SpaceBabies

I took a few pictures of my SpaceBabies. I'm going to repot them soon and I like to have before and after pictures to compare.

This is EverBeautiful. I took off all the bloom stalks before we left before vacation, as most of them were fading. She's sending up many new bloom stalks and this is the first flower to open.

She is beautiful Amy. Nice rich colorful blossom !

This is EverPraise in desperate need of repotting and grooming. I've knocked all these over more than once. They're so big that I bump them and mess up the leaves. Makes me so mad!!

Close up of EverPraise blooms.

And my favorite of all...EverGrace.

Each one of the blooms is different. One is almost solid white while others are almost solid purple and there's every variation in between.

This is my favorite of the blooms on it now.

Stunning ! Love the green on EverPraise's blossoms !

WOW Love your EverGrace Spectacular. I love your favorite blossom too !

Red Oak, NC(Zone 7b)

They are all very pretty! I really love the dark green of the leaves.

Thank you Allison! EverBeautiful does have the richest color of the four SpaceBabies I have. I also have EverYoung, but when I repotted it, I took off all the bloom stalks because I broke most of them trying to get that blasted soil muck off the roots. It will bloom again soon I'm sure. These are usually just full of blooms for me. I wish I could get my other AVs to bloom like these do. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Thank you, achoo! EverBeautiful has red on the underside of the leaves. Very beautiful in contrast to the dark green leaves and brilliant blooms. It's a gorgeous plant! I really want to get the rest of the SpaceBabies. I had said I wouldn't because they're so large, but I'll MAKE room for them! LOL

I'll take your saying my plant is spectacular as a huge compliment, Allison! LOL You're the master of AVs so you should know! ;o)

Here's EverYoung. I took it down to a 4 inch pot from the 6 inch it was in. I lost a lot of the roots trying to clean the store-soil off and accidentally broke off many more leaves than I would have actually chosen to remove. I hope that was the right thing to do...

That terra cotta pot was painted by my precious daughter! I think it's beautiful!

Beautiful painting on your pot ! Your daughter sure is talented like her Mom !
I would have taken off all the old yucky soil and put EverYoung into a 4 inch pot also. Looks great ! Her foliage either close to light or better yet in natural light will settle down and you will have new growth and blossoms soon !
I always take off all the soil of these Nursery , HD, Lowes , Selective Gardners, Bluebirds...on and on and most time go down a size or two in pots..even if same size pot they all get a new bleaches pot, wick and soil !
Well done sure is beautiful !
Thanks for sharing them I really enjoyed !

Amy do you have EverJoy, EverLove, EverRejoice ?
I think these are the three you don't have I have extras. I have EverSpecial but not sure how many and I am going to send a set of all the Space babies I have to Janis.

No, Allison, I don't have those. EverBeautiful, EverYoung, EverGrace, and EverPraise are the only ones I have. I've been back to Lowe's a few times, but they looked awful, so I didn't buy anymore. Thrips everywhere the last few times I've been to Lowe's and Home Depot, too. All of HD's large indoor foliage plants were COVERED with scale. I got outta there as soon as I could. LOL
I'd love to have your extras of your Space Babies! Thank you , Allison! You're just too sweet!

What a beautiful pot!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning Amy,

Lovely flowers on them all! The Ever....series are quite lovely! What is your favorite blooms called? It is also very pretty! It never seizes to amaze me the beauty in the flowers! They are stunning!

The terra cotta pot is very well done by your daughter! How old is she?

TFS!

Joanne

Oh those are so pretty! Amy are those the plants you posted pictures of several months ago, that you bought at Lowe's? Wow you did a great job w/ them!

Thank you for the compliments on the pot! I'll pass them along to my daughter. She just turned 13. Painting is her favorite hobby, but she much prefers abstract to still life. She loves sweeping swaths of color and blending colors. I asked her to please paint flowers on this one pot and she could do the rest any way she wanted. That made her happy enough. :o) I'm trying to get her to do another one for me. She walked in here the other day and asked me if I had a bowl or chair I didn't want so she could paint it! LOL A chair?? I'm working up my courage to try painting a pot, but I have no artistic skill with paint whatsoever. I can cross-stitch a master piece, but my painting leaves something to be desired (beauty! Ha!). My husband is super talented at drawing, though he denies it. He's amazing!

orkidlady, my favorite bloom is on EverGrace. Each bloom has a different pattern of colors on it. They're all beautiful, but that one catches my eye everytime I look at the plant.

Thank you, April. These are the ones I got at Lowe's. They haven't stopped blooming since I brought them home. I've been waiting for them to stop blooming before I repot, but that's evidently not going to happen, so I'll do it as soon as I can. I should have leaves and babies from them all if anyone wants some.

EverGrace is stunning! Wow!!

You've got a talented daughter! Furniture can be fun to do with abstract or geometric designs.... you can find inexpensive chairs & side tables at thrift shops, auctions, yard sales, etc. Look for one with a shape you like that's reasonably sturdy, don't worry about the finish or the color. It's not a bad idea to start by giving it a good scrub with Murphy's Oil Soap, then sanding as necessary before applying a base coat of paint. If you don't want to sand down the finish but the surface is in bad shape, consider a coat of really good primer (I like Kilz brand) to seal the surface and give a fresh start. I've got a couple of small chairs in the basement I've been planning to paint black and then do a little decorative painting on (maybe in gold).

The nice thing about painting pots is that if you are not happy you can repaint easily! Don't be afraid, go for it. I have done some furniture as well- I found that we are most critical of ourselves, a lot more critical than others are.

Amy I will put a side each one of spacebabies i have you don't for you !

Thank you so much, Allison!

Jill and April, she's got a two-drawer chest in her room that is white with a huge pink bow on it. It was perfect for her when we got it...she was 5. She's outgrown pink bows, though. (wants her room painted lime green with hot pink trim...I'm thinking NOT) I am going to have her paint that one day soon. It's big enough that she can do whatever she wants to, but not so big as to be frustrating.
I hope the store is sold out of weird colors the day we go to buy paint...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Show us lot's of pictures please Amy :))

Oh I will. She won't be painting it right away, but soon, I hope. We've got a wedding to attend tomorrow, a birthday party Sunday, and my husband plans to put hardwood floor in our son's room next week, so our days should be pretty full for a week or so. :o) Maybe we can squeeze in a flower pot or two in the mean time.
I took a good look at EverPraise yesterday, and it is two fully grown plants together in that one pot. Only one is blooming, though. Maybe if I separate them and repot the other will start blooming, too. I'm going to try to do that today...

Silver Spring, MD

I Totally agree with Jill. You do have a talented daughter. Super pot and the plants are beautiful. I love the EverSeries. I had EverSpecial but lost her over the winter. The leaves I had down didn't take. Your EverGrace is very pretty. I love the blooms! I think you are right about seperating the plants that are together is the same pot. Good luck with your operation!

Thank you for the compliments on my daughter and her flower pot. :o)
I just potted up a baby EverPraise (I think that was it, I get all these confused and have to keep looking back to see which Ever it was! LOL). All my Ever... leaves seem to have taken and several have babies, and I may have some suckers potted up, too. I forget, there are so many little white cups everywhere they all blend together!
I'll be happy to share some of them with you if you'd like, nanna. I don't have EverSpecial, but you're welcome to any of the others. :o)

Lilburn, GA

Sorry to kidnap the thread but the space baby leaves that Allison sent me have babies.

Beautiful plants and lovely cute pot, Rain!

I will certainly be looking forward to a trade. And I would love any of the Everwhatevers you have.

Cleveland, OH

I have heard a lot about the bayer soil with insecticide and fertilizer one question how will you know when the fertilizer is used up- will it depend on the watering, the ratio is very low I want to try it just trying to get Allison's opinion do you have blooming plants potted in the mix, this could be just what I need I value your opinion. morganberg

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Blooming plants potted in it oh my yes. Now it says bug stuff works up to 4 months , food up to 9 months. Knowing your plants I can tell when they need food.
BUT I trans-plant my plants every 4-6 months depending on time and miniatures/sem,is more often than standards. Or when babies grow real fast. I put them in 2 inch pots, then 2.25 or 2.5- which miniatures and Semi-miniatures never go larger. Then standards go to 3 inch, 4 and 5 or 6 if needed. I don't have any in larger than 5 inch azeal pots which are large much larger than a 4 inch pot.
If my plants are growing healthy, foliage happy and healthy, blooming well according to light it gets. ( window plants are not going to give as many flowers)
Low light will give you a few flowers, medium several and high light great big hugh bouquets ! In one of my AV books shows this with pictures. It's so true. Light is most important for flowering. So when my plants flower good in natural light I am thrilled !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Amy I can send with your Gessie's Space Babies you don't have also !

Yay! I love the SpaceBabies! Leaves are down of each one I have and babies are coming up! :o)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Did you get you Dmail of Gessie's I have to offer ?
Space Babies I have that you don't EverLove, EverRejoice, EverJoy, EverSpecial if you like also ! Check your Dmail please and let me know which ones you would like !

I'm answering your dmail now. LOL I had come looking for this thread to send you a list of the SpaceBabies I have, but I see that you've already figured that out. :o) Look for a dmail from me in just a couple minutes. :o)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks sorry to be a pest just so happy I have some for you !

You couldn't be a pest if you tried!
I would have answered you yesterday, but we worked all day at my parents' house. My husband poured a concrete parking area for them beside their driveway and I was his helper. :o) Wow, was that a job! We didn't get home til almost 10 last night and were both completely exhausted. I didn't have the energy to check DG last night so it had to wait til this morning.
I replied to your dmail, so you should have it now. :o)

Edison, NJ(Zone 7a)

I only have two of the space babies so far - EverGrace and EverPraise. I absolutely fell in love with EverGrace, and it was one of the first AVs I bought. I just recently got EverPraise. They're both young plants, but healthy and growing well. I can't wait until they bloom. If they're anything like the pictures you posted of yours, RainGazer, they're going to be gorgeous!
