Regardless of what climate you live in....
Would you rather it be hot, or cold out? In other words, do you think it's easier to warm-up or cool-off inside?
Me? I'd rather it be cold outside. I figure, if it's cold, I can always add a layer of clothing. If it's hot, I can only take so much off, then I start offending the neighborhood. :)
Rather be hot or cold
Yep ..
I can tolerate TOO cold, over TOO hot .. literally, on ANY day of the year: summer or winter!
Hmmm ..
We've no close neighbors, so, no problem there - but, jes the same; we'd really like to keep the wildlife that we're blessed with ..

I'm a person who would rather be in a cold climate. Hot is nice, for a season, but not year-round. And only if it's not too humid. And only if I have access to AC. And only if there's a swimming pool or beach. And only if I can be lazy. And not at night when I'm trying to fall asleep.
Otherwise, hot is nice.
Like I said, I'm a cold-climate kinda gal!
Hmmm...that's a tough choice. I think I will have to say hot though because around here if it's cold outside, it's usually raining. I will take sun over rain most any day! Besides, we have central AC in our house so I can always come in and cool off. :o)
Too cold. I overheat much too quickly (is this ever going to end - I'm 60 years old now !) I keep my airconditioning around 70*. I tell my family if they are cold, put on more clothes. The alternative is for me to take more clothes off - not a pretty sight.
Angel,
Awesome question for days like this!
More people would agree with you than I but I've always preferred it to be hot than cold. I've found on cold nights it was harder to get warm and stay asleep (even with an electric blanket) than on hot nights when I can have the AC on (always 78 here), ceiling fan going and kick off the bed covers.
If it's hot outside I can hurry and go from my house to the car and there is AC. I can go from the car to the store (AC) or work (AC) back to home (AC). If it is cold I think of snow and ice...and shoveling your car. It always took my car longer to heat up in the winters than it did to cool down for the summers.
My DH worked in the snow building a power plant in Colorado and the guys would drink hot drinks from a thermos, wear long johns, wear thick socks, boots, multiple shirts, gloves, coats, hats, etc. My poor DH would come home every night and say it took him hours to warm back up...his hands would still be red from working outside in the cold that day.
Definitely rather have it cold. Only have a small AC unit in my bedroom window, so most of the summer everyone lives in my bedroom, dogs, cats, kids. We don't have the venting for central air, unfortunately, and I find it harder and harder to handle the heat.
In the winter the thermostat for the furnace is never set above 55º. We wear sweats, have feather beds and down comforters. It's really not as bad as it sounds, either, as I tell the kids every year, you get used to it!! And you do, really!!

Neat variety of answers so far!
What I always find entertaining is the complaints follow the seasons. When it's 99F outside & humid, everyone whines, "It's too HOT! I can't wait until it cools down outside!" Then, when it's 40F & raining, everyone complains, "It's too COLD! When will summer get here?"
:) LOL 40F here in south TX is considered "cold", but for me, it's not. I'm always outside, riding my horse, wondering if the 20s will ever come. :) Grew up near Pittsburgh, PA, so unless it's in the "teens", I'm wondering where winter is. That's not to say it doesn't get "cold" here. I remember last year, trying to ride my horse in a lesson. It was about 40F outside, humid, windy, and freezing! I was hiding under my western saddle, riding pants, a sweatshirt, gloves, and a long oversized (three times too big for me) carhartt coat. Shivered the entire time. Poor horse had steam rising off his back when I quit. Quickly unsaddled & replaced the pads with a mid-weight horsie blanket, before he started to shiver, too. So it ain't "Yankee-cold" here, but it does get mighty cold in Jan & Feb.
When you think about it, it doesn't matter where you live or how hot and cold it gets. In summer when it's too hot, we tend to run home or to work to get to the air conditioning and stay there. In winter when it's cold we run home or wherever to a warm furnace to warm up and stay there. Kinda like from runiing from one box to another whether its hot or cold. That's life I guess.
Don
I like it hot myself. For me it is easier to cool off than it is for me to warm up. I hate wearing the many layers of clothes I need to stay comfortable in cold climates.
Angel,
You are so funny....awesome observations!!! Loved it: "Yankee-cold" that's PERFECT! I was a Yankee so will use that now to combat the winter complaints of cold down south. Ha. We always want what we don't have don't we.
Hot - both for growing plants and for wearing shorts, T-shirt, and flip-flops. Would prefer constant 72 degrees if we had our wishes met.
Hmm. Well, based on my experiences with weather, I'll have
to take HOT. You can take off clothing, wear a damp towel around your
neck, take a shower, turn up the a.c. and such. But cold? Oh my gosh!
I don't even want to move when it's cold!
When we were kids, Pop had a temper regarding the bills, so
of course Ma would try to keep the bills down. This meant freezing.
I remember my bones aching all day during school because I'd been
curled up in a fetal position with my head under the covers trying to
generate heat all night.
If I had the right clothing and a fabulous fireplace, I wouldn't mind living
in the cold. We do have a woodburning stove which keeps us toasty, but
during that weather I don't want to go outside at all.
I can go all day long without a.c, even in the summer, but hubby is a
guy who needs more chill. Oddly enough, I generate the heat in the wintertime,
so guess who has his big butt snuggled up to me?
LOL, Wuvie!
I was the same way as a kid...except I don't remember my bones aching at school. My bedroom was downstairs and we had a forced-air furnace.....well...heat rises. I even had a golden pothos in my bedroom that I had to take upstairs because it was dying from being too cold. One morning I went upstairs in my outfit I had been wearing to bed........2 long sleeved shirts, sweat pants, 2 pairs of socks and leg warmers. She was surprised! She really didn't realize how cold it was in my room......she always wondered where all the blankets went though.
Wuvie,
ROFL and slapping my knee!!! You are so fun! I've always thought the same about heat...you can always chill yourself but if you are cold there are only so many things you can wear....most everyone else says the opposite! A little AC and a swim or shower is always plenty to keep you cool for a long time. It takes much longer to get warm.
Our house growing up in Yankee ville was always too cold for my liking. I had to have an extra space heater in my room and I'd sit directly in front of it full blast and at night I had an electric blanket. I'd sometimes sneak a turn on the thermostat and LOL it was always so funny when Dad would say, "Who turned up the heat?!?!?!" and we'd all shrug our shoulders. It'd get me warm about an hour or so though...haha!
I get more cold weather than hot during a year's time so I am wishing for more heat a whole lot more than I am wishing for cold.
I'll vote for hot--I'm kinda used to year round gardening....sorta like some guys like year round golf. Its easy to stay warm on cold winter nights--need I elaborate?
;)
Debbie
LOL!
LOL Debbie,
Around here, it's extra covers, big fat fuzzy jammies with feet, hot chocolate and more
wood in the stove.
;-)
Definitely hot. I can cool off in AC or the pool, in winter, I can only put on so much clothing and be able to move. Wish for a climate of about 72 year round. Where is that?
LOL defoecat...good question!
It's Hawaii, but I would not trade it for Texas.
I heard Bermuda is great but you can't move there - just visit.
I'd rather be cold than hot. I have lots of built- in natural insulation that keeps me toasty in winter and causes me to roast in the Summer!
My ideal clime would be 75-85 degrees year round- BUT with 4 distinct seasons. No humidity at all and no really bad t-storms, but lots of rain.
Guess I can dream.
I'd rather be cold...only so much I can take off. I've lived in cold and hot and this hot (SE TX) is terrible. Have days when even the dog doesn't want to go outsides it's so hot and humid.
Saint
Can't begin to tell how much I hate hot weather!
I don't get so much hot weather. It's 90° right now. However, I spend much of the year wanting it to warm up. Cold is so deadlike.
Anyway I remember going to the barn to milk cows when it was say 0° and then the time the power went off on Christmas night when it was -10°. Uh, don't like that stuff.
Hmm, it's difficult for me to decide. I tend to be really annoyed by heat more often than cold but I think that has more to do with my climate than with my preference. Overall I think I'll say I'd rather be hot; when I'm hot the air doesn't burn my lungs or sting my face and I can often get a sprinkler watering near where I'm working, move to more shade. or just concentrate harder on what I'm doing and ignore it somewhat. Then when I'm done I can always go in and take a cold shower.
-Paul-
heat might be uncomfortable sometimes, but cold hurts......
Ah, when it is hot, watermelon sounds good....certainly doesn't when weather is cold.
In the past I would have chosen cold. But now I seem to take the heat a little better and I do love to be outside in the summer time. I so enjoy gardening and I always dread for the weather to start getting real cold. Of course here in Tx. it can be freezing one day and very warm the next. So at least the cold doesn't last too long.
The cold lasts here November til March...cool, cold, and coldest....ugh.
The upside is relief from flies, skeeters, bugs, ants, lawn mowing, weeding.......
Hot Hot Hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!It's 62 degrees outside and I'm freezing in my sweatsuit! I'm from Tx orginaaly. Been here in WI since May 1966. I can't handle the cold and it gets worse the older I get. I hate snow and ice and shoveling and cold.
Come on back! =)
Would love to, hubby likes it here and since we've only been married 5 months, maybe when he retires in about 10 years.
Hot hot hot hot hot!
I hate doing laundry and remembering which layer to put on/take off first.
Hot makes me drink lots of water, which is good.
Sweat running off my nose when I'm working, makes me think I'm working harder...lol Though I was surprised when sweat POURED out of the latex gloves I was wearing while painting the house last week.
Plus, if it's hot, and I wear fewer clothes, I'm more aware of how fat or thin I happen to be. When it's cold, I've got so many clothes on (in WI I wore a dress under a corduroy dress and snowboard socks everyday!), I double in size.
As for the neighbors, if they can see me, they are trying really hard and obviously have no life! lol
I've been cold my whole life. (When I was 110#) I can stand in a warm shower, think about shaving my legs and I get goosebumps. (Guess we know who's hairy all winter!)
When I gained weight, after I quit smoking, I got hot in an instant.
I think I'd rather be cold. You can put on clothes, but sometimes you cant take off enough!
Wow! I love this warm weather.....
