Asiatic and Oriental Lilies

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Shopping for fall bulbs will begin soon. Read the note at the top of the page for a B&D catalog. http://www.snowcreekdaylilies.com/lily-bulbs-2006.html

Blooms, that isn't a Tiger in the truest sense. Many lilies have spots and others can be very reflexed. Whatever you have, it is quite pretty.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

it starts quite pink but fades into an almost white with pink edges.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

mgh - I don't understand your comment about the net. Is someone stealing your blooms?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

mgh needs a pit bull...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, that's a great idea, pardalinum! LOL We do have a golden lab, but I guess her hearing is about at good as mine. I was up last night when it happened.

Beaker, we have some not so nice neighbors who think that my flowerbeds our their personal picking grounds. I had 2 really nice stems each of Black Jack and Avonlea yesterday and today all I have left is one stem of Avonlea. At least they left me that, right? LOL This same thing happened last year......you'd think I would have learned my lesson, huh? Last fall I just completely forgot about moving the lilies to the bed closer to the house though. The lilies will be moved this fall whether we sell our place or not! ;o) For now, I bought a net and I will put some stakes in the ground and put the net over the stakes and tack the net into the ground at the base of the lilies. I hope this works. At least it will take them longer to pick them if they have to remove (or worse yet, cut the net) and maybe they will get caught. A girl can dream can't she? LOL

Ok, enough of lily saga! On with more beauties!!

My neighbor told me that she shooed some kids away from my garden one day. This was when the tulips were blooming. She heard them talking about picking some flowers.

I know how you feel. I woke up one morning a few years ago when my yellow Iris were blooming and they didn't leave one. They were all gone. I couldn't believe it.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Same thing happened to my Now and Later iris this year.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

This spring someone enjoyed making bouquets out of my hyacinth and tulip plantings out front. Cut cleanly off with a knife. At least they left all of the foliage...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Unbelievable! That someone would go into your garden and pick your flowers.

I have a good flower thief here. My Grandson Jamie, age 7 loves to go in and pick bouquets for his Mommy.

Cute! At least Mommy can enjoy the flowers.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

He even looks a little naughty! Just the way I like 'em. :)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Cute kid there, pollyk! Someone's good with photoshop too, huh?! LOL

It's easy to get to the flowers they take from my yard because they are in a bed right next to the sidewalk.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

But still--one thing to walk in and admire, but to take someones flowers, unbelievable.

Thanks on the comments on my Grandson Jamie. Actually he is the easiest going child ever, wonderful to his little sister, and to our cats, which I think says a lot, and he's a blue belt in Karate, and a straight A student. Geez can you tell I'm proud!

Now back to Lilies.

Polly

I agree with you Polly.

Well, here are my caged lilies. I hope this at least slows the thieves down a bit.

Not to be extreme or anything, but how about a string or two of electric fence..?.. stuff just bites, doesn't damage... we used to test each other on the fence around the goat pen next door. just a cranky old lady ~~ Blooms

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

LOL, Blooms! We've thought of that.....DH would love to put it up! I think it might be dangerous to the kids in the neighborhood though.......I'm sure we'd get sued somehow. DH is looking into some motion sensitive surveillance equipment to record the goings on at night. I think it will be very interesting to see what actually happens in our neighborhood while we are sleeping. ;o)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

hee hee, Blooms! I suggested razor wire......

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

no, no, Moby.... razor wire is dangerous.... a l'il ole electric fence just stings your dignity

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Hook up a motion sensor sprinkler! Or do like that guy did in the commercial. Hook up a switch inside and watch for them to get close and then soakem!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I'd love to do that! Unfortunately, they usually come at night while I'm asleep.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Then you need something to let you know they are there. Maybe you could disguise a baby monitor so it would awaken you.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Scoolie, I like the way you think. LOL

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

That's another great idea too! Ok, I gotta shoot it down too though. LOL We live near a switching yard for a railroad station. I think it would sound like a thunderstorm in my bedroom! LOL I've thought about tying some bells to the netting....that would at least make my dog bark and then I would definitely wake up. :o)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

That would work also. Maybe hook up a flash from a camera so they would think they were gettin their pic taken....makem think twice.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Then soakem!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Muwaahaahaaaahaaa........

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I like the way you think too, scoolie! Very devious indeed. LOL Want to come do the honors for me?? LOL

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Muwaahaahaaaahaaa..............my DH and I set up our webcam to record the goings on in front of our house last night. It is motion sensitive so we won't be recording all night. We need to get a better one that has night vision on it though because it would be hard to identify someone from the video we got. But at least we have something for now! ;o)

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

they were back? what on earth... it's not like they can SELL a bouquet
yay on the video

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, they have only come twice this year. Once for iris and once for lilies. They haven't touched them since I put up the net though. My DH was excited to use the webcam though. Last night he tried the camcorder and it works better and still records to the computer, so we will use that from now on. :o)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Add a couple of those VooDoo lilies and see if they like them when they bloom!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Yucko!! That would too close to the front of my house!! LOL

Haydenville, MA(Zone 5a)

Man, sorry to hear the trouble with flower thieves....at my house they have to climb up a very steep driveway...200ft or so to even get close to those beds...come to think of it, it works pretty well for the solicitors...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

yeah, that would deter quite a few, I bet! LOL
