HELP!! Hard water salts on cooking pans

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Here is a good question for the women that cook all the time.
What is best to use to get the salts out of cooking pots, They turn the pots white & crusty & if I use a SOS pads it scraches all of the coating off, I heard you can use vinegar.

If vinegar works do I use the white or apple cider vinegar or is there something else I can buy, I don't want to throw away the pot away. Does anyone have any ideas??.

Hi Jerry,

Sounds like you have hard water in your area. Many people do
not realize that hard water makes a drastic difference in their
hair.

Here is an interesting bit of reading about hard water:

A tip on hard water deposits on your dishes, though I don't
use our dishwasher nor have I ever tried this:

If your dishwasher or dishes become stained from hard water, just run a package of Tang orange juice crystals through the dishwasher with the stained dishes in it.

Hard water, exactly what is it?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Karen.. I looked at 2 links & they both said to use vinegar but distiled or white vinegar, I need to use this at 50/50 Water & vinegar & a little lemon juice & boil it for 1 hour.

When we use to boil water for bottles we would end up with this problem and we would use lemon juice and water. If that didn't work we would boil the solution. How much you use depends on the hight of stain.Start out with little and keep adding.

You can also buy products at Wal-Mart to clean coffee pots, this works for me with pans that have the hard water spots.

Vinegar works great, Jerry.
