Coffee and.....May 26, Friday

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

C'mon in and sit a spell. Rest your feet, stay out of the heat for a bit. There's coffee over there, sweet tea in the fridge. We can chat a while have a snack and then get on with the daily chores. Summer is almost here, and the years are getting shorter.

Let's enjoy our friends and our favorite past times. We followed from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/607086/#new

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I guess I will have to be first this morning. My month of starting the daily is soon to be over. So it's time again for volunteers.

Sarv, Defoecat? If you need instructions on how, let me know and we can work this out.

Am I the worm catcher this morning? Woohoo!!

Yes, you are Sheila. Have a good day and everyonr else

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I knew if I didn't keep it short and sweet someone else would be in here before I finished my windy posting!

Still looks kind of wet outside, and there's no rosy horizon so I guess we'll be golfing in the fog. We've done worse...but so far it's not raining.

Sammi woke me at 4:30 slithering under the covers and thinking I needed a bath. Yikes, that little sandpaper tongue will get you awake in a hurry! Then he decided he needed breakfast, but I held him off until 5 and then gave up trying to go back to sleep. All their dishes were empty so I had a gathering immediately, so he must have been elected to to be the spokescat.

Unfortunately, Bonnie, even though some of these sellers don't quite qualify as puppy/kitten mills, the ignorance I find out there is astounding. Some are in it for the money, and some just think they are providing a service, but too many are not knowledgable either about the breed, or proper handling. The first batch of kittens I looked at a month or so ago, very obviously had not touched by human hands, they were hissy and very nervous. Kittens love to be handled, and if they are raised in a family environment, are never shy or hostile. The next viewing was the developmentally slow seal point, who I am sure will not survive, and this was the second litter that the queen had produced that had problems. Yesterday's kittens were adorable, but badly bred and misidentified.

There is an abundance of ignorance that was not as pervasive 10 or 15 years ago. It's evident even in the dog breeding, there's all kind of new and strange combination breeds showing up, which sends my DD into apoplexy as the breeders are just novices and experimenting. You may see a JR/Poodle mix somewhere down the line and someone will think it's cute. Then the next generation will be cross bred, and who knows what they'll call that litter!

I'm also quite sure that there will be kitty noses out of joint if we bring in another meezer, but they'll adjust. They always do.

OK off my soap box. For the moment anyway, something else might set me off.

McCool, I am faint with envy at your greenhouse!! Always wanted one, almost bought a house once that had one attached, but the roof on the house was caving in! Couldn't justify the purchase with that kind of expense attached to it. If we ever enclose the upper portion of the deck, that would be perfect, but first we'll have to find about $20,000. to throw around. I should say another $20K, because that's about what the additional garage cost. You can see where the priorities are here. LOL

Wonder if the downpours we got yesterday made it across the lake to Sarv's campsite! It came down in buckets, my bedding plants were floating in a couple inches of water. Then it would clear up for an hour or so before we got another deluge. Makes it easy to pull weeds...and I have plenty of that to do. We haven't had a power outage though, so no excuse to eat somewhere else. Elaine's steak sounded so good!

Oh, we use sweet biscuits for strawberry shortcake too, but I am more than willing to substitute angelfood cake, or pound cake, or even those little fake ones from the supermarket. In fact, I could eat strawberries and whipped cream on toast if it came to that!

I'm going to hit the shower and try to find something to wear that will cover our temperature change from the current 50* to the noon time prediction of 70*. If the weather channel is right, that is. Have to do layers. I guess, so I can peel off as the sun comes out.

Have a sunny day, and stay cool or warm, as the weather requires.
~~~ to all, with good wishes!
Sheila
Geez, where is everybody? I have been up since 7, had had coffee, read the paper, and am deciding if I want to tackle the last of the mulch at DM's.We had storms last night, wind, and rain, thunder and lightening. Under a tornado watch most of the evening. It is overcast now, with possibilty of more rain today.
Just remembered that 2 neighbors and I are having lunch, so may put off the mulch until afternoon. I probably will just stay in and do some housework, as I haven't touched anything but laundry in 2 weeks.
M5, there are all kinds of ads in our paper for the weird breeds of dogs. I would like someone to explain to me why many years were spent tryng to purify certain breeds, then to have novices come in and perpetuate these hybrids. Shame on the AKC, if they decide to register any of them. I am basically a dog person, and if you just want a dog, you can go to any shelter and get a perfectly good dog. If you want a purebred, then I think you should be able to find a reputable dealer who does breed for purity.
Okay off that soap box. I can jump on them pretty quickly!!
Well DH is still in bed, don't know what his problem is, as he is usually the early riser, will probably have an excuse as "I couldn't sleep", then what the heck was that sawing sound coming from your side of the bed?
Well gonna go shower and dress, then tackle part of the house.
BBL
Morning everyone!
Well, last night's weather *was* full of plenty fire works. LOL I'm not a scary cat, but don't care for lightening ... however, I did enjoy the excuse for a meal out. LOL
Meezers, I haven't had the opportunity to snuggle a kitty in a long time. I remember growing up there were always the "barnyard" cats around with plenty of kittens to love. I always adored them, but Mama despised them, so they always stayed at Grandma's. :-( Guess I've always been a dog person since. But even to this day ... when I see a kitty cat ... I just can't resist them. LOL With this all said, give Sammy a snuggle for me, please?
sarv, here's hoping you didn't get any of that bad weather Meezers was talking about. I'm accustomed to finding out what's for breakfast every morning but you haven't posted yet. Guess I'm on my own. :)
Defoe, honestly ... you make my back hurt! You and Molly both! All I have to do is dance a bit with the vacuum or bend over all these pots watering and I'm done in. Whew, where do you get your energy?
Molly, I will take the month of June. I can post the link before I go to bed at night. Although the instructions are different for me, I think I've figured it out. Dmail me if you want me to do it. :)
Well, times a wasting, and I've got to get on my typing. Y'all have fun in the garden and stay safe!
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Hi all,
I'm in taking a short break. Haven't got much more than a yard and garden "survey" done so far today. Mr. Slim, gardener's assistant extraordinaire, showed me this morning just how his job is supposed to be done. Upon seeing an unassisted gardener, one must immediately scooch down,pop right under the gate, and plop down at said gardener's feet. I'm never going to get anything done in there unless I trap the little beastie in the house (and even so, he'll probably be digging up my squash hills when I'm not there to defend them.)
M5, my greenhouse is the same as the one sarv has --- just a little one from Harbor Freight. It cost me $360.00 and has a lot of faults, but is still a big help in the Spring at about a third the cost of anything else I've seen out there. Actually they had it for even less this year in one of their catalogs and they're selling a larger version now too. I'm thinking of trying to fill all the gaps with clear caulking and perhaps try insulating with bubble wrap so that I could use the oil-filled electric radiator I bought for the purpose and extend my season without paying to heat the whole outdoors.
Darius, I have a question for you. Would it be a good idea to treat my herbs to a drink of alfalfa tea? I think I just read somewhere that you shouldn't fertilize French tarragon in particular because it causes less intense flavor. Besides the tarragon I currently have rosemary, lavender, dill, flat-leaved parsley, peppermint, lemon balm (that one needs no encouragement whatsoever!), spearmint, oregano, savory (forgot which one), sage, and chives. Any info would be appreciated!
Molly, hope you're feeling a lot better today. Getting clobbered like that is no joke. Your orchid house is looking great allready. I practically drool over orchid plants, but know that bringing one here would be tantamount to a death sentence, so I abstain.
Mary, hope the ride goes well.
Bonnie and I01, hope the weather gets a lot less wild and scarey for both of you! I'd be a nervous wreck.
Hi Maria. THe pictures of your gardens are lovely. How's Samson doing these days?
I'd best get back to trying to get things done outside. We're likely to get thunderstorms this afternoon and if that does happen, it will be the end of outdoors work for me. DH is taking the store today and I can't afford to waste this extra gardening time.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
McCool... I assume the french tarragon is an annual for you? I didn't start using alfalfa tea until after I moved and no longer had tarragon so I really cannot attest to yes or no. My other herbs like it. My tarragon was always spindly so I think it probably needed some food.
I've never made aerated alfalfa tea, because I had no bubbler. Seeing some reports of greater success here on DG with a batch made with a bubbler assures me I will get a bubbler after I move and have a garden again!
Well, the home inspection report and the radon tests have come in. Radon is within the national average. Some mostly minor stuff on the home inspection, although the repairs could run over $1,000. Biggest single items are spraying for powder-post beetles in the barn, and a leaky seal on the patio doors. I'd much rather see to those things myself after I am there, so the Seller is crediting us with $1,000 agreed upon in the contract. We had asked for $3,000 originally but accepted $1,000 in the contract negotiations. Lots of it is minor electrical stuff (like GFI's) that Bruce will fix for us when he comes with the first busload of stuff. I figure I can do it all for less that the Seller could.
Hooray! My sister closed on the home equity loan this morning and we will have funds available June 1. Everything is done except the home owner's insurance and they are going out to inspect it tomorrow morning. Well, not everything. We still need a good faith settlement estimate from the attorney, and to see if we can move up closing.
I've been touching up paint today and my neck is already killing me from the ceiling work. I hate painting ceilings. Going to be a long weekend at this rate!
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Just came in to take a break first one since 9 oclock, am kindof tired,had a mango for lunch, yummy.
Happy for you,Darius and your sister, hope she is over that bug she had and also hoping you will not come down with it, so do not get too to tired
McCool, Samson is his usual naughty self, diigging holes and chewing the empty plant containers as soon as he gets a hold of one and takes of like a rocket looking at me as if saying ha ha I got It!
I have a garden way down near the road, I call it my step child never get down there too oftren, had to saw of some branches with the hand saw, so I can work in it, do not want to use the power saw when I am alone, it was quite a job but now I can plant a few more few annuals, they will get a bit more sun. The green house sounds nice, McCool, perhaps I should get one?
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, everybody is busy today. I happened to remember this morning that I had a lunch with 2 neighbors planned, so just puttered around the house until time to leave. We went to a Mexican restaurant, and it was really good. I had a seafood chimichonga ? out of this world. I'm home, changed clothes, and going to DM"s to get rid of the rest of the mulch. It is overcast and windy, hot also, so we may be in store for some more storms later this evening.
I' ll be back later.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
defoe... Sounds like a good lunch! I've never had a Mexican meal out that I liked. Usually gloppy and all the ingredients taste and look alike.
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
It's 88 out now. Jeremy and I finished what rafters we had, put the rool perlins up then went to the lumber store for more materials. We hope to finish the last 3 rafters and 10 perlins this afternoon when the heat subsides a bit.
In the meantime, I will do some painting of boards.
I am feeling much better now. The wound in my hair is starting to itch, so I suspect healing is going on. I am usually a very good healer.
Well, Jeremy wants puter for a while during this siesta time and I will watch a little tv and paint.
Later,
Molly
:^))))
Darious you mentioned food for tarragon? Mine are looking sick and I *just* got them! I had one last year also and it croked. Can you come to the rescue so I won't commit plantizide (as defoe says) please?
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Elaine, what kind of tarragon do you have? The tasty French Tarragon is an annual in the south, needing a longer freeze than you get. I don't like the Russian nor the Mexican for cooking. Tarragon and rosemary are my 2 favorite herbs for cooking.
I assume it's in a pot? If so, put it in the ground. Give it a weak fish emulsion every 2-3 weeks or so. (That's what I feed my epiphyllum, too.) You can get Alaska Fish Emulsion at Lowe's, HD and maybe Walmart. I think it's 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water, so for my epies and tarragon, I use about half strength.
This message was edited May 26, 2006 2:20 PM
It's French tarragon. I'll look for that this week-end. :)
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Good! I plan some French Tarragon after I move. I'll have to do rosemary in a pot to bring indoors as I'm too cold for it outside in winter. Pooh.
Hi folks,
I've been back about an hour. Tried without success to get an Internet connection on Wednesday before we left town. Judging from the busy signal when we tried to phone ISP, I gather that they were well and truly down. So for nearly three days now I've not seen a newspaper or TV or been connected to a computer.
We were at Kawagawa Lake in Ontario - a bit west of Algonquin Park and east of a small community called Dorset if any of you want to do a Mapquest. It's quite a BIG lake, though lot as big as some in the area. DD's BF's family cottage is lake access only which means a 10 minute ride going top speed in a fast boat (about 40 mph). And it's no shack - they have room to sleep 14 in beds. It's also the peak of black fly season. Stand still for 30 seconds and you are covered in a swarm of them. they bite - taking little bloody hunks out of you. Fortunately, it didn't rain yesterday though it wasn't a picture perfect day.
We went out morning and afternoon, exploring the lake. Very quiet in the middle of the week before peek season. Too cold to swim at this time of year. But in the boat, we could stop in the middle of the lake and talk and not be bothered by the flies. If we were too close to land, they'd eventually find us and then we'd take off again, leaving the flies behind.
There is an Ontario song
Quoting:
The Black Fly Song
Wade Hemsworth
'Twas early in the spring when I decide to go
For to work up in the woods in North On-tar-i-o
The unemployment office said they'd send me through
To the Little Abi-tibi with the survey crew
CHORUS:
And the black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly, no matter where you go
I'll die with the black fly a-picking my bones
In North On-tar-i-o-i-o, in North On-tar-i-o
Now the man, black Toby was the captain of the crew
And he said, "I'm gonna tell you boys what we're gonna do
They want to build a power dam and we must find a way
For to make the Little Ab flow around the other way"
So we survey to the east and we survey to the west
And we couldn't make our minds up how to do it best
Little Ab, Little Ab, what shall I do
For I'm all but goin' crazy on the survey crew
It was black fly, black fly everywhere
A-crawlin' in your whiskers, a-crawlin' in your hair
A-swimmin' in the soup, and a'swimmin in the tea
Oh the devil take the black fly and let me be
Black Toby fell to swearin' 'cause the work went slow
And the state of our morale was gettin' pretty low
And the flies swarmed heavy, it was hard to catch a breath
As you staggered up and down the trail talkin' to yourself
Now the bull cook's name was Blind River Joe
If it hadn't been for him we'd have never pulled through
For he bound up our bruises, and he kidded us for fun
And he lathered us with bacon grease and balsam gum
At last the job was over, Black Toby said, We're through
With the Little Abitibi and the survey crew
'Twas a wonderful experience and this I know
I'll never go again to North On-tar-i-o
Describes it quite well. when I download the pics, I'll show you how we dressed to go for a walk.
Anyway, we had a good visit and get along well with BF's parents, but no announcement was made. Well, we wait and keep quiet. DD and BF are east for the wedding of his cousin this weekend in Waterloo, ON. So who knows what might happen.
I expect they are at home in Waterloo now. We all headed out early this morning. in the boat by 8:15 - to the marina at 8:30. DH has a conference in San Francisco and he rode with them to Toronto airport while I drove back home. It's a 4 hour drive without stops of which I made 3 totalling about 30 minutes. Light rain part of the time. Not enough to use wipers on full most of the time, but enough to reduce the bugs I caught and maybe soften up the ones we caught on Wednesday. Had to keep watch for deer and moose and actually saw a deer standing by the side of the road. Fortunately, he ran the other way as I approached.
Well, better go put my plants back out on the patio. It looks like a warm weekend, but I left them in the porch while we were away. And if the rain has stopped, my car sure could use a wash.
I am home once again. Got the mulching done at DM's, also put up a little white picket fence around the beds, looks really good. Mr B. was with me, and he found something to dig for. He was buried in a hole, and looked like those dogs behinds you can put in the yard, all I could see was a little tail. Well, I got ready to head home, he wouldn't come when called, so I walked over pulled him out and was carrying this muddy dog (it has rained the last 2 nights) to the car, but he wiggled out of my grasp and went back to the hole. As we had an obedience issue about a week ago, I have a fly swatter in my car, so had to "show" it to him, and then he came reluctantly. There is not anything but his tail that is not muddy. Day before yesterday, when he was with me at DM's the neighbor, directly behind our property has cows grazing a pasture. When I was ready to go home, he jumped in the car, and had found a cow pile and rolled in it. So he has had the hose treatment 2 days this week. He is too muddy to bring in the give a bath, so it's the garden hose, again. Can't be mad at him, because he seems to have so much fun.
Well, I am off to try to find something to fix for supper. After that good lunch, I'm not real hungry.
Darius, I have found that for mexican food, find a good one, and stay with tacos, fluetas or chimicongs, they are pretty consistent.
Since I am not mexican, don't know about the spelling of any of those things. LOL
Hi Folks,
Here we are - the old folks (Mark's parent and us) all suited up to protect us from the black flies when we took a walk a couple of days ago. I'm the one with the camera. For a real serious walk, they'd wear leather gloves too.
Those black flies must be something, Ann, we have them also but not like that, I remember one year we went to Maine for a holiday, have never seen anything like it, I said to my husband please do not suggest another visit to Maine at this time of year again , lol
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Okey dokey, here's today's progress. We got so many beams up, 2/3rds of the roof perlins then had to go for more lumber.
Just couldn't seem to get back in the swing of things. Did a little painting but that's about it. We'll get back to serious rafter hanging tomorrow.
Molly, it looks great. I think you have worked hard enough to take a break. Hope it was a relaxing one.
Black flies??? Are these different from regular flies? All these new bugs and animals to learn about. Ann, you looked as though you all were heading out to harvest honey from the hives.
We have a large population of hispanics and mexicans here in Las Vegas, and with them they brought some pretty awesome recipes. I have only heard of a couple places that the food is not as it should be. I am a big whimp and dont do well with spicy or high acid foods so I dont usually eat anything but the cheese enchiladas.
Darius, I have seen this alfalfa tea mentioned a few times. Where can I get the recipe to make it and store it.
I dont watch television or read the paper so most of my news comes from the internet and I dont check it as often as I should. I hate reading the news here because it usually involves the death of a child at least once a week or some other senseless crime that just gets me going.
Lasagna, salad, garlic knots and a glass of wine is waiting for me at the table so I better go. Glad to see that most had a good day on different levels.
I will check back in later....
Hi "guys",
Ahhh, Vi-ann, I know exactly what you're talking about and I can hear the chorus of that song going through my head! I once took a trip with a former college roomate and her family to visit her great-uncle (named "Shirley", believe it or not --- but then, I have a great-uncle named Aime (otherwise known as "Shrimp") so who am I to talk? Those @#$@% things are worse than any mosquito ever thought of being (and believe me, folks, I am not pro mosquito!)
My mother had to take a trip to the bank in the center of town today, so, since it was raining, I went with her in order to stop at the local hardware store to pick up some pots for transplanting. Of course, it turned out that all they had were huge pots for small trees, etc. and I need tiny ones to transplant my newly rooted rosemary plants and some of the stuff I'm digging up for the round-up next month.
Managed to get the squash and cucumber seeds in before the thunder started rumbling today, but didn't even start on the beans or on transplanting the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. At least half of my work today was digging up nasturtiums and putting them in pots or anywhere in the yard I could think of. They're so pretty, smell great, and can be used in salads, etc,, but they also grow like there's no tomorrow and vine all over the place, so I don't want them in position to take over the entire garden, but hate to just pull them up like weeds.
Came face to face with another facet of CRS today. I've been thinking for at least a week that my seeds must have been too old, the weather's been too wet and cold, etc. I kept looking for signs of seeds sprouting and saw nothing --- it seemed that even the radishes, which are usually great indicators since they grow so fast, just weren't coming up, Today I realized that it helps if you're checking the right end of the garden! I suddenly came upon the missing row -- at the opposite end-- so I guess the seeds were all right after all!
Bonnie (d'cat) did you ever find out what muddy Mr. B was after? Though I'm a "dyed in the wool" cat person, I think I would have enjoyed watching that episode. Bet he really enjoyed his "bath" afterwards (not!)
It seems to have stopped raining and I'm listening to the frog chorus through the open window at the moment. I was just telling my mother earlier today that at this time of year I really appreciate the sense of hearing. I love to listen to the Spring peepers, and the bird song (not to mention the wind chimes positioned on three sides of the house).
Thanks for the reply, darius. Apparently French tarragon is a perennial here --- dies back in the Winter, but pops back up in the Spring. I asked about it at the nursery where I bought it and she told me "we sometimes lose some parsley and some of the other herbs when it's a hard winter, but the tarragon ALWAYS comes back." So far both plants that I bought from her are looking pretty robust. Maybe it likes the cooler weather more than the weather down south?
Maria, yes greenhouses are pretty nice. I think you could afford a better one than the one that I have and ,if so, you should definitely consider getting a more expensive one if you decide to buy. The one that I have has a lot of gaps, a not very well designed door and window, and basically, a lot to be desired. I couldn't afford to pay any more for one though and it's definitely better than nothing! Our house is quite dark inside and having to shuffle seedlings from the house to my shop and back again was a royal pain (not to mention the fact that the seedlings were taking up half of my dollhouse miniatures area!) It bothers me that the thing stands empty and idle throughout the Summer, but it gets too hot in there for anything I can think of..
Made some cornbread tonight to go with the leftover chili. DH announced "It's crumbly!" to which I relpied, "Yes, it's cornbread!" --- guess he never had the real thing before.
Afraid that I'm getting tired and fading fast. Hope I have'nt offended anyone by not responding to her/him by name, but it just gets overwhelming after awhile! Please know that I have read everything (wouldn't think of doing otherwise!) Good night all.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi Folks,
Casey, the Black Flies are small - maybe about 1/16th inch and they swarm around, but unlike some I've heard called "no see-ums", they are deterred by screens. This site tells a bit about them.
http://res2.agr.ca/CRECO/diptera/bf11-dp11_e.htm
I was told this week, but can't confirm, that they are important in pollinating the very tiny wild blueberries that grow in Ontario. We don't have them in Ottawa itself, but one doesn't have to go very far north to experience them. The bites might be somewhat itchey,but are mostly sore because they take a chunk out of you - drawing blood. I've generally avoided them - this was the first real experience with them. We have lots of mosquitoes in Ottawa though.
McCool, French tarragon grows quite well as a perenniel here as well. Your corn bread sounds good.
Fading fast here too and I've been fighting a cold all week. Might have withdrawn from visiting the cottage this week (so as not to share it), but then DH, DD would have had to rent a car to get there since I returned to Ottawa alone and all the rest went to other direction.
Think I'll fetch myself a good dose of Scotch as cough medicine, watch the news on TV and go to bed.
good night all
Ann
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
Hi everyone,
Just a quick stop - had to run in and go.... digging extra hostas for some gals at work. There's still more to dig because of the hedge that DH cut down.
Our school went camping every year in Algonquin Park. Ann, those suits are wonderful! We stayed close to the campfire and let the smoke keep them at bay at night but we were fair game in the daytime. It was always interesting to see who got bit the worst. They definitely have preferences. A guy in our class always went home barely being able to see, his eyes would be swollen shut from the bites around them. Seems like everyone in his family was tasty. lol I had one in my ear once and the teacher put hydrogen peroxide in it a couple of times a day. Drove me CRAZY!
Down here in the lower 48, we have knats and I think just about everyone knows what knats are. The black flies look quite similar to the knats but are about half the size. Quite a bit larger than 'no-see-ums', which are terribly annoying but nothing compared to black flies. They are ferocious biters, much nastier than knats. Speaking of which, they were annoying last night, everytime you opened ur mouth, seems like they wanted in. argh!
ok, back to watering....
Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)
McCool, thank you for the belly laugh and for not making me feel so alone. I walked around my house this morning looking for something but forgot what I was looking for then started doing dishes because I forgot I was looking for my keys and that I had to go to work. Scary at times....
Ann, read the info at that site and then went to a couple other sites. WOW, is all I can say. That and I am so glad they really dont care for the heat in the South to much.
French Tarragon only grows as a house plant here. To dry and hot. I had a small one for a couple years but it was a fight day to day and I just gave up. Love it in certain foods but I think basil and cilantro are my favorite herbs.
Water and feed the container plants tonight. Tomorrow I will do the same to the two beds I have and then to wash my vehicle. My vehicle is always spotless on the inside but filthy on the outside. DH is the other way around. I figure since I can't see the dirt while driving, out of sight out mind works for me.
I think I will have a second glass of wine and read some of my book then off to bed. Good night all.... Sleep with the angels.
McCool, most probably what Mr B was digging for was a mole. He definitely wasn't ready to go home though. He stayed outside while I was preparing the evening meal, and then when I got the kitchen cleaned, DH and I went fishing. Well at the lake, what do you think he did? Went swimming. He sure needed it to wash the mud off, but why does he sulk so when I give him a bath in the tub? I always thought water was water to animals. He cornered something at the lake also, but was by a fence and he couldn't get through, so he just barked his head off. So he is laying at my feet, all the mud washed off, just waiting for time to go to bed.
Viann, I too thought those outfits looked sort of like the bee keepers wear to collect the honey. We have mosquitos, deer flies and horse flies here. The mosquitos and deer flies prefer humans, but the horse flys as the name implies, prefer horses. Most usually during the horse fly season, we open the barn so that they can get inside, doesn't provide 100% protection, but is better than in the pasture.
Molly what great progress. In that heat, maybe a 1/2 day of work is the goal you need to set. Meant to say that I could do the June daily (if you tell me how) but will be on vacation the week of June 19-24th.
Well, I have checked out all the other forums I frequent, and am ready to start thinking about bed. Tomorrow the alarm is set for 6:00 am, as the local paper has some awesome yard sales advertised. Got to be the early bird tomorrow for sure. Anybody have plans for the weekend?
Well, good night Gracie, and all the other salutations.
