but i think i'm pretty much at my limit with what i can keep up with. but we'll see.
i'm really enjoying talking to you. not to many of my friends are this into gardening. sorry this is so long. take it easy this afternoon and don't fry outside.

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi Vicki,
I love to garden but didn't know it til 2004 when we moved in and there was no flowers. When I was married the first time we lived in houses with established plants. I was too busy with babies to do much more than enjoy the ones that were already there than to think much of putting any in. Then once I was divorced we lived in top floors of duplexs, Second floor apartments. There was no where to put a plant. I met Ed coming up on 6 years in Sept.2000. In June of 2003 the kids and I moved in with him due to My job leaving WI market. (I worked as as deli clerk for Kohls foods) That was on the 7th floor of a condo in downtown. March of 2004 we just happened to drive by the place andthey were having open house and we stopped on a whim. ( Being early March you couldn't really tell there were no flowers.) I fell in love the size if the yard, front and back. About two weeks later Ed surprised me by putting in an offer and it was accepted and Voila I have my house with the big yards and when we came for closing I walked around the yard---no flowers, two dead trees, ugly green things and a raised flower bed full of weeds. (We cloed Memorial weekend of 2004). Needleass to say, I started planning and am planning to this day. I did all the grunt work. The pulling of grass, hauling topsoil and compost manure, hauling all the plants from the front to the back, planting them and then weeding and watering. They are my babies and no will do it better than me. Or so I tell myself. Ed did put up the lattice fence for me. and he built the two new raised beds frame of wood. The stone work around the one garden My 22 yo got for work when doing a new house and brought them home for me (He does drywall work) I wish I could take pic to send. My camera took a powder. Ed bought it for me for christmas so its still under warranty. When I called Sony they had me send it to connecticut. Don't they have anything closer???? i asked. NO Connecticut. Gosh knows when or even if I;ll ever get it back!!!lol
Busy pretty much yesterday. Alot of deadheading to be done and watering. Still did not have the courage to cut back my baby's breath. If i want to dry them I have to but oh they are so pretty. If I want them to bloom once more this season I best get with it but...........
I'm mainly a perennial person. Once its is planted it keeps coming back and I get new plants at division time every 3 years without spending any more money. Thats the pint Ed is waiting for. the spending no more money part. lol. He complains about it but he wouldn't take one part of it away from me. He knows I've found a passion.
Have you heard of Melinda Meyers, the plant doctor? She lives in Milwaukee and has numerous plant books written. I have 4 or is it 5 of them myself. We had met her at a home and landscaping program at the expo. After her talk, Ed raised his hand and asked how do I make her stop? Stop what? Stop buying plants. She just shook her head and said sorry there is stopping her now. Gardening is a disease for which no cure has ever be found. We saw her at Steins Garden Center this past May Ed told her the state dept of Horticulture called him and said we had well over out quota of plants for this area. There is no such a place? I don't think. Anyway we have fun. And my plants take over every inch of my time.
I do have to go thoug, Shower dress, grocery shop, drug store, possibly steins. I need to stop at Wal-Mart. So I best be going. I enjoy talking to you also. Have a wonderful day and I will bbl if my kid isn't still on. ~~~~~bye Cherie

Hello Vicki,
Well I'm back . Ended up stopping and looking at plants thats in the grocery parking lot. I am so weak. 40.00 later I get ho,me. Now to figure out where to go with them. I bought 2 'Kobold ' prurple Liatris. Those I know where I'll put. I have some white liatris in my side garden and they just need a zip. The purple mixed will just be enough. The petunias I didn't need nor the coleus nor the pentas. I'm a lost cause. What can I say? I'm gonna sgo stare at them for inspiration. BBl to say hi.~~~~~~Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

i love your husbands sense of humor. you have done a lot in 2 yrs. there's nothing wrong with perennials. but sometimes i like change and annuals are easy to do that with and i do start most of mine. i'd of had plenty this year if they did't keep burning up. the 2 beds that get the most shade are doing pretty good now. the one i'm really pleased with. there's malva, crepsis, coreopsis, stocks, marigolds, petunias, and two other's i can't think of.
the trip to town went good. stopped at the nursery picked up some annuals for fillers and found 2 painted daisy starts. they were all 76 cents ea. i'd been there wed. and picked up some other perennial starts. now i do have to stop going.
stopped at salavation army and talked with a friend i hadn't seen all summer. good thing she runs the store.
got home and just sat down at the computer and my son came home. hadn't seen him for almost 2 wks. he even sat at the table to talk. told him my bear story. he was amazed. he'd been sick most of that time. of course someone brought it to work. he was glad to be home!!!!
i have deadheading to do also and some plants to plant. it can wait until after supper. we might get rain tomorrow. i sure hope so. my rain barrels are empty. i might go out and take some pictures of the flowers. use up the roll of film so i can get it developed. the monte negro lillies are gorgeous.
when we are capable we'll have to share pictures. have a good afternoon,
vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey Vicki,
Just got the chance to get back on. With two teenagers in the house I must compete with them for this computer.
Watered eveything really early this morning, more deadheading and more weeding. Those little tasks seem to be endless.
I do annuals too. I just put them in containers then I can change them around every year when I find something that really works great I do it the same way the next; if it didn't work I change it. I like the ideas of perennials in the beds because they seem more permanent like the hardscaping. I came up with a lovely idea for a new bed this fall bbetween my lilacs and I won't even have to buy plants for my daylilies, gaillardias, and a couple shasta need to be divided already. I want to put the tree white peonies in and a couple Russian Sages in and I will have blooms from May to frost in one bed! Talking hubby into parting with some of his precious lawn is tricky though. I always win, he knows that. I think he just likes to put up a good front. Actually he likes that I cater to his every whim till I get my way. Come to think of it I do that anyway...........ooh he's in somuch hot water. Now I'll get my lawn to dig up.

Yes as soon as Sony sees fit to send my camera back working correctly I'll post some of my beds. Right now I must go, hubby is hollering down that he's going for a drink and I haven't played trivia in a few weeks so I'l ~~~~~~~~~~bye to ya. More soon Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

evening cherie, i kind of got lost, so i,ve been all over the place. good way to check some of the other sites. down in texas there are several court cases pending with there local hoa. they were nice gardens. some people are so mean and small minded.
started planting some perennial starts this morning and it started to rain. such a nice gentle rain! lasted maybe 45 min. not nearly long enough. i had to go and water a few things, but in the morning i'll have to do a full watering. i was so hoping to get a couple of days off. i keep thinking the well will go dry even though we have never had any trouble with it.
anyway i got to go in the house and talk to my niece for awhile. she told me she had a great birthday. by the time we got done it was lunchtime already. then hubby had to go and find wheels for the trailer he is building. i got to go back out and do some weeding. the backhill gets to hot to work in. it's on the southside. full sun.
after doing that for awhile i went in to cool off. then back out to do some deadheading. got that bed done. in the new bed i planted what i thought was suppose to be a red mallow is actually pink like i already have. i'm kind of upset. it doesn't work where i put it and it was a waste of money since i already had it. the catalog definitely said red too! okay! i'm past that. breathe deeply!!
moved a chair and pot to a different spot. oh! so much better! cleaned up the area that came from. now have to figure out what else to do there. it doesn't feel right yet.
wow!!! i just looked at the time. i'd better get going.

Hey Vicki! God Mornig to you. Not much time for much more than a wave but I'LL WRITE MORE IN HERE IA AWHILE bbl~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Cherie ( sorry hit the caps lock, that thing is in the wrong place. I usually catch it quicker.)

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning Vicki. Got my new flower bed. Not where I was hoping but where I wanted to put one the first summer we were here. It was his idea so I guess I'll have to learn to make everything sound like it was his idea. lol This morning I went out removed the grass where the new bed will be. DH bought some lanscape timber at Home Depot yesterday and I imagine he'll put the frame together after work. Then I'll be off and buing some manure compst and some topsoil to add to the bed. Have changed my mind 1000 x's on what I want to put n there. I know for sure the whitepeonies and a little Korean lilac I bought at steins on May. I'm just not happy where I have her now. (Miss Kim lilac hence her). Ed just likes to give me a hard time about my flowers and garden beds. He always relents and lets me put one in. Maybe next summer it'll be his idea to put one by the Lavender Lady lilacs. I can wait. Most of the plants I buy are small to teach me patience. The last bed I put in was my instant gratification bed. Every plant bought where in 1 and 2 gallon pots and most were blooming already. This new bed will be all plants from divisions and transplants. I am so ectited about this I can hardly contain myself. I want to be planting now but anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time so.........I'll wait.
Whats on the agenda for your day? Anything exciting? Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

afternoon cherie! i haven't accomplished too much today. got off to a slow start. finished deadheading the back hill and pulling up some thyme. now i can take in the trimmer and trim it down before it goes to seed. love that stuff but it spreads like wildfire!!!!!!! good way to learn how to get rid of plants.
you sure were full energy today. sounds like such a nice idea. i've still got some of my starts to plant and a few annuals. i'm waiting to see what will make it.. probably have to do some watering later. the one bed of mine i'm not sure i like it. i'd like to add some more soil. i just can't get a good feel for it. maybe when the flowers that are in it fill out. you ever have that problem? another bed isn't looking right either because of frying but i have planted some other plants. they aren't what i had planned and that's probably why the off feeling.
picked some peas today. i put in enough to throw on salads. we'll have cukes pretty soon. some of those i put in containers and they are really doing good now. the corn started to tassel yesterday. so on the vegie front i'm feeling better.
today is lots cooler except when the sun peeks out. but the plants will sure do better in this weather. it might rain tomorrow. so tonight i'll water what i have to!!!
filled a vase with rudbeckias. the plant was falling over. now that area looks neater. not that i'm a neat freak but you can now see the crazy daisy better.
i'm still trying to figure how to change the west side of the greenhouse. it will be with pots. that way if anything has to be torn down i can move it all. it does need paintng this year. next year the front porch gets painted. i figure every 2-3 years.
the hubby went up north to his brothers. i got tired of going all the time and then sitting there for 10-12 hours. just to long of a day.
i'd better go and see what else is going on. have fun with the new bed.

Hi Vicki! Got my new garden in!!Yea!!!!!!! I put the soil and amendments in yesterday morning and befoe you'd know it I started digging up plants and replanting them there. By noon the whole bed was done. Two of the three peonies I transplanted got awful wilty and I thought wonderful I killed them./ This morning got up and they are standing there striaght and tall and beautiful again so I didn't kill them Yeah! Taking DM and DD out for dinner tonight, then to go hear a band down the road. Its a one man band but sooooooo fun. He played at our reception barbcue in our backyard last month and we had a ball. I think , no I know everyone was have so much fun. He was going by the house yesterday morning while I was working out there and stopped. Another bed????? He said his wife is so jealous of all my flowers. They live in a apartment comlex now that all his kids are grown and married. She misses her flowers. I told him tell her to come by anytime She can help weed and water and fertilize. She'll think twice about being jealous now. Ha.
doorbell ringing bye for now~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

got your message. i left a small one on the daily. i envy your engery. i can't believe you got that bed in so fast. sometimes it would be nice to have help but you are right they would't be back to often. sometimes it would e nice to have some company while we work. i live on a deadend road with only one other family so we don't see to many other people. sometimes it's alittle to quiet.
i don't have to many plans for today just going to play it by ear and see how things go. maybe just stay cool. later vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi Vick,
Well I'm surrounded by neighbors but never see anyone. Its like they lock themselves in from the world. When hubby gets hoem we sit outside and read the paper, have our dinners out on the patio, work aound the yard laugh act stupid, no one is ever outside. We all have at least 1/2 acre lots and there is never anyone enjoying thei lots but us. Oh well. Actually, my son gave me a forest face for christmas as a joke gift. I put it on a tree by my garden shed and named it Horatio. So when I'm weeding back there or watering I talk to Horatio or to the birds our to my flowers. Somehow I don't feel alone in what I'm doing and the time goes quickly past.
I got that bed in because I have NO patience for waiting. I want everything done now. Instant gratification always. Last night Ed said one more bed and I will be cremated sooner than later. No sense of humor. Thats only cause I was looking at a garden catalog and he knows that always means more plants. lol. He's a sweetie but no more beds this summer. I've put in 6 now with this new one. I just want to sit back and enjoy instead of planning and plotting and making myself crazy. So from now until Setpt. end of Sept. I will plant nada nothing. Then its time to put bulbs in, in each of the new beds. That'll get me through til end of October the with Nov and Dec being so busy I won't think much of gardens but by Feb. look out Ed. He knows it too. More later. Cheroe

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

at least we have quiet neighborhoods. i'm in the catalogs by nov. but its mostly for seeds. i start alot of my plants. would of had plenty if they hadn't been frying this year. good excuse to go to klingers.
i don't do very many bulbs. i'm thinking of getting a few. i want to take it slow. what with the critter problem.
at least my head is better. now i can do some work in the house today. go back out about 7 tonight and see if anyone needs water. sounds like a plan.

DM&D came in from Watertown yesterday. Didn't get much of anything done then. Went out for buffet and I ate way too much. I'm still full from 15 hours ago!!!! Then we stopped to listen to music and my brother and his wife came, my sis and her husband did too, My oldest son even stopped in. Needless to say I didn't get home til after midnight. Slept good like a rock.
You know the west is burning and the east is flooding I guess right now being in the mid-west looks kinda good to everybody. Going to be a hot one. Forecast is 85 in Milwaukee means almost 90's here. Fri, Sat. and Sun Milwaukee is calling for 90's so.......... its the humidity I can't handle. I'm cutting my hair. Is almost to the middle of my back , pony tails give me a headache and nothing else will stay in. I'm gonna go for a short cut I think. something easy fast and cool. Well I've said it now to get the nerve to do it. That there is whole different story. As far as bulbs, I just love daffs and grape hyacinths. Thinking about snow crocus tis time as well. My critters had better behave themselves. Daffs are usually left alone and we haven't a deer problem here so I needn't worry about the crocus.
My son says he know where Jim Falls is , said he's fished there with gf dad and brother. Says its not far from Hocum (sp) where his gf is from. Her parents still live up that way. He gets around more than me. Him and that blasted motorcycle. What can I say?

I really must get l;aundry done today. Should have done it yesterday. Write more later have a great day. Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

morning cherie almost afternoon. i just got home from errands. it is so humid!!!!!! 86 degrees suppose to hit 90 no rain. i miss the rain.

i feel like i've been on the go since yesterday afternoon. i was talking to a friend and she told me her friend was having a lily show.[there's some kind of lily club up here] asked if i wanted to go. i said sure. she picked me up at 5 and we got there around 5:30. she has some nice lillies and other perennials. reg. flowerbeds and some that look more natural. i even had some of the same flowers. told my friend that my flowers look just as nice as her's. that was so conceted. it was so hot that we left and went out for supper. so much cooler. i'm a humidity wimp!

this morning i got up early [5:30] and watered my plants. i knew some of them would be pretty dry when i got home. started getting ready to go and the phone kept ringing. i thought i was never going to get out of here before it got to 90. the last call was from another friend who had dr. app. but we squeezed in half an hour to have coffee and a muffin. i had lemon poppyseed oh so good. then came home put groceries away and ran to the computer.

haircuts are scary. i've always had long hair. then went to shorter and a perm. right now i'm back to longer and straight. don't know what i'm going to do with it.

holcombe isn't far from me. 20 min. very small town like mine. blink and it's gone. good area to live though. jobs could be better. but it is quiet and pretty safe.

if my phone doesn't start to ring after lunch maybe i can get some inside work done.
stay cool and talk later vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

good morning Vicki.
I wimped out again yesterday and bought some more plants. I am so wak. ONly they're cosmos, filler plants for my new garden bed and they were 50% off so only cost 75 cents each. Just too hot to plant them yesterday afternoon so waited until almost 8 o'clock to do that. Ed says I'm a lost cause and I shouldn't even remark that I won't buy any more, cause I know I'll do it whether its 50% off or not.

Ed asked me very sweetly to please not cut my hair. He likes it long. So.........since he does so much for me and the kids I can do this for him and keep it long. A trim though definately a trim and figure out some way to wear it where I don't get a headache from ponytails or buns or something. Tyhis is such a small request that I can't just go ahead and whack it off.
I need to get more coffee and check on things outside. It was raining a nice soft shower at %, the weather channel is saying 87 with isolated thunderstorms this afternoon some possibly severe so I guess I need to keep an eye on that. Don't need our patio tent taking up flying. Water the front beds last night and was gonna do the back this morning but it was raining and now I don't know if I should or not. I know the rain we did get this morning was not a good soaking, do I water now and then have a deluge this afternoon? or do I wait and see what happens. Decisions, decisions. Whats a body to do?
More later if I can get the puter away from my chillins,,, Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

morning cherie!! just a quick one. i want to get outside. no rain. had clouds. clear sky now. more later

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Well its raining again. Soft rain not the wind, hail, flooding kind. Guess I'll just have to play it by ear. Would be a good day to do some thorough cleaning in the house. Course went outside and cut some shastas for a couple of vases since I have so many blooming. I have quite an assortment of shastas, Switzerland, Becky, Snowcap, crazy Daisy , Alaska and whatever they are in my wildflower bed. Big blooms, medium and small. Make nice bouquets. I add a few of the heuchera blossoms in and purple coneflowers as well. As soons as the blk-eyed susan buds start opening I'll have them too. I went over all my beds and wrote down what was in each of them and I have put in over 300 plants of about 75 different manes. Course there's multiple of several but........I don't remember planting that many. That comes out to an average of 100 plants a growing season since we've been here. It just didn't seem like that to me , there it is in black and white and all numbered sop I must have. Its unreal to me that I managed to get away with 300 plants. I must be nuts or something. Or something as DH would put it. more later. I really should do something other than sit at this computer. ~~~~*grin* Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

hi!!!i'm back in the house couldn't stand the humudity anymore. i finished cleaning up the bed i started a couple of days ago. i'm starting to get ideas for it.
got an old crib from a friend.[ now this is along the greenhouse] took one of the railings and leaned it against the greenhouse. took a low growing sedum and put by the end by the rainbarrel also one of my rocks. on the other end i put another rock and a bit of the sedum. that's as far as i got. there are also 4 hanhging baskets with monopsis in them. 1st time i tried growing that. suppose to be good growing in baskets. we'll see.

never heard of the snowcap or switzerland daisy. all i have is the crazy daisy and this year it doesn't look to crazy.

that is a lot of plants. if i counted all my annuals i'd have more. but that's not the same. it has to be gorgeous at your place.

i have a rhubeckia bouguet right now. i haven't thought of cutting anything else.
picked my 1st cukes today. so happy~~~now i don't have to buy any. i'm hoping for plenty to give away.
in 10 min. i have to go and move the sprinkler. i just had to do a heavier watering today. i put that off for almost a week. so i didn't think that was to bad. we aren't suppose to get any rain until mon. yeah right! then it will be over 2 wks. i know not as bad as some places but that's long for us.
say cool. vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning Vicki!!!!!
Up really early this morning. Up since 4:30. Waiting for washer to quit and hang clothes. Supposed to be a hot one today. It really hasn't been all that ho here, Not like everyone else has been saying. We might even hit the 100 mark if it get as high in Mil. as they are saying. Wer'e always about 5-6 degrees warmer than Mil. Its been humid though. Even 76 degrees is miserable when the humidity is also 76%. I do not like the humidity. The very first spot it bothers me is the back of the neck under my hair. Oh well, won't vut it cuz hubby likes it long. What can I say?????? Whats the plans for you today? I'm weeding. Weeding and washing(again) and weeding some more. BBL :)Cherie

Gave up weeding til I cool off. 82 in the shade on my patio at 9:15 in the blasted am. Did I mention I like hot hate humid? Got three beds weeded. I despise garlic mustard. I grows over night. If I find out someone around here is cultivating it on purpose. oooh. Need coffee but must make more.

morning cherie, even though not much is left. i keep having problems with my server. yesterday was fine. now today it's#$$#%^%%$@$

i was outside by 7 this morning. had to get something done. fed the birds and fish. then got out my weedwacker. yesterday i wrapped some wire around it. had to fix it before i could use it this morning. got that done and then went to the back hill to wack down the thyme before it goes to seed. that stuff is very prolific. it's really tough and hard to cut. so even though the wacker is hard on my arms it is still faster then other methods of cutting. but now it is done. i do love the flowers though. oh well can't have everything.

kept looking at the bed i was working on and it didn't feel right. it was the crib rail. the brown just wasn't working. so i sanded it and spray painted it blue. if it doesn't work there i have another place i can put it. i just didn't want to put anything into it because it will probably only last a couple of years. oh well again!!!

now i'm in the house for the day. i really have to get some cleaning done today!! darn computer!!!! a friend is coming over to work on the computer for me tomorrow or mon. if it's not the computer it's books keeping me busy. that stuffs a lot more fun than housecleaning. i do get more cleaning done than it sounds.

my hubby was home about a half hour ago and said it was 89 out. no it was 45 min. ago. i'd been in the house 20 min. because of the heat. now i'll go back out later and do more stuff. last night i finished watering, picked peas, cleaned the pond filter and there was something else. some of the work is repeated so much i can't keep track of it. or is it alz.?

keep cool!!! vicki

Gave up outside. Not because it hot but because hubby came home. We went grocery shopping then stopped at menards and I'm not getting a nes bed. Martagon lilies. Yellow red and pruple. Stop me, someone slap me across the face I don't need anymore plants! this year.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

cheri wait until next year. the heat will kill them this year. give you a plant to look forward to next year.

did that help!

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Yes Vicki that did help. Actually I've talked myself out of the martagons for this year. But reinforcement is always helpful Thank you.

DComputer took a vacation for a while today. Don't know what its problem was but its okay now.
It is hot today. 98 in the shade (thats where my thermometer is.) Watered, watered and watered. the back beds alittle while ago then came in to unmelt. Will do the front beds when its cooler later on this evening. Actually kindof wiped out so I'm gonna go take a rest on the couch and see whats on the old boob tube. Maybe I can get back later after hubby goes to sleep. He dislikes when he's home and I'm one the computer. Threatens to roundup one of my beds every time. Hasn't happend yet so befroe the threT Gotta go.................~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Cherie

morning cherie! no i haven't forgotten you. i've been out this morning it is so nice. humidity starting to pickup but still bearable. i'm taking a quick break and then it is up to my neighbors to water. at least i know what to expect this time. i'll take my own sprinkler.

more later. you beat me outside. how do you do it???????
vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I don't if I beat you out but I was out early. 5am to water cause the rain didn't visit us like it was supposed to. I should have watered yesterday but i was really hoping for the rain. Our water bill is going to be outrageous and hubby is going to have a fit.

It is beautiful out there this morning though. I was out watering until 7am and then went back out awhile and cu more bouquets. I have 37 vases and only 5 filled so I best get started. I like the the flowers in the vases but its so hard for me to get the courage to take them off the plant because they are so pretty. I'm a lost cause.
Well I really have to go find something to eat My tummy keeps talking louder and louder. BBL

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

i wasn't outside until you were going in. so far i have gotten done what i wanted. now let's see if the afternoon goes as good. **leave the book alone** now if i can just keep that up.

after all the deadheading and weeding why do we still get sore? or doesn't that happen to you?

i have to deadhead the back hill because i was watering it this morning. was't it nice out. maybe it won't get so humid this after. well i can hope!

what all are you up to today? me--just the normal stuff. DF never came over to do computer work. i know she hadn't been feeling good. hope it didn't get serious. my 3 best friends all have some kind of serious medical problem. 2 of them didn't when we met. am i some kind of jinx?

i've got to dig out my garden notebook today and check some stuff in it. i moved a few plants today. well dug them up. now i have to replant them. probably in that bed i'm working on.

if tomorrow moring is cool' i'll start reworking the one rock wall. i had to use to many small rocks and it's not holding up good. looks worse all the time. think i'll stretch it out a bit bigger.hehe!!! the DH will love that. not! oh well he bought a gun. will that work?

have a good day. cut those flowers fill those vases. vicki

Hi Vicki My little granddaughter is napping so I thought I'd take sometime out here.
A few months or so ago I had bought a garden magazine from the grocery store. In it was a queastionere so I filled it out and sent it in. Last month I got a letter saying I ws picked for a suprise gift to be sent directly from the supplier. I waited a week when nothing came I figured not a big loss because I didn't order anything and forgot about it. Today I was sitting on my front porch and a Fed Ex pulled in the frive. I figured looking for an address lo and behold it was my free gift. Pond Art a floating frog with pump fountain. Its the cutest thing and I don't have a pond. Haven't been able to talk Eddie into one yet. I so want to see it set up though. I had hped that when he got home from work he would figure something out. He's real good at problem-solving. But he said Cherie its just too big and it floats around the water would be spurting all over the place! So I put it back in the box and stuck it on a shelf in the garagr. No sense having it out to drool over if I can set it up. Pooh. For just a slight instant, just a slight one you inderstand I'd hoped he'd say okay you win we'll get a pond. Didn't work that way. Fantasy...............

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

life is full of fantasies!!!!! that's what keeps us going. it would be nice if they came true but wouldn't we be spoiled. i just put dawson out. he sure was sniffing something. just as long as it's not the bear or a skunk.

it sure is nice out. but i think it's going to be a slow morning.at least i don't have to water at the neighbors. we were there last night and fixed a railroad tie i had tipped and the one screen door on the balcony had to be put back on. i was telling DH how bad it was getting up there and when he saw it he just shook his head. i know they have had some tough times but shouldn't you keep up general maintenance? it's a gorgeous house going to pot.

how many vases did you get filled? just be brave take a deep breath and cut. i keep trying to imagine how many flowers you have. it has to be beautiful at your place and feel cool with your shade. it is so nice to sit outside in that shade. i just wish i had more than one spot.

since we are running out of room would you like to dmail. this was my 1st reply when i joined and i never expected to start a thread. didn't know what i was doing. some people would say that was normal.

i'm sure you are outside and ishould be also. sorry about the pond this year.
BBL vicki

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Nope, not outside anymore. Coffee drinking lots of coffee Yeah I would like to d-mail uh how does that happen? Haven't even looked into that. I filled 5 more this morning a total of 13. Looking around I really don't think I should fill all of them.
Guess what I did? I put my frog fountain together, filled the bathtub with water, plugged her in, voila! instant fountain. I thought hubby would die laughing at me. I know I'm pathetic. I too, of course, named the frogs right away, the smaller one is Hermie and the bigger one is cornelius. After Hermie wanting to be a dentist and Corny mined for silver and gold. Any way after I watched them for awhil I drained the tub, dried the frogs put it back in the box and back in the garage. Hubby said I'm not feeling sorry for you, You don't need a pond! I can't help I got a free gift? What can I say? Well think I'll go out and----------do something constructive. BBL
if you figure d mail let me know and we can just dmail each other okay? Cherie

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

My real name is Irish for Moon..my sister is Sunny! What does this tell you about my parents? ; )

I've used "Luna" on a few discussion boards. I added the "baby" part when I had her, (4 YEARS ago now) so people would know I would be slow to respond/pay attention. It's just stuck.
