Oh, you're sweet. Don't worry about keeping them separated. That tall one is gorgeous. I'd love to try them both. I have lots of bamboo poles. I can always make them a teepee for support. or...my son is 6' 2". I'll just get him to stand out there LOL

What's Growing, Part 3
McCool, I like your Nasties. And the related story.
It's fun to watch the same plant change from generation to generation. I have had the same Marigolds for 20 years, occasionally they will 'Echo' for me. Instead of red with yellow edges they are yellow with red edges, on the same plant. Fun.

My wife and I are Floridians just starting our garden in Southern Vermont (near Stratton Mountain). Any one-line advice you'd give to New England newbies? (I've gardened in the Ohio Valley, but my wife's a 5th Generation FL native who thinks that apples come in plastic bags.) Here's some advice for Snowbirds gardening in FL -- insecticides just move fire ants around from one place to another; introduce (harmless) bull ants to your yard (with a rotting log, etc. in some out of the way place) and the fire ants will disappear.
Andy - you threw me with the Nasties - LOL? I was going - whahhh? Nasties - what is he talking about? Had to read back to find out. I have several plants that came from old family gardens but my only generational changes from seed are with lychnis arkwrightii - which has reseeded itself as dark real red to bright orange and back again. I guess I did have a reverse surprise with Columbine Winky Red and White, which is a great little upfacing flower with a dumb name. First time I ever got a columbine to return true from seed.
And Hojofl - welcome back to the land of snoooooowwww. You took a big leap going to VT. Pass the Ohio Valley and go all the way to VT. Hope you ask lots of questions to remember all you have to do to enjoy the cold weather again. You came to the right place for gardening questions though. If you have some time this summer I'd join some garden walks and see what plants people are using and start from there. If you are so inclined, there are many people who grow their own by Wintersowing seeds outside. The Wintersowing Forum here or www.wintersown.org will tell you all you need to know. Or someone here will know the answer to questions about which plants are hardy and so on. Ants won't be your biggest issue here - LOL.
mc cool, I 've always liked the colors and flower shape of the nasturtium's. I don't have any now so I'm enjoying your picture of them!
bigcityal, Love the 'sparkler', Thats a pretty one!
A yankee cat, I have the pink holleyhock too, But it's not the same pink as yours, I also have the yellow, Black, And Red, But they are just starting to bloom now and are nowhere near the size that they normally are, I really think the weather and all the rain we had this year really had an effect on them.
Wow. I am really liking the purple ones- Flutterbye, and Hazel Sawyer. I've had my eye on Bela Lugosi for a while. Anybody have it? Like it? Post pics?
Wow! thanks Iris for the info and beautiful pics...
Iris, whatever your hummer likes is my favorite ;-), Seriously, you just have beautiful flowers spilling out of everywhere don't you? Keep the pics coming. I love it!. I'm at work, but I saw that the first bud on my 'Strawberry Candy' was open this morning, so I may have a pic later. i'm so excited! I had my eye on it for so long before I finally had a place to plant it. Ivy1, I'm liking the purples, too. My fairy garden is predominantly pink/purple and that's where 'Strawberry Candy' is. I think a purple is next. I liked 'Hazel Sawyer', too. That 'un-named' purple is a beauty, too, Iris.

Pretty, Andy. Looks like a Xmas wreath :-)
garndpapa, Thanks! :) I look forward to the pic of your Strawberry Candy, I have that one too ( I love it!) But mine hasn't opened yet. Strawberry Candy is going to look perfect in your pink/purple Fairy Garden garden!!
sk, Thanks! Your overturned bucket/ Dalhias, And birdbath looks Great for covering up the well head!!!! Very Nice!!
grandpapa, Thanks for posting it!! It's too bad that you got it after the sprinkler hit it, But it's pretty anyway, It's probably the picture, But it looks to be darker then my Strawberry Candy ( I posted a pic down bottom that I took last year)
I really like how you added the nmae/date in the post, Those shasta daisys sure are nice!! Thanks for posting both!!
Last years SC ..
Iris, Pretty gardens, beautful blooms.
I changed photo software to Photoshow and haven't figured out how to post them yet.(aargh!) I have lilies, daylilies and waterlilies, roses, hollyhocks, monarda, adenephora, & yarrow. Just imagine you can see them, OK?
Dave47, Thankyou!! ~Suggestion, When you take a photo on your computer and work on it at photo show, It should go back into your photo's folder on your computer when you are done, So try to take it from the photo folder on your computer to post at Daves . ( I'll imagine seeing them for now, but, I know you'll have it figured out soon and we will be seeing them posted ~ Can't wait!)
Correction: About the daylilly I posted as 'Mico' above, It's not Mico, It's Lunar Sea, Sorry about that, I read the tag wrong, But the worst part is, I kinda of knew what it was!
C'mon, Dave. We need to see those bloomin' beauties...you're getting behind. See what happens when you try to go high tech? (Ok, I'll stop teasing you, you're probably already frustrated enough. I actually get a paycheck for being a computer geek and I still get hung up on this stuff). When you get it we'll have a Dave's garden day so you can show us everything. Hang in there.

pixie, I thought that was a pretty good picture of Bela Lugosi, The one that I have is terrible, Yours looks a whole lot better!! It does seem to be kind of hard to get a really good picture of it for some reason.
Hi,
Glad people liked the nasturtiums ---- never heard them called "Nasties" before, but there's a certain justice to that. I've called them a lot worse than that towards the end of the season when they're literally tripping me up in the garden!
I was the lucky recipient of a daylily named Grape Velvet at our NE roundup last month. I figured I'd have to wait til next year to see a blossom, but it seems to be sending up a stalk. Hurray! I'll try to get a picture when it blooms.
Remember the old tune "Tiptoe through the Tulips"? There was a parody called "Stomping through the Nasties". At least that's how I remember it. I must be the only one old enough to remember that far back, LOL.
Andy P
mc cool, Can't wait to see the bloom you get on the Grape Velvet.
sk, I remember the 'tip-toe- through-the tulips, But not the stomping through the nasties LOL!
