Midwest Lilies Continued

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

This is the last one for today, it's name is supposed to be Asiatic Lily 'Red Carpet.'

Revclaus, regarding the collection from Wild's. It's a cheap way of acquiring bulbs, but don't expect them to all be true to name, and don't expect them to be really big. But, if you don't care about names and just want some color and can wait a year or so for them to bloom, then it's a good deal.

Thanks Ticker, I'm suddenly in love with Trinidad.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby, glad I could enable you. :)

Diann

hee hee (DH will cuss us both all the way to the bank.)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby, mine too! Oh well, at least they will be cussing at us over something that was worth being cussed at! :) You have several I'm drooling over, m'dear.

Methinks there could be some future swapping....

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I'd actually have to go out and dig some..... It could happen... One never knows.. I'm not very good with digging and dividing stuff, I'm still trying to get all the beds weeded once before I start re-arranging stuff. ;)

I really like Jetfire's bright colors. Luminaries opened today. It looks better than last year, but I'm not crazy about it.

Maxine - try to get a closer shot of the bloom.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Gorgeous color, Maxine.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Maxine, what a beautiful lily. Very rich color.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow, that's a neat lily. I thought Martagons were a smaller bloom, it's good to know that they aren't all little guys. :)

Tropical Isle is just starting to open today.

Luminaries is showing more of the center pattern that it did for me last year. Only problem is you have to stand on your head to see it.

This one I've had for a long time. I think it is Tiger Baby.

Desert song has really bloomed for a long time this year. It fades to a soft melon orange color.

Ticker, could your "something (red)" be Red Artiste? Here's the PF listing of it: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/104373/index.html

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow, mgh, could you come to my house and identify things for me? If mine wasn't named Red Artiste, it should have been. That's what it's going to be called now.

Thanks!

LOL, Ticker! That was just a guess. I remember that one well because it was a bonus many of us got in a co-op with The Lily Garden in 2004, and when mine bloomed there wasn't a listing for it in the PF yet and I could only find one or 2 pics of it when I did a Google search for it. Yours sure looks just like it!

I think there are others in this forum who would be a much better choice for identifying things for you! ;o)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

It was an excellent guess. It's probably what it came named as, but I'm beginning to think that unless (as per usual) you get your lilies from a source that does only lilies you can't be sure that they are true to name, or that they haven't just renamed them to make them sound "new and fancier!" I'm really picky about having correct things for my hostas and I'm getting pickier about it for my daylilies. I thought I was picky about my peony, but it seems that a source I really rather trusted gave me some that weren't true to name. So now, I'll add lilies to the mix. ;) Seems to me like there is more misnamed Asiatic's than orientals, tho?? Who knows..

But mgh, you can still come identify things in my gardens for me. Heck, all of you come, I've got lots of stuff that needs identifying!! :)

This one came in a mixed bag of brushmark ones. Not very large or tall.

Isn't it pretty! :) My Jetfire is like that in that it's a front of the border type of lily. They are kind of nice to have. :)

Check this out, Susan.

Moby, I figured out who my "something" (red) was supposed to be. It was supposed to be Soiree. It doesn't look like Soiree, tho. It must be Red Artiste. :) At least, it didn't make any difference that I lost the tag, since it wasn't named correctly. :)

Diann

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oh good! Now I'll know what to look for since I managed to plant mine and not put the tag in with it.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I was wondering if they might be Cathedral Windows Moby, but did not think thet had as much of a brush mark as the photo in the Lily garden catalog. But they sure look like yours.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Yippee! Rosepoint Lace has a bunch open - and they're finally taller, Moby. And the 'cow' is no longer in the way... :( .......But the lilies are beautiful!

And here is Kiss Me Kate.... it looks more red that this shows

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh Kooger, they are beautiful. That Rosepoint Lace is catching my attention more and more.... Kiss Me Kate I might have, but if not I'll have to get it, if for no other reason than one of my most favored grand-nieces is named Kate. ;)

Diann, Your lilies are waaay ahead of mine. My lilies are just starting to open here in CR.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Love Rosepoint. No cow?? Aww....that makes me sad. :..(

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

cow????

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

A couple of years ago when Kooger first posted Rosepoint Lace, in the background was Barney, her Cocker. I asked if it was a cow.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

LOL!!

You know the difference between a cow and dog now though, right? LOL I only ask because in March we were driving to the coast and we passed a field with some animals in it and my DH said, "Those are some funny looking sheep." I replied, "That's because they're goats!" :oD

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Vaguely...? Barney was waaay in the background. Yes, goats ARE funny looking sheep. lol

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

;o) I think I remember that pic.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

This is a close up, but please remember that the heat and dryness has affected my lilies.
