Coffee and......Saturday, May 27

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning,

Sleep in a little then have a leisurely cup of coffee and chat for a bit..........Don't be a stranger.

We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/607347/

Wow, it's Saturday already? Busy day here, still don't have the strawberries planted, still have to finish tomato beds, arrrggghh, but the tractor's upright and repaired.

Went' garage saling for a bit yesterday and got a gorgeous antique claw foot tub with the original faucets still on, perfect enamel,and the guys' going to deliver it to the farmhouse (garage) for $150. I'm psyched.

Okay, gotta run, hope to check in later.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Okay, where is everyone? I have been up since 6:15, and ready to head out the door for some errands. Going to yard sales, I need a bumper sticker that says, this vehicle stops at all yard sales!!

Later everyone.

dmc, Oh what a wonderful find!! When we got married both of our first apartments were in old homes and had those nice big old tubs. One of them was so long when I laid back, I could actualy lay completely down. If was huge!

Bonnie wait ... I want to go with you. LOL

Well, I've got a hair appointment this morning. Told the DH to set the clock last night, so he *did* alright. He set it for his usual getting up work time. grrrrr That blasted thing went off at 6 a.m. I was *not* a happy camper. :-(

I am goin to come back later and try to catch up with everyone. I had a lot of comments I wanted to make as I've not posted much the past couple of days.

Maria, I did want to tell you and all the others here who had or have loved ones in the armed services "thank you". Although I read a fair amount, I must admit I have been untouched by war in a personal way. I have a best friend who's son is in Iraq but I've been so blessed.

Here's hoping everyone has a blessed holiday week-end.

Good morning folks,

Slept well and didn't cough. Seems the Scotch did its thing. Looks overcast here but not raining. Hope to spend some time in the garden before lunch.

Last year our church had an interning student minister who is to be ordained this evening in Montreal. A whole bus load of us are going down for the ordination. Leave the church at 3 and return about 11. Takes about 2 hours to get from one city to the other. Want to allow enough time at the church to set up handbell tables for tomorrow. If I'm lucky, the janitor has set them up for me, but I'll lhave to get the foam pads and table covers out. Three of us are playing a handbell trio tomorrow morning since I didn't have enough of the regular group in town to be able to play even two octaves of bells in the normal fashion. (BTW, the three of us are covering 3 octaves. LOL) We last practiced on Tuesday morning; so I want the tables ready to go tomorrow - all we'll have to do is get out the bells.

dmc - sounds like you got a great tub. For garage sale afficiandos, today is the day of the "Great Glebe Garage Sale". Glebe is an older neighbourhood in Ottawa - rather tony to live there and modest houses are now quite expensive. Anyway, this sale has been going on for awhile and has now apparently become a tourist attraction. Young girl who lives across the street has both of her sisters here from Toronto to visit the GGGS.

Well, on with the day. Have a good one.

Hi Elaine,

guess we were typing at the same time.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Good Morning, GOBs :)

Casey, go to the Garden Terms tab at the top of the page, type alfalfa tea in the search box. It doesn't keep well but I never make enough anyway. Some folks add a couple tablespoons of molasses to the batch for the microbes.

You might type in just alfalfa too. Gives more nutritional information.

We're off to HD looking at bath vanities. The 2 here are original, cheap ones and look disgusting. Plus, we want to tile the master bath. The kid has trashed the new carpet in there, droplets of various colors of hair dye all over it.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Is it still morning? We hit the garden early, and have been outside pulling weeds, digging up Iris and Rude Beckies, and transplanting them where they can roam freely. Saw two spots in front with some horsetail coming up so that's on the agenda too. Dig it out, black plastic over the whole area, fresh wood chips on top of that. So much to do. DH is working his butt off and I came in to dry off, and rest my back.

I'm sure all are having a busy day....~~~ happy gardening!!

Well, back from the yard sales, yuk, nothing but junk. The one I really wanted to see, listed plants,decorative pots, wrought iron garden bench,etc, etc. The bench was home made, it looked like by a 3 year old!! Don't know what the plants were but they looked pitiful, and the pots were the green plastic variety found at nurseries or walmart. The only thing I bought was a pair of capris, with the price tag still on them, $2.00, and DH 2 pairs of shorts, tags on them also. Total of $6.00. Bet I spent $10, in gas!!

Well, off to dose the plants with Mighty Plant, and do some transplanting.

Will be back later.

Hi everyone
Home from getting my hair done. We went out for a bite to eat and to check out a couple of new stores that have just opened. They are expanding our mall and we now have a Pet Smart, Old Navy and Ross.

Darius went to HD and found the Alaska Fish Emulsion. Thanks for telling me about it. It's hard to get around to reading everything I need to about all my plants. I appreciate the info. :) You are in *big* trouble, though as I found a couple of clay flower pots I liked. :) The DH said I could spend money ok by myself without you sending me to the store! LOL

Ooooh, DH just brought in some of our sweet 100 tomatoes!!! These are the first ones to be picked. We've been only getting Romas so far. They are so good ... still warm from the sun!! Mmmmm!

Well, am ~~~ at everyone. Am going out and plant something in my pots!

Elaine - I'm sorry I haven't answered your question before now about the Swedish Ivy blooms. I do hope you aren't going to be disappointed. They are small, white with lavendar, with no noticable fragrance. Just lots of them per stem. The bloom stem can get quite long, usually u shaped, and lasts for a long time. They are one of those "understated" type beatuies that may often go un-noticed like Mother-in-law tongue
blooms (except Mother-in-law does have a very sweet fragrence). They can hide from you. When mine blooms I'll try to remember to post a pic for you.

Meanwhile, I sure wish I lived close enough to you to snitch a couple of those fresh, vine ripe tomatoes!!!!

To all others - I have read everything but I really need to get back into the yard, so I'll ~~~ for now, and get back later.

Hope, did they all die but this one? It is a cutie, hope it thrives and does well.

I'm back again. :)

Bonnie, so sorry you didn't have better luck at the yard sales today. At least it was fun and you didn't come home empty handed.

Ann, loved your song yesterday! LOL We have those horrid black flies also, and they sure do hurt, but I don't think they're as bad here. Thank goodness. The mosquitoes are *bad* enough!

McCool, tell you the truth ... your greenhouse sounds mighty fine to me. I'm still planting seeds in the DH's mind about one. Don't want to be toooo obvious cause then it wouldn't be his idea. ;-)

Ginni, that ivy sounds beautiful. If you think about it ... would love to see pics when it blooms.

Well, we've played around all day. Went to the washroom to put up some cleaning supplies only to realize I had left a load of clothes in the wash last night. :-( I *hate myself* when I do that!! Got those going again and now I have to type. Yuck!

Will try to come back and comment more after a while.

Hope, so sorry about the other babies. Is the mama taking good care of it? Sometimes that is god's way of weeding out deformities, or sicknell. Survior she is.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Ugh, I'm dirty, my shoes are wet, I stink, and we've barely made a dent in what we hoped to get done today. Took out frozen leftover rigatoni for dinner, so that's taken care of.

Hope, who are these rowdy sassy children? Do you provide day care? Isolation/separation usually calms them down. One in this corner, one in that.....one on the steps...I never took backtalk from my kids but that was back in the day when you were allowed to beat them. LOL

Would you believe, I got a graduation invitation from my step-niece, two of her children are graduating high school and they are having a big party for them. This is the step brother that hasn't spoken to me in over twenty years, didn't come to our wedding, charged me $$$ for taking my DD's graduation pictures and then didn't even get her a gift, and now I'm invited to his daughter's kid's shindig. Trolling for gifts, I guess. Didn't even spell my name right on the envelope. (And Dcat thinks SHE can hold a grudge!!)

I'm too tired to communicate. ~~~~ at all you busy people, Elaine you are driving me crazy, with your ripe tomatos!! Bought one at the supermarket two days ago and it still doesn't look ripe!

Need another shower. Phew!

Sheila

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Meezer, I don't hold grudges, just don't speak to that person again in this life time. LOL. No I just get my feelings hurt, sulk awhile, and then put it behind me, and go on.

101, I just hate it when they put such glowing ads in the paper, and you plan, and when you get there, it is a complete dud. One advertised a Troy tiller, cheap, yikes, $450.00. So wonder what his annual income is if he thinks that is cheap?

Hope, I too was wondering whose kids are these rowdy monsters? Hope it is not your grandchildren, then if it is, those angels are just having a bad day. hehehe.

Got invited to DS & GF, for steak on the grill, baked potatoes, salad, fresh watermelon and cantaloupe, and Lemon pound cake. Can you say I am stuffed. Very good, didn't have to do anything but sit and eat, no dishes to clean up, etc. I could get used to doing that every day.

Maria, so what you been up to? Still gardening? I am ordering from Bluestone Perrenials tonight, they have 1/2 off sale until the 31st. My perennial bed won't be much this year, but it will be a beaut next year. Maria, I will talk to you next week about vacation plans.

Have to get back to planning vacation, just have 1 more day and night to plan, then I just will need directions to the airport. Cause that next day we are flying home.

Well, I will check back in later.

Where's Sarv.

~~~~~ to all else.
Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)
Everyone must be real busy today, not much chatting going on. The wind picked up early this morning and has been sticking around. It has kept the temps down but I cant breath in the high winds so no gardening for me. I did drag DH out for a little bit to a couple estate sales. I found a couple of table lamps and matching floor lamp for DD new apartment. I think she has just about everything that she needs for awhile.
Made a white cake with strawberry butter cream frosting. No special reason just wanted to make a cake from scratch. Its on the counter, go ahead and grab a piece. DD was amazed that I remember how to make the cake from memory without a recipe. Going to write it down soon though. My memory is slowly slipping away.
Hope, what a precious little thing you have there. I hope that it continues on surviving if mama cat isn't feeding. I also want to know whos kids are driving you crazy with the back talking. I am so lucky that all I have to do is give a look if I dont care for the tone and they change it. But then working with the pains I do all day my kids kind of figure I am at my limit when I get home and dont want to push me over the edge.
Elaine, I am happy you are able to harvest and enjoy more of you tomatoes. I just wish I was closer so I could help you out of a few. I only have three plants, 1 patio cherry, 1 pear, and 1 roma.
Well DH is whining about having to go to Lowes alone, so I am going to go with him and come home with plants. That will teach him.... LOL ~~~~~ to all.
Casey
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
That'll learn him! Still trying to convince my DH that a trip to the hardware store does not qualify as an "afternoon date". Time for bed for me, yawwwwwwwwn, gonna check out another litter tomorrow. This one sounds promising....but, reserving judgement. I think these are not seal points, but that's not a problem, I've had blues, and they are beautiful, too.
Say good night, Gracie......
Sheila
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Goodnight, Gracie
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Wait, don't go to bed yet, it's only a little after 11:00, you will be too rested tomorrow, and that is when you start hurting yourself, out gardening!!
Well, I have had a busy day, this afternoon, after getting back from the dud yard sales, I put Mighty Plant on all the annuals I put in this past week. Went to the veggie garden, and harvested broccoli, discovered something is eating the beans. So got the sprayer, and used some insecticide on them, the tomatoes too for good measure. I have several heirloom tomatoes blooming, so have to get them "bagged". I sprayed all DM's annuals I put out this week with the MP too. Then DS and GF invited us for supper, came home and put the finishing touches on arranging the vacation. We now have a bed for all 5 nights. DH has gone to spend the night with DMIL. She is not feeling well, and he was worried that she would need something during the night.
Meezer, hope the "scope em out trip" turns out well. Then we will have to endure breaking in another new animal. What will the others think?
Hope, how old are these kids? If they are still small, I say use the paddle, or a back hand.
Carat the price some husbands pay for a little company on a trip to Lowes. DH offered for me to go with him to get some tractor parts this morning, and I said, will you stop at yard sales? He said maybe you had better drive!! Thanks for the slice of cake I just had, yummy!!
Well, since everybody is going to bed, I will have to find other forums to visit.
Goodnight everyone.
Well, I'm off to bed but just wanted to say if I were close enough I'd certainly give y'all some of my maters. LOL I have baby poblano peppers also but still no sign of any cuckes. poo!
Here's hoping all have a restful night.
~Elaine~
Hi Defoe ... we posted at the same time! LOL Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite! :) I'm still jealous about your trip! LOL LOL
