Road trip..

We are planning a long road trip soon. I am looking for Ideas for good "travel food". Sure there will be some fast food eaten and hopefully a few good restaurants but I would really like to take quite a bit of stuff that will be good out of a cooler. I already plan on dried fruit and granola but DH is not a big fan of either. In the past I have taken summer sausage with cheese and crackers but it got old really fast. I know yall have some great suggestions for me, any and all will be appreciated.

I am not much of a traveler and I am sure travel with six kids is much different. LOL We do like apples, beef or turkey jerky, cheese, lots of water, orange juice, popcorn, etc.

Wishing you a fun and safe trip!!

Lettuce wraps!

Very good for you and yummy, too! Just wrap a roll of chicken salad, ham slices,
all sorts of stuff into rolls of lettuce leaves. You can fit quite a few of them in a flat
Tupperware container that won't take up much space. Rubbermaid now has
disposable reuseable containers in nice shallow rectangles that would be perfect
for these lettuce wraps.

Years ago, traveling with kids and a shoestring, we got very creative. A lot of prepared foods, i.e. canned or microwavable hot foods, that don't require refrigeration will heat up just fine if you set them on the engine manifold for 10 minutes or so! My kids ate many a can of spagettios that was heated that way, and was definitely cheaper than fast food.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Will run them by the DH and go from there. Im really intrigued by the lettuce wrap idea..

Precut finger food size hunks of melon are delightful road warriors. The hand wipes we now have make it so much easier to deal w/ messiness!!! Enjoy that trip.....those are treasured moments, indeed!!!!!!

Fruit and ice water. It doesn't sound too good, but you won't feel sick like you do eating heavier food or drinking pop!
