why are you allowing this e-mail?

Yes, I gave Ursula permission to do this and I think her generosity now and over the years has been staggering!

I didn't get the email but I can say from the bottom of my heart, that if Ursula has a hand in something, it is something caring and meaningful and definately from her heart. :)

Ursula is definatly someone with a big heart. I didnt get the dmail either but now I cant wait to see what happens, if we are allowed that is, LOL.

A member here is getting a very nice gift from Ursula, who is making financial sacrifices of her own to raise the funds for it.

So, let's clam up and let Ursula continue what she's doing. :)

Thanks Dave....I tried to get Ursula to let me just send some money instead of asking for seeds....she refused because she told Dave she would send seeds...she also said she would send MY share of the seeds to someone else in my name...which I am opting for as I know someone that would make better use of them than me!!! Jo

Right, definitely no need to apologize. :) I hope I didn't come across as being terse in my answer. You should always report or double-check any suspicious Dmails you might receive.

I think it is a wonderful idea - but doesn't adhere to item #7 of the "Acceptable Use Policy" which is what I referred to after seeing the e-mail. I am excited to get some new seeds now that I know it is "Ok"!

It IS a lovely idea. As I told Ursula...a Win-Win situation. Nice to know there are people like her in the World. Wish there were more.

You gotta admit,
It sure did come off as a con artist type of solicitation.

Consider those who have little history here at Daves and are newer members.
We don't know who Ursula is, her history or anything.

All we get is a long winded multi paragraphed email that starts out with the oh so familiar battle cry of woah is me... here is my tale of despair....... .... ...

You can't blame the public for being protective of their well meaning generosity or cynicism at this point in our history after learning how organizations such as The Red Cross squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars in relief money meant for survivors of 9/11 or the theft that took place of donated funds for Katrina victims or many of the other rip off scams head lining the news in recent years.

It's nice to hear that this was a well intentioned solicitation but a you must admit , it was quite unusual and made for one quick stoke of the delete button.

Just two comments on your above message:

Sorry if I gave you the (wrong)impression I feel pity for myself. I just thought that I had to state FACTS, why I was not able to just take money out of my pocket to pay forward.

2. You have been at DG for almost 6 months and you seem not to be familiar with all the features. For your information: the 'delete' button does not work when it comes to dmail.

Also, you probably did not take the time to read the paragraph where I state that I do not take money donations (in which case I agree I would have been tempted to think it's a scam as well). The seeds I collected in many trips to the high Andes and other field trips, are all first quality and very reasonably priced. In addition, any professional/knowledgeable gardener would tell you they are much sought after seeds.

Another feature DG provides is a page for each member. All you have to do is to clik on my name and you will be able to see for how long I have been at Dave's Garden, and if you click on 'feedback', you can see what other members have to say about me.

And yes, I think life is wonderful, I think Dave's Garden rocks and I am having a great time working on my project.

Ursula's project is just one example of the way DG members pull together to help each other; I never thought anything but that when I read the D-mail. You rock, too, Ursula! :)

I would like to help but I really have nowhere for seeds... I have so many now! could we do anything else... beside buy seeds... maybe send the $$ and donate the seeds for somthing?

I have a very small yard and I do not have one more place to put things... I have used up most of my fences, and half my yard... around the house.. back of the yard...

Noell_swfl, you sound like me! I couldn't handle another plant around here right now either! What I did was choose a special person and Ursula sent the seeds I chose directly to her. It was a great gift/surprise for my friend to receive!

Ursula, thanks for your great idea and your efforts! The recipient of your seeds (and myself) are elated! What a wonderful project you are doing. All those involved will benefit!

Ursula KNEW that I wouldn't be a canidate for seeds...but I have a neice that is getting them...it will be a plesant surprise to her and a reward for her taking such good care of her Mother (my oldest Sister!).
